I can't stand Jo and Link together.

I loved Link so much until he pushed Amelia into marriage.

Before that, they were perfect together.

Izzie did change Alex, but Jo made him a better person.

Jo left the doctor's office. Luna might be deaf for the rest of her life. Jo loves her daughter so much, and the love she feels for her wouldn't change if she were deaf. But Jo didn't want that for her child. She wants Luna to grow up like every other child.

She was so focused on her thoughts that she didn't notice that Mark was there.

"Jo? Are you okay? You look very distraught."

"I'm fine. Everything is fine," she replied.

"I know that I'm not Lexie, but you can tell me. Lexie is in surgery for the next five hours. I don't think you can wait that long. Just tell me what happened. I've known Lexie for the past 15 years, and I think I can be a good Lexie," Mark said with a smile.

Jo giggled and said, "I just left the paediatrician. Luna probably has a process hearing loss." Jo still can't believe her own words. She had been doing so great! She was communicating well, and she was like every other toddler. What if she has more major problems?

"Jo... I'm so sorry," Mark said, not knowing what to say. "You know what she has?"

"No, I don't. We don't know how severe it is. I just found out she has a problem with her hearing."

"I have two hours left for my next surgery. It's enough time for me to find out what she has. You are lucky to have the best ENT," Mark said. After a moment of silence, Mark added, "Jo, I'll do everything I can so Luna won't be deaf, okay? I promise you."

"Thank you, Mark," Jo said, sobbing.

"Come on, let's do an otoscopy," Mark said.

While Mark did the otoscopy, Jo distracted Luna. Jo's heart beated so fast. She knew Luna could feel that because she was restless.

"Look at that," Mark said, showing Jo the problem on the screen. "We can do a stapedectomy. It may solve the problem. We don't know if it's the only thing that causes her hearing loss."

"She can have nerve damage," Jo said, hugging Luna.

"Jo, don't worry. If it's nerve damage, Amelia, Lexie, and Tom would do it."

"It's not just about the hearing. What if the hearing isn't her only problem? What if she has more problems that can make her miserable? I'm so stupid that I didn't notice that. She just looked so healthy and-"

"Listen to me; as long as she has her mother, she won't be miserable. She has you. Even if she can't hear you say, 'I love you,' she'll know that because she can feel it."

"Thank Mark. You are really good at comforting people," she told him.

"I have a lot of experience; we lost so many people. But what makes me an expert is Lexie's overthinking," Mark joked.

"Are you sure you can do the stapedectomy? The obstruction is pretty bad, and there is a much higher chance of bleeding."

"Are you doubting me? Of course I can, and Arizona is going to be there, and-"

"Arizona is a fetal surgeon. She can't help," Jo said.

"Arizona was the best paediatric surgeon. I know she can fix it."

She's supposed to be in the NICU now. Let's go talk to her," Jo said.

Jo and Mark arrived at the NICU and looked for Arizona. They found her talking to parents. After she saw Luna and their worried faces, she immediately finished the conversation.

"Is everything okay?" Arizona said.

"Arizona, I need your help. Luna has a hearing problem. She needs surgery to hear. Mark is going to operate on her, but we need a paediatric surgeon. You are the only one I can trust," Jo said.

"Jo... I... I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry," Arizona said in shock. "It's been too long since I've operated on a child. I don't think I have those skills anymore."

"Arizona, I would never ask for something like that if it wasn't so important to me. That's my child we are talking about. My little girl. What if it was Sofia?"

"I'm saying it because it's your kid. I love Luna, and you know that. I'm a great surgeon, and I was an amazing peds surgeon, but I'm not anymore. I can come back to that, but it'll take time, and we don't have that time," Arizona said.

Mark just stood there, looking at the helpless parents and babies that his family was once 13 years ago.

"You are the only one I can trust. I want to give my child the opportunity to hear."

"I can't do that, but I know who can." Arizona said.

"No! I really hope we don't think the same thing!"

"Alex is the best chance for Luna to hear. You know that. I don't like this idea either, but we have to do it for Luna."

"He left me with a letter! Do you think he will come here to operate on my child?"

"I know he will. Alex cares about you, and I know he'll do it."

After staying quiet throughout the conversation, Mark finally said something. "I know how hard it is. I have four kids. Sofia was born at 23 weeks, and we were all terrified, and when Lexie was pregnant, I was terrified, but all our three kids are perfectly healthy, and Sofia is a perfect, smart little girl."

"You want us to call him? You don't have to see him or talk to him if you don't want to. He can just fix her and go back. Do it for Luna," Arizona suggested.

"For Luna," Jo said, and took a deep breath.

"Mark, can you call Alex, please?" Arizona asked.

"What? Why me?" Mark said with shock.

"Because me and Callie watched your kids last night," Arizona replied.

"But-" Mark tried to say before he realized he had no choice. "Okay, I'll do it".

"Thank you, Mark. I'll go take Luna to the park. I thought she liked it because it was quiet, but I guess I was wrong," she said before she left.

"Good luck, Mark," Arizona said and got back to her job.

Mark wasn't Alex's biggest fan. He slept with Lexie and left her in the psych ward, but he was surprised that he left Jo with a letter. He thought he had changed.

"Karev?"

"Sloan?"

"It's me. How are you doing?"

The conversation was embarrassing. Mark and Alex didn't talk much after he left. So when Mark called, it had to be for a good reason.

"Is Meredith ok? What is it this time?" Alex asked. Mark could tell from his voice that Alex was terrified and worried.

"Meredith is fine. It's about Jo."

"Jo? What happened to her? Is it bad?" Alex asked him with the same worry as before.

"It's her daughter."

"Daughter?" Alex asked with surprise. He couldn't imagine Jo being with someone else. She got over him so quickly? Is she married or co-parenting? He knew he had no right to feel that way after he had left her, but he couldn't help it. Part of him was happy that she has a kid now. It means she is happy and doing well.

"Yes. She adopted her. Her name is Luna. Luna was born premature. Her biological mother died, and her father was not involved. Jo took care of her and decided to adopt her. Today, Jo found out that she may have conductive hearing loss. It's a pretty complicated one. I'll send you all the details."

"I will be there," Alex replied without hesitation.

"By the way, I don't want you anywhere near Jo."

"I don't think it's your business, Sloan," Alex said, obviously annoyed.

"It is. You know that Jo is like a little sister to me, and you hurt her. Deeply. You left her with a freaking letter. Be sure she doesn't want to see you ever again, but she wants the best for her kid. I want Jo to be comfortable, and she can't do that when you're here."

"Is she OK?" Alex asked.

"She isn't okay. How would you feel if one of your kids wasn't able to hear?"

"Sloan, I don't want to fight with you. I'll be in Seattle in a few days," Alex said and hanged up the phone. He thought that if he'd talked to Mark another minute, the first thing he'd do when he got to Seattle was hit Mark.
