Bowsette: A New Life
Chapter 1
Defeated
Lava flowed along the ground bringing an endless stream of smoke along with it. A castle made of thick grey bricks darkened by soot, massive and thick spiked chains holding up one bridge or contraptions or another. A massive bust of the Koopa King was over the main drawbridge, statues of the terrible lizard dragon… thing adorned the walls next to large rows of spikes. All was as normal in the Koopa King's Castle.
The sound of twirling helicopter blades is heard, then something diving straight for the castle. A massive crash is heard from atop the vehicle bay, catching the attention of a few guards. The plume of smoke rose from the same, adding to the swirling smoke clouds covering the sky. A loud furious roar reverberated around the whole of the land. Sadly, all is as normal in the Koopa King's Castle.
Bowser climbed out of the remains of his Koopa Copter and gave out a roar of supreme rage. "AGAIN! Defeated again!" The words had run through his head long before he had arrived. An old Magikoopa flew up with his broom. "Now now my lord, remember you shouldn't fly angry…" Kamek said. "SHUT UP Kamek!" The Koopa King huffed. Kamek landed on the vehicle bay and his broom vanished with it. He had been Bowser's most loyal servant since the Koopa was a baby and so wasn't particularly intimidated by Bowser's display.
Bowser swiped impotently at the air, breathing fire into the sky. Kamek looked on and didn't comment, but he sighed in his mind. 'He'll run out of steam soon enough.' A pair of Koopa Troopa guards moved to open the door as he approached, walking down the steps with Kamek trailing behind him. Bowser let out growls every so often as they went down several levels to the basement, with a few Goomba attendants joining Kamek in following him. Passing a couple rooms down a long hallway, Bowser stopped in front of a large door that looked like it had taken quite the beating despite being reinforced.
Not even waiting for his attendants to open the door for him, Bowser threw the doors open and stomped inside. Sycophantic as they all were his troops knew better than to follow him in there. The whole point of the room was to make sure his minions stayed safe. Looking back at his followers for only a moment, he slammed the doors shut and barred it behind him.
Looking around the familiar room for what felt like and might have literally been the thousandth time, he was pleased to find it quite in order as he had always expected. Stone and metal mannequins hung from the walls, from chains from the ceilings, and from poles in the floor. Posters of Mario with a red X through them were on most mannequins with a few having similarly defaced posters of Luigi, Yoshi, and some random Toads like Toadsworth instead. The only pleasing feature was a massive poster of Peach along one wall away from the mannequins.
Growling loudly, Bowser rushed forward and struck one of the mannequins hanging from the ceiling. It goes flying into the wall before the chain it's hanging from brings it back his direction. Bowser continues to strike the helpless target again, and again, and again. "HURA! RAAA! GRAA!" Even the strong metal of the mannequin couldn't hold out to the onslaught forever. The mannequin's chain snaps, knocking it against a wall and it falls to the floor before being crushed into scrap metal under Bowser's foot.
Turning to one of the other mannequins on the wall, Bowser continued his assault. Some mannequins were beaten, others reduced to slag with his fire breath, still others he slammed his whole body against. The rage in his mind drove him on, but something else kept him going. Even as he wrecked mannequin after mannequin the anger didn't stop. A red-hot fury possessed the Koopa King with a power he had never felt before. Soon Bowser found himself with no more targets to vent his frustration on, but it wasn't enough. In his blind fury he grabbed the poster of Peach on the wall and tore it down before he realized what he was doing.
Bowser looked at the poster of the woman he loved. This poster was always there to bring him calm, even after the countless defeats drove him here to take out his anger on something he never touched it. He even had it fireproofed and reinforced just so he wouldn't destroy it accidentally. Bowser tenderly touched a claw against the image of Peach for a moment before he made a decision. Reaching up and grabbing both sides, with a grunt he tore the thing in half, then again and again and again, tearing the poster to pieces.
Letting the remaining bits fall to the floor, the Koopa King didn't notice until he felt a few drops on his hands. He was crying, a rare event for someone like him, and even rarer for him to admit it to himself. "It will never happen." Bowser said to himself. Bowser lamented as he ran through the events in Moon Kingdom again and again. "I barely even notice anymore when she rejects me, but him? She wouldn't marry HIM!?" Bowser growled halfheartedly. He fell to his hands and knees and just let himself weep. "She couldn't even love him! What chance do I have?"
By the time Bowser got to his feet again it felt like hours had passed. Finally, he trudged to the door and unbarred it. When he opened the door Kamek was sitting out in the hallway reading a spellbook, probably to pass the time. "Ah! My lord!" Kamek stood at attention. "You were in there a while. Are you feeling better?" Kamek asked. "Yeah… just fine…" The haunted expression on Bowser's face wasn't one Kamek had ever seen before so he didn't buy it for a moment, but he decided to keep quiet. "Shall I prepare you a meal my King?" Bowser nodded. "Uh huh. Just a little something. I'm not that hungry." Kamek's eyes shot open at that. The Koopa King's appetite was legendary, if he didn't stop himself, he'd eat everything in the castle most days, especially after going in THAT room.
"I'm going to bed." Bowser sighed, he slowly lumbered down the hall and up the stairs. Kamek shook his head worriedly and moved off to prepare something. Bowser made his way up to his room and opened the door, flopping down on his bed, but sleep wouldn't come. Even when his servants came to give him his food, Bowser merely told them to come in and place it at his bedside, but he never touched it. The night wore and on before eventually sheer exhaustion brought a fitful restless sleep upon him.
