Prologue

I never really thought much about leaving Phoenix while still being in high school.

I have thought about moving to another state for college, or another city in Arizona but I never imagined I'd be on a plane heading from Phoenix all the way up to Seattle.

Three hours, every minute separating me from the red clay, cacti and clear beautiful skies dusted with constellations at night.

I'm heading towards a big city, people wandering through it, never stopping and the skies always dark and dreary. There's no space between the apartment buildings, and everything is small and compact. Apartments and a city in its own world I don't want to be a part of. Umbrellas up and shielding everyone from the cold rain that beats down with an intensity that is quite troublesome, arms wrapped tightly around bodies as they wear raincoats and rainboots no matter what type of season it is.

I didn't expect much when my mom, Renee, remarried herself to a man named Phil Dwyer.

He's seven years younger than her, only 30, and apparently his great-uncle is the principal of a prestigious Seattle Boarding School…. Northwest School.

He had sent off my school resume to them since I'm one of the smartest girls at Phoenix High, and somehow his great-uncle and the other members of the school board decided I would be the perfect fit for their school…which means that now I'm supposed to settle into the school right before said spring trimester.

Charlie, my dad, is supposed to meet with me when I land at the airport.

He's the Chief-of-Police in the small Northwest Olympic Peninsula of Washington State town named after a utensil…Forks. A population of 3,120 people and a high school population of 357. He only eats food from The Lodge, unless someone remembers to feed him. He spends more time at work or on the Quileute Reservation, La Push, than home.

I'm wearing a thick purple cotton hoodie, dark washed jeans that have a bell bottom aesthetic to the bottom of the pants, and brown hiking boots Charlie bought for me last year because they were having a sale at the Newtons' Olympic Outfitters. They are in good quality, of course there's the dirt and clay and rocks that wedge themselves in the textured bottom of the shoes. My brown, red highlighted hair falls down a little past my armpits and is slightly wavy. Soft light makeup covers my features, a little bit of eyeliner around my almond brown eyes.

Landing, I pull the duffle bag from the overhead compartment, and head through the tunnel to the terminal that I'm connected to. It's not surprising when there is rain falling down harshly outside, or that some people still have rain on their clothes, evident that they had just come from outside. I let my brown eyes flicker upwards towards the ceiling of the airport and scowl before hearing my name being called in the distance.

Smoothing my features, I get ready to go through the mass of people.

It's not surprising Charlie is standing by the tourist kiosk that is full of brochures. He's still wearing his work uniform, the hat sitting on his thinned haired head a good shield from the rain shower. He smiles when he sees me, his kind features are thinned out and he looks older than 37. He looks like he's at least 45. His job is killing him and yet he doesn't care.

When I reach him, he smiles warmly at me.

Awkward, but still with warmth.

"It's good to see you, Bells. Are you excited to go to Northwest School?"

I can't help but have my nose curl at the mention of the school.

He chuckles but doesn't say anything.

He's in the same boat as me.

We are simple, happy to be going to a normal public high school and not a boarding school like Northwest.

The school only has 530 students.

More students than Forks, but only by a little over two hundred.

I'm not looking forward to meeting any of them, but I know for the time being I have the perfect little student that Phil and Renee expect from me. They went out on a limb for me, and it turns out that something actually came out of it. And that includes wearing that horrible white and blue uniform that has no personality, I mean I'm not that much into fashion but still…a school uniform.

On the drive to the school, it doesn't take that long for us to arrive.

Taking a deep breath, I open the police cruiser door and step out.

Hopefully the summer will arrive before long, and Phil has had his fill with his stepdaughter going to a boarding school. Otherwise, I'd have to riot and go down to Forks instead.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I came up with the idea of Bella going to a boarding school randomly, I don't think I've seen that idea before. Anyway, I'm so glad that there is an actual boarding school in Seattle. Northwest School. Check out the pictures of it online, it's very unique.

As always: Twilight doesn't belong to me.

PS: this is supposed to be a better storyline for Alec and Bella than the last one. The last one wasn't that great at explaining things, but it should be easier with this one. The next two Guards I will be writing after this one and my Demetri one are:

Petrichor (M) What if Tyler's Van didn't hit Beau, but instead he was turned into a vampire that night by a nomad vampire? What if he became a part of the Cullens, and the Volturi Guard arrived to greet the newest family member? What if Jessiah stayed for Beau's first year only to realize he wanted to be a Cullen too? [Male Jane x Beau Swan]

3. Daffodil (M) What if Alice saw Bella Swan become a vampire and joining the Volturi? What if she and the family decide to try and attempt to have Bella chose them instead? What if the Volturi Guard came to take care of James, Victoria, and Laurent only for them to find out Felix was Bella's mate? What if Felix left the Volturi and decided to become a Cullen? [Felix Volturi x Bella Swan]
