Okay, so I posted a poll on here and Deviantart about if I should do an Owl House/Balan Wonderworld story of Hunter and Flapjack reuniting. Well, the votes are in and so here is the story. :)
A few things: this will be a journey about Hunter mostly, but his friends will either make cameo appearances or appear in memories. Also, Hunter will meet the inhabitants of Wonderworld and help them out. Last but not least, the story title and story itself are inspired by the song "I Am Moana/Song Of The Ancestors" from the Disney movie "Moana". :) This story takes place after "Thanks To Them" but happens around the beginning of "For The Future" and it will have spoilers for the Owl House show.
The Owl House belongs to Disney. Balan Wonderworld belongs to its respective owners. I only own Midnight, Stardust, and Malika.
A/N: No hateful reviews, please. Any hateful reviews will be removed and reported to the site. I'm not joking. If you don't like the story, you don't have to read it. You can skip it and go to another story. Be considerate of those that like the story. You can give an honest opinion without being mean. Treat the reviews as if you're the one receiving them. Now, on with the story! :)
Who You Are
Chapter 1
The group had made it to the Boiling Isles and found a place to hide out while figuring plans to help their friends and loved ones. Hunter felt a bit pensive about coming back, but Belos had to be stopped. Hunter was scared for what would happen if Belos did manage to get back into power. He had seen what the scary man could do and he didn't doubt for one moment that Belos was going to try everything to get back into power again.
Sighing, the ex-Golden Guard walked away, barely paying attention to his surroundings, but he then heard a chirp and lifted up his head, seeing a strange creature up ahead. It looked like a puffy bird, only it had odd wings and it was blue in color. It chirped at him and then hopped away. "Wait!" Hunter said, running after it and seeing it go into a building, he followed it, not realizing he was walking into a familiar theater.
A moment later, he found the puffball waiting for him and he picked it up. "Are you a palisman?" He asked curiously. "You're...You're like a bird, but...really fluffy."
A giggle sounded out and he turned, clutching the small creature protectively as he looked around. It was quiet for a moment before someone stepped out of the shadows. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you," she said, smiling.
Hunter blinked, taking in her appearance and noticing her dark hair and eyes. He also noticed her suit looked very familiar and the colors looked familiar too. He then looked around and his eyes widened at recognizing where he was. "Wait...am I...in the theater? The one owned by the wizards?"
The young woman before him laughed again. "You mean Dad and Uncle Lance?" She asked, still giggling.
He blinked. "Um...Lance, yeah. I...I don't know who your dad is," he said.
She smiled. "Balan is my dad," she said. "And you must be Hunter. Dad and Uncle Lance told me about you and your friends."
Hunter blinked again in shock. "You're...Balan's daughter?" He asked.
"Sure am," she said, taking a bow. "Malika, the Maestro of Reassurance. Welcome."
"Thanks," he said. "And...as you know, I'm Hunter." He then looked at the creature in his arms. "Um, what sort of palisman is this one?"
At the question, Malika smiled. "He's actually called a Tim," she said. "Creatures my dad guards and they are affectionate and very friendly." She then looked curious. "What is a...palisman, you said?"
He nodded. "They're small creatures that bond with us and allow us to use their powers," he said. "I...I used to have one, but...," he trailed off.
The young Maestro was worried when she saw Hunter look upset. "So that's why the theater came here," she said. "Your heart is sad."
He looked at her. "What do you mean?" He asked.
"Well, the theater is seen by those who need it, those who are sad, upset, hurt, and/or going through a hard time," she explained. "From the way you speak, it sounds like you lost a best friend."
Her gentle words made him tear up. "Y-Yeah," he said. "Flapjack...he was my best friend, besides the others."
Malika placed a hand on his shoulder. "Follow me," she said. "I'll take you to see Dad."
The ex-Golden Guard followed her to another room where Balan and Lance were, along with two other beings. One was in a purple suit and another was in a gray suit. They all turned their heads as Malika and Hunter arrived. "Guys, we have a visitor," she said softly.
Balan was first to see Hunter and he gasped. "Hunter," he said, concern in his voice as he went up to the boy, seeing the scars on his face. "Oh, my boy. What happened?" He asked, hugging the young man.
Hunter felt his shoulder start to shake as tears filled his eyes. Lance stood up, feeling the negativity from the young man. "The monster he and the others looked to escape from came back and took something very precious to Hunter," he said. "A dear friend."
The other two gasped in shock. "He's Hunter?" The purple-haired being asked.
"The same one that came with Luz, Amity, Gus, and Willow sometime back?" The gray-suited being asked.
"The same one," Balan replied as he lifted Hunter up as if he was a small child. "We're here, Hunter. Can you elaborate on what Lance just told us?"
Hunter nodded and brought them all up to date. When they heard of Belos' deeds, along with hurting Flapjack so badly, Malika looked like she was about to be sick. "That's...That's so awful," she said.
The other two nodded and went up to Hunter, who turned to them. "Sorry for the late intro," the purple-haired one said. "I'm Midnight, and this is my brother, Stardust. We help Balan, Lance, and Malika around the theater."
"Hi," the young man said softly.
Lance placed a hand on his shoulder. "Hunter, we're so sorry," he said softly.
"Thanks," Hunter said. "I...I miss Flapjack so much."
Tears filled his eyes and Malika looked up at her father. "Dad...is there a way...to reverse what that monster did?" She asked. "Can...Can Flapjack...possibly return?"
The young man looked at the young maestro, but he saw she was being serious. Balan turned to Lance, who nodded. "It...is possible," he said. "But...it is not so easy as snapping our fingers and the task being done."
"What do you mean?" Hunter asked, a bit confused.
"I think I know what Lance is saying," Stardust said. "It's like the time our creator thought she had lost her brother, but it turned out he was trapped somewhere. She had to overcome some obstacles to find out the truth and be reunited with him again."
"He's right," Midnight said before looking at Balan, who nodded before looking at Hunter, who looked up at him.
"Hunter...do you wish for Flapjack to return? To see your closest friend again and be reunited?" The tall being asked gently.
"But...how?" Hunter asked, his hand clutching over where his heart was. "He...He was dying and...he healed me, using the last of his power to do so. He...He's gone."
Tears filled the young man's eyes again and Malika took a deep breath, reaching out a hand and before them all, Hunter's heart of balance appeared. It was mostly pink, save for a small section near the top that was red in color with a golden light surrounding it. The young man gasped. "What...What's that?" He asked.
"Your heart of balance," Lance replied. "It looks like some of Flapjack's magic is within you."
"A piece of himself," Midnight said with a smile.
"He really cared for you," Stardust said gently.
"Saving you as you had saved him, even if it meant laying down his own life," Balan said. "He was a true friend."
Hunter couldn't stop gazing at the heart of balance and he sniffled. "Flapjack," he said softly.
Balan snapped his fingers and the heart vanished back into the boy. He then placed a hand on his shoulder. "Hunter...it is possible for you and Flapjack to be reunited, but the journey will not be an easy one," he said. "Do you wish for you and him to be reunited? For Flapjack to be restored?"
The young man looked at him. "You...You really mean it?" He asked. "Flapjack...can return?"
"Yes," Balan said with a nod.
"But as he said, it will not be an easy journey," Lance said.
"Once you start, there's no going back," Midnight said.
"You have to keep going, even when it gets tough," Stardust said.
Hunter nodded. "A quest to prove myself worthy?" He asked.
"Not so much prove yourself to us, but rather...prove yourself to you," Malika said gently.
Seeing the young man was confused, Balan elaborated. "What my daughter is trying to say is the journey is you overcoming your troubles and seeing just how far you've come from the person you were before you joined Luz and the others," he said.
"Makes sense," the young man said.
The others were quiet for a moment. "Balan, maybe we should allow Hunter some time to think about it before making his decision?" Midnight said.
"My sister's right," Stardust said. "It's a big decision."
"No," Hunter said, making them all look at him. "We don't have that much time. Our friends and family need our help and who knows what all the Collector has done to this realm. Plus, Belos is still on the loose and must be stopped." He clenched his hands into fists before looking up, his face set into a look of determination. "I'll do it, but not just for me. For my friends." A single tear slipped from his right eye and fell down his face. "For Flapjack."
Malika nodded. "He's ready," she said, seeing the same look on his face she had seen on other people who they all had helped.
Balan nodded and motioned to the white Tim that had led Hunter there. "Follow this Tim to where your journey will begin. There are twelve people who will help you along your journey that you must visit. This Tim will guide you there," he said.
"Okay," the young man said before pausing and hugging Balan. "Thank you."
"Of course, my boy," the tall being said. "Good luck."
As Hunter followed the Tim down the hall, the others gave words of encouragement. "Don't let your fear hold you back," Lance said.
"Remember what your friends have told you," Midnight said.
"Belos and the other naysayers don't matter to you," Stardust said.
Malika smiled as she hugged Hunter. "You're stronger than you think," she said. "Best of luck."
Nodding, he continued to follow the Tim to a new door and before he went in, he turned and waved to the five beings, who smiled and waved back. Hunter then took a deep breath and walked through the door, taking the first step towards his quest.
So, Hunter will meet the twelve inhabitants and help them out with certain tasks. Will he complete them and be reunited with Flapjack? We shall see. :)
