Chapter one

return home

The roaring sound of her own heavy breathing is all Kumiko Satsuki could hear. Fear driving her faster than she thought possible through the trees, hardly noticing the branches whipping against her skin . Breath Kumiko scolded herself gently. I just need to make it back home

Kumiko ducked behind a tree, panting slightly as she strained to hear her surroundings. The unforgiving wind bellowing through the canopy of leafs and her own heart beating rapidly in her chest were the only sounds she could hear.

The moon shone down, illuminating the blood soaked path before her. Kumiko averted her eyes trying to keep her composure. It's wouldn't do well to freak out now, I'm nearly there, she thought.

Ready to continue running to where she knew the Senkaimon will be, Kumiko gripped the handle of her zanpakuto tighter and pushed off the tree behind her

"Hadō # 30. Chikyū Seiren" said a deep voice way closer to her than she had thought possible. Kumiko dived out of the way of the red hot blast aimed directly for her. Blood trickled down from her purple hairline from the rock she collided with, hidden on the dark Forrest path. Wasting no time, Kumiko jumped back onto her feet, not daring to look back at the man she once called friend. Too scared to look back and see the mangled corpses of her teammates. Kumiko lifted up her zanpakuto and Jabbed it into what seemed like nothing, twisting her arm clockwise with a hurried "open"

Kumikos relief was plain on her face and she darted through the now opened senkaimon, running as fast as her worn out and damaged body would allow. Heavy panting and her own heavy footsteps were all she could hear. A small warm light at the end of the tunnel grew steadily bigger. Bursting through the second door, Kumikos body finally gave out, throwing her onto the floor of a grassy hill on the outskirts of soul society.

The hell butterfly that accompanied Kumiko through the senkaimon landed on her outstretched finger. "Sōtaichō" she breathed into the butterfly "they're gone, they're all gone" she sobbed before the sweet release of darkness took her.

The hell butterfly took its graceful flight toward the heart of soul society, straight to the outstretched finger of captain commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto. Eyes widen at the voice who the messaged came from

"Kumiko Satsuki" captain Yamamoto said gently, before flashstepping out of his office towards the dimming spiritual pressure of someone he's not seen in a long, long time

authors notes

so this is the first time I've ever tried something like this. And to be honest starting it was way harder than I thought it would be! I'm probably going to come back and fix this chapter, but for now at least I've got a starting point
