Chapter 4: Exchange of Information
"And what the hell are you caught up in!" Chelsea asks him.
Flea was currently stitching his head wound up and his friends had taken seats around the table.
"I currently just escaped the Chatelet and on the run from the Red Guards and maybe the Musketeers", D'Artagnan states, "But I don't think the Musketeers will take this very seriously"
"What the hell were you doing in the Chatelet?" Henri asks him astonished, "You have never been caught before!"
"I was wrongly accused you can say", D'Artagnan tells them, "Someone said they 'saw' me at a couple of the crime scenes, including one involving a Red Guard. And nobody but my Brothers/Comrades-in-Arms believe me!"
"Comrades-in-Arms?" Stella asks him.
"I am now a Musketeer. Earned my commission just a few months ago", he reveals to them.
Many chuckle at that.
"Who knew OUR Charles would be on the other side of the law?" Tristan chuckles.
"Do they know you were on the opposite side once?" Christian asks him.
"Only my Captain knows my past. Funnily enough he is my Godfather", D'Artagnan tells them taking a gulp of the wine as Flea finishes up.
"How on earth did you find that out?" Sarah asks him.
"He told me and a few documents escaped the wrecked of my family's home and were in the hands of family friends", D'Artagnan tells them, "He also when he meet me pulled me aside and explained a few things and when I told my story to him, he expressed his about not finding me and taking him in"
"I bet that was a shocker", Isabella states.
"Oh, it was. But we have agreed to keep this all a secret for now. I haven't even told my brothers", D'Artagnan replies.
"Oh, did you replace me did you?" Matthew asks him.
Matthew was 4 years older then him and had taken him in as his younger brother. D'Artagnan always knew back then Matthew had his back and if someone was picking on him Matthew normally took care of till, he was older enough to do it himself.
Actually, all his friends he considered his brothers and sisters. In the same way Athos, Porthos and Aramis were.
"Or us?" Rene asks.
"Or me?" Marcus asks.
D'Artagnan groans, "I haven't replaced you all. I just have added to my makeshift family"
"Have you met a woman in those three years?" Rozalin asks him.
"That is none of your business!"
"That's a yes! Our little boy is growing up", Matthew teases to Marcus.
"Where did the time go were he was an innocent!" Marcus says back.
"He was never innocent!" Rene says back.
"Will we get to meet them?" Zoey asks.
"If I ever get cleared of these charges, I'll introduce you", D'Artagnan promises.
"So, you're going to got back and face the music?" Juliette asks him, "As I take it you haven't told them about THIS part of your life you"
D'Artagnan winces at that, "Don't remind me. They are already going to be spitting mad as it is"
"Where are they?" Oceane asks him.
"On a mission they aren't due back to the end of the week", D'Artagnan replies.
He was half hoping it was longer. But with that meant his name wouldn't be cleared soon. So maybe it would be good for them to get back easily. Even if they come home to a nasty surprise.
"This is going to be a nasty surprise for them when they get back", Richard states.
"I know", D'Artagnan grimaces again.
"What was your sentence at the Chatelet?" Susan asks.
"It must have been bad for you to run", Seraphine pips up.
"Death", he replies simply.
"I see why you had to escape", Henri replies.
"How did you get out?" Isabella asks.
Christian snorts, "Like anyone could keep him locked up"
"He is just that good unless his skills disappeared with age", Tristan adds smirking.
"I have you know my skills are just fine thank you", D'Artagnan retorts, "How do you think I am here if I didn't have my skills?"
They all have to chuckle at that.
"So, who gave you all of this?" Apolline asks him.
"The Red Guards. The Red Guards and the Musketeers have a nasty history", he replies.
"So, you fight every other week?" Zoey asks.
"More like every other day. We really do hate each other", D'Artagnan replies taking a drink.
"I bet the Cardinal doesn't help", Susan tells him.
D'Artagnan looks at her curiously, "You could say that"
He wondered what his friends knew about the Cardinal.
"Actually the Cardinal hates me too. Since I have become a Musketeer, I seem to always been messing up his plans", "D'Artagnan reveals.
"That man is pure evil", Flea mutters.
"I have to agree. But trying to convince anyone else that is a waste of breath", D'Artagnan replies.
"Do you know anything about these murders?" Marcus asks him.
"They seem to be targeting the rich. But there is no clear pattern yet. Well at least as what Treville can tell", D'Artagnan replies.
"Could they be related to the ones around here?" Henri muses.
D'Artagnan looks at him sharply, "What do you mean around here?"
"There have been over a dozen murders and many attacks. We haven't been able to find the cause of all of this yet and people are scared", Flea reveals to him, "It is doing nothing for the atmosphere around here. I have had people looking into it. But it all leads to nothing"
"We have heard things. But they make little sense at the moment", Matthew adds.
"We also heard a couple of Red Guards have been killed too", Rene adds.
"We are going to have to spread out around the Court and see if we can actually get some information now that we are more focused and aware of the situation", D'Artagnan tells them.
"Do you think all of these things are connected?" Oceane asks him.
He nods, "I feel in my gut these are all connected. But I don't know how"
"You and your bloody gut", Patience complains.
"This is going to be a bitch to figure out", Chelsea grumbles.
"But we have to protect our people Chels. And I have to get cleared of these charges otherwise if they find me, I hang", D'Artagnan replies.
"Like they could find you Charles", Sarah chuckles.
"You DO like to say that you only get seen if you want too", Rozalin adds.
"And we doubt you want to be found now", Stella adds.
D'Artagnan chuckles, "I definably don't want to be found now. So, I am going to be like my nickname Shadow. I don't need the attention"
"What would you like us to do?" Paul asks him.
"I need us to spread out and cover as much of the Court and surrounds as we can. I believe going in pairs or triples the safe action here. We don't know who is doing this and we don't know why. We need safety in numbers", D'Artagnan replies.
"Will you be doubling up?" Delphine asks him.
He shakes his head, "You know I prefer to work alone and it would be harder for me to be 'the Shadow' with you all around"
"Point", Patience states.
"I am afraid I am going to maybe ask you to be runners to my brothers for me", D'Artagnan tells them, "When the time is right, I'll be giving you messages to give to Porthos. And only when he is alone or when Athos and Aramis are around"
"You'll owe us", Matthew warns him.
"I know. But I can't be seen anywhere near them until this is over because it would raise suspicion", D'Artagnan tells them.
"Porthos will want to come and see you", Flea states.
"If he comes, he won't find me. But I ask you guys to impress upon him and the others that finding me would just put me in unnecessary danger. That will get them to back off. For now", D'Artagnan replies.
"So those three are overprotective of you?" Marcus asks with a smirk.
"Annoyingly so and don't even start on what Aramis does when I am sick or injured!"
"So, three more for the Charles protection club!" Matthew exclaims teasingly.
"Don't you even dare!"
"Imagine the stories we can tell them as payback for Charles disappearing on us", Chelsea says with an evil smirk.
"That we can do!" everyone says.
Flea watches them in amusement.
"I hate you all and revenge will be mine if that happens!"

(Musketeer Garrison)
Treville just got the message he was waiting for. D'Artagnan had escaped the Chatelet without anyone noticing him. Treville had to admit he was impressed that nobody saw him leave. He had never seen the Lad's talents in action. But this proved that some of the rumours he heard around were true.
He just hoped they kept him alive.
He knew Three people who were going to skin people alive if they hurt their Little Brother. Treville also knew this was going to involve a lot of headaches and shouting when The Three Inseparables got back.
They weren't going to be happy.
Not at all…
