Chapter 4: I Will Find You
D'Artagnan had made the trip from Paris to the supposed ambush sight within three days. Pushing Buttercup to her limit to reach the sight quickly. As he didn't know how much time his Brothers would have.
He came to the place Treville had given him the details for and he could smell many scents here. He jumped off Buttercup and sniffed the air again smelling for the three scents he could pick out even in a crowd of hundreds.
And after a minute he concluded that this WAS the ambush sight. As he smelt the blood of his Brothers. That nearly made him explode in rage. But he took a deep breath knowing he had to search the area first.
He looked around the area getting low to the ground and letting his sharp eyesight scan the area. Even in human form his eyesight was better then any humans. And when he was in werewolf form, they were better than any normal wolf.
He sees a flicker of light in the grass and he moves towards it and finds Athos ring. He knew this ring was a gift from Athos's Brother and he would never leave it behind willingly. Tucking it into his pocket for now he sniffs out the area to search everywhere his Brothers touched.
Surprisingly it led to a hollow in a tree he frowns but reaches in and surprisingly finds the package.
"Why did they hide this?" D'Artagnan mutters, "Did they know they were going to be attacked?" he asks himself.
He knew he would have to keep this safe. His Brothers were probably being hurt right now to find this. So, whoever took them knew something about this package that they didn't.
D'Artagnan wasn't going to worry about what was in it now. He had more important things to worry about.
He sniffed around the whole area and came up with over a dozen different scents besides his Brothers. So definably they wouldn't be able to handle this many.
He found Aramis's pistol in the bushes and takes it. Knowing his Brother loved this pistol and he found Porthos dagger that he himself had given Porthos. There also was another item belonging to Athos a timepiece that Aramis and Porthos gave him and a chain that D'Artagnan had saved up to give him. He knew Athos treasured this piece as much as the ring.
"Athos blood", D'Artagnan sniffs and growls at what that meant, "Aramis and Porthos blood too", he sniffs in different areas.
That nearly sent him into a frenzy rage.
"Dozens of men. At least…", he sniffs, "15 humans…horses"
He sniffs out the graves of four of the attackers that his fellow Musketeers must have buried so 19 men all up.
"Bit of overkill here", D'Artagnan says to himself.
He would have his work cut out for him here. He might even when he finds them have to stay wolf to deal with at least 15 men. As Werewolves in their form were notoriously difficult to kill. It would be safer for him to go wolf. Not to mean that his human form was vulnerable. That form WAS strong. But his wolf form was stronger AND faster.
But that meant he would likely be showing his Brothers his secret. But he knew in his heart it would be the right call if he was going to save their lives.
He could deal with their hatred and fear of him if they were safe and well at home.
That was what he was going to keep telling himself anyway.
He walks over to Buttercup and places the items safely in his saddlebag. He would give those items back to his Brothers WHEN he dealt with the bastards that took them.
"Now girl follow me. But not too close", D'Artagnan tells the mare rubbing her nose.
Buttercup whines but nuzzles his face in understanding.
D'Artagnan backs up and looks at the sky and sees the sun at its peak. He would be having many hours as a wolf.
He once again lets go of his control of his wolf and transforms within a minute into the large Werewolf that he was.
Shaking his fur to settle himself from his transformation.
He looks up to the sky and thinks…
"Brothers I will find you! But you might not want me too when you learn my secret. I pray that you at least let me get you to safety before you dismiss me in disgust and fear", D'Artagnan thinks.
D'Artagnan moves graceful to the area the scents gather and knew that was the way they went.
"Time to do some tracking or should I call it hunting"
