When the week ended after the Entrance Exam Theldar was doing some heavy lifting in his room.
"Theldar my boy! Get down here and open U.A's letter!" Shouted Odin downstairs, making Theldar pause and think about what he should do now. "Alright!"
He got himself clothed after drying himself from the sweat coating his body. Opening his door he could smell his favorite meal being prepared, medium rare cattle meat with mashed potatoes, mushroom sauce, and some small amount of vegetables. His stomach growled as his heavy footsteps were heard coming from the stairs, making his presence known loudly. U.A's letter was on the living room table, showing the stamp and his name written on it.
"Come on boy, open it!" His father was sitting on the opposite side of where he would be sitting, sporting a wide grin as if already knowing the result. Theldar sat on the sofa as he picked up the letter, opening it carefully even when his dwarven instincts screamed at him for such delicate moves. The stamp was removed without ripping it, showing respect for the school.
As the letter opened Theldar looked inside it, seeing two pieces of paper and a metal disc. Taking out the smaller paper first he saw an instruction on how to use the metal disc. "A hologram, huh?" Theldar looked at the disc, setting it on the table as instructed.
*Ding* The lights turned on and a screen was produced on the table, large enough to be a small TV screen. "I AM HERE...AS A PROJECTION!" The person on screen was no other than All Might, making Theldar feel like his body was brought to a mine full of gold. "YOUNG THELDAR MOUNTAINBACK, AS YOU CAN SEE I AM HERE AT U.A AS THE NEWEST TEACHER!" Theldar's eyes widened for a bit before closing, shouting out a short burst of laughter.
"Alright, back on track! In the written exam you did good, I might even say even better than me! You got a good 89% score, which is very good for an upcoming hero! Now onto the practical exam!"
A screen lit up behind All Might as he theatrically moved his arms to show the said TV. "Villain points: 67! That would be good enough for a passing grade, but as a hero school, we do not ignore acts of selflessness! Rescue points: 52! You went out of your way to protect the same boy numerous times, even helping him to destroy the robots! Then there are the numerous different acts of kindness in getting others out of danger!" The screen switched from camera to camera, showing the acts of heroism as he dashed in front of a girl to take a punch to the back from a One-Pointer. "Then there is the destruction of the Zero-Pointer! That alone got you 30 points!" A scoreboard appeared, showing Theldar in first place.
"Welcome, Young Theldar Mountainback, to Your Hero Academia!"
"MY BOY GOT IN!" As that scream got out Theldar was engulfed in a rock-crushing hug, courtesy of his father. His mother was in the doorway to the kitchen, smiling sweetly as Odin let go of his son. "Let's have dinner sweety, I made your favorite for today." His mother talked softly, her voice low but audible.
Theldar had a skip to his step as he made his way toward U.A High, his next step in becoming a hero. His evening after the revelation was filled with partying and a small spar with his father. The next morning he woke up at 5 A.M, pumped full of nerves and energy.
His walk had a small skip to it, his face morphed by the gigantic grin he was sporting. Some passersby couldn't help but look at him weirdly, before seeing U.A's school uniform on him and turning away. The morning was quiet as he turned a corner, finally seeing the iconic U.A building in the distance.
His feet stopped, feeling the burn in his stomach as excitement melted his rationality. But before he could sprint toward U.A in an excited frenzy, his more calculative mind calmed him down. His planned sprint of using Dash and Second Wind was simply turned into a normal sprint without quirks.
The gate was big, wide enough to fit 12 people from shoulder to shoulder, and tall enough to fit even the tallest of students. There were already some students walking around and getting familiar with the school layout.
Theldar's eyes fell on a map of the school, giving some vague directions to classrooms. With the route to his class put to memory, he speedwalked toward it.
When his eyes fell on the tallest door he had ever seen, he stopped for a second before grinning even more. 'U.A does not mess around with its students.'
The door opened fairly easily, as it slid to his right. His eyes fell on the only student in the room, looking at him with widened eyes.
He could already hear the question coming up: "Why is a grown man in the U.A school uniform?" That question started being asked when his beard started growing at the age of 12 at a speed unmatched by anyone else he knew. His beard was long enough that it covered his chest, going down to his stomach. Even when his father had taught him a braid style that was fashionable but also length-reducing it was still unbelievably long.
"No need to ask 'ye question, I am a healthy 15-year-old dwarf." He answered the unasked question with a small smile.
The girl blushed and averted her eyes out of embarrassment. "Sorry for staring." Her apology was almost too quiet to hear, but the silence in the classroom enhanced any sound that was in it. Theldar looked at his sheet of paper, looking at the seating numbers, and seeing that his seat was right in front of the tall girl.
He set his schoolbag down next to his table, taking out a drawing book and some pencils. His mind veered toward his armor and weapon designs, looking at any mistakes he could have made in his excitement a week ago. He saw that the metals that were going to be used were not good for his design, as they would be brittle and easily break if sufficient strength was used. The next was the connections on the knees and elbows, as they would be uncomfortable to move in as the sharper edges scraped against the undersuit and scratched his skin.
It wouldn't do anything bad to his skin per se, but it was annoying to feel something scratch against him with every movement.
"You are very attentive to the details of your hero suit." The tall girl sounded a bit impressed at the artistic skill he was showing in his notebooks. He chuckled, not looking away as his usual answer came out, "I am a dwarf, I get the artistic skills of their smithing, the strength of their warriors, and the knowledge of their scientists." The girl seemed to be confused at that, so he elaborated: "The dwarves of Norse were warriors, artisans, smiths, and scientists that furthered their kingdoms into great heights, I get the qualities of them all so I am a Great Dwarf." Theldar could feel the understanding flowing off her.
"Thank you for the explanation, I am Yaoyorozu Momo." She bowed as her name was filed into a drawer inside Theldar's mind.
"The name's Theldar Mountainback, call me Theldar because Mountainback doesn't roll off the tongue." Their conversation ended there as Theldar focused back on his work, while Momo went back to her seat behind him. Time passed quickly for Theldar, his focus firmly placed on his drawings, more people came to class, some approaching him but seeing as his focus was on sketches and designs.
When his attention was drawn away from his book, it was the door that was shoved aside with a loud bang.
Bakugou walked into the class, eyes darting over every single person inside before landing on Theldar. With a mad snarl, he stomped over.
With Bakugou's intention clear as day, Theldar sat up and cracked his knuckles in preparation for a short fight.
"Oi dwarf, I'll become number one! Even if I'll have to explode you to pieces in the progress," Bakugou leaned down a bit, "and don't even think about half-assing our fights!"
With his words said he walked to his assigned desk, which was to the right of Theldar's desk.
With that introduction of Bakugou's personality out of the way, others started to introduce themselves to Theldar. He personally likes Kirishima, as his quirk is largely focused on physical power.
"Hey man, I gotta ask, but how did your muscles so bulked up?"
Theldar grinned at him and started listing things off in strength building: "The first thing you have to train is the heart, as it pumps blood with the oxygen and nutrients required for keeping your body active. When training it is important to have eaten at least an hour before, as it gives energy for you to use. The next thing is to eat iron-rich foods, as iron is needed to transport oxygen, you got that?" Kirishima nodded, having procured a notebook to write everything on it.
"Now is the training part. You need to start on the lower body, as it keeps your whole body up. Some simple sets of squats are good for everyday training, but you can do some anaerobic running to make the muscles more efficient in energy usage, you must never also forget about your ligaments, they keep you moving. Now onwards to the middle and upper body."
With Theldar and Kirishima discussing training, with the latter asking questions and nodding frequently, the time passed.
When the door was opened by Midoriya, his face paled as he saw Bakugo and Iida Tenya arguing. When Iida noticed Midoriya he walked over to him.
"Hello, I am Iida Tenya from Soum-" "I heard! U-uhm, I'm Midoriya..."
"Midoriya...I must hand it to you. You managed to figure out the real reason behind the Zero-Pointer's emergence. I was...blind to the reason what heroes are supposed to be. I must admit, you were better than me!" And then Iida did a perfect 90-degree bow, making Midoriya stutter out of surprise.
"Oh, it's you! Curly-haired boy!" When Midoriya turned around he saw the girl that he saved. "I'm glad you made it in, just like Present Mic said! And that punch you did against the Zero-Pointer was amazing!" With multiple praises coming his way, from a girl nonetheless, Midoriya stammered and muttered out an incoherent reply.
"If you are here to find friends, go somewhere else." A dead voice sounded from the floor behind the girl. Theldar wondered if a zombie had appeared.
"This is the department..." A juice pack appeared in the dead man's hands."...of Heroics!" With an audible slurp, he stood up, revealing a face in a sleeping bag.
"Hm, it took you all 8 seconds to quiet down. Life's short kids, you gotta make every second count." His sleeping bag was slid off, revealing black clothes and a grey scarf. "I'm your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shouta." He rummaged through the bag, pulling out some clothes. "Put these gym uniforms on, now. Then come to the P.E. grounds outside the school.
"A Quirk Apprehension test!?" The loud question came from most of the class.
"But what about the entrance ceremony!? And the guidance counselor meeting!?" Uraraka asked, her face showing surprise and worry.
"If you want to become heroes, you won't need any nice ceremonies." Aizawa looked over his shoulder, his emotionless eyes sending a shiver of excitement through Theldar. "The school is known for its freedom, and that freedom extends to us teachers.
"Softball pitch, standing long jump, and so on. These are all activities you are all familiar with from middle school. Physical tests where you were barred from using your quirks. The country still hasn't gotten around to standardizing those sorts of records or keeping track of average performance levels. Well, that's the negligence of the Ministry of Education." Aizawa turned to Theldar, "Theldar, how far did you pitch a softball in middle school."
A thoughtful look came over Theldar, thinking for a couple of seconds. "About 170 meters." A gasp of awe came from around him. Aizawa threw a softball at Theldar, who caught it without blinking.
"Use your quirk this time. Anything's fine as long as you stay in the circle." He stood away from Theldar, giving room for anything he might do.
Theldar's mouth formed into a grin, ideas flowing around already. His mind decided on a creative way of getting the softball to go sky-high.
He placed his left foot right under him, with his right going in position next to him. His arms crackled with faint blue lightning, powering his muscles up. His right leg pushed him, making his body spin as his right arm, holding the softball, extended out. The lightning made it seem as if his body was spinning faster than he was. Another push accelerated him more, as a faint cracking could be heard from Theldar.
The ground under his left foot started smoking, indicating the heat his soles were making.
With a deep inhale, Theldar cocked his arm back at the right moment, his face a wild grin. "FOR..." He threw the softball with all his might, creating a sonic boom multiple times as the ball soared further out. "KARL!"
