Element of Surprise
Part 6: Sharing A Secret
Samantha peeked in and noticed that the two were sleeping. She decided to go back to the sunroom with the babies. Again, they were in their circle again. 'Why are the babies in a circle?' She used her link to check on them and found they had set up a block that surprised her. 'That is their private circle? We must not invade?' Samantha had to smile because they were being secretive. Haley was lying near the circle but was not part of the group.
*Can I join them?* Haley asked.
"You can," Samantha sted. "How about I lay you in the circle."
*Hi . . . * Haley said to her cousins. She hadn't had a chance to really converse with the boys and the only other girl in the group.
*Hi Haley," Jax communicated to her.
*So, what is the circle for?* Haley asked.
*Can you keep a secret?* Caleb asked.
*I don't know,' Haley answered Caleb's question. "Never had a secret to keep. What's a secret?*
Caleb thought for a moment. *Mmmm. What you see here, you can't tell anyone else, not even your Dad.*
*I promise.*
The four who knew the secret looked around to see that no one was watching. *Okay, the coast is clear,* Caine said. *Mommy's busy reading something. You have to watch out for her, since she's Atlantean and can sense things.*
*I wish we were in the nursery doing this," Jaylyn stated. 'Then there would be no need.*
*Watch this, Haley,'
Jax pulled out a metal ball that he had hidden. He placed it in the middle. He took in a deep breath and let his energy out. The ball started to stretch into different shapes.*
Haley's eyes went wide. * That's amazing.*
Jax*pretty cool huh?*
*Oh yes,* Haley started kicking her legs excitedly. *Does uncle Jason have special powers too?*
*My Dad? I don't know. I'll ask my Daddy, later.*
*That would be cool if he does,* Caine stated.
*it would,* Jax said. "He could probably help me with mine.*
*Right now, Daddy is learning to be a nurse.*
*He's going to teach my mom some stuff, too?* Caleb asked. *Uncle Jay will be the best nurse ever!*
*Teach Mommy?* Caine asked.
*Mommy wants to be a nurse,* Caleb responded to his brother. *Uncle Jay will be able to help teach her some stuff . . . Right?*
*I'm not sure he can,* Jaylyn added.
Jax formed the metal ball into a flower and placed it onto Haley. *Daddy won't mind helping Aunt Samantha, I'm sure.*
*Oh . . . Pretty . . .*
*I like making flowers,* Jax replied. *I want to show Mommy, but I'm scared.*
*Why?* Caine asked.
*What if she doesn't want me . . .*
*Why would Mommy think that?* Jaylyn questioned.
*Jaylyn, I'm a crawling magnet and I can bend metal. Don't you think that's weird?*
*Why would I think it's weird. You're my brother.*
Jax hugged his sister. *I know, I'm just scared. Be there when I tell Mommy and Daddy?*
*Of course,* Jaylyn agreed.
Jax grabbed the metal flower and made it back into a ball. *When is Daddy coming home? I'm bored.*
*I think he has lab today and he has to be there until 6:00*
Jax looked at the clock. The little hand was half way between the one and the two and the big hand was at the six. *Two thirty,* Jax sighed and leaned onto his sister.
*Uncle Tim hasn't did our lessons for a long time.*
*He hasn't,* Jax realized. *Though I think he's not feeling good right now.*
*Daddy got really freaked out,* Caine said. *I could feel it. Someone buried him alive. He almost died. I almost lost my Daddy. *Caine started tearing up.
Caleb leaned onto Caine. *It's okay. Daddy is still here with us.*
*I . . . Am glad . . . I don't want him to go away like that.*
Caleb tried to sooth Caine's aura.*
"Da . . . Da ". . . *I want Daddy.*
"Caine?" Samantha picked up on Caine's distress. "Uncle Dick has him right now. They are sleeping."
"Dada, dada," Caine voiced in unrest, but voices more in his mind, projecting his thoughts. *I want Daddy, Now!*
"Caine, I do not appreciate you yelling at me and if you continue doing it I will put you in time out."
"Waaaa Dada."
*Caine, stop crying. Daddy will be up soon. Then you can spend all the time with him."
Caine crawled away from the circle. *Mommy wouldn't help me. I want Daddy. I almost lost a part me. Mommy doesn't understand. I felt him freak out.*
*Then tell her,* Caleb said as he watched as his brother crawled away.
Caine quickly crawled out of the sunroom and headed toward the steps. *I didn't want to scare Caleb, but when I felt Daddy almost die, I felt my own breath going away. It scared me. Caleb was asleep and did not know.*
Samantha got up and followed. She hadn't seen her second son so determined before. She had gotten up and watched as Caine went over to the stairs. She leaned onto the wall and folded her arms. 'Stubborn, just like his father.'
Caine sat there for a moment and stared at the stairs. How hard could it be. He placed his hands on the first step. He brought his knew up but couldn't quite get it up. He reached for the second and pulled on the carpet. That brought his knew up and he was suddenly He did the same technic again, climbing onto the second step. He started to climb up onto the third when Caine slipped. He caught himself and climbed up on the third. He took a breathe. *Climbing stairs is hard work.*
Samantha smiled. 'My baby was climbing the stairs.' She took a quick photo with her phone and moved so she was behind him just in case he got tired or fell backwards. It was a slow process, but soon Samantha saw that Caine had reached the top step and was crawling quickly down the hall.
Caine reached the end of the hall where Uncle Dick's room was. The door was closed. He patted the door. "Dada . . . Dada . ."
"Okay, my little man," Samantha said, and opened the door for her son and let him in.
Caine crawled over to the bed. He got on his knees and tried to pull himself up, but slipped. "Dada."
Samantha shook her head and picked Caine up so he could see his father. Tim was cradled in Dick's arms, his body curled up against his brother. Samantha placed Caine on the bed.
"Dada," Caine said as he crawled over to his daddy and leaned against him. He was worn out from crawling. Caine closed his eyes.
"Well, looks like you'll be staying here," Samantha said as she left the room, closing the door a bit. 'Caine wanted his dad, nothing I can do about it. I'll let him nap in here.'
Tim felt something small and warm lean against him. He looked down to see it was Caine. He pulled an arm out and draped it around his son and started to drift back to sleep when he noticed his son was distressed. "Caine, it's okay. I'm fine. Your Uncle was helping me."
*You almost died,* Caine said, curling up. *And so did I.*
"What? No, Caine you cannot die. You have to stay here."
*Why? I'm a part of you.*
"I know, but I created you with my aura so your mother would always have a part of me if something should happen. You must carry on the fight. You will be Red Robin someday. You must stay alive for me and for Mommy."
*Are you going to die?* Caine asked.
"No. Your Mommy, Uncles and Grandfather won't allow it. Go to sleep Son. I'll be here when you wake up."
