I know I haven't updated in a long time. I've been really busy lately, but now, finally, I can update more.
I'm Screwed, So Screwed
Jo is screwed. She is so screwed. First, she discovered that her baby had a hearing problem. Then she realized that the only person who could help was her ex-husband, the one who had left her with a letter. And now? Now he's here! She knew she had to face him, but she thought she had a few more days to prepare.
"You told me he would be here in a few days!" Jo yelled.
"Hey! It's not my fault that this idiot decided to come earlier," Mark retorted.
"Why are you yelling at me? Stop yelling at me!" Jo exclaimed.
"Don't yell at her! She's freaking out here!" Lexie demanded.
"I wasn't yelling at her!" Mark defended himself.
"Okay, we're all freaking out here. Let's just take a few deep breaths," Mark suggested.
Jo and Lexie followed his instructions.
"Alright, that's good. Everything is going to be fine. Now, let's think about what we're going to do," Mark said.
"Jo, you don't have to make a decision now. He'll be here for at least a few more days to make sure everything is okay with Luna. If you want to avoid him completely, we can make that happen. But if you want to talk to him, you have enough time to think about it," Lexie said.
"Thank you. I still have some time before my next patient. I'm going to check on Luna," Jo said before leaving, leaving Mark and Lexie alone in the room.
"Tell me if I'm wrong, but is there a chance that she's... how do I say this... overreacting?" Mark asked
Lexie gave him a stern glare. Yes, it was definitely time for Mark to shut his mouth.
"Come on, baby, mommy needs to go," Jo said, trying to calm down Luna, who was crying.
Usually, Luna didn't cry that much when Jo had to leave her. Like the other kids at daycare, she was used to her mother checking on her for only a few minutes. But the daycare workers knew something about Luna - once she started crying, it was impossible to calm her down. Only her mother could do it.
"Hey! Look at this little bunny! Isn't he cute?" Jo said in a baby voice, showing Luna a doll.
Suddenly, Jo's pager went off. "Oh God, I have to go," she said, giving the daycare worker Luna and rushing to her critical patient.
Seeing her mother leave, Luna started to cry louder.
Even after Jackson and April left for Boston, the plastic was inseparable. Jackson and Mark used to talk over the phone at least once a week.
"So, how are you and April doing?" Mark asked Jackson.
"We are doing great, actually. We told Harriet last night, so we are very serious about getting back together. She couldn't stop talking about it all night. We have been talking about moving in together. It was hard hiding it for more than seven months, but we just wanted to make sure that we were going to make it work this time," Jackson said.
"I remember how careful Callie and Arizona were before they told Sofia that they got back together. She was so happy. What did Harriet say about that?"
"She was so happy. I think she already figured it out, and she was happy that we finally decided to tell her. How are you and everyone else?"
"Let's just say none of us are getting much rest. It seems like whenever we think there's no drama in Seattle, something comes along and makes a big mess," Jackson replied with a sigh.
"Why? What is happening in Seattle?" Jackson asked.
"Alex came back."
"What?" Mark could hear the shock in Jackson's voice.
"Luna... she has a progressive hearing problem. We asked Alex to assist me with the surgery," Mark explained.
"I think that you're the one who would assist him if he came to Seattle all the way from Kansas," Jackson teased.
"Shout up, Avery."
"How is Jo dealing with all of this?" Jackson asked.
"She is very stressed out about everything. I mean, it's not that hard. If you love someone, you tell him. You can't waste it," Mark said.
"It's not that simple, and you know it, Mark," Jackson said.
"I know, it's just..."
"When you finally get what you wanted for so long and see how happy you are to have these people, it feels ridiculous to think that you could miss it all because you were afraid," Jackson said softly, looking at April and Harriet playing and laughing.
"Yes. Exactly," Mark said with a smile.
Alex just sat and thought about Jo. He couldn't believe it. He tried to fight this feeling for so long. He had a beautiful wife and amazing kids. They lived on a beautiful farm with animals. He's supposed to be happy! But he couldn't. The only thing that gave him joy were the twins.
Suddenly, a nurse came and interrupted his thoughts.
"Dr. Karev! One of the kids got hurt in the daycare. They don't have enough workers to bring him here, and all the nurses are very busy. Can you please go and check on him?"
Alex noticed all the pressure in the hospital today. Many of the doctors and nurses were sick, so they really needed his help.
"I'll be right there," he informed her. He signed and walked over to the daycare.
When he arrived at the daycare and saw all the kids playing, he smiled. He remembered how he used to imagine Jo and his kids playing there. He always knew that Jo was going to be an incredible mother.
"Hey, I'm Dr. Karev. I'm here to check on one of the kids."
"Oh, yes. This is Liam. He hurt in her head, and he didn't cry, and he acted a little weird after."
"Hey Liam, come here," Alex said with a big smile. The toddler came to him with a big smile.
Alex checked his head.
"There is no swelling in his head, and he walks just fine. He is fine."
'Why do they let people who don't know anything about kids?' Alex thought to himself.
Suddenly another dayworker came with a crying toddler. Alex could see that the toddler had been crying for a while.
When he saw her, he felt something. She wasn't just another crying toddler. Alex stared at the toddler and checked her with his eyes. Something about her was special.
"Can you give me her? I can calm her down," Alex suggested.
"She has been crying for an hour. There is no way you can calm her down."
"I'm pretty good with kids," Alex stated confidently.
The moment Alex took the little girl into his arms, she magically stopped crying.
The daycare worker was completely shocked.
Alex tickled Luna. They both laughed for a while.
"You are so cute, you know that?"
"Luna can be very cute when she is not crying," the daycare worker said, smiling widely at Luna.
"Is that Luna? Luna Willson?" Alex asked surprisingly.
"Yes, she is Dr. Willson's daughter. Do you know her?"
"I'm her doctor. I'm the surgeon who is going to try and fix her hearing," Alex said.
"Hey! Don't put it in your mouth!" The daycare worker said to one of the toddlers and hurried to take it from him, leaving Luna with Alex alone.
Alex looked at Luna. This felt so natural to him. He felt like this was something that he meant to do. Just hold Luna in his arms, and it looks like Luna feels the same.
In the moment Alex already knew. He already loves this child deeply.
Alex is screwed. So screwed.
