Halloween was the time for candy and dressing up. At least that's what Harry James Potter thought it was about. That's all his cousin Dudley talked about. The seven-year-old never had the pleasure of doing all of that. Harry was sitting in his cupboard looking through the grate. What he saw was his uncle helping Dudley put on his costume. Harry couldn't make out what was. All he knew was that it looked fun to put on one. "You look great!" his aunt's screaking voice made him close his eyes.

"I will get all of the candy," Dudley said, looking at Harry through the grate with an evil smile. Harry opened his eyes and sighed. Dudley then laughed. His laugh was distant as they walked out the door.

"Yes, you will," Harry heard his uncle say before the door slammed shut.

Harry could not sleep. So, instead, he found some old newspaper and started to make a mask. He giggled when he poked holes for the eyes and mouth. He giggled even louder when he put it to his face. "Rarr," he said, holding out his hands like claws. "I'm a monster, Rarr," he said again louder this time. No one was home, so he could be as loud as he wanted.

The masked children around him kept him hidden as he walked down the street. He must get the boy. Peter Pettigrew smiled darkly as he adjusted the rat mask on his face when he walked up to house number four.

Peter took a deep breath as he kicked the door. He then looked around him before he opened it. Now that Sirius was freed and coming to get the boy tomorrow, Peter had to ensure that didn't happen. Once he was inside, he felt relieved. While he didn't see anyone, he kept the mask on. "Harry," he whispered as he walked around the house.

Harry was oblivious to the intruder and continued to make masks, talking to himself.

"Rarr!" Peter turned around from his spot in the dining room when he heard a child. "Harry?" he asked, walking back to the hall by the front door. When he got there, he saw a small door with a lock bolted to the door. Why was he hearing a child in a cupboard? Was he playing? If so, why was there a lock there? Peter shook his head from the questions and undid the lock. He took a deep breath before he threw open the door. The tiny room filled with light, making the small child drop the paper mask and close his eyes.

"I'm…I'm sorry sir…don't…don't hurt me." Peter smiled sadly at the boy. "I couldn't sleep…I'm sorry," he added opening his eyes, that's when Peter recognized the boy as Harry. His former best friend's son and Godson sleeping in a cupboard scared that he was going to be hurt because he couldn't sleep. Peter got down to his knees.

'Why am I comforting this child? I should get him and take him? But he's so sad and scared.' Peter shook his head and took off his mask. He saw the boy move back and started to cry louder. He shook his head as he looked at Harry, who had his eyes closed.

"I'm not going to hurt you, Harry. I'm a friend of your parents," Peter said, fiddling with the mask in his hands. Harry looked up. His eyes lit up. Peter smiled and handed him the mask. "I have a mask too, look," Peter said, Harry took the mask.

"You…you knew my parents?" he asked, looking over the mask. Peter nodded and laughed a little.

'What am I doing? I can't kidnap a child. The Dark Lord needs me and I'm...' Peter looked at the boy who was looking at the door. Peter stood up. He had to get out there. What was he thinking? "Yes well, it was worth a try," he said laughing nervously. "I should..." Peter stopped when someone walked up the stairs.

"The doors open. That's not a good sign. Harry! Is everyone alright? I'm here to look after Harry," the voice said, worry dripping from his voice Peter's smile dropped.

'No, no, that's Lupin's voice!' Peter thought before he ran to the back door and ran outside.

"Where are you going?" Harry whispered, but the back door slammed shut before he could get an answer.

Remus Lupin smiled when he reached house number four. He was going to take Harry trick-or-treating before bringing him back home with Sirius. He looked down at the muggle wizard costume in his hands. He could not wait to help look after him with Sirius. However, his smile dropped when he saw the front door wide open. "Harry!" Remus called, rushing into the house.

Remus saw the door under the stairs open and saw who he was looking for. "Oh, Harry. Are you alright?" he said calmly, making Harry open his eyes. Harry nodded and wiped the tears from his eyes and slowly smiled, that surprised Remus.

"I'm Harry," he said quietly. The man smiled at him.

"Hello, Harry. I'm Remus Lupin. Your parent's friend," Remus said, holding out his hand. Harry's eyes lit up, but there was a tint of confusion on his expression. Remus looked at the mask next to him on the small bed, which made Moony angry. They will deal with that later. 'A rat mask. Wormtail? No, no, it can't be. He wouldn't go to Harry.' Remus thought as he helped Harry up. Harry stood up and brushed himself off. Harry's eyes were drawn to the outfit in his hand. Remus smiled.

"I can get some candy?" Harry asked, his voice filled with wonder. Remus nodded.

"Yes, and do you want to live with me and your Godfather?" Remus asked. Harry's eyes widened. Remus laughed, and he knew that this was going to work, they were going to have so many Halloweens in the future.
