Thanks to all readviewers! I'm still traveling, bleurgh, so here's a quick expansion of a drabble I wrote in 2019. It's not a full expansion (I definitely intended there to be more behind the change than just this one factor), but since I would really like to get to bed before midnight for once on this trip...
Prompt: Show a change in (at least) one of the Friends of Narnia from another person's POV.
"It's just...ever since summer hols...you changed. You smile less. You think more. You look through me more often than you look at me. I miss my friend."
The words hung in the air between them.
Lucy twisted her hands in her lap. Without looking up, she asked, "Did you really tell Anne you were tired of me?"
Marjorie choked. "What? That's not—where did you hear that?"
"Does it matter? It's been there in my head ever since."
"I didn't mean it," said Marjorie desperately. "It was Anne, and you know she's always been happy to jibe at anyone she considers lower than her, and then by bad luck we ended up on the same bench, and she said...I just..."
She trailed off. Across the room, Lucy's wet brown eyes rose to meet hers.
"I'm sorry," said Marjorie in a tiny voice.
A few moments later, both little girls were crying in each other's arms.
