It's a peaceful night in Downtown City. The stars twinkle bright, and the moon shines even brighter. Suddenly, a meteor shower streaks across the sky.

A hedgehog named Russell Ferguson peeks out of a window and sees the meteors rush by. He sees a big flash not far from here. Russell is amazed. "Wow!"

The very next day, Russell is at the day camp with his friends, Zoe Trent the dog, Minka Mark the monkey, Sunil Nevla the mongoose, Vinnie Terrio the gecko and Penny Ling the panda. Zoe looks over at Russell. "Russell, you look so ecstatic."

Russell nods. "I am! Last night, I saw a meteor land in Downtown City! No joke. A meteor."

The other pets look at Russell and talk among each other. Sunil turns to Vinnie. "A meteor?"

Vinnie is just as confused. "As in the rock from outer space."

Russell nods again. "Yeah! That's right Vinnie. And it's a miracle because most meteors are destroyed before they even hit the Earth's atmosphere. Meteors that make it through the atmosphere are called meteorites."

This fact amuses the pets. They talk amongst each other again. Then Minka gets an idea. "Hey! Why don't we go and see the meteor?"

All the pets cheer at the idea. Even Russell is impressed. "That's a great idea, Minka! We might even get to take it in to the day camp to investigate."

Penny can't wait to see the meteorite. "Let's go ask Blythe if she can take us to the park."

The pets use the dumbwaiter in the day camp to travel up to Blythe Baxter's room. The pets are all eager to see Blythe, and she's also eager to see them. "Hey, everybody. What's up?"

Russell jumps out of the dumbwaiter. "Blythe, can you take us to the park? A meteorite landed there last night."

Blythe smiles at the pets. "Of course."

Blythe gets on her scooter and the pets hop into the sidecar. They travel all the way to the park. As soon as the scooter stops, Russell is the first pet to get out of the sidecar. "The meteorite landed here, I just know it! I saw the flash of light over there. Zoe, do you think you can track it down?"

Zoe sniffs the air. "Of course, Russell. I have a perfect sense of smell."

She sniffs the ground, searching for anything that fell from outer space. The other pets follow her and soon, they come across a big trail on the ground, near a pile of dirt.

Pepper can't believe her eyes. "That's what we're looking for? A pile of dirt?"

Russell shakes his head. "Not a pile of dirt. This must be where the meteorite landed."

Minka gets ready to dig. "Let's see if you're right!"

The pets begin digging at the pile of dirt. After a moment, they soon notice what they're looking for. Russell's eyes widen. "It's the meteorite!"

He's right. In front of the pets is a glowing, silver meteorite. A few bumps are popping out of it like warts.

Sunil is impressed. "That's the meteorite? It looks amazing."

Russell nods. "Yeah. I don't think I've even seen a rock with bumps in it before."

Vinnie is so excited. "Hey, let's take it home!"

So the pets and Blythe take the meteorite back to the day camp. Blythe rests the meteorite near the center. "I'm going to go back to work. You can have a look at the meteorite."

As Blythe leaves the day camp, the pets gather around it.

Pepper looks over at it amusingly. "Wow. A real meteorite from outer space!"

Penny scratches her chin. "Why do you think it's glowing?"

Russell shrugs. "I don't know, Penny Ling. It's probably because since it's not from around here, it must be different. It looks like it's giving off some sort of energy."

Vinnie puts his hands on one of the meteorite's bumps. "Hey, it feels like it's giving off a new type of energy."

Minka leaps onto the meteorite. "Wow! It feels so bumpy."

Russell doesn't approve of this. "Hey, guys, get off the meteorite. We need to expose it to Earth air for a little while."

But the pets don't listen to him and keep touching the meteorite. Russell sighs. "Well, in that case…"

He walks over to the meteorite and touches it. "Hey, it doesn't feel so bad. And Vinnie's right: it is giving off a new type of energy."

Sunil licks the meteorite. "It tastes different as well."

Russell frowns. "Sunil, don't eat it, please."

Sunil keeps away from the meteorite, but he continues looking at it. Russell keeps touching the meteorite. "I wonder what secrets it might hold. Maybe we should ask Blythe to call scientists to have a look at it."

For the next few minutes, the meteorite is the pet's main focus. Minka even paints a picture of the meteorite. The pet who's the most interested in the meteorite is Russell, eager to take notes of what the meteorite may be capable of. He writes on a clipboard. "OK, what we know so far is that the meteorite glows and is covered in bumps. But that's just on the outside."

Suddenly, his pencil breaks. "Shoot! Anyone seen a pencil sharpener?"

Pepper points up. "There's one on that shelf."

She's right. On the shelf is a metal pencil sharpener.

Russell walks over to the shelf, but it's much higher than him. He jumps up again, and again. He stacks different things and tries to climb them up to the shelf, but it's still too high for him. Russell sits down in defeat and puts his hands on his head. "This is hopeless."

Suddenly, he notices his front paws glowing. "Huh?"

The pencil sharpener glows and floats down to Russell's back paws. Russell removes his paws from his head. He can't believe it. "What just happened?"

He turns to the other pets. "Hey, everybody! I don't know what happened! I was trying to get a pencil sharpener when my paws glowed."

His paws glow again. He puts his paws back on his head. The pencil and the sharpener glow as well! The pencil goes into the pencil sharpener and pencil shavings fall. Then they glow and float into the bin. The glowing stops and the pencil comes out nice and pointy. Russell is amazed. "Just like that."

The other pets are amazed. Pepper's jaw drops. "Woah! You did that?"

Russell looks at the clipboard, his paws still on his head, and it glows as it floats straight to him. Vinnie is so impressed. "Unbelievable! Russell, you've become telekinetic!"

The other pets get confused. "Huh?"

Sunil is happy to explain. "Russell has telekinesis. He has the ability to move things with the power of his mind."

Russell is confused. "Move things with—That's ridiculous! You can't move things with your mind."

His paws glow again. He puts them on his forehead and the pencil writes a little bit on the clipboard. This astonishes Russell. "Well, what do you know? I am telekinetic!"

Penny claps her front paws. "It's incredible!"

Vinnie is happy as well. "The meteorite gave him a superpower! Oh, maybe the meteorite gave us powers, too!"

Russell rolls his eyes. "Listen, Vinnie. I know you're excited about what I can do now, but I'm pretty sure this is just a coincidence."

Zoe nods her head. "I'm with Russell, Vinnie. It's probably been just one of those days where strange things happen."

Vinnie narrows his eyes. "Oh, yeah? Then why are your paws glowing?"

Zoe looks down and notices that her front paws are also glowing. She gasps in astonishment.

Russell is so amazed he accidentally drops the clipboard and pencil, and they're about to land on Zoe. Zoe is shocked, but suddenly, a shield appears above her! The clipboard and pencil bounce off the shield and land on the ground. Zoe's paws stop glowing and the shield disappears. The pets can't believe what they saw.

Pepper is the most amazed. "Woah! Let me see that again."

She doesn't notice her glowing paws, and when she tries to go to Zoe, in her place is a trail of light, leading all the way to the wall. The light disappears and Pepper stumbles nearby.

Minka rubs her eyes in disbelief. "Did you see that?!"

Penny nods. "Yeah. Pepper hit her head pretty hard."

Minka looks over at Penny. "No, Pepper was super-speedy!"

Pepper can't believe her ears. "I'm fast? Wow. That's amazing. Move over, Sonic!"

She tries to run again, but she crashes into the tree. The tree branch and tire falls down onto Vinnie, seemingly crushing him. The pets are shocked. Suddenly, they hear straining. Vinnie gets up on his legs, and he's holding the tire and branch all by himself in his two arms. "Hey, it's like it's as light as a feather!"

Vinnie gently places the branch near them. Russell uses his telekinetic powers to put the branch back on the tree and get some tape to stick it back on. "Incredible! Looks like Vinnie's gotten the power of super strength."

Vinnie jumps in happiness. "Wow. The meteorite did give us powers."

Russell hops down from the stack. "OK, Vinnie, we know that something gave us superpowers, but what?"

Penny thinks for a moment. "Well, the meteorite came from Earth, and you did think it might have properties that weren't from here."

Just then, her front paws start to glow. Moments later, she disappears. Zoe gasps in shock. "Where'd she go?"

Penny reappears, concerned. "What?"

Russell knows exactly what happened. "Penny Ling must have gotten the power of invisibility."

Vinnie turns to Sunil. "What superpower do you have, Sunil?"

Sunil shrugs. "I don't know. My paws haven't glowed yet. Maybe I didn't get a power."

Minka puts her hand on Sunil's shoulder. "It's OK, Sunil. I don't think I have a power either."

Just then, they notice Sunil's front paws glowing. All of Sunil glows, and he shots up into the air. He looks down in shock. "What's happening?"

Zoe looks up at Sunil. "I think you can fly now."

Sunil smiles and he swoops back down to the day camp center. He lands safely on his feet. "Perfect landing. This power is amazing."

Russell feels sorry for Minka. "Sorry you didn't get your powers, Minka."

Minka smiles. "It's OK, Russell."

Suddenly, her hands glow as well. Minka heads over to a canvas, places it on an easel and draws a picture of a butterfly, just using her hand – without any paint! It's also in great detail.

Vinnie gives Minka a thumbs up. "That's pretty good, Minka."

Suddenly, the butterfly leaps off the pages and flaps its wings. Minka squeals in delight. "I did get a superpower!"

Russell looks over at the meteorite. "All of us got superpowers and it's after the meteorite came into the room. Apparently if the meteorite is indoors and we're exposed to it long enough, we'll gain superpowers from it."

Pepper zips over to the meteorite. "We gotta show Blythe!"

Russell isn't so sure. "Not so fast, Pepper. If any human finds out about the meteorite, they might gain powers of their own and use it for evil. We gotta keep the meteorite and our powers a secret from Blythe and every pet and human at all costs. Who's with me?"

Vinnie scratches his chin. "Can we use our powers for good?"

Russell sighs. "OK, powers for good, but we must keep them secret."

All the pets nod in agreement. Russell smiles. "Thank you. But we gotta keep the meteorite in a power-proof box just in case anyone else enters the day camp."

Minka rushes over to the meteorite. "Way ahead of you Russell."

Her hands glow and she successfully creates a see-through box. Russell uses his telekinesis to lift the meteorite into the box, close the box, and then lift the box onto the shelf. "Perfect. That oughtta be out of reach."

Meanwhile, a man wearing black looks over at the dirt trail and the big pile of dirt that the pets dug at. He instantly gets nervous. "Ooh, Mr. Biskit's not going to be happy when he finds out."

A note from the Author

Hey, guys! Hope you enjoyed this. The rest of the story will have the Pets using their powers for big missions. I hope you enjoy those parts as well. This was inspired by one of my favorite fanfic stories: The Super Dogs of Dalmatian Street. Oh, and this is for the author of the story that inspired me: If you're reading this, I hope you enjoyed this. Your work meant a lot to me, and it's basically the reason I watch 101 Dalmatian Street. However, chapters 1 and 2 aren't on deviant art, yet some of the chapters are. I would love to read chapter 1 and 2 again, so please can you figure out a way to put them back on deviant art?

Thanks. You're awesome.
