It is a dark time for the wizarding world.
Following the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, the whole of wizardkind is now aware that, despite the persistent denials of the Ministry of Magic, and Minister Cornelius Fudge, the Dark Lord Voldermort has returned, bringing with him the threat of a new dark age.
Following a number of attacks against senior Ministry officials, Fudge is forced to resign after losing a vote of no confidence. Amos Diggory is persuaded to take charge of the Ministry as an interim measure.
In the midst of the resulting uncertainty, an inexplicable event takes place, resulting in meetings and friendships which will ensure that, for everyone involved, life will never be the same..…
'And I thought my days of being involved with anomalous events was over!' groaned Major Marion Price, former member of the Unified Intelligence Taskforce, as she eased herself off the grass covered ground where she had landed, and brushed herself down,
Looking around the moon lit scene before her, she quickly noted a small thatched roof stone hut, standing off to her left, with a densely packed forest a short distance behind it.
'Stop right there! Put your hands where we can see them, and turn around, slowly!' commended a female voice from behind Price's right shoulder.
'Someone needs a hug!' muttered Price, who slowly turned to the right, her hands reaching up to stop parallel to her ears.
When she completed her turn, Price found herself facing a quartet of teenagers, all of whom were dressed in jeans, T-shirts and trainers, and pointing what appeared to be wooden sticks at her. The girl in front had bushy red hair, and a stern look on her face. To her right stood a ginger haired boy, whose eyes shifted uneasily between Price and the girl. On the other side was a tall, dark haired boy with wire framed glasses and, behind him, a shorter ginger haired girl, both of whom looked on with anxious expressions. Reaching into the sky behind the four was the unmistakable silhouette of a castle.
'What's going on out here?' bellowed a voice from the direction of the stone hut.
Alone with the teens, Price turned her head towards the hut, as a bushy haired giant of a man, dressed in treated animal skins, marched towards them, with a loaded crossbow in his hands and a black Doberman dog at his side.
'I'm not entirely sure, Hagrid' remarked the dark haired boy. 'One minute I was in my bedroom at home, then suddenly there was a white light, and I found myself on the ground here with Ron, Ginny and Hermione.'
'And then we spotted her standing up' said the ginger haired boy, jerking his head towards Price. 'So we decided to check her. We were just about to ask who she was when you came out'
'Oh, I've got my military ID Card with me, if that's any help?' said Price.
'Alright' said the man called Hagrid. 'But no tricks!'
'Thank you' sighed Price, who reached into her battledress jacket and pulled out a leather look wallet, which she opened and held out at arm's length, just as the tip of the dark haired boy's stick started emitting a gentle glow.
'Major Marion Price, Royal Engineers?' read the ginger haired girl, before turning towards the others 'What does that mean, Hermione?'
The girl addressed as Hermione frowned. 'It means, Ginny, that our guest is a member of the muggle armed forces, specifically, the British Army.'
'Hang on.' said the darked haired boy, as he flicked what Price realised was his magic wand, to extinguish the glow from the tip. 'Since when have muggle armed forces been involved with anomalous events?'
'Harry's right!' exclaimed the ginger haired boy, pointing towards Price, who had placed her ID back inside her battledress jacket. 'When she stood up, she said something about being involved with them!'
'Exactly, Ron!' responded Harry. 'Almost as if she's experienced them before.'
'Not exactly, said Price, in an almost apologetic tone. 'I know about them, though! You see, until it's operations were officially suspended, I was part of a highly classified organisation known as the Unified Intelligence Taskforce – UNIT for short. Our job was to investigate and combat paranormal and extraterrestrial threats to Earth.'
'Extraterrestrial?' asked Hagrid.
'Anything not native to Earth, Hagrid' replied Hermione
'Blimey!' snorted Ron 'Haven't we got enough to worry about?'
'I presume you're referring to Voldemort, and his Death Eaters?' remarked Price.
'Just a minute' replied Harry. 'How do you know about Voldemort?'
Price was about to respond when the group's attention was drawn by a loud boom in the air above them. This was quickly followed by the sight of a strangely shaped object appearing high above, which crashed onto the clear patch of ground between them and the forest, sending them all toppling to the ground.
'I don't know about you lot,' sighed Price, as she and the others stood up and brushed themselves down, 'but I've got a bad feeling about this!'
