Donna Noble was in her element, not only was she travelling the galaxy with an alien who had become her best friend, she now had another human to share it with too. Showing Rhys around the TARDIS had been quite the experience, it was nice to be the knowledgeable one for once. Her fellow human had been the perfect tourist even with his family knowledge of the TARDIS he had listened to her explanations of things and asked questions.
Since first meeting the Doctor and her failed wedding Donna had felt sort of out of sync with the other humans around her, her eyes had been opened to the horrors of the universe and she couldn't forget them. She had changed and grown from her experience with Lance and the Empress of the Racnosse, but those around her had not, they didn't even know that such a monumental change had happened in Donna.
To most people she had flaked out on her wedding day and disappeared only to turn up at her reception and have a meltdown. The destruction at the hotel and Lance's disappearance weren't the easiest things to explain, but she had spun a tale that she had been kidnapped by people who were after Lance. That they had then attacked the reception and she had managed to escape again, the Doctor had helped her escape again, but hadn't been able to save Lance too. Surprisingly no-one really questioned it much, leaving her to grieve her partner and get over her ordeal. Even the official investigation into Lance's disappearance seemed open and shut, and Donna was sure that the Doctor had interfered somehow or someone had as her version of events was taken as truth and the matter settled rather quickly.
She had found it rather difficult connecting with her friends after that, knowing about the wider universe celebrity gossip seemed rather trivial. She did wonder if any of them were aliens though, but she knew that kind of theorising would have her friends and family thinking that she was mad. The only person she had seemed comfortable was her granddad, mainly because she knew he believed the world was bigger than it seemed.
Donna had thrown herself into investigating the odd goings on around her in the hopes of stumbling upon the Doctor once more. She had regretted not going with him when he offered, but they had both needed some time. She had needed to process all that had happened to her and figure out her place in the world as herself Donna Noble, the best temp in Chiswick and the Doctor had to heal from losing his friend. When the time was right they had met up again, and Donna would never regret joining him travelling.
Meeting Martha and UNIT and now Rhys and his family had shown her that she wasn't alone, she wasn't the only human out there in her timeline that knew all this stuff. She didn't have to be out of sync with everyone, she could surround herself with friends who knew about the wider universe. She hoped that she would be able to count Rhys among those people she would be able to trust, there was just something about him that drew her to him.
Donna was glad that the Doctor had given them some time for her to give Rhys a quick tour of the TARDIS before they were out the doors into the bustle of a 51st century market. Aware of the wider universe or not Donna had enjoyed giving Rhys a gentle introduction to the world she lived in. She knew that even though this was a fact finding and shopping trip that there was still every chance that they could be running from the moment they left the TARDIS.
Rhys seemed to be taking everything in his stride, so watching him pause and take in the sights as they stepped through the doors out onto a completely new planet was exhilarating in a way. She was still in awe of the things she saw everyday, but watching his enjoyment with his first new planet was infectious. She supposed that this must be what the Doctor felt like introducing his companions to new places.
As they stepped out into the heat of Boeshane Donna wondered if the heat would be too much for the Welshman, but he seemed unfazed by it. They split up when they reached the market, Donna and Rhys going off to take in the sights and do some shopping. The Doctor wandered off on his own, a plan of action in his head already about how to get the information he needed about Jack's family. They had arranged to meet back at the TARDIS later on before setting off in opposite directions into the market.
Donna had thought about offering to help the Doctor in his search, but she knew that she wouldn't know where to begin. If he needed help he would ask, in the mean time she would show her new friend round the market and hopefully make a plan for dinner.
