Chapter 1: Kaioshin
Two weeks had passed since the fall of Metallia. That apparition took much effort to defeat, and yet the sacred treasure of the Moon Kingdom had reset the world to its former glory. The cities that were covered in darkness, on the path to becoming ruins were restored into working skyscrapers and shops. Beasts from the biggest of dinosaurs to the smallest of insects were shaken of their own beastly impulses. The senshi and their allies of Earth's defenders returned to Tokyo and to their daily lives.
Among the senshi, only Sailor Moon retained her powers as a guardian. Usagi knew that Artemis and Luna were working on a way to return her four friends to their roles as fellow Sailor Soldiers. Part of her would like those four to live their lives as normal, teenage girls. After such events, a true return to normalcy may never come, for those that live through such times are never quite the same as before. At least the girl knew that she was not alone in carrying what could be an ongoing burden. The fact that she found a boyfriend that won the tentative approval of her father was a plus for young Miss Tsukino.
Speaking of said boyfriend, young Gohan was currently in the hallway of Juuban High. The young teen was looking at a notice on the school bulletin board after the last class of the day. The notice was a flyer that read "Tenkaichi Budokai" though that event tends to be called the World Martial Arts Tournament in many circles. Underneath that flyer was a notice that anyone who is eligible for the tournament was rewarded with two weeks off to train.
"Hmm, I guess having an old fighter like Mr. Honda as principal has it's benefits," said a voice over his shoulder.
Gohan turned around and saw that it was his classmate Videl Satan. The girl with pigtails in her hair smiled at her friend. The young teenage boy nodded at the girl as she went to his side. The girl then had a question that she had at that moment thought up on the fly.
"Why don't you enter Gohan?" Videl questioned.
"Umm...excuse me?" Gohan replied.
"C'mon Gohan you did say that you train in Martial Arts. Say isn't your father the last champion before my dad, Son Goku?" Videl questioned.
"Wait...how did you.." Gohan stammered.
"Gohan, you two have the same family name. Plus, you just confirmed it," Videl smiled.
"Damn it," Gohan cursed.
"See, sometimes you are too easy," Videl said.
"Well, it's mainly to do with my mom. She always wanted me to be more than a fighter. Why do you think I always do my homework and have the grades that I do?" Gohan countered.
"Hmm, makes sense. Still, the daughter of Satan Hercule vs. the son of Goku Son. Would have a nice ring to it," Videl pointed out.
Gohan had thoughts of how he would humiliate the girl in a fight. The young teen however considered Videl a good friend and truly did not want to fight her regardless of him having all of the advantages by a wide margin.
"I still don't know. I'm not a known fighter by any means," Gohan said.
"Forget it, then!" Videl shouted in disappointment.
Videl walked away from a stunned Gohan. The saiyan couldn't help but noticed that Videl was a little angry with him. There was not enough time to ponder why Ms. Satan was acting in such a manner, as the blond girl Erasa joined Gohan a moment later.
"I wouldn't worry too much about Videl. She's not used to hearing the word no, but she will come around," Erasa assured Gohan.
"I just think Gohan didn't want to get his ass kicked. Though in Videl's case, it might not be much of a humiliation to lose to her," chimed in Sharpner out of nowhere and on the other side of Gohan.
"Look...it's just that I don't fight unless I have to defend myself," Gohan said again.
"I wonder why you aren't fighting in the tournament Sharpner?" Erasa interjected.
This caused Sharpner to shut his mouth instantly. The blond, muscular teen tried to come up with excuses as to why he wouldn't enter a tournament meant for world-class fighters. Gohan was relieved that the pressure was off him and he didn't reveal anything about his true power and skill.
"Well…..I'm going to give it a few years is all..."Sharpner came up with.
Erasa rolled her eyes, while Gohan was nonplused. The teenage hero of earth never even thought about Sharpner entering the contest. Sure he knew that the blond haired boy does take conventional Karate and has often heard him brag about how good he is in class. In actuality, he didn't blame Sharpner for his answer and decided to say nothing on the issue.
The saiyan left the board and the school with his friends. Another pair of people approached the board and to say they didn't look human was putting it mildly. The taller of the two, with noticeably red skin, white hair, and clothing more fit for a religious buddhist temple than a high school, pulled down the notice. The strange man lowered his hand so that the shorter one with purple skin could take the notice and read it.
The two strangers nodded at each other and disappeared before any students could see them, or so they thought. One student however got a glimpse of what happened, but figured he had been studying too hard that day. Said student pushed up his glasses and walked off, wondering about his sanity.
Gohan was down the street and close to the shop when he noticed a familiar presence. The teen knew that Piccolo's ki was on the top roof and he had decided to head straight there. Him changing out of the school uniform of black could wait for a bit in his humble opinion. The boy greeted his mother and the staff briefly before going in the door and up the stairs to the roof.
Piccolo was on the roof, but he was not alone. Two cats were with him with a crescent moon on each forehead. Both Artemis and Luna made their way in front of the Namek and stood on all fours in front of Gohan. The saiyan squatted down and petted Luna on the head, who let out a small meow in response. Not wanting the white cat Artemis to feel left out, he petted him on the head afterwards.
"What brings you two with Piccolo? It can't just be a social call if all three of you are here," Gohan said before he stood back into a vertical position.
"You guessed correctly Gohan," Artemis pointed out.
"Actually it's kind of complicated. I'll let Piccolo explain," Luna said, to a small huff from Piccolo.
"Kid, I'm just going to say it. Luna and Artemis want me to train the girls, with your help. Minako, Makoto and Rei were all in from the first time I asked. Ami took a little convincing, but she's on board. There is one that I will need your help on. I know she has the most potential, but from what Luna tells me she's quite lazy and unmotivated. The three of us think that you could persuade her to train with us," Piccolo explained.
"Let me guess, the last girl is Usagi. Well to be fair, she did keep her powers while the others lost theirs," Gohan pointed out.
"Yes Gohan, but you know most of all that you have to keep training to keep yourself strong. Piccolo said that you found a way to improve yourself little by little all those years, despite only having that gravity chamber for such a short time," Luna pointed out.
"True, though the place I did reside was a pretty good natural obstacle course. At times I even had Piccolo magically increase the weight of my training clothes. I even had some weird contraption that I put on my hands and feet that Bulma invented for me to shadow box with. I hadn't used those since we moved to the city," Gohan replied.
"Before we get too off topic, can you do me a favor and persuade your girlfriend to train with us," Piccolo said.
"Piccolo, always to the point. Ok I'll try to convince her. I was going to go to her house anyway after homework," Gohan said.
"Ok it's settled. I wish you luck, Gohan," Artemis said.
Gohan went down the steps and into the Butcher Shop. The boy almost made it out the door when Android 18 called on him. The cyborg meat cutter handed a bag of ground beef and pork to the boy after he approached the counter.
"Deliver that to Fruits Parlor Crown, your mom said so," 18 all but commanded.
"Yes 18," Gohan said with a mock salute.
"Btw, you might want to change out of that school uniform first," 18 suggested.
The boy scratched the back of his head sheepishly and handed the meat to the butcher. Around 30 minutes later and the boy stepped back into the shop in white pants and a t-shirt with the company logo.
"Ready," Gohan said.
The android nodded and handed the delivery back to Gohan.
The saiyan nodded and headed outside. The boy clicked his capsule and out popped a motorized bike with a cooler compartment. After placing the meat in the little cooler, Gohan hopped on and drove out to the restaurant. The boy kind of liked it when he rode the motorcycle at times. The wind whipping through his face felt better to him. Granted, he'd rather just fly there to get that feeling, but his mother wanted a sense of normalcy.
The saiyan made his way to the parking lot and went up the stairs leading to store front. Looking over, a red headed waitress greeted him like always and Gohan waived back.
"Hey Gohan, glad you made it. Dad really was looking forward to that delivery," Unazuki said.
"Well I better not keep him waiting," Gohan said before catching a glance at a corner booth.
The delivery boy saw a very familiar girl with buns in her blonde hair and two long pigtails. Gohan smiled as he saw she was enjoying a parfait with her friends Naru and Umino. The boy left her alone for the moment and delivered the product to the owner of the establishment.
While the saiyan was in the kitchen area, Usagi was enjoying her parfait to the fullest. The girl decided to stop eating her dessert for a second to smile at her two friends. Naru couldn't help but smile back and the nerdy Umino couldn't help but be confused.
"So you and Umino are together, how sweet!" Usagi said in glee.
"Yes, Yesterday, he had the courage to ask me on a date. We are having our first date in a couple of days," Naru replied.
"Yay!" Usagi shouted.
Umino smiled at their interaction. The normally awkward boy had been feeling a surge of confidence lately, or so it seemed. The happiness of the situation went on as Gohan approached the table, much to the unawareness of the little group. Standing still, Gohan smiled at the small group as he stood but a few steps away.
"Usako," Gohan said.
Usagi froze for a second in utter surprise. The girl turned around and looked toward her boyfriend. Happiness was in her as this was a nice surprise, at least to her. Gohan approached Usagi's part of the booth and looked toward Naru and Umino.
"May I join you?" Gohan asked politely.
"Of course Gochan! It's ok isn't it," Usagi said the first to the boyfriend and the second part to the two friends.
Both nodded and Gohan sat beside his girlfriend. Usagi's friends were familiar with Gohan, but never actually had the chance to speak to him at length. The saiyan noticed the two friends were silent toward him. This silence was not out of anything bad he did, but more out of unfamiliarity.
"It seems you were celebrating something," Gohan said.
"Why Gochan, how did you guess," Usagi said coyly.
"Hmm, what is the occasion," Gohan asked.
"Well, Umino and Naru are a couple now," Usagi pointed out.
"Ahh, I guess that is a good reason to celebrate. I just hope you two are happy together," Gohan said.
"Why thank you, Gohan," Naru smiled.
"Yeah! I'm a happy man," Umino said with a goofy smile on his face.
The foursome spoke to each other about various things. Time had passed since the four of them seemed to be in their own little world. After a couple of hours, Gohan paid the tab and found a moment with his girlfriend outside of the Fruits Parlor Crown.
"Usako," Gohan said as he struggled to come up with the way to ask her a question. He felt that it would've been improper to ask while she was out with friends. The girl noticed his apprehension, something that he rarely had been around her, save the time he spend with her father.
"Gochan, what is it?" Usagi asked.
Gohan knew that he had to ask this question for Piccolo. The Namek had done much for the young saiyan and the saiyan knew that this was important. The saiyan gathered his courage and convinced himself that he was doing the right thing.
"Usako, Piccolo wants to know if you would train with him and the girls?" Gohan asked.
Usagi froze. Her mind mulled over the choice put in front of her. On the one hand, she did really like to read manga, watch TV and liked to be lazy much of the time. On the other hand, she was thinking about how such a thing would bring her even closer to her 'Gochan' as she always called him.
The girl knew that once she had become Sailor Moon that it would be increasingly harder for her to have a normal life.
"You know Gochan, Luna asked me the same question. I told her that I would think about it. After all, I know your training is really, really hard. I'm scared Gochan...I'm scared that I won't measure up," Usagi said as tears fell down her face.
"Usako...you are one of the strongest people that I know. You handled my power and were able to use it with your own to defeat Metallia," Gohan said.
Gohan then held both of her hands and smiled at her. It seems that ever since him and Usagi came together, he had become more sure of himself after all.
"I don't want to pressure you to train. However, with the arrival of the Dark Kingdom, it told me one thing. Evil always exists. As long as you and I are here, it will not succeed. If you want to train, then go for it. Otherwise I will be here for you, my Usako," Gohan stated.
Usagi smiled at Gohan as she felt his energy and confidence in her. To her, that moment helped her make her mind up almost instantly. The girl looked into the almost black eyes of her saiyan boyfriend and gave a nod.
"Yes Gochan, I will train," Usagi smiled.
Gohan dried the tears from her eyes and pulled her into a hug. Usagi leaned into her man's chest and smiled as she looked forward to her new adventure. Who knows, such training might come in handy for the young girl one day.
The strange beings that were at the high school bulletin board were walking down the street. Both seemed not to have a care of the looks that other people had when they saw the odd colored people. One kid looked excited while the adult that was with said child looked horrified. A morbidly obese character stood with his mouth wide open as his ice cream fell out of his hand. Several people took cell phones out and took pictures of the strangers with their camera as they walked past. One man huddled away from the scene and dialed his phone frantically.
Such reactions the two seemed to be oblivious to as the red faced one held the flyer in his hand. The purple skinned companion was looking at a crystal ball like device, as if it were giving him directions. The two stopped at an intersection, and the red faced one began to notice the various stares, at least those that chose not to ignore the two, and was beginning to feel a little hot under the collar.
"Master Kaioshin, I do believe our presence is disturbing these mortals," the red face said as quietly as possible.
"Well Kibito, most mortals have never seen a Kaio, much less a Kaioshin before," Kaioshin replied to his taller attendant.
"Why must mortals be so…..primitive?" Kibito retorted.
"Who knows, they may be slow learners, but they do learn," Kaioshin said as the crystal ball glowed green, and the two of them could see the butcher shop from a couple of blocks away.
"It seems we are close to our destination master," Kibito said.
"So it is then," Kaioshin said.
The duo walked onto the street. After only two steps, a speeding car barreled toward them. Out of the corner of his eye, Kaioshin saw the speeding car as it was on a collision course with his person. As it got within a car length, the otherworldly being glared at the car and his eyes began to glow white. The vehicle was stopped instantly and the engine all of the sudden shut off. The man couldn't help but stare with a slack jaw as he saw the two of them. The man then did something that one would say was a truly stupid move. Took out a baseball bat from the back seat and charged at the two. Before the bat could make contact with the being's skull however, the Kaioshin simply grabbed the bat and splintered it into many pieces with a quick squeeze.
The man fell on his buttocks out of fear. The figure scooted backwards a few feet before making it to his feet and ran from the scene. Kibito seemed to want to pursue, but a hand from Kaioshin and him shaking his head no halted the attendants advance.
"He could never harm me anyway," Kaioshin said.
With that, the duo from Other World moved toward their destination. The awkward stares still were there, but both didn't really care. Mortals were of no threat, or at least these weren't, to them.
Gohan had entered the shop and saw that several customers were getting their orders. The saiyan let the group handle the business part of the meat store and ran upstairs. The young man then went into his school bag and pulled out his books as he went into his homework. He was able to basically fly through what to most people would consider complex problems and was close enough to finish.
A commotion could be heard downstairs. The muffled voice of Chi-chi could be heard and anyone within earshot would know that she was not pleased. Even through the wall, which muffled the voice somewhat, Gohan could hear the disdain in her voice. Curious to this event, he closed his book and walked downstairs to see what the commotion was about.
"He's only six! You are not taking my son!" shouted Chi-chi with newfound clarity for Gohan.
Gohan opened the door, only to see his brother Goten standing in front of it. Over the small child, the older saiyan hybrid saw the Kaioshin and his attendant. Gohan was not familiar with those two beings at all by that point, though the two of them turned their attention to the two boys when the older one stood behind young Goten.
"Hello you two! Are you listening!" screamed Chi-chi.
"Why would we listen to you?" Kibito asked in a condescending manner.
"I appreciate it if you didn't talk to my mom that way!" Gohan spoke to the man, much to the taller red-skinned man's chagrin. The entire room turned their attention to the teenage saiyan, who glared at the two Other-Worldly beings.
"And who are you?" the attendant spoke in the same condescending manner.
"I'm Gohan Son," Gohan said as he glared at Kibito.
"Really, I thought the smaller one was Gohan Son," the smaller Kaioshin interjected with a much more calm inflection than his attendant.
"I'm Goten Son," the little boy introduced.
Both Kibito and Kaioshin looked at each other for a moment. The two of them nodded at each other and looked toward Gohan. The Kaioshin stepped forward and looked at the teenager.
"Gohan, I am sorry we caused such a disruption," Kaioshin apologized.
"Master, you shouldn't apologize to this..." Kibito interjected before Kaioshin stopped him.
"On the contrary, we have caused offense it seems. We have a lot to learn ourselves Kibito," Kaioshin pointed out.
"Apology accepted," Gohan said, not one to hold onto a grudge for too long.
"Say Gohan, may we go somewhere and talk in private," Kaioshin requested.
"Sure," Gohan said, as he sensed that those two were not evil people.
Chi-chi attempted to interject. Gohan gave Chi-chi a look, which stopped the mom dead in her tracks. After basically telling her in a respectful way that he knew what he was doing, the mother sighed. To her it seems, it was just another thing in the long history of weirdness that was her life after she married Goku. Kibito, Kaioshin and Gohan went upstairs and toward the rooftop. After a moment, the shop went back to normal with their production and their business.
Kaioshin, Gohan and Kibito were at the top of the roof. The three of them looked like there was still some tension in the air. Kibito was particularly tense towards Gohan, as he saw that he should've at least bowed to his master. However, such protocol didn't seem that important to the shorter authority figure, and the reason why would become clear.
"Gohan, I heard that you are quite the fighter," Kaioshin said to stop the tension.
"Who told you this?" Gohan asked with a tone of slight surprise.
"Your father in Other World. Yes Gohan, we spoke to your father Goku. He told a tale on how strong you are and how recently you and someone named "Sailor Moon," defeated a being of powerful, Dark Magic," Kaioshin answered.
"You seem well informed Kaioshin," Gohan said in earnest compliment.
"That's because his authority is over the entire universe young Gohan. It would be wise to remember it," Kibito interjected with his usual mirth toward the half-saiyan.
Gohan glared at the attendant, for he felt that the red-faced man didn't like him very much. Kibito faced him and returned the glare. Kaioshin saw that those two wanted to fight each other, but at this time felt that those two shouldn't battle as he had something important and couldn't afford to have either one of them beat up to the point of not being able to perform the task.
"Kibito, Gohan, perhaps you two could settle your issue at the Tenkaichi Budokai. Right now though, I need Gohan to listen especially," Kaioshin said to the two.
Gohan and Kibito turned their attention to the deity, neither wanting to upset him. Gohan nodded toward the being, who smiled a bit in return. Kaioshin cleared his throat as he went into his explanation.
"Gohan Son, we have a situation. On this planet is a wizard named Babidi. He is after a being known as Majin Buu, who is sealed and on this planet. We could try to find him ourselves, but he was able to use his magic to conceal his presence," Kaioshin explained.
"Hmm...and what does this have to do with the Tenkaichi Budokai?" Gohan asked.
"Well young Gohan, to break the seal Babidi would need a lot of energy. This Budokai, or the World Martial Arts Tournament as it is sometimes called, is supposed to bring the strongest fighters on this planet. At least that was my understanding," Kaioshin said.
"Not anymore, a man by the name of Mr. Satan took the tournament," Gohan replied.
"That's a shame. If someone of your caliber would enter the contest, it should bring the wizard out of hiding. I'm sure your friends would want to attend. Goku told me about some of them and their strength. The more strong fighters there are, the more Babidi won't be able to resist," Kaioshin told the young Saiyan.
Gohan gave what the god said a bit of thought. On the one hand, he could stop a threat before it truly began. On the other hand, it could be catastrophic if the creature was as powerful as he figured it might be.
"I'll enter the tournament. Besides, mom would like the prize money," Gohan answered.
"Excellent!" exclaimed Kaioshin.
"Ah I knew you would Gohan!" said a voice in the head of the both of them and Kibito.
"Dad!" Gohan said in surprise.
The voice belonged to none other than Goku. A warrior that had been dead for several years, but still watches over the Earth from time to time.
"Yep Gohan! It's me! I hope yer still keepin' up yer trainin'" Goku quipped.
"You know it!" Gohan replied.
"Good 'cause I got me a day pass from Baba. I ain't gonna miss a chance to fight ya and see for myself how far ya come. I'm enterin' the tournament," Goku said.
"Alright!" Gohan exclaimed.
"Sounds like good news!" Kaioshin added.
Kibito chose to remain silent. Truth be told he didn't have an opinion one way or the other about the father of Gohan. The attendant had made his point several times about how mortals should respect his master, and he felt that he would be just repeating himself over and over.
The two left Gohan there after saying their good-byes. The young teen saiyan had much to look forward to as the tournament wouldn't be for another two weeks. Telling the others that Goku would arrive he could do later on in the day when business was finished at the butcher shop. One thing became certain. Though it was only for one day, his father would be among the world of the living. Gohan would look forward to that more than most anything.
Today was a good day indeed to be Gohan Son.
A/N: It took a few months for me to make this chapter. Real life events and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are to blame for that. Plus I thought I would let the first story stay for a while before going to this one.
Please Read, Review, Follow and Favorite. I do appreciate everyone that read the first story and wanted to continue with this one.
