Episode 2: Sons of Trigon- Part I
Logan Residence: 8:45am. The family is eating breakfast, but Murdoc is still lost in thought about the visions that he saw the other day.
Lilith:
Mudo, could you pass the maple syrup please? (Murdoc doesn't respond) Mudo? Mudo!
Murdoc:
Huh? Oh, yeah, here you go? (Hands Lilith the syrup)
Garfield:
Something on your mind, Murdoc?
Murdoc:
No, dad, just didn't get much sleep last night.
Garfield:
Nightmare, or something else you shouldn't discuss at meal time?
Murdoc:
Just a nightmare. Nothing too important.
Paine:
About what?
Murdoc:
It's stupid, just me getting chased by a clown with a chainsaw.
Paine:
Or an ice-cream truck fitted with explosives.
Lilith:
Is that what your nightmares are about, sis?
Paine:
I don't get nightmares.
Lilith:
Oh I see, you dream about him.
Paine:
(Blushes hard) Shut up!
Raven:
Lilith, don't pester your sister.
Lilith:
Sure mama.
She returns to eating. Raven shifts her attention to Murdoc. She continues to look at him with worry.
Raven:
Are you sure everything's alright?
Murdoc:
Yes mom, I promise I'm fine. What happened yesterday, I've moved on from it.
Raven:
Very well then.
The family continues eating their breakfast.
In the underworld: The three figures from earlier are watching them.
Wrath:
The family is close, but there is some conflict among the offspring.
Envy:
Did you see the way the elder sister snapped at the younger one?
Lust:
She likes someone.
Wrath:
It's clear that our sisters' conflicts with us have been passed down through her genes. Isn't anger a delicious cycle?
Envy:
When the boy is vulnerable, that's when we strike. We'll all just have to bide our time and keep watching them until then.
Lust:
My dear brothers, you're biding your time. What more do you want? Our sister's the same as ever, her mate is a fool, her oldest is a mood and her youngest is a so full of life. Our target is her only son and if we continue biding our time, she will spot us.
Wrath:
You'll just have to trust us, Lust.
Lust:
Trust? What do you think that clown we have in the mortal realm is going to do?
Wrath:
Patience Lust. Your lust for chaos will soon be realised.
Wrath chuckled.
Lust:
Oh! Ha Ha! I'm in stitches. And I don't mean the literal stitches on my stomach.
At the Logan Residence, breakfast is over. Garfield and Raven are cleaning up the kitchen.
Raven:
I'm not entirely convinced Murdoc is okay, Gar.
She telekinetically opens the fridge and puts the juice cartons inside.
Garfield:
Something's telling me that whatever nightmare he had last night it wasn't about a clown with a chainsaw.
Raven takes a breath.
Raven:
Gar, gather the other Titans. I have to come clean about something.
Garfield:
Any specific place where you want us to meet up at?
Raven:
Here is fine. Go find them and I'll straighten up for their arrival.
Garfield:
Sure babe.
He kisses her cheek before leaving to get in touch with the other Titans.
Bludhaven; the same time. In the city plaza, Nightwing and Starfire were locked in battle with the now-mutated Blockbuster.
Blockbuster:
Nightwing! Talon was mine to kill! Now I'm going to kill you!
Nightwing:
All that electrum couldn't have been good for you.
Starfire:
Fill me in, sweetie, what's going on here?
Nightwing:
Apparently Slade hired Blockbuster before Talia killed him, and during the final battle against the Court of Owls Talon pushed Blockbuster into a pool of electrum, turning him into the monstrosity you see right now.
Blockbuster lifts up a car and throws it at Nightwing, who evades it.
Starfire:
I see.
Nightwing:
(Looks over at Starfire) I don't know how we're going to take him down. Electrum is known for giving its user fast healing and a long lifespan. How else do you think Talon stayed alive for so long? (Looks back at Blockbuster) But unlike Talon who stored his electrum in a tooth, Blockbuster has his electrum all over his body. He has no concrete weak point.
Blockbuster:
Too bad for you and your model.
He runs at the couple in an attempt to 'clothesline' them before dodging out of the way. Starfire fired starbolts at him, but they seemed to do nothing.
Blockbuster:
Stupid woman.
Starfire:
Who are you calling stupid?
Nightwing;
Uh oh, she's mad now.
She flies at him and hits Blockbuster so hard he goes flying into a wall.
Blockbuster:
(Gets up with barely a scratch) You think that hurts me?
Nightwing:
This will.
Nightwing moves in and throws explosive discs at Blockbuster; two on his chest, and one on his face. They explode, covering him in a plastic-like substance, which explodes again.
Nightwing:
Plastique.
When the smoke clears, Blockbuster is still standing.
Nightwing:
Impossible!
Blockbuster:
Gotta try harder, bird boy!
Nightwing:
Starfire, get me onto his shoulders.
Starfire grabs Nightwing, and flies with him in her arms as they manoeuvre around Blockbuster. She gets close and throws Nightwing, who lands on Blockbuster's shoulders. Blockbuster tries to shake him off, but Nightwing holds on for dear life. He jams his sticks into both sides of his neck, and activates electricity mode. Blockbuster yells in pain as he struggles to reach behind him to grab Nightwing. He succeeds, and throws Nightwing through the air and he goes tumbling across the ground.
Starfire:
Nightwing!
She tries to fly over to him, but Blockbuster grabs her and holds her above his head.
Nightwing:
(Gets up and sees the situation his wife is in) Starfire!
Nightwing tries to run up to Blockbuster to save Starfire, but seeing this makes Blockbuster change the way he's currently holding Starfire. In his right hand he has her legs, and in his left, her head.
Blockbuster:
Take one more step and I rip her in two!
Nightwing doesn't move; his communicator sounds. He checks it to see Garfield's face.
Nightwing:
Not a good time Gar.
Garfield:
Well, whatever it is you and Starfire are doing, can you come to our house when you're done. There's something Raven has to tell you guys.
Nightwing moves his communicator screen to show Starfire and Blockbuster.
Garfield:
Whoa! Is that that muscly guy who appeared during the attack on Wayne Manor? He looks...different.
Nightwing:
Yeah, electrum's a bitch.
Garfield:
Need any help?
Nightwing:
We can handle it.
Garfield:
Doesn't look like it from this end.
Nightwing:
Just trust me!
Garfield:
Okay, you're the boss.
He disconnects. Nightwing picks up one of his sticks, activates the electricity and throws it at Blockbuster. It hits Blockbuster in the face and he drops Starfire, allowing her to fly to Nightwing's side and hug him as a thanks for saving her.
Starfire:
Thank you, Nightwing (Kisses his cheek)
Nightwing:
Don't thank me yet.
Starfire throws him his stick as she prepares her staff and get ready for another clash with Blockbuster.
Steel City; the same time. Cyborg and Karen were at the city stadium, watching a baseball game while eating popcorn. One of the players hits a home run and it flies into the audience for Cyborg to catch it. An alarm blares through the stands.
Commentator:
And that's half-time. Currently the Gotham Knights lead with 45, and the Star City Rockets at 39.
Cyborg:
For you, honey.
He gives her the ball.
Karen:
Thanks, sweetie.
Before they could kiss, Cyborg's communicator goes off. He looks to see Garfield on the other end.
Garfield:
Cy, Bee; I know you're enjoying a game, but Raven has an announcement.
Cyborg:
Gar, I spent good money on these tickets; we're not giving up our seats.
Garfield:
I'll make it up to you two somehow, just get over here as fast as you can.
He disconnects.
Cyborg:
It's only half-time. Maybe we can.
Karen:
Hope this meeting doesn't last that long.
Cyborg:
If we don't get back in time to see the end of the game, he'll be sorry.
Karen:
Count me in on that action.
The two of them get up from their seats and leave the stadium to see what's going on.
Cyborg:
At least I brought you back a souvenir.
Karen smiles at her husband.
Logan Residence; later. Almost all the former Teen Titans were gathered in the living room; Cyborg, Karen, Garth and Terra were sitting on the sofa, Roy was sitting on an armchair; everyone else was standing. Wally looks over at Dick and Starfire to see that they look rather beat up.
Wally:
What happened to you two?
Dick:
We won't bore you with the details, but Blockbuster has gone crazy.
Wally:
That psychopath is still alive?
Dick:
Blame the electrum.
Garth:
By the way Dick, how was it using my old disguise for your infiltration mission?
Dick:
Can't say I liked it very much. It was rather tight in the groin region.
Garth:
Same.
Raven and Garfield enter the living room.
Garfield:
Thank you all for coming.
Cyborg:
Whatever it is, let's make it quick. Halftime won't last forever, you know.
Terra:
Yeah, what do you guys have to tell us?
Wally:
Don't tell me, you're getting divorced.
Jinx elbows him in the stomach.
Wally:
Or your son and our daughter did the deed. (Mood darkens) And he got our little girl pregnant!
Jinx:
Just stop talking.
Raven:
Nothing like that. What I have to tell you is more information in regards to my family.
Terra:
Your father's returning? But you turned him to dust.
Raven:
This isn't about my father. I have...other members in my family.
Everyone's attention sharpens after hearing this.
Garfield:
Other family, Rae? You mean like brothers and sisters?
Raven:
Yes. Three brothers; Wrath, Lust, and Envy.
Cyborg:
This is news to me.
Roy:
You don't think these guys pose an immediate threat, do you?
Raven:
Out of all of Trigon's offspring, I was the only girl and the one who had a mother and a natural birth; my brothers were conceived through supernatural arts. Any powers that Trigon had they have too, and then some.
Dick:
So they're just as dangerous.
Raven nods.
Raven:
I can't be too sure, but I think Murdoc had dreams about them. He went into my special room before he left for Damian's party and he hasn't been the same since.
Dick:
And you think your brothers have something to do with it?
Raven:
It's highly likely.
Jinx:
So, what are we going to do now?
Raven:
There's not much we really can do right now, Jenny.
Jinx:
So we're just going to sit around until they manifest themselves or when Murdoc has another vision?
Wally:
Yeah, can't we just go into the Underworld and give your brothers the old one-two?
Jinx:
Something's telling me that it's not that simple, babe.
Dick:
Suppose it wouldn't hurt to visit the abandoned library.
Garth:
Dick, now isn't the time to be perusing books. We need real solutions here!
Raven:
No Garth, he's referring to the library where I first released Trigon all those years ago.
Starfire, Cyborg and Changeling's moods darken as they look down at the floor, remembering that day Raven created a barrier as she released Trigon and transferred her powers to the Titans and transforming the planet into a hellish wasteland.
Starfire:
That day was truly horrifying; I'll never forget seeing everyone else petrified.
Garfield:
Yeah, babe, are you sure opening the portal to the Underworld again is a good idea? I mean, what if we end up petrifying everyone again? What if something happens to the kids?
Raven:
They should be fine, I hope.
Starfire:
When I told you about my sister and then my brother, did you ever think to tell us about your little brothers?
Raven:
They're evil beyond redemption.
Jinx:
You mean we're gonna have to kill them?
Raven nods.
Dick:
Well, seeing as we're left with no other choice, Titans...go!...God I miss being able to say that.
Jump City: later. The group (having changed into their uniforms) arrive at the abandoned library, only now it was surrounded by yellow construction tape. A large sign read "Marked for Demolition by the Jump City Council".
Flash:
Great, now what?
Starfire:
A little tape never stopped us before.
Starfire fires some starbolts at the tape and opens a way for them.
Changeling:
So the city council are finally deciding to knock it down.
Raven:
Good thing to. The less I have to remind myself of this place the better. (Sighs) I'll be honest, I really didn't want to come back here.
Arsenal:
Well, we're here now. The quicker we finish, the sooner you can stop remembering that horrible day.
He moves closer to the front door; a red S glows above the door.
Bumblebee:
So, we're really doing this?
Cyborg:
Unfortunately, we don't have much of a choice.
Raven:
The mark of Skath is still active. Hope you're all ready.
Nightwing (Twirling his sticks in his hands):
We've dealt with the supernatural before; we can do this.
Flash:
Let's kick some demon tail!
Raven:
Alright. Stay close everyone.
She opens the door and they enter. The library looked no different from their last visit; crumbly, dusty books lining shelves, the balcony looking as though its about to collapse.
Bumblebee:
How can these books still be in good condition?
Jinx:
Magic.
Cyborg:
Nothing has changed here.
Starfire:
It's been a long time since we've been here.
Terra:
Does Raven even remember how she opened up the portal in the first place?
Raven:
That day, my body was covered in tattoos that glowed when my destiny came. It's not a moment I want to relive. But like Cyborg said, I didn't have much of a choice.
With a deep breath, Raven walks to the middle of the room.
Raven:
Stand back, everyone.
She kneels down on the floor.
Raven:
Azarath Metrion Zinthos.
The gem on her head glows, as does the space in front of her. A cavern opens up.
Terra:
So, who wants to go in first?
Flash:
(Takes a few steps back, clearly scared) Ladies first.
Terra shoves him into the cavern.
Arsenal:
It looks pretty dark down there. I don't suppose anyone brought a light?
Starfire lights up her hand and jumps down. Changeling turns into a puma and jumps down. One by one all of the former Titans jump down the hole and into the cavern when they see Flash get up from when Terra pushed him in.
Flash:
Next time you're going to push me down a deep hole, can you do me a favour and have the common courtesy to warn me?
Terra:
Now where's the fun in that?
Starfire:
(Leading the way with her light) Come along, friends.
They continue through the cavern.
Flash:
First thing that startles me and I'm out. And I don't care who I'm taking with me because if I go on my own, I'm dead.
Arsenal:
Boo.
Flash:
Ah! (Sees Arsenal) You're an ass.
Bludhaven; the same time. Mar'i, Damian, Paine and Titus were at a coffee shop. All three were drinking coffee, and Mar'i was eating a muffin. Titus was drinking from a water bowl.
Paine:
I see you and Titus have become fast friends, Damian.
Damian:
Yeah; though it's a bit of a hassle when he wakes me up to go outside to do business.
Paine:
You mean Ace didn't do that?
Damian:
Ace was my dad's dog. Taking him to the bathroom was usually his job.
Mar'i:
Now you have one of your own, (Turns to Paine) Have you thought of having your own pet?
Damian:
Your codename is 'Emerald Witch'. I could see you with a black cat on your shoulder.
Paine:
Dad and Lilith can turn into any animal: why settle for one pet when you can have all the pets for free?
Damian:
I guess you make a good point.
A girl walks over to them.
Girl (To Damian):
Hey, my friend over there thinks you're cute.
Damian looks at the girl and giggles and waves at him.
Damian:
I'm terribly sorry, but can you tell your friend that I'm taken?
Mar'i:
By me! (Kisses his cheek causing Damian to blush)
Disappointed, the girl and her friend walk away. Damian feels bad for crushing their spirits.
Damian:
If it means anything, you two seem like nice girls, and I'm sure any guy would be lucky to have you.
The girls don't hear him. Damian sips his coffee.
Mar'i:
(Hugs him) My Damian, never wanting to see anyone get hurt.
Damian:
Yeah, after the way I hurt you all by joining the League of Assassins, I feel awful if I accidentally hurt someone, even just a little.
Paine:
Hurting and being hurt is just a part of life, Damian. Don't dwell on it too much.
Damian:
You're right; dwelling on the past never does any good. I can only learn from my mistakes and strive to do better.
Mar'i:
That's the spirit.
Paine:
Anyway, has Murdoc talked to either of you lately?
Damian:
No, why?
Paine:
He's just been acting strange lately and I wanted to know if he said something to you guys.
Mar'i:
No. He never spoke to either of us at the party.
Damian:
Do you think he and Kacey are having relationship difficulties?
Paine:
He doesn't say, but I have noticed his band hasn't made any new songs recently.
Damian:
So you think he's got a case of writer's block?
Paine:
It happens to the best of us. My mom writes books for a living, and she must go through writer's block on a monthly basis.
Damian:
Murdoc's problem isn't helping things.
Mar'i:
I'm sure he'll get over it soon so he can get back out there and help us kick butt.
She finishes her coffee and muffin.
Mar'i:
You guys ready to gear up and patrol the city?
Damian:
After we drop of Titus, of course.
Titus gives him a look that says "I want to stay with you".
Damian:
Sorry little buddy, but I can't have you getting hurt. We'll play as soon as I come home, I promise.
Titus barks with glee as he licks his face. Mar'i giggles at the interaction.
Paine:
Come on you two, let's get to work.
Mar'i, Damian, and Titus follow Paine to the counter where they give the cashier proper payment before leaving the coffee shop so they can do their duties as Teen Titans. Paine receives a notification on her phone; she opens it and her face turns red.
Mar'i:
Who's that, Paine?
Paine quickly closes her phone and puts it in her pocket.
Paine:
Nothing!
Mar'i raises her eyebrows.
Paine:
Look I'll meet you two at the Jump City tower in a few.
Damian:
Alright.
Damian and Mar'i go in a different direction as Paine takes her phone back out to look at the picture of a shirtless teenage boy around Damian's age with blonde hair; Balduin, causing her to swoon.
Paine:
Hope to see you again.
She kisses her phone screen before heading off.
Mar'i:
Be honest, it was Alfred who took care of Ace more?
Damian:
Dad was too busy with other things.
Mar'i:
Like my father. It's Mom who takes care of Silkie more.
Damian:
Makes sense. Speaking of which, where is she?
Mar'i:
A library. Apparently she wants to do some reading.
At the library, the group had been following Raven through the caverns, specifically through doors marked with the Mark of Skath, before eventually coming to a large room which Raven knew all too well.
Bumblebee:
What's in here?
Raven:
Horrible memories.
Terra:
Was this the exact place where you summoned your father?
Raven nods.
Nightwing:
Well, this is the only way we have to get into the Underworld.
Changeling:
(Looks over at Raven) We don't have to do this if you don't want to, babe.
Raven:
I really don't want to, but for the sake of putting our minds at ease about my brothers and about Murdoc, I have to.
Changeling:
I understand, Rae. Just, please, be careful.
Raven:
I will.
The two of them share a kiss before Raven steps forward. She kneels, closes her eyes and opens a portal, glowing red.
Raven:
I don't know how long I can keep this portal open.
Nightwing:
Then we'd better make this quick. Titans, let's go!
One by one, the Titans enter the portal.
Flash:
Why am I the last one to go?
Raven:
Shut up and hurry!
Flash:
Yes Rae.
He sprints through the portal.
Logan Residence - Murdoc is seen sitting on his bed and playing his guitar, attempting to come up with a new song idea. Murdoc plays a few notes but comes up with nothing.
Murdoc:
Come on, brain, think of something, anything.
The door opens; Lilith comes in.
Murdoc:
What do you want?
Lilith:
I just wanted to come and check on you. You behaved rather...differently at breakfast this morning.
Murdoc:
Don't worry about me, Lil, I'm fine.
Lilith:
You're making a new song. Can I hear it?
Murdoc:
I'd love to play it for you if I could figure out how it should go.
Lilith:
Sounding too similar to your other songs?
Murdoc:
For the most part. I don't know what I can do to make this new song different from the other ones I've made. I can't believe I'm asking this, but do you have any ideas?
Lilith:
Otherwise you just have to sing Tot Musica, it's quite trashy.
Murdoc:
Bart put that on one time; it drove me crazy.
Lilith:
(Thinking) How about a song about what's going through your mind?
Murdoc:
Hmm, that's actually not that bad of an idea. I'm surprised.
Lilith:
Just trying to get you out of your funk.
Murdoc:
Well your idea certainly helps.
Lilith:
Why? Are you sure nothing's bothering you, brother?
Murdoc:
I'm sure.
Lilith:
(Nods) Okay. I'm glad I could help you, Mudo. Take it easy, alright.
Murdoc:
See you later, Lil.
Lilith leaves Murdoc's room. Murdoc puts his guitar away and lies on his bed, thinking.
Murdoc:
Those visions...what could they mean? (He ponders for a moment) Probably nothing.
He closes his eyes and begins to take a nap.
Meanwhile, the former Teen Titans arrive in a hellish, rocky landscape of fire and lava. Save for Starfire, everyone is looking rather sweaty.
Flash:
This place is creepy, but not like Bart's internet history.
Jinx smacks him in the back of the head.
Tempest:
(Panting) I don't suppose anyone bought any bottles of water?
Terra:
Hopefully we won't be down here for too long.
Arsenal:
Which way do we go now?
Raven closes her eyes.
Raven:
Left.
The Titans go down the leftmost path as Raven continues to give directions to the group. As they walk, ghostly figures float around them, some of them deceased villains and former foes; the first of whom being Joker. Terra lets out a yelp and jumps into her husbands arms. The next three ghosts are Slade, Talia, and Talon; They are drawn to Nightwing. He swings at them and they go away after a while.
Starfire:
They're just ghosts, everyone. Don't let them get to you.
Nightwing:
Deadman would be enjoying this.
Changeling:
How much farther, Rae?
Raven:
Not too far.
Cyborg:
Get ready for a fight, everyone.
Flash:
I've been ready since we got here.
Nightwing:
Is that why you were so scared to go in the cave earlier?
Flash:
No.
Nightwing:
Don't hide it.
Jinx:
And don't even think about trying to run away when we get there.
Flash:
When have I ever run away from a fight?
Raven:
This is it, everyone, we're here.
They stop outside a cavern; the entrance was blocked by hellfire.
Tempest:
If only there was some water around here so I can douse these flames.
Nightwing:
(Turns to face Changeling) I don't suppose you can fly into a big bird and fly us over this fire wall?
Changeling:
You want me to turn into a phoenix? Sorry I don't do mythical animals.
Terra:
(Thinks for a second) There's plenty of rocks and dirt around here. Maybe I can use them to bury the flames somehow?
Changeling:
It's worth a shot.
Terra breaks off some stalactites nearby and drops them on top of the fire; the fire only grows taller.
Terra:
Alright, anybody else have any bright ideas?
Bumblebee:
Tempest, use your sweat.
Tempest:
You're joking right?
Cyborg:
We're desperate here, man. Anything is worth a try.
Tempest:
Well, here goes nothing.
Tempest begins manipulating the sweat off his body (Raven is disgusted by the large quantity of it), turning it into a sweat bomb and dropping it onto the hellfire. Instead if extinguishing the flames, the sweat just evaporates.
Jinx:
Those are some hot flames.
Arsenal:
Alright, so what's the next plan?
Tempest:
(Turns to Terra) I don't suppose you can use your earth powers to make a tunnel so we can go under these flames, can you?
Terra:
And accidentally walk us into a pool of lava?
Flash:
I don't know about you all, but I'm out of ideas.
Nightwing:
Raven, lend us your powers like last time. It will protect us.
Changeling:
But it will hurt!
Jinx:
I don't know if mixing my powers with Raven's is such a good idea.
Deeper in the cavern:
Wrath:
Our sister is here.
At the entrance, the hellfire parts.
Changeling:
Guys, look, the fire!
Everyone watches as the fire parts and then disappears.
Jinx:
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Raven's brothers put that firewall there just to mess with us.
Nightwing:
Just be wary. This all feels too easy.
Changeling:
One does not simply walk into a hellish cavern populated by demons.
Nightwing:
Exactly. Keep your guard up, everyone, and be prepared to attack on a moment's notice.
Raven takes the lead as the group follow her, single file.
Cyborg:
(Looking at his communicator) No reception; we're gonna miss the rest of the game.
Changeling:
Like I said, I'll find a way to make it up to you guys. But for right now, we have to focus.
Cyborg activates his two sonic cannons.
Cyborg:
I'm ready.
Logan Residence: the same time. Paine arrives home and goes to her room to change into her Emerald Witch uniform. Before she enters, she stops outside Murdoc's room and looks inside to see him asleep. She hears him murmuring with fear as he sleeps.
Murdoc:
Urk...no...no...it can't be...
Paine:
Uh, Murdoc?
Murdoc unconsciously reaches out a hand and begins lifting Paine up in a choke-hold.
Paine:
(Pained) Murdoc...it's me...stop it...please...wake up!
Murdoc's eyes snap open.
Murdoc:
Huh... wha... (He realises he's choking Paine) Paine! (He releases his grip) I am so sorry, I don't know how.
Paine:
(Catches her breath) Something is deeply wrong here, Murdoc. What's going on with you?
Murdoc:
Just a bad dream.
Paine:
A really bad dream. Can you tell me what it was about?
Murdoc is reluctant to tell her.
Paine:
I promise I won't tell anyone.
Murdoc:
There was pain, suffering, death.
Paine isn't impressed with her brother's vague details.
Paine:
What exactly happened? What caused all of this destruction you saw?
Murdoc looks at his sister darkly as he breathes shakily.
Murdoc:
(Gulps) Three figures. I didn't see their faces, but it was three demonic looking figures.
Paine:
Three figures, like the witches in Macbeth?
Murdoc:
In a sense, yeah.
Paine:
And I take it that the nightmare you had last night was about them rather than, (stifles a giggle) a clown wielding a chainsaw.
Murdoc:
Yup. I don't know what these dreams mean. I want to believe that they're just that, simple dreams and nightmares, but I've been getting similar visions when I'm wide awake too. And I didn't start getting them until I went inside mom's private room.
Paine:
Mom went through a similar phase when she was around your age.
Murdoc:
Have you and Lilith been having similar dreams too?
Paine:
I can't say that I have, and Lilith would've told me if she was.
Murdoc:
Strange. I don't know what I'm going to do to get rid of them. I'm actually kind of afraid to fall asleep now.
Paine looks at her brother with pity.
Paine:
I wish I could help you, I really do, but the only thing you can do right now is hope that these nightmares pass.
Murdoc:
However long that takes.
Paine:
Anyway, I'm about to go on patrol if you want to join me.
Murdoc:
Sure.
Murdoc grabs his Crow uniform out of his wardrobe and changes.
In the hall, Emerald Witch heals her neck as she waits for her brother; Crow appears.
Crow:
Again, I'm sorry.
Emerald Witch:
I know. When was the last time you meditated?
Crow:
I don't know anymore, for a long time. Why?
Emerald Witch:
Mom told you that you had to meditate regularly.
Crow:
Music has taken top priority.
Emerald Witch:
(Sighs) Never mind.
Crow:
Look, I'll try and put some time aside for meditation.
Emerald Witch:
You'd better. Who knows, a little meditation might do you and your night terrors a whole world of good.
Crow:
Yeah. So, where are we patrolling today?
Emerald Witch:
The city streets.
Later, they're walking down the streets of Jump City, surveying for criminal activity.
Crow:
Nothing so far.
Emerald Witch:
Stay vigilant.
Suddenly, they hear an explosion in the distance.
Crow:
Let's go.
The two siblings head to the source of the explosion; a bank van that's been tipped on its side due to a punctured tyre. They rush down to try and help whoever may be inside the van. As Crow pulls the driver out of the van (the side of his head bleeding), a gun cocks behind his head.
Gunman:
Don't move if you know what's good for you.
Crow:
Sis, take the driver.
Emerald Witch picks up the driver and takes him away as Crow grows tiger claws out of his hand and swats the gunman in the face.
This causes the gunman to let go of his gun, and Crow takes it and breaks it.
Gunman:
Stay back.
He pulls out a secondary gun and begins to pull the trigger. Crow reaches out his hand; suddenly, the gunman's hand begins to act.
Gunman:
What are you doing? I can't control my arm!
As four demonic eyes appear on Crow's face, he moves the gunman's arm to his head.
Gunman:
Stop!
As Emerald Witch gets the driver to safety, she looks in the distance to see this strange new power her brother is using.
Emerald Witch:
Brother, stop!
Crow ignores her. She rushes over and tackles Crow to the ground before he can make the gunman pull the trigger on himself. Crow's control over the gunman's arm breaks as he returns to normal. The gunman looks at them, terrified and backing away.
Gunman:
You're freaks, you know that?
He continues backing away, falling onto his rear, not noticing a truck heading for him until it's too late. Crow eventually snapped out of his trance.
Crow:
What happened?
Emerald Witch began to rush toward the lifeless gunman.
Emerald Witch:
What did you do?
Sometime later when paramedics take the gunman away in a body bag, Crow and Emerald Witch are watching this unfold from a rooftop. Emerald Witch looks angrily at Crow, who dips his head in shame.
Emerald Witch:
Mind telling me what that was all about?
Crow:
I don't know what came over me.
Emerald Witch:
If this is some kind of new power you just discovered, I recommend you keep it in check. I don't want another incident like that to happen again, understand?
Crow:
You're starting to sound just like mom.
Emerald Witch:
Well, she's right.
Crow:
But you are right. Whatever this new power is, I'll try my best to control it. If only I knew how I got it to begin with, or how to trigger it. It just kind of...happened.
Emerald Witch:
Mom and Dad need to know.
Crow:
They can't.
Emerald Witch:
Especially Mom.
Crow:
She'll send me to grandpa if she finds out.
Emerald Witch:
Not likely. At worst, she will put an inhibitor necklace for you while you learn to control this new power.
Crow:
Hope it doesn't come to that.
Emerald Witch:
Just pray she doesn't sense it.
In the Underworld, the group walk through the cavern to a large circular room, the ceiling held up by obsidian pillars. They stop when they see three shadowy figures standing atop a high platform; Raven's brothers.
Wrath:
Sister, why do you come before us?
Raven:
My son, your nephew, something's not right with him.
Changeling:
And we think you're the cause of it.
Lust:
Us? You think we would corrupt your son? You're out of your mind.
Raven:
Father's dead, who else would corrupt him?
Envy:
You fight an assortment of villains every day, sister. What makes you think it's not one of them?
Raven:
Motherly instinct.
Wrath:
(Unamused) Pfft, of course. (He then looks past Raven and Changeling to see the other former Titans) I see you brought all of your friends too.
Lust:
That orange one with the red hair is absolutely smokin'. And the one with the pink hair doesn't look too bad either.
Starfire and Jinx light up their hands and eyes.
Raven:
Stand down, you two. We're not at that point just yet.
Jinx and Starfire put down their hands and their eyes stop glowing.
Raven:
I only ask you leave my family alone; Trigon is gone. He's irrelevant.
Wrath:
Everything was so much better when father was around, sister. I think it's high time we bring him back and usher in a new era where we control everything!
Raven:
Necromancing is a crime against nature.
Envy:
I missed the part where we're supposed to care.
Starfire:
How could you three be so callous?
Lust:
We're demons, sweet cheeks, it's kind of our thing.
Starfire:
Do not call me sweet cheeks! Only Dick has that honour.
Lust:
Dick?
Nightwing:
Yeah, short for Richard. Got a problem with it?
Lust:
Yeah.
Flash:
Then why don't you and your boneheaded brothers come down and do something about it?
Wrath:
Here's a better idea.
The three brothers summon a large horde of fire wraiths, surrounding the group.
Lust:
The only thing hotter than you babes are our devoted minions (Cackles).
Wrath:
Get them!
Flash runs around them, causing a large burst of wind that put out the fire wraiths.
Flash:
You should think twice before using fire henchman. How about, zombies for next time?
Wrath:
Thanks for the suggestion.
The three brothers stretch out their hands. Suddenly the ground moves and opens up; undead beings climb up out of the rock. Tempest whacks Flash in the back of the head.
Flash:
It was meant to be a joke!
Cyborg:
Just like with those Owls, aim for the heads!
Nightwing:
Titans Go!
On the surface, Crow and Emerald Witch return home where they see Lilith watching the news.
Lilith:
Paine, Mudo, you're home.(She notices his face) What did he do?
Crow:
I...I'd rather not say.
Emerald Witch:
Murdoc has gained a new, very lethal power.
Newscaster:
According to eyewitnesses, the gunman was traumatised by the presence of two adolescent superheroes, not seeing the truck until he was hit. He died immediately after the collision.
Crow gets a look of horror on his face as Lilith turns to face her brother again.
Lilith:
Was that you?
Crow doesn't respond; instead he conjures a portal and leaves.
Lilith:
What is going on with him lately?
Emerald Witch:
I don't know, Lilith. I just don't know.
