Clyde vs Hop
As the group biked across the Route 5 bridge, they spot a familiar face at the middle of it.
"Hey, it's Hop!" said Lana. Everyone stops their bikes and walk over to him.
"Hi, everyone!" said Hop.
"Hey, Hop." said Lincoln.
"Who's this?" asked Sam.
"This is Hop." replied Lincoln. "He's a friend I made here in Galar."
"Who's the new girl?" asked Hop.
"This is Sam; a close friend of my sister, Luna." answered Lincoln.
"Nice to meet you." said Hop.
"Right back at ya." said Sam. Hop then looks at the whole group.
"I saw you all doing your gym battles in Turffield on my Rotom Phone." said Hop. "You're all really strong!"
"Thanks." said Leni. Hop then looks over at Lincoln with astonishment on his face.
"And I can't believe that you defeated a Dynamaxed Pokemon with a regular-sized one, Lincoln!" said Hop. "That's something that I'd expect my brother to be able to do!"
"Who's your brother?" asked Sam.
"His brother is the current Galar Region League Champion." said Lincoln.
"That's cool." said Sam. After a minute, Hop takes out a pokeball from his pocket.
"Would any of you like to have a Pokemon battle with me?" asked Hop. "I can use a warm-up before my gym battle in Hulbury." Clyde then steps forward with a pokeball in hand.
"Sure." said Clyde. "How many Pokemon should we use?"
"We'll each use three." said Hop.
"Sounds good to me." said Clyde. Everyone else steps back to give Hop and Clyde some battling space. Hop throws his pokeball, releasing his Wooloo; Clyde throws his pokeball, releasing his Urushifu.
"Is that your Urushifu?!" asked Hop with astonishment.
"Yeah." said Clyde. "Urushifu, use Brick Break!" Urushifu moves towards Wooloo with his right hand raised; when he got close to Wooloo, he brings down his hand, and strikes it with a solid hard chop right to its head, sending it rolling back towards Hop, unconscious.
"Wooloo!" says Hop.
"Like you said, we're really strong." said Clyde. Hop returns his Wooloo to its pokeball, puts it back in his pocket, then pulls out another one. He throws it, releasing a Corvisquire.
"Corvisquire, use Pluck!" said Hop. His Corvisquire flies at Urushifu, and jabs its beak into Urushifu's chest, doing super effective damage.
"Urushifu, use Rock Smash!" said Clyde. Urushifu slams a fist into Corvisquire's chest, not doing a lot of damage; but it suddenly becomes limp.
"Rock Smash has a chance of decreasing the defense of the Pokemon it's used on." said Lincoln.
"Corvisquire, use Fury Attack!" said Hop. His Corvisquire flies at Urushifu, and unleashes a barrage of jabs from his beak, all over Urushifu's torso.
"Quick, Urushifu; use Headbutt!" said Clyde. Taking advantage of the fact that Corvisquire was close to him at the moment, he rams his head into its chest. Fortunately for Corvisquire, the Headbutt doesn't cause him to flinch.
"Corvisquire, use Leer!" said Hop. His Corvisquire glares harshly at Urushifu, making him nervous, and lowering his defense.
"Hurry and use one more Heabutt!" said Clyde. Urushifu manages to hit Corvisquire with one more Headbutt; this time knocking it out.
"No way!" said Hop. Clyde sees that Urushifu was breathing hard.
"Do you still want to battle, buddy?" asked Clyde. Urushifu looks back, and nods. Hop returns his Corvisquire to its pokeball.
"Thanks for wearing out that Urushifu, pal." said Hop. He puts Corvisquire's pokeball back into his pocket. He then pulls out his last one. He then throws it, releasing a tall, light green, monkeylike Pokemon with an orange muzzle and hands, brown arms and long tail, a four-pointed leaf on its head, and a stick in each of his hands.
"Did your Grookey evolve?" asked Lincoln as he takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at Hop's new Pokemon.
"Thwackey, the Beat Pokemon, and the evolved form of Grookey. When it's drumming out rapid beats in battle, it gets so caught up in the rhythm that it won't even notice that it's already knocked out its opponent." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"Sounds like this Pokemon likes to jam!" said Luna.
"Maybe your Toxtricity, my future Toxtricity, and that dude can start a band together?" suggested Sam.
"That would be so rad!" said Luna. Hop also seemed to like the idea; but he had a battle to focus on first.
"Thwackey, use Double Hit!" said Hop. Thwackey leaps at Urushifu, and strikes its head twice with its sticks.
"Urushifu, try using Aerial Ace!" said Clyde. Urushifu moves quickly with white streams of energy flowing around him. He hits Thwackey, doing super effective damage.
"Quick, Thwackey; use Razor Leaf!" said Hop. Thwackey releases a barrage of leaves from the leaf on its head, striking Urushifu, and thanks to his defense being lowered by Corvisquire's Leer attack, and a Rapid Strike Style Urushifu is part water type, it did enough super effective damage to knock him out.
"Urushifu!" shouts Clyde.
"Great work, Thwackey!" said Hop. Thwackey does a backflip out of joy, then uses his sticks to do a drum solo on the bridge's surface.
"That Pokemon likes to jam!" said Luna. Clyde returns his Urushifu to his pokeball.
"You were great." said Clyde. "I'll get you to a Pokemon Center as soon as I can." He puts Urushifu's pokeball into his pocket.
"That Urushifu of yours is tough, Clyde!" said Hop.
"I know." said Clyde. He then pulls another pokeball out of his pocket. He throws it, releasing his Torracat. Hop suddenly looked nervous.
"Not a fire type!" said Hop.
"Torracat, use Fire Fang!" said Clyde. Torracat rushes towards Thwackey, his fangs becoming coated in fire as he does. When he got close enough, he bites down on Thwackey's torso, doing super effective damage to it.
"Hurry, Thwackey! Use Double Hit!" said Hop. Thwackey strikes Torracat's head twice with its sticks, making Torracat open his mouth, releasing Thwackey.
"Torracat, use Fury Swipes!" said Clyde. Torracat leaps at Thwackey, and slashes it repeatedly with his claws. It was soon too much for Thwackey to endure after all the damage it took from the recent attacks, and it passes out.
"Thwackey!" shouts Hop.
"Clyde did it!" cheered Lola.
"Way to go, little dude." said Luna.
"Whoa. Pokemon battles against other trainers are very intense." said Sam. Hop returns his Thwackey to its pokeball.
"You were great, Thwackey." said Hop. He then walks over to Clyde, and the two shake hands.
"That was an intense battle." said Clyde. "And your Thwackey was really strong."
"I know." said Hop. He then pulls some pokedollars out of his pocket and gives it to Clyde. Seeing this, Lola suddenly remembers something.
"Hey! You didn't give Linky money after your battle with him in Motostoke!" said Lola. Hop's shoulders slump as he realizes he really didn't. He goes over to Lincoln, and hands him a large wad of pokedollars.
"Why are you giving Lincoln a lot more than you did to Clyde?" asked Ronnie Anne.
"I also forgot to give him money after our battles in Postwick, and at Professor Magnolia's lab." explained Hop. Ronnie Anne nods in response. Hop then looks over at the group.
"I think I'll head for the Hulbury Pokemon Center to get my Pokemon treated." said Hop. "After that, I'll train up my Pokemon a bit more before my gym battle."
"We'll train up our Pokemon a little also." said Lincoln. Everyone else nods in response.
"See you all later." said Hop before turning around and running off.
"He's in a hurry." said Lucy.
"He's always like that." said Lincoln.
"So, off to Hulbury?" asked Lucy.
"Off to Hulbury." said Lincoln. The group get on their Rotom Bikes and speed off towards Hulbury. What awaits them there when they arrive?
