Ch. 3: Beware the Beast
In Avalar's Winter Tundra, The professor is once again working on orb technology with Bianca's help.
"It's interesting. With Ripto gone, it's been a cinch finding more orbs with different abilities." Professor said.
Not long after, Spyro appeared from the Superportal.
"Spyro, what brings you back to Avalar?" He said to him.
"This, Professor." Spyro showed the Superfly orb.
"That's the orb I lost! Thank goodness you found it." Professor said.
Spyro notices Bianca and starts to talk to her. "Hi there, Bianca. Didn't expect to see you here."
"Likewise. I came to help the professor, so I'm working on a spell to transfer orb's energy. Let me show you what I mean." Bianca waved her wand at the Superfly orb and its energy was sent out of the orb and swirled around Spyro. The magic poof and caused him to glow for a few seconds before fading. "There, now you are able to fly."
"Nice!" He said. "Now, I don't need to carry it everywhere!"
Bianca told him, "But, I haven't perfected the spell, so you are only able to fly for about five minutes."
"Oh, that's wonderful." Spyro said, sarcastically. "Well, I'm going back to relic hunting. My friend might have found one by now, but before I go, do any of you know where Elora is?"
"She isn't here. Said something about visiting her cousins in Fracture Hills." The Professor said.
"Oh, well tell her that I came by recently." Spyro said. He and Sparx went into the superportal back home.
"Now then, I make a few more adjustments…" The Professor said.
At the Boiling Isles, the portal to the Dragon Realms opened and Spyro and Sparx came out. They noticed that the sky was covered in dark clouds.
"Looks like it's about to rain, Sparx." Spyro said with a rumble of thunder heard from the clouds.
The door of the Owl House opened and Luz came out. She saw Spyro and said, "Welcome back, you two!"
"Hi there, Luz. Check this out!" Spyro said as he flew around the house.
"You're flying and you're not carrying the orb. Does that mean you gave it to your professor friend?" Luz said.
Spyro told her, "Yeah, but it was Bianca who did most of the work. She found a spell that let me use the orb's energy without carrying it.:
"That's awesome! No more carry around that orb!" She said.
"However, I'm only able to fly for five minutes. She still hasn't completed the spell." Spyro said, finishing answering Luz's question.
"Well, that's unexpected." Luz said. "So, did both of you come for the rain?"
"Absolutely not, I don't like prolonged rain showers and neither does Sparx. I even forget what the sun looks like." Spyro said to her.
Luz said, "Well, I love it as well as feeling the first few drops on my hair." She bent down to talk to a flower. "I bet you do too, little buddy." A drop landed on the flower which killed and shrivel it instantly. "What?"
"This can't be good." Spyro said with Sprax buzzing questionably on what that raindrop was made of.
More rain drops appeared from the sky and sizzled when they hit the ground. Eda came out of the forest covering her face with her arm from the rains and ran towards Luz.
"Boiling Rains! Everybody inside now!" Eda shouted
"You don't have to tell me twice!" Spyro said as he charged towards the Owl House and went inside.
Luz was confused at what Eda just said but she dragged her inside safe from the Boiling rains, but she crashed in King's Demon 101 board.
"Whew, that was close, but the important thing is you didn't get hurt." She said.
"Yep." Luz said. A cup fell on her head. "Not hurt..at all."
"A bit too late for that." Spyro said.
A few minutes later, Luz is at the front door patching herself and King up from the minor scratches they got.
"Look, now we're boo-boo buddies!" King said.
Luz pupils grew and she fell on the floor from the nickname King gave them. "Oh my gosh, I love you so much!" She said.
"Ugh, like I want to hear more cute names." Spyro said with a slight irritation in his voice.
All of them looked at Eda who was making a spell under a force field.
"A boiling rainstorm on The Boiling Isles. The weather here is so fun!" Luz said with Sparx buzzing in disagreement.
"Don't get comfortable. We don't get weather. We have plagues, gorenados, shale hail, painbows." Eda said, telling them about the freaky weather on the Boiling Isles.
"It's like a rainbow, but looking at it turns you inside out." King said with Luz pulling her hoodie closed after hearing that.
"You know you didn't have to tell us that. Now, I think I wouldn't mind normal rain after hearing that." Spyro said to him.
"Until the boiling rains stops, no one is allowed outside tonight." Eda said.
"If the rains don't get you, The Snaggleback will!" King said as he showed his demon book. "They wander the rains feeding on boiled tourists!"
"Well, whatever the case, this force field spell should protect the house from The Boiling Rains and made-up demons." Eda said while making fun of The Snagglebeast.
"Hoot! Well, hurry up with that force field! That rain is getting close to my precious stucco!" Hooty said, demanding for Eda to finish the force field.
"Yeah, yeah. Hold on, I got it." Eda said as she grabbed her staff and placed the spell on top. She slammed the butt of the staff causing the spell to create a larger version of the force field which covered the entire house.
Luz was in awe after seeing the spell made, so she said, "Wow, someday I'll like to be cool as Eda the Owl Lady. Magical, sassy, surprising foxy for her age…"
"You forgot to mention mysterious, secretive and not being well trusted." Spyro said with Luz quickly looking at him with an annoyed stare for a second before turning her attention back to Eda.
"Hey, why do they call you the Owl Lady anyway." She asked.
"'Cause I'm so wise!" Eda said with some sass.
"Cause she coughs up rat bones." Hooty said.
"Maybe because she's nocturnal and stays up at night." Spyro said with Sparx just buzzing.
"I think it's because she gets easily distracted by shiny objects." King said.
"No, I don't!" Eda said, with King proving his point by getting a pen with a gem button out of his hat. He pressed a button on it and the gem on top started to glow. Eda pupils as she delightly focuses on the pen. "It sparkles and shimmers and shines and delights. I must have it for my nest…" She pounces to get the pen but King puts it away behind his back causing her to crash on the ground.
"Yessh, better keep her away from the gems we collected, Sparx." Spyro told him with Sparx nodding while buzzing.
"You have a nest? I want a nest! Nest party!" Luz said, with glee.
After Eda gets back up with the help of Luz, she starts to feel exhausted. "Ugh, that force field really took it out of me." She said.
"What, you're already tuckered out?" Spyro said to her.
"Well, with someone with her advanced age, she's bound to move slower sooner or later." King said with Eda covering his face with his hat. "Ah, darkness!"
Eda went inside the house while Luz saw an opportunity.
"This is perfect! Since we will be stuck in the house all night, Eda won't have any excuse to teach me a lesson." Luz said to King, Spyro, and Sparx
"Hold on, I thought you're already learning something with this guy." Spyro said, talking about King.
"Yeah, don't you want to finish our lesson? I was going to let you scratch a demon's tummy. Me!" King said.
"Oh, uh, sorry, King, but magic! You'll understand." She said.
She then goes to Eda to get her to teach her a spell while King gloomy looks while his horn pierces his hat. Spyro and Sparx try to keep King's spirits up.
"Hey, cheer up! I'll bet she'll come running back to you in no time!" He said to him with Sparx buzzed telling him not to give up hope.
"I don't need either of your pity!" King said while stomping while looking at them angrily.
Eda goes through a privacy screen and snaps her finger to change into her pajamas while dropping her staff. She sighs then lies down on the couch to sleep, but Luz keeps her from sleeping by looking above her which causes her to shriek.
"Oh, Eda, have I told you how rad your fang looks today?" Luz said.
"Whatever it is, no." Eda said to her.
Luz continues to compliment her, "And your hair is like, girl."
"I'm not teaching you any spells tonight. I'm sleepy." Eda grabbed a blanket on the couch and covered herself so that she could sleep. "I'm a sleepy little owl."
"Please, Eda, please! How am I supposed to earn my witch's staff if I don't know any spells?" Luz said, begging Eda to teach her something.
"No. Sleep. Eda said in denial. She goes in her blanket and tries to go back to sleep only to wake up again when she hears the pen's click. "Sparkle thing." She got up and saw Luz holding the pen and pressing the light on and off.
"Oh, this?" Luz said while looking at Eda and showing the pen. Eda hopped up while being attracted to the glowing pen. She makes for a grab but is denied when Luz keeps it away from her which causes her to fall flat on her face. "Teach me a spell and I'll give you your sparkle thing."
"I'll respect your cunning, but I also hate you for it." Eda said to her.
Lighting strikes outside as Eda is about to teach Luz.
"If you want a witch's staff, don't make me repeat…myself." Eda starts to doze off for a second before quickly gasping as she wakes up. "Witches' staffs have power embedded into them."
"Gimme, gimme!" Luz said being grabby, but Eda just ignored her and continued.
"But before a staff is earned, every witch must learn to cast spells on their own. Now…" Eda tossed her staff on the floor. "Tonight, I will show you how to create…light." Eda said as she drew a glowing circle in the air with her finger. The circles formed into a ball of light. It descends near Luz's face and pops. Luz gasps when she sees this.
"Yawn!" King said who is drawing demons on paper. "Who needs another boring spell lesson when you can be learning all the fun ways a demon can kill you." He holds up a drawing of a huge demon biting someone's head. "Look how teethy. Bite, bite!"
"Yeah, like that gonna get her to crawl back to you." Spyro said, who is lying on the floor.
"Be quiet, both of you. I need to focus." Luz said, causing King to feel rejection again.
"Now humans think magic comes from thin air, but that stupid." Eda said, continuing the lesson.
"She's right, you know. In the dragon realms, the magic comes from the dragons themselves." Spyro said to Luz.
Eda just raised an eyebrow at what Spyro had said, "Following that example, everything comes from something. Let me ask you kid, where do you think magic comes from?"
"Um, from the heart?" Luz said with her eyes become more cute as she said this. Spyro just gagged slightly at Luz's answer.
"Actually, you're right!" Eda said with Luz gasping again while blushing.
"She is?" Spyro said, surprised. Sparx was also surprised that Luz got it right.
"Seriously…" Eda pulled out a diagram of vicersa from her hair and showed it to Luz. "It comes from a magic bile sac attached to a witch's heart."
"Aw, gross!" Luz said but quickly changed from being disgusted to being interested. "Can I keep that?"
"No." Eda said as she put the diagram back in her hair. "Now, everything depends on the spell circle, the bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell." Eda created another spell circle, bigger than the last. It became a bigger circle of light before poofing away.
"But, how can I, little old Luz, do magic if I don't have a magic…bile…sac?" Luz asked.
"You know I'm not actually sure." She said to her.
"What?!" Luz said.
"I know witches did magic in the past, but I never bothered to figure out how." Eda said with her laughing followed by a snort.
"Eda!" Luz shouted.
"Don't worry, you'll figure it out." She said while crouching so that she could scratch Luz's head. "Now…" Eda stood up and a crack from her back was heard. "Oof, I need to lie down and get some sleep."
"That's it? Wait I need to see you do the circle thingy again. I'll record it on my phone this time." Luz said, pleading for Eda to do the spell circle one more time.
"You're really running her ragged if you're this desperate. You're gonna knock her out if you keep this up." Spyro said.
Luz ignored Spyro and started recording Eda. "Smile, you're on camera! Come on, one more spell won't kill you."
Eda groaned and said, "Fine. Now you see…" She tried to make the spell circle again, but was so tired, it's appearance was pretty shaky. "…the spell circle is really key, because…" the circle vanishes as she yawns. "Ooh, boy." She fell down on the floor.
King decided to make a joke about this, "Well, it looks like one more spell killed Eda."
Luz yelps at what just happened. Eda was rolled to get her face off the floor.
"Oh, my gosh. My obsession with learning a spell knocked out Eda. I'm a monster!" Luz said.
"Well, I don't know what to say I told you so but…" Luz looked at Spyro with a peeved face. She turned to see Eda again.
"Bap!" King said as slapped Eda's face. "Yep, she's out cold. Bap!" He slapped her face again. "Ha-ha-ha, just making sure."
"We should get help, right?" Luz said. She ran to the door, until Spyro flew in her path, blocking her way.
"Are you crazy, Luz? You can't go outside now!" Spyro told her.
King grabbed her leg and said, "Haven't you forgotten, Luz? The Boiling Rains!"
"No, let her try, you two. It will be funny." Hooty said, with King slamming the door to keep him quiet.
"But, what if Eda's dead?" Luz asked while lifting her hand towards Eda.
"You're just overreacting. I mean look at her right now." Spyro said.
"Shiny thing, big nest." Eda said who is sleep-talking. She then starts to snore.
Spyro then said, "She even has no problem staying alive after getting her head chopped off."
"He does have a point." King said. "That woman can survive anything. She probably just tired from staying up all night chasing shrews and voles."
"Well, we can't just leave her on the floor." Luz said with King just looked at Eda with a gloomy look.
As thunder boomed outside, Luz and King dragged Eda back to her room.
Luz removed an animal skeleton from Eda's nest and she and King put her in it. "Sorry for pushing you so hard, Eda. Please don't hurt me when you wake up."
"Should I bap her again?" King said.
"Just let her rest, you little goober." Luz said while stretching King's skull. "Come on, let's go downstairs." She walks out of the room with Spyro entering afterwards.
"You're gonna hit her again, aren't you?" Spyro said, wondering if King is going to slap her again.
"Bap!" King said, slapping her face a third time. He giggled and left the room.
Spyro was about to leave but he and Sparx saw a yellow potion on a tabletop. They just brushed it off and headed out of the room.
King went back drawing the demon in his book while Luz tried to figure out the spell circle she recorded. She groans and said while copying what Eda did in the recording,
"This is all she does!" Luz said as she mimicked Eda's making the spell circle. "Why have to be so cryptic, Owl Lady?" She looked at the recording again, until King put his notepad on her phone.
"Hey, you know what's really cryptish, let me tell you the most spine-chilling. Smoochy-pie the sweetie baby!" He showed a fish demon on his notepad. "He's… he's a lot more threatening than his name implies."
"That is supposed to scare people? I'll believe it when I see it." Spyro said to King.
"No one asked you!" King shouted.
Luz said to them both, "Not now, you two. I want to figure out this spell, but if I don't have a magic sac what's the point? I'll just be twirling my fingers un-magically forever.
"Why do you want to learn magic so badly anyway?" King asked.
"I'm wondering that as well." Spyro said.
Luz said, "I was a nobody back home, but becoming a witch is my chance to be someone. Don't either of you know what it likes to have no one take you seriously?"
King and Spyro look at each other for a minute thinking about what Luz had told them. They both looked again as Luz with King sighs while thunder rumbles outside.
"If I help you learn that spell, could we finish our lesson?" King asked her.
Luz said happily, "Yes, definitely! You can teach me about demons all week if you help me learn this spell!"
"Well, she said witches do magic differently, so there has to be a way, right?" King draws something on his notepad then shows it to Luz. "And I have a theory. Every day, I notice Eda sneaking drinks of this special elixir, see? Then, see always get a boost of energy, see? I think that's where she gets her powers!"
Spyro thinks he knows what King is saying, "Elixir? Funny you should say that. I saw this yellow potion on a tabletop in her room."
Luz asked King, "And this elixir will help me learn magic?"
"Sí." King said.
Luz was so happy that she hugged King.
"Thank you so much! You're a prince!" Luz said, excited
"His name is King, Luz." Spyro said.
"Right." She said.
Thunder crashed near Eda's room. King entered to find the elixir.
Now where could it be? King said, search for the tabletop.
He looks forward and sees the tabletop and the potion sitting on top of it. He walked towards it only to stop to see that he stepped on a trap. He quickly moved his left before it went off.
"Ha, nice try." King said to the trap.
The trap came alive, grew legs, and said, "Nah, my heart wasn't in it." The trap leaves the room afterwards.
King used the curtain to get up on the tabletop. He then reads the tag on the potion. "An elixir a day." "Cryptic." He pulls off the tag to keep it with him by putting it under his collar. He took the elixir afterwards and jumped off the tabletop. Before he leaves, he sees Eda sleeping and starts to think about what he is doing, but he just brushes it off and heads back downstairs.
King went back to the kitchen where Luz is waiting for the elixir while wearing an apron.
"Got it!" King said, handing her the potion.
Luz opens it and gets excited about what she is about to do. "Wow, I can't believe I'm about to learn magic. Real magic. This is historic!" She slowly lifted the potion to her mouth to drink it until a lighting crash caused Luz to get startled and fumble with the potion which resulted in her dropping it and smashing on the floor. "Golden elixir, gone! This is awful!"
"Hah, who even needs a light spell when we have tons of lamps?" King said. After saying this, the lamps die out. Luz glared at King with an annoyed expression.
"You just have to say something, didn't you?" Spyro said to him.
King said, "Ugh, Hooty controls the house lights. He probably just fell asleep."
A crash was heard along with Hooty hooting as he was in trouble.
"Hooty!" Luz said as she took off her apron and headed to the living room with King jumping on her shoulder and Spyro and Sparx following them.
They all head to the living room to see the front door was taken off its hinges by a beast covered in a silhouette. It also made a mess of the front wall. After scratching the wood near Hooty, it growled at them all and quickly ran off. Luz went to Hooty to see if he's ok.
"Hooty, are you in there?" Luz said as she tapped her back and checked his eye to see if he is fine, but he's knocked out cold. "Whatever did this escaped into the rain. What can survive that?"
"Oh my gosh, The Snaggleback!" King said.
"The demon with the gigantic shell?" Spyro said.
King said, "Yes, this has to be it! Remember, it feeds during the rains. It must have stumbled across the house and seen us inside."
An unruly screech was heard from the beast as it jumped to the above window to head upstairs.
"This is terrifying. So why do both of you look so happy?!" Luz said to them both.
King giggles then said, "Because this could be a lesson. This would be a great way for you to see a wild demon up close and personal."
"I say we take on that demon! Bring it on!" Spyro said with Sprax buzzing also amped on fighting it.
"All three of you want to go toward those creepy sounds? No way!" Luz said.
"What if Eda gets eaten by The Snaggleback? She's upstairs and defenseless because you knocked her out." King said, reminding Luz of what she did earlier.
Spyro said, "He's right, you know. Do you really want your mentor to become demon chow?"
Luz groans but with no choice she decides to follow them. Luz and King get ready for battle with Luz wearing gloves and bandages on her face similar to eye black while King taped a pillow on his chest. Luz grabbed a hockey stick for protection while King favored using Francois instead. Spyro showed that he is all fired up by blowing smoke out of his nostrils. They all went upstairs and thought the hallway with Anne using her phone for light. They see the door to Eda's room creak open so they go in and see that Eda is missing and her window was shattered.
"Oh my gosh. Eda!" Luz said, looking at the broken window.
"She got snaggle-backed!" King said.
Luz heads to her nest to see if Eda is ok and finds a pillow that was slashed by the beast and Eda nowhere to be found. "No, slash marks! King, you're the demon expert. I'll need your help."
"I'll go get my demon book." King said. As he runs down the hall, a beastly show dash quickly above him, snarling. He made it back to Eda's room, holding two books. "Wait, should I use my first edition or second?" King gasped when he saw that Luz, Spyro and Sparx were gone.
"Luz?" King said as he dropped the books caused the pages to turn to the snagglebeast's page. "The snagglebeast got her! Spyro's gone too!"
The shadowy figure snarls while passing by King. This caused him to give chase to it.
"You craven beast! Give me back my boo-boo buddy!" He said while chasing it. At a corner, he sees a door creak closed as well as seeing Luz's shoe in front of it while upside down.
"Luz!" King said while slowly walking toward the shoe. He picks it up to use as a weapon and opens the door to enter the closet. As he opens it, he sees Sparx in the closet.
"Oh, it's just you." King said to Sparx. "I thought you were the Snaggleback."
Sprax tried buzzing at King that he and Spyro got separated, finding Luz, but he couldn't understand him.
Soon King sees something was behind the clothes in front of them.
"There's nowhere for you to run!" King said as he moved the clothes to reveal Snaggleback, alot less menacing than King described him. "Snaggleback? Wow, you are a lot shorter in person."
Snaggleback shudders then said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I just need a place to hide from the rains."
King tells him, "Then, why did you break down our door and take Luz? That's not cool, man. Bad Snaggleback!"
"I-I didn't do any of that stuff. I snuck through a window just now." Snaggleback said.
"Huh? If you didn't take them, then what…" A crash was heard from above them and a shadowed claw appeared from the hole and grabbed Snaggleback by his shell.
"Oh no! A twist!" Snaggleback said as he was dragged upward through the hole in the ceiling.
Stomping was heard from above until banging was heard from the door. It creaks open to reveal the beast in the hallway. It spat out Snaggleback's shell once it finished eating him. It then roared at King and Sparx.
"Oh my…" King said with him backing up until he hits the wall. "Stay back! Hey, hey, I am the King of Demons, ok? And as such, I demand that you barf my friends back up!"
The beast screeched while raising its claw, ready to strike. King ducked it which caused the beast to scratch the wall while Sparx flew over it and out of the closet and flew out of the closet. King ran from under it and followed Sparx with the beast giving chase to them both. They go past a corner which causes the beast to slam against a wall, slowing it down temporarily before chasing them again. As he rounds another corner, Sparx sees Spyro who was back in Eda's room.
"In here, Sparx!" Spyro told him with Sprax heading in the room.
King was coming up next as he turned the corner. He was still running until Luz grabbed him and dragged him in the room. The beast slowly walks through the hallway while exhaling loudly. Inside Eda's room, footsteps are heard as the beast passes through the room.
"Luz?" King said to her.
Luz, relieved to see King said, "King, Sparx, oh I'm so glad you're both safe!"
"Where did you go?" He asked.
Luz answered the question by saying, "I was checking up on Eda, and she was gone then you were gone and then Spyro and Sparx were gone."
"We tried to find you, but we ended up getting separated." Spyro said to her. Sparx buzzed to Spyro about hearing a noise in the closet which ended up being Snaggleback. "Oh, so that's where you went."
Luz continued talking to King, "I also tripped and lost my shoe." She looked at King and saw he was holding her shoe. "Oh hey you found it." She got the shoe from him.
As Luz raises her foot to put her shoe back on, King sees a piece of paper on the bottom of her foot.
"What's that?" He said. He took it and read it out loud. "Keeps the curse at bay." This caused King to gasp as he took the tag from his collar and put them together. He read them both. "An elixir a day keeps the curse at bay!"
"Curse, what are you trying to say?" Luz asked him.
King tells her, "I was wrong about that creature the whole time! That's no Snaggleback! That creature is…"
King was cut off by the beast's claw breaking a hole through the door. It smashed through using its body revealing itself to be Eda who is in the form of some sort of demonic beast.
"Eda?" Luz said, shocked to see the beast was her teacher.
Eda snarls as she roared and raised one of her claws as she was about to slash them. Luz screamed, causing her phone to fall out of her pocket. Its camera went off as it hit the floor making a flash that blinds Eda temporarily. While she screams in pain, Luz takes the opportunity to grab King to hide in the room's balcony. Spyro, who knew he couldn't fight her, followed them to the balcony to hide. Once recovered, Eda notices that her prey was gone, so she screamed which echoed throughout the house.
She walks near the balcony, sniffing around to find their scent. Luz put her hands over her mouth to keep making noise while King placed his claws on his head. Spyro stayed silent as well, for he knew if he was to attack her, both Luz and King would stop him. Eda moved even closer, looking like she got their scent. To keep her from looking Eda grabbed a can and tossed it out of the room. The thud it made caused Eda to scream again as she followed the sound.
"Oh, man. Did any of you see her eyes?" Luz tells them.
"Of course we saw them! They were as black as the night in Dark Hollow!" Spyro said to her telling them one of Artisans' worlds.
"What happened to her?" She said.
"Don't either of you see? The elixir doesn't give Eda powers, it prevents her from turning into that thing! She turned into a walking nightmare and it's all my fault!" King said, feeling guilt about what he did. "I'm so sorry, Luz. I-I just wanted you to be into demons like you're into magic. I don't have many friends and no one even pays that much attention to me. I thought maybe if I taught you, finally someone would care about creatures about me."
"Well…" Luz brings out the pen. "…let's finish the lesson."
"Huh?" He said.
Luz told him, "Eda turned into some kind of demon and we need to save her, so who knows more about demons than the best teacher in the world?"
King points to himself, wanting to know Luz is talking about himself to which nods yes to him. He took the pen then hugged Luz while giggling.
"Ok, you two. Enough with the hugging and let's figure out how to save Eda." Spyro said to them both.
King placed some leaves on the floor to draw a simple drawing of Eda's beast head. "Let's see. She was bigger, covered all over in feathers and had giant black eyes." He said as he drew. "Demons with black eyes are usually sensitive to light." King saw Luz phone in her pocket and remembered the flash it made on Eda which stunned her briefly. This gives him an idea. "That's it! Light! Luz, use your human wonder rectangle!"
"I can't. My camera all blasted." Luz said while showing that her phone camera is now broken by showing its cracked screen. It was damaged when the phone hit the floor.
"Okay then…. How about your dragonfly?" King said to Spyro.
"What about him?" Spyro said with Sparx buzzing while pointing at himself.
"His bright glow! We can use that to stop her!" He said.
"Sparx's light is too small, so that's not going to work." Spyro said with Sparx showing he doesn't want to be part of this plan by turning around.
"Then… What about that light spell?" King said to Luz.
Luz sighs. "You all saw me. I can't draw circles in the air. I'm not like Eda." She played the video again, but after Eda made the circle, the video glitches revealing a pattern in the circle. Luz gasps when she sees this. "There's a pattern in the spell circle!"
"Really?" Spyro said with him and Sparx looking at her phone's screen.
"What, where?" King said, also looking at the phone's screen.
Luz grabs another leaf and gets the pen from King. "It looks like this." She draws the pattern on the leaf. "There." She taps it with the tip of the pen and it starts to glow. Luz gasps again as the leaf folds itself and brighting until it becomes a small ball of light. She cups the light in her hands gently to closely look at it. "It's beautiful. Oh, my gosh. I just did magic." She stood up while King was still hanging on her arm and started shouting her accomplishment. "I just did magic! I just did magic!"
Spyro shushes her. "Keep your voice down. She'll hear you if you keep shouting like that."
"Also, we're not gonna stop anything with something that small." King screeching of Eda was heard in the distance which caused Luz to lower the ball of light while she sat again. "What do we do now?"
"I think I know how to get Eda back." She said. "Will you help me, boo-boo buddy?" She placed her fist near King.
"Hmm, I'm kinda over that nickname, but ok." King said. He fist bumps Luz once he is done talking. Luz smiles while they do it.
They both looked at Spyro and Sparx. "Ok, well help too. Just no nicknames for us." He said while fist bumping Luz and King.
Eda is seen sniffing around the living room then jumps on a treasure chest to sniff at a book. A clicking sound was heard which caught her attention as she saw King with the pen.
"Oh, what lovely thing do we have here? It's just so dang shiny. Oh, my. Oh dear. But if this doesn't convince you, perhaps this will." King pointed down the hall and Sparx came out holding a green gem. Eda gazed at Both the pen's light as well as the green gem as their shine caused her to be attracted to them. She lunges to get them while screeching, but King runs down the hallway with Sprax flying in the same direction.
Eda follows them until King and Sparx quickly turn a corner to evade her. Before Eda could follow, she ended up sliding into the wall due to A bunch of books and papers on the floor. After this, she looks up and gasps when she sees Luz on a ladder with a huge light glyph nearly done. She also notices Spyro flying above her. She screeched but her attack was put to a halt when Spyro somersaulted and then launched downwards, head bashing her on her forehead which stunned her for a moment. He then flies to the corner where King and Sparx to avoid getting hit by the upcoming light spell.
"I'm sorry, Eda, but this is for your own good!" Luz said. She finished the light glyph and slammed it to cause it to activate.
As she recovered from the headbash, The glyph's light shone near Eda which caused her to scream as she was engulfed by the blinding light. As the light fades, Eda opens her eyes to see that she is back in her room and no longer in her beast form due to her drinking an elixir via a straw in her mouth. She sits up and sees that she has not changed back completely as shown by her right eye still being fully black and her ear still looking crooked. She gasps and slurps the rest of the elixir, causing her gem to turn back and the remains of her beast form to disappear.
After finishing, she said, "W-what happened? Oh, I have the worst headache. Feels like someone bashed my skull in. Oh and my mouth tastes like roadkill." She gags followed by her retching on the floor, spitting out a giant owl pellet. It broke open, revealing Snaggleback who doesn't feel like getting up.
"I'm just gonna… lie down here for a minute." He said.
She sees the elixir on the floor and grabs it. "Hmm? I was looking for that."
Spyro came into Eda's Room and said, "It's a good thing there was a spare in your closet." Eda gasped as she saw Spyro and Sparx. "Before you say anything, no, we didn't take your elixir, it was Bonehead here who snatched it." King came in next with Eda starting to stare at him as she couldn't believe it.
"King? King?!" Eda said while pointing at him. "You stole my elixir? I oughta break every bone in your…"
"Shhh! Over there." King said pointing to Luz who is making more light glyphs out of paper. She activates the one she made which turns it into another ball of light and joins the others she made.
"Wow. How's she doing that?" Eda asked.
"I have no idea, but she managed to do magic all by herself." King said. "Hey, I, uh, kind of messed a bunch of things up back there. And I just wanted to say, I'm sorry."
"Well, you'd better be. I got a long list of disgusting chores with your name on it! But it's not entirely your fault." Eda said. Luz walks over while tossed a ball of light above her. "I hate to admit this while he's around…" Spyro knows she is talking about him. "…but, I haven't been completely honest with you guys. When I was younger, I-I was cursed. I don't know exactly how it happened, but the only thing I know is that I don't take my elixir, well that's why people call me The Owl Lady. No one likes having a curse, but if you take the right steps, it's manageable."
"Whoa. So are you okay?" Luz said wanting to know if Eda is fine.
Eda wasn't worried about the curse. So she said, "There's nothing for you to worry about. It's all under control. And as long as no one steals my elixir—King–then I'm fine. But, hey, look at this, a human doing magic, good on you kid."
Luz said while putting her arms behind her back, "I got some encouragement from a great teacher, and a good friend."
"Oh, you." King said while being embarrassed.
"It wasn't a problem." Spyro said with Sparx buzzing happily.
"Hey, hey!" Hooty said, finally woken up. "Is anyone there? Hello? Hoot! I'm on the floor! It's cold!"
"That voice. That horrific voice!" King said as he walked out of Eda's room to the living room.
"We'll take care of him, you stay in bed." Luz said. She picks up Snaggleback. "Come on, you goofy fella, we'll set you free now."
"Ow, ow, ow. I think my tail was disgusted." Snaggleback said while Luz walked out of the room.
"Walk it off, dude." Spyro said to him as he and Sparx headed out of the room as well.
The door closed with Eda sight then laying down to try to sleep. As she closed her eyes, she was in a void with nothing around but a door and distance whispering.
"No, not this memory again." Eda said. The door opened showing a shadow who was wavering. It has two circles near its top, and is lit with white light. "You! You're the one who cursed me, aren't you? Who are you? Who are you?!"
The dream fades as Eda quickly sits up with a gasp. She looked around and saw that she was having the same dream again so she exhaled afterwards. Back at the living room, Luz was putting bandages on the claw marks on Hooty's door which was placed back where he was.
"Welcome to the boo-boo buddy club, Hooty." Luz said.
"Finally, I get to be a part of something!" Hooty said, happily
"Well, the rains are long gone, we're outta here!" Spyro said as he and Sparx were about to head out.
"Wait!" Luz said, which stopped them. "Before you go, Spyro, there is something I want to give to you."
"Hey, If it's another hug or joining your club, then my answer is a big fat…" Spyro stopped what he had to say when he saw Luz pulling a light glyph out of her pocket. "Ok, this is different."
"I want you to have this for helping me change Eda back to normal. Maybe your friends could help you find a way to make this useful to you." She said to him.
"Gee, thanks. Sparx, can you grab it?" Spyro said. Sprax getting the light glyph from Luz. "Well, see ya, we're outta here!" Spyro and Sparx walk out of the house with Luz waving goodbye.
On the couch, King was drawing Eda's beast form on a notepad with Snaggleback describing what she looks like.
"And then she had teeth in her stomach, teeth in her stomach! Can you believe that?" Snaggleback said.
"Oh yeah." King said. He showed the drawing to him. "This will make a great edition to my demon book!"
Snaggleback said, "That book is filled with so many interesting things. Like this." He grabbed one of King's demon books. "I'm one of the strongest demons on The Boiling Isles, huh?"
"Yeah, I'm gonna have to edit that." King said.
"Oh." Snaggleback said while looking down on his luck.
Notes: I meant to get this chapter done by Sept. 9 for Spyro 25th Anniversary, but I was a few days late. Oh well, who cares about this being late? Happy 25th Anniversary, Spyro!
