Todoroki-kun to Koi no Yamai

[ 2 ]

Kagome's heart stopped. She wanted nothing more than to explode into a million tiny pieces.

The air itself halted. All sound ceased. It was as if time itself slowed when the effects of Kanna's quirk dissipated.

The girl could feel the weight of everyone's stares. She could hear the grinding of their mental gears as her cohorts had individual epiphanies. While some like Denki appeared dumbfounded by the news, others like Izuku looked as if a light bulb turned on in their brains.

As if they thought, 'Ohhhhh, it all makes sense now.'

Yes, it was true.

Kagome Higurashi had been crushing hard on Shouto Todoroki for a while now.

But it was equally as true that she, outside of being pleasant and cordial to him, had made no obvious moves at revealing her feelings... not that she knew of anyway.

Okay, so maybe the fact that she went out of her way to greet him every day with a "Good morning, Todoroki-kun" could have been a sign. Kagome didn't think previously that action would give away her crush since she made a point of greeting most of her classmates in the morning, including the openly hostile Katsuki Bakugou. But then again...ever since they first became classmates, Shouto Todoroki remained the only person who never returned the pleasantry—verbally or otherwise.

Even Katsuki eventually acknowledged her existence with a "Tsk", upward nod, or grumbled greeting of sorts, depending on his mood.

So perhaps, now that she was forced to confess this secret, her classmates took note of her determination to greet someone who was consistently indifferent toward her.

Kagome's mind was running in circles as she heard what she imagined what her classmates thought of her crush. Their voices echoed and resounded in her mind. They were drowning out of the sound of her own inner voice. Until—.

Tsuyu, bless her unfiltered, froggy mouth, spoke out in her usual nonchalant tone, "Well, that's no big deal, ribbit. Todoroki-kun is the most handsome guy in our class." She didn't bat an eyelash as she explained, "I'm sure Kagome-chan isn't the only one who likes him, ribbit."

Immediately, Momo offered Kagome a sympathetic smile and nodded, "That's true. And Kagome-chan is still one of our top students, so I think it's commendable to ignore one's feelings to focus on studies."

The heavy coil in Kagome's stomach lightened as she sunk back into her seat. She was so moved that she was speechless.

"Hey, Kago-rin," Mineta shot up in his chair while pelvic thrusting the air. "If Todoroki doesn't want you, I'll gladly—!"

Denki took the opportunity to aim his thumb at his chest while flashing a smile, "Me too, Kago-rin~! I'll take his place!"

"Ahem!" Tenya took it upon himself to rise and bellow, "Everyone, this classroom is a place of learning, not a dating sim! Settle down and let us set a good example for our kohais!"

"Ahahahaha!" All Might made a show of his hearty laugh as he placed his hands on his hips. "Very well said, students! I applaud Higurashi! What an exemplary example of embracing the fire of youth!"

After a few more remarks from other students, Aizawa was sure to get the visit back on track. A couple more of the grade schoolers showcased their quirks and in response, they were treated to demonstrations from a few 1A volunteers (Tenya, Ochaco, and Denki - the last of the trio short-circuited his brain).

It was a given that Kagome didn't give the interaction her undivided attention.

She was usually diligent and only occasionally snuck glances across the room at the apple of her eye. But today was different. Today was the day that she (unwillingly) confessed her feelings.

Kagome couldn't stop her eyes from straying from the front of the room.

From her vantage point, she could only catch glimpses of his profile.

Sure, he had been apathetic toward her when she was treating him like he was any other classmate. But she couldn't help but wonder if he would start noticing her now that he knew that she viewed him as more.

[Glimpse]

His eyes were staring dead ahead.

[Glance]

His eyes were on his notebook as his hand worked on notes.

[Peek]

His attention was back at the front of the classroom.

Kagome propped her cheek against her palm as she suppressed a sigh.

The fact that Shouto Todoroki wasn't looking at her with disgust was a relief.

But the fact that Shouto Todoroki wasn't looking at her at all was equally deflating.

'Oh well,' Kagome thought as she tore her gaze away from the stoic student. 'It's not like I ever thought that I'd have a chance,' she tried to console herself with that thought. As she brought the tip of her pen to her notebook, she added, 'Why would something like this make that change?'
