Toshinori's Choice
Chapter twenty-seven: The 1-A and 1-B friendship plan, part one
Aizawa and Sekijiro, who had Hizashi, Ryo, and Toshinori standing nearby, had all forty of the first year hero course students of UA outside on a track field. The boys in 1-B who were permanently crippled due to injury were treated, but they still had their inflicted handicaps; Tetsutetsu for instance was clearly favoring one of his legs. There was also how Yaoyorozu had a shell-shocked, haunted look to her, as if she had just been dealt a crippling blow that there would be no recovering from. There's also the general amount of distrust 1-A had towards 1-B.
A distrust that the teachers were planning to work on to do away with. "Alright, kids," Sekijiro began, "Today we'll be starting up a little team building exercise meant to make you guys stop being so hostile towards one another. Whether you like it or not, you kids WILL be dropping what hostile tones you have towards each other, you WILL be dropping this bitter rivalry bullshit, and you WILL be getting along. This will be a valuable experience to help all of you grow for your futures anyway, learning to work together with others is a key part to being a pro hero-"
"-A future that has been taken from Kamakiri, Komori, Shishida, Tetsutetsu, Yanagi, and Rin," Itsuka said gloomily.
"Which by the way is totally one-hundred percent Class 1-A's fault," Monoma insisted.
"It's your fault for forcing our classmates to bite off more than they could chew, Monoma!" Itsuka yelled.
"Well maybe if you guys weren't sneaky cheaters who had to resort to sabotaging me and my classmates in a one-sided rivalry that you guys had started, maybe we could have been in the field by now and helped you out!" Hagakure snapped.
"It's not all of us who sabotaged you guys, Hagakure!" Yui yelled.
"But you guys sure as hell haven't done anything significant to deal with your classmates who are guilty!" Jiro yelled.
"ENOUGH!" Hizashi yelled into the air, amplifying his yelling with his quirk, in order to be heard over the arguing of the 1-A and 1-B students.
After all of the students were quiet, Aizawa said, "See, students? This is exactly what the other teachers and I were talking about. This bitter rivalry, this back and forth arguing and accusation, it HAS TO stop. Today will be the first of many days were we will work on dealing with it."
Toshinori was about to step up to stand with Aizawa, but he stopped short upon seeing the Big Three walk onto the scene out of the corner of his eye; they looked the same as always, with the exception of the fact Mirio now wore an eye-patch over his lost eye. Speaking of Mirio, he was also carrying two plastic shopping bags that looked to be filled with chocolate bars. "So like I was saying," Mirio spoke to Tamaki in a casual, conversational tone, "This eye-patch has made deciding what I'll dress up as for Halloween a lot easier for me as I can just go with dressing up as a pirate."
"And it's really made from the same special material your hero outfit's made from?" Tamaki asked, sounding a little surprised and impressed.
As Mirio nodded in the affirmative to Tamaki, Toshinori said, "Is there something we can help you with?"
"Oh All Might," Nejire began, "Mirio came here because he heard 1-A was gonna be out here. He says he wants to make a proper show of apology to them for what all went down the day he had that sparring match with them."
Rolling his eyes, Kaminari said, "You mean how he rubbed the failure forced onto us in our faces as he-"
Kaminari was cut off by a hand placed on his shoulder, making him turn to see that it was Tsuyu getting him to stop. "...I say that we hear Togata-senpai out kero."
"Thank you, Asui," Mirio said, "I've been meaning to do this anyway because I really do feel bad about how I had rub salt in the wounds you guys had at the time, and I know you girls weren't comfortable with how my clothes came off as they couldn't phase with me." As it turned out, the bags he was carrying was filled with enough milk chocolate bars for everyone in 1-A; the boys all got regular sized bars, with Tokoyami getting two as Mirio explained he was also getting a bar for his sentient quirk Dark Shadow. Speaking of, Dark Shadow popped out and approved of Mirio treating him as a separate but equal entity.
As for the girls, all of them got giant-sized bars of milk chocolate. "Yeah, I had been wanting to do something extra for the girls because of how I had made them feel uncomfortable," Mirio said, "It was never my intent to flash you or your male classmates."
Mina looked at her giant sized bar of milk chocolate before looking up at Mirio. "...This is partly related to how Asui's little brother found out and was unamused with how you had flashed his big sister, huh?"
"Not really," Mirio replied, "I was wanting to do something big to try and make a proper show of apology anyway. Although considering the vibes I got from Felgrand, I'm pegging him as a good-natured kid with a gentlemanly inclination, given his stated dislike for guys acting naughty. As such, I was originally planning on only getting xl-sized bars of chocolate for the girls, but I bumped it up to giant-sized bars, giving each girl a little extra chocolate."
"I think it's safe to say that this is an acceptable show of apology kero," Tsuyu remarked, adding that this ought to be brought to the attention of Samidare and or Satsuki the next time they're encountered in the field. The other girls in 1-A all nodded in agreement, aside from Yaoyorozu who still stood there silently, her head hanging down somewhat with the shell-shocked look on her face. She didn't even notice it when Jiro put a giant-sized bar of chocolate in her right hand.
Mirio looked at Yaoyorozu in concern. "Is... is she okay?"
Sucking in a cringing breath, Hizashi said, "It's... something bad that had been made public news, due to how big a scandal it is."
The long story made short here is that Momo Yaoyorozu is now effectively destitute. But there's a lot of details here to unpack.
Granted, a special fund was set up ahead of time when she got accepted into UA to cover all of her education, so she didn't have to worry about affording tuition and the like. But Yaoyorozu and her parents had effectively lost everything. The scandal that broke out that doomed the Yaoyorozu name was how Yaoyorozu's dad, a prominent businessman, had been accused, and then subsequently found guilty, of insider trading. Such an accusation, especially as it had been confirmed to be true, was a death sentence in the world of business.
Additionally, evidence had surfaced that Yaoyorozu's father was one of the allies of the HPSC, prior to the government sanctioned purge of the HPSC, helping them with paying off people wronged by Endeavor before his fall into villainy. Yaoyorozu's father, as he was arrested, had denied those charges, the fervor he did so with described as the kind of fervor one fighting tooth and nail to survive would fight with. He also strongly denied the charges of insider trading, but he was noted to be more forceful in how he denied the charges of paying hush money to cover pre-villainy Endeavor's tracks.
But that wasn't all; somehow, the bank account of the Yaoyorozu family had been gotten into and drained near to the point of being bone dry, leaving barely enough to cover what all fees that Yaoyorozu's parents had to shell out for in the wake of Yaoyorozu-gate (the name that Present Mic in a radio show he did gave to the scandal) breaking out. They also had to liquidate as many assets as possible, which among other things saw the loss of the mansion that Yaoyorozu's family lived in since before the girl herself had been born.
There was also an investigation into where the Yaoyorozu fortune had been drained off to. Some business experts suspect that Mr. Yaoyorozu had somehow secretly transferred the money to a separate, private account. Such a theory was considered as some suspected that Mr. Yaoyorozu would want his wife and daughter at least to continue to live well; given he was going to be going away for a very long time, Mr. Yaoyorozu wouldn't be able to enjoy such comforts himself. His own fate may be sealed by this point, but a man would still want to know his family was living well.
Luckily for the Yaoyorozus, their first bit of good luck since the 'Yaoyorozu-gate' scandal broke out occurred when a different and far more heavily considered theory was offered. The new offered theory was that the draining of the Yaoyorozu fortune was done by the villainous organization known as Dabi's Crew. They had in the past been seen having interest in getting a(n undoubtedly sizable) portion of Mr. Yaoyorozu's pocketbook, what with how they had gone through such trouble to kidnap Momo from the training camp she and her peers went to.
Additionally, Toshinori was able to provide details on Dabi's Crew member La Brava, citing how intel he got thanks to his connections he had as All Might allowed him to learn that La Brava is a tech wiz and hacker par excellence. The tech wizardry needed to hack into the accounting keeping safe the Yaoyorozu fortune was something the former Symbol of Peace believed was within the capabilities of the girl noted to be loyal to Dabi mainly because Gentle Criminal was loyal to him. As a side note, other wealthy persons took various precautions to ensure hack attacks didn't steal their wealth.
It made a lot of sense that Dabi would employ La Brava to use her tech savvy skills to just simply steal the Yaoyorozu fortune, and given that the Dabi's Crew group had fallen onto hard times since the slaying of All For One, they had reason for wanting to garner as much wealth as possible. But Dabi's Crew in the days following the loss of the Yaoyorozu fortune had made no indication that they were the ones who caused it to be lost. But they were still the top suspect in the case, and if it was them then it was likely they weren't wanting to make a show about it.
Another theory, not as likely as the Dabi's Crew theory but still plausible, was that the villainous organization headed up by the now villainous Endeavor is behind the disappearance of the Yaoyorozu fortune. Villainy can be expensive, hence why a lot of crimes villains commit center around monetary gain, and Endeavor when he went villain lost access to the vast wealth he had built up over the course of his now tarnished hero career. But his organization's members consisted of a mix of thugs from the Shie Hassaikai and sidekicks Endeavor had as a hero who followed him into villainy.
But there was no confirmation on if Endeavor had someone tech savvy enough in his fold to do what La Brava is capable of, and it seemed highly unlikely as what all confirmed followers Endeavor has right now are thugs and fallen sidekicks. As such, theory number one right now that investigators are going with is the idea that it was Dabi's Crew who had taken the Yaoyorozu fortune. However, one person involved in the investigation came up with a rather pertinent question as he learned more of the details behind the vanishing wealth.
Why was only most of the fortune drained? It was noted that a small pool of wealth was left behind by whoever had done the hack attack that had taken most of the Yaoyorozu fortune. If villains such as Dabi's Crew were behind it, why leave some behind when not only could they just as easily take all of it, but they had no reason to not do so? It was noted that Dabi's Crew were a rather hard bunch to get a true read on; they were villains to be sure, but they had also done some genuinely noble and even downright heroic actions. They even oppose the now villainous Endeavor.
It would be a riddle for the ages.
Due to the 'indefinite postponing' of the school festival, the students of UA had to focus on other things, if only to take their minds off of their disappointed annoyance with how the school festival was 'indefinitely postponed'. They lived it up as much as possible with the Halloween festivities that were permitted, even seeing Fumikage Tokoyami of Class 1-A become something of a Master of Ceremonies. Mirio Togata of the Big Three was noted to be helping with supervising the young kids brought in by some families for promised Halloween festivities.
Toshinori's wife Inko took note of how Mirio, dressed as a pirate with an eye-patch, looked to be having just as much fun as the kids he was helping to look after. Inko also took note of how Eri and Kota, dressed respectively as a witch and a ghost, had fun as Izuku and his classmates had some special games and treats set up ahead of time just for them. The Class 1-A students who were (still) wealthy pulled out all the stops, and Izuku noted how Ochaco had done the best as far as Eri was concerned with the special gourmet candied apples she had prepared.
The Class 1-A students soon waved Eri and Kota good-bye as Inko had to take them home so they could get ready for additional Halloween fun by trick-or-treating. Eri and Kota also both rubbed Ochaco's considerable belly because they said they wanted good luck to help them with trick-or-treating. Mina chuckled in amusement that her joke from a while ago still had an effect. Aside from some mild embarrassment that the very obese gravity girl felt, things went off without a hitch, and the spirits of the Class 1-A students had gone up a bit.
They needed the mental fortitude too, as on the first of November they had to go in for another one of their remedial classes at a training facility in the city so they could earn their provisional hero licences. This time saw them interacting with troublesome kids from an elementary school, and they were charged by the pro hero Gang Orca to reach out to them and help make them more agreeable so that their teachers at school could control them more easily. It was expected to be a very hard task, but it was one that Class 1-A was willing to undertake.
There was some early success, as seen with three of the girls and one of the boys who all recognized Ochaco as from the 'super building people' who had repaired their homes when they were wrecked in a hero versus villain fight that had randomly spilled into their neighborhood. At least towards Ochaco, those four kids in particular had refused to misbehave. Tsuyu also saw some success with working with some of the kids, no doubt due to the experience she had in working with Satsuki and Samidare, her own younger siblings. And Izuku also had some luck thanks to his brief working so far with Eri and Kota.
But even so, over half of the kids were still being as difficult as ever. Things eventually culminated in a rather terrible accident, however; due to not being allowed to get firm with the kids as per Gang Orca's word, Bakugo wasn't able to keep the kids from just taking his Grenade Gauntlets off of him. One girl took one of those Grenade Gauntlets despite Bakugo scolding at her to not do so, and seeing said girl fiddle around with the Grenade Gauntlet made the teachers and Gang Orca see why Bakugo warned her to NOT take or fiddle around with it.
The girl pulled the pin, causing the Grenade Gauntlet to release an explosion from its barrel due to the stored up sweat inside. It blasted right into her, sending her flying in a scene that made every last kid take pause and look at what had happened. The girl would have hit the floor hard, but she was luckily caught by Aizawa who, upon seeing the girl's condition, immediately yelled for someone to call an ambulance. The misbehaving kids, all now too scared to be bratty, were worriedly huddling around their teacher, asking if the girl who blew herself up was going to be alright.
Seeing the opportunity although he still felt bad about what happened to the girl, Bakugo walked up to the kids. "You all saw me tell your peers to not take my Grenade Gauntlets from me, didn't you?" Bakugo asked, "I told you all not to take them, told that girl to not fiddle around with it. And looked what happened. You see kids, stuff like that can happen if you continue to not keep in line and respect authority. There's a reason why your teacher is supposed to be in charge of you, there's a reason why you're supposed to listen when someone older and wiser tells you not to do something."
The kids saw it as Bakugo turned to look at it as the girl who blew herself up was loaded onto a stretcher. Turning back to face the scared kids, Bakugo with a somber expression on his face went on, "...Because we know what's best for you. We want you kids to grow up safe, we want you to succeed. But if you keep acting up and continue to be uncontrollable for your teacher and other authority figures, then disaster can happen." Gently shaking his head, Bakugo added, "We don't want that, so for your own good, unless you wanna one day end up like your classmate just now, then for the love of all that is good, please behave yourselves."
No fault from the incident ended up being laid on Bakugo. He was clearly noted to have been telling the kids not to take or mess with his Grenade Gauntlets. To be fair, Gang Orca got more blame because it was him telling Bakugo not to get firm, or use physical force to prevent the kids from acting up, that had allowed for the girl who had gone and blown herself up to get hurt. Luckily, the girl is expected to survive and make a recovery. And although it wasn't how Gang Orca had intended for it to go, the kids were now respectful and obedient due to a scary incident and being warned with a cautionary story.
"We'll be working with those kids next week at the same time," Aizawa said as he and Hizashi supervised getting Class 1-A back to UA, with Aizawa looking at the kids as Hizashi drove, "But I suspect that the kids, having been scared straight by the incident where one of their classmates was seriously hurt, will make them easier for you all to work with."
"What I'd like to know is why Bakugo brought his Grenade Gauntlets," Yaoyorozu said.
"They're part of my hero costume, Ponytail," Bakugo said, "We all had to come fully decked out, remember?"
"Why were they fully loaded?" Yaoyorozu asked.
"In case we somehow get dragged into a scrape!" Bakugo scowled back.
"Well in Bakugo's defense," Jiro spoke up, "The girl who hurt herself is going to live. And we were able to get the kids to straighten up and fly right by spinning a cautionary tale based on the girl hurting herself. It may not be as Gang Orca wanted, but the kids ARE now behaving themselves." Jiro had a point; Gang Orca didn't want the kids to behave themselves due to being too scared to act up, he wanted them to behave themselves due to respecting authority figures. But fright, as bad as it was that it was being used, was still effective at getting the job done.
Hizashi was about to speak up, but before he was able to get the words out, a blast struck the side of the bus that he, Aizawa, and all of Class 1-A were in, making the bus crash into some concrete road dividers on the highway and come to a stop. Some vehicles around the area came to a grinding halt as well, and more than a couple of civilians cried out in fright when clearly villainous persons rushed the scene and made their way right to the bus. Aizawa and Hizashi were overwhelmed before they could even fight back, and they had to stop when the villains started grabbing the students.
The entire lot of passengers on the bus was dragged out, and by the time everyone was settled, Aizawa and Hizashi recognized some of the villains as former sidekicks who had use to work at Endeavor's now long defunct hero agency. A good number of the villains who had stormed the bus were Endeavor sidekicks, and Aizawa as well as Hizashi were willing to bet the remainder of the villainous force were villainous thugs from what parts of the Shie Hassaikai that Endeavor's villainous organization had been able to shanghai.
"Here's the deal, Eraserhead and Present Mic," a male sidekick sneered, "Either of you so much as act up, and I'll give the cue to start killing students."
Glaring furiously at the sidekick, Aizawa snarled, "What do you want?"
Shrugging, the sidekick said, "Here's the deal. No matter what, there's gonna be at least one death today." The Class 1-A students all tensed up out of fright when the sidekick said that someone was going to die no matter what. "However," the sidekick went on, "If you all do as I say when I say it, then the required one death will be the only death to occur. The rest of you will be allowed to live."
"And who is it that you wanna kill?" Hizashi said, "I suspect that your boss Endeavor wants to kill Sho, he probably feels threatened by Sho's quirk."
"Actually, no," the sidekick replied, "Eraserhead is only one man, he can be taken down with sufficient numbers which Endeavor has access to by the way." To the horror of the students, the sidekick raised a finger and brought it down level to point at Izuku. "We're here to see to it that All Might's son dies," the sidekick went on, "As per Endeavor's word to see to it that All Might is finally surpassed."
Scowling, Todoroki snarled, "So even as a villain, my bastard father STILL won't give up on his mad goal of surpassing All Might. And he plans to start by having you kill Midoriya for him."
Gently shaking his head, the sidekick said, "Oh no, Shoto, none of us sent by your father will be killing All Might's son." Gesturing to Todoroki, the sidekick said, "It's a direct order from your father. YOU will be the one to kill All Might's son."
"You're going to make Todoroki kill Midoriya?" Tenya exclaimed.
As another Endeavor sidekick took out a video camera, the first one said, "It has to be done, All Might's legacy has to be brought to an end. That man has been more poison than antidote for Japan for the longest time, continues to be so despite being retired and essentially powerless. This is actually for the good of Japan, believe it or not." Turning back to look at Todoroki, the first sidekick said, "You heard me, Shoto. Your father wants you to be the one to kill All Might's son, and he also said that you have to use your fire to do it."
Todoroki glared angrily at the sidekick. "...And if my classmates and I refuse my father's deman-"
*SHUNK*
"OH MY GOD!"
Todoroki was cut off when he heard someone stabbing a knife into someone, followed by Hagakure screaming in fright; turning to look, Todoroki saw to his horror that a villainous thug recruited from the Shie Hassaikai has stabbed a knife into Koda's throat and sliced it out by pushing forward. Koda, his throat gouged out and bleeding heaving, collapsed onto the asphalt of the highway, the sight of his doomed form making most of Class 1-A cry out in alarm and freaked out tones, highlighted by how pretty much every girl was now crying.
Pointing at where Koda laid bleeding out, the first sidekick said, "THAT will be what is done do your classmates, one per every minute where you don't comply with the orders from your father. Let what was done to that boy serve as a cautionary tale advising against disobeying your father's word. So do as your father says, do your father proud. Kill All Might's boy, and you have to use your fire to do it because you do NOT want to know what your father will do if you don't."
"You monsters are insane kero!" Tsuyu yelled at the villains, "Trying to force Todoroki to kill Midoriya, stabbing Koda in the throat to warn against not satisfying Endeavor's dark, twisted demands! Is there nothing you villains won't do, no depths you won't sink to, just to get what you want?!"
Eyeing Tsuyu dangerously, the first sidekick said, "I don't like your tone, girl. And face it, the one true law of society is survival of the fittest! It's a dog eat dog world!" The sidekick then leapt towards Tsuyu, lunging at her clearly with savage, ill intent. "And with All Might no longer a factor," the first sidekick yelled, "It's now up to the individual to get what all they-"
*HUCK*
The sidekick villain was cut of when, while rushing at Tsuyu who had flinched to cover herself, someone shoved a fist into his wide open mouth. Everyone took pause and settled down when they saw that it was, of all people, Tsuyu's little brother Samidare, his fist shoved into the villain sidekick's mouth although only the young boy's left knuckles were in the villain sidekick's mouth. Samidare's cloak fluttered in the breeze that was blowing through the area as he eyed the villain sidekick who was lunging at Tsuyu, eyeing that villain sidekick with dangerous intent.
"...Oh, so if what you're saying is true," Samidare began as he had the villain sidekick's full attention, "Then the one true law of society can be boiled down to the fact that we all have only two options. Either eat or be eaten. Fair enough, that makes things easier for me to understand." Samidare's gaze at the villainous sidekick got just the slightest bit more narrow. "...Just don't complain that you wound up as one of the ones eaten rather than as one of the ones who gets to do the eating." Samidare's eyes then widened a bit with wild and savage intent as he snarled, "Desdemona!"
Blue flames from the Hellflame quirk flew from Samidare's knuckles down into the villain sidekick's throat, pumping into the villain sidekick at such volume and speed that the blue flames soon flew out of every unsealed opening that the villain sidekick had; his nostrils, his ears, even his anus and urethra. Everyone looked on in utter shocked surprise as the villain sidekick, a grown man trained to be a sidekick level pro hero, was being incinerated from the inside out by a ten-year-old boy. Even the other villains who had taken Class 1-A's bus hostage were too surprised to move.
Which made it all the easier for a swarm of Twice clones to rush in and overwhelm the minions of Endeavor, forcing as many who were able to escape as possible to flee. The minions of Endeavor especially had to flee as it wasn't just Felgrand who showed up, but also Usagi who was in her giant form. Aizawa, as he was knocked to the ground in the struggle, noted that one of the fleeing villains was Burnin, who was noted by Mirko to have been the villain she saw allowed by Samidare to flee from the Shie Hassaikai raid.
...
"I saw that villain rushing at Tsuyu with the clear intent to, at minimum, inflict grievous bodily harm," Samidare said as he floated above the rest of Dabi's Crew who came to the scene, "I refuse to apologize or feel sorry for doing what I felt necessary to protect my sister."
Aizawa, Hizashi, and some of the 1-A students looked to where the now dead villain sidekick laid on the ground, heat and smoke coming off of him. Aizawa then looked to Samidare, the only part of his face visible being his left eye as his right eye was covered by bangs and the angle he looked up at Samidare at saw the lower half of his face covered by the high collar of his long blue cloak. If it weren't for how a Twice clone had, at Spinner's direction, slapped another quirk suppressing collar around his neck, then the underground hero would have attempted to use it on the floating boy.
Mina looked towards Samidare, noted how a now untransformed Satsuki stood under him. "So... so you and your little sister are willing to kill," Mina said.
"If given sufficient reason then yes," Samidare replied, "Otherwise, if the threat level isn't enough to warrant killing but still warrant some degree of action, we'll just stick to beating up the threat."
"You kids had threatened those girls from the Uwabami hero school," Yaoyorozu said, "And you Samidare even threatened Yanagi and Togata-senpai."
"That one girl and her friends cheated to make big sis fail," Satsuki said, "And the big buff blonde boy showed his wee-wee to big sis! He was being super naughty!"
To the girls, Samidare went on, "We did get it that Mirio Togata did make a proper show of apology for his actions, however. Bars of milk chocolate for all of you, with the girls each getting really big bars."
"How is it that you know that?" Aizawa asked, getting the attention of Dabi's Crew, "Yes it's true Togata made a show of apology using chocolate, but only persons on UA campus would know that, and no-one had talked as far as I'm aware."
"That would be telling, Eraserhead," Spinner said. To the group as a whole, Spinner said, "Anyway, originally our mission here was to collect Endeavor's son and take him away so we can use him as bait in a bid to lure Endeavor himself out. But due to what all happened here, I don't think we can pull off much of anything before we are forced to leave."
Leaving Eraserhead, Present Mic, and the rest of Class 1-A be, the portion of Dabi's Crew who came on scene was preparing to leave. However, Tsuyu attempted to step forward towards Satsuki and Samidare, reaching out to her little siblings. Seeing his older sister raise a hand to try reaching out, Samidare said, "No, Tsuyu." Stopping short, the oldest Asui sibling looked up at her little brother. "...It's not time yet," went on the sole Asui brother. The villains from Dabi's Crew then took off on Samidare after he transformed into a dragon; it was only Spinner, Satsuki who wasn't transformed, the real Twice, and Nagant, so there wasn't much for the Dragon of Destruction to carry away on his back.
