Chapter 11-Building a home

A week later

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl walked into the kitchen and saw Glenn standing by the counter making coffee. "You're gonna go through that quickly," Daryl tells him.

"We have plenty," Glenn says. "It was all over this town. You want a cup?"

"Sure," Daryl says and Glenn nods as he pours a cup and holds it out to Daryl who takes it. "What are you doing, today?"

"Maggie, and I are going to start a garden and plant food. What about you?"

"Abraham is leading the run today, I'm going hunting. Haven't been able to do it since then, we got here," Daryl says. "I'm going to take Beth and see if Carl wants to come. They should know how to."

Glenn nods as Maggie and Beth come into the kitchen. "Coffee?"

"Yes," Glenn says. "Grab a cup and let's go. Rick wants to talk to everybody before we all split up."

They nod as they leave.

Rick's P.O.V

Everybody stood in the big cabin. "Back at the prison we had a council, they made all the decisions, kept things going, we had peace for two months. We're going do that here."

"Who's on it?" Sasha asks.

"If they agree, Daryl, Glenn, Lee, Octavia, Kenny, Abraham, Carol, Maggie, Beth, Clarke and I," Rick says. "Does anybody have a problem with this?" Nobody says anything and Rick nods.

"Alright, everybody knows what they are doing today, eat and let's get to work," Rick tells everybody who nods.

Abraham's P.O.V

Abraham stopped the truck inside of Scottsville. He climbed out of the truck and looked at Sasha, Oliver, Lee, Rosita, Tyreese, Amanda, Luke, Michonne, and Jane. "Alright, you know what you're looking for. Anything we can use and more supplies for the walls, tools, metal, lumbar, any of it. We need it, we'll split into groups of two. Sasha and Oliver, Lee and Rosita, Tyreese, and Amanda, Luke, and Jane and Michonne and I, we meet back here in four hours, everybody has a radio. Alright, let's get to work," Abraham says. They all nod as they split up. Abraham and Michonne walk through the street.

"How long have you been with, Rick?" Abraham asks Michonne.

"A couple of months," Michonne says. "It took me a little while to gain their trust, I gained Carl's first."

"You two are close?" Abraham asks.

"He's my best friend," Michonne tells him.

Abraham nods as they see a gunshop. "Think there is anything in there?" Abraham asks.

"Wouldn't hurt to look," Michonne says and Abraham nods as he follows her.

Noah's P.O.V

Noah sat on a bench with a notebook. "Where did you find that?" Noah looks up at Blake as she walks up to him.

"In my house. We found some uniforms there as well. I was looking at some of his plans for the outpost, ways to improve it," Noah tells her as Blake sits down beside him.

"How to improve the walls, make them stronger, build trenches around them to keep the walkers out. He had some real plans," Noah says as he looks at Blake who was smiling. "My Dad built houses. He helped build Shirewilt Estates. I learned what I could from him. I wanted to do what he did when I grew up," Noah tells her.

"Maybe you still can. Tell Eugene about these plans, make up some of your own, help make this into a community that your father would be proud of. That your family would be proud of," Blake tells him. Noah nods.

"I will."

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl let Beth and Carl through the woods. "Who taught you?" Carl asks Daryl.

"Myself," Daryl says. "You ever been hunting?"

"Once, with my Dad and Shane when I was 10," Carl says.

Daryl nods as he sees the tracks. "Come here," Daryl says. "Either of you know what this is?"

"It's a deer," Beth says as she looks at the tracks and Daryl nods. He holds the crossbow out to Beth. "Track it."

Beth nods as she takes the crossbow and begins to walk. Daryl walked with Carl as they followed the blond. "Why did you bring me? I know why you brought Beth, you were already teaching her. But why bring me?" Carl asks Daryl.

"You need to know this stuff, Carl. One day, I'm going to be dead. Beth, Maggie, Glenn, Shane, Rick and I are going to be gone and you're gonna be leading our people. I know it, you need to know everything. I brought you out here to prepare you for that day…to make sure that what happened to Sophia never happens to you."

Carl doesn't say anything as he continues to follow Beth.

Rick's P.O.V

Rick and Shane put a piece of metal. "Remember when we were 17 and we were helping Mr. Wolf build a house?" Shane asks him.

"I remember him catching you sleeping with his daughter and you running into the cornfield," Rick says making Shane chuckle. "He looked for you the rest of the day."

"Bastard didn't even pay me for what I did do," Shane says, making Rick laugh.

"You boys having fun?" They turn and look at Octavia as she walks up to them.

"Just trading old war stories," Rick says.

"Stories that you will never hear about," Shane tells her.

"Is there a problem, aren't you and Clarke working on the east wall?" Rick asks.

"I was hoping you could take over for me. Mike said he'd take over for you. Bonnie is gonna help me finish setting up the infirmary," Octavia tells Rick who nods.

"Alright," Rick says as Mike comes over to them. Rick walks away from them.

Shane's P.O.V

Ten months ago

Shane sat at a table staring at a map. "What are you thinking?" Theo asks as he walks up to him.

"I might know a place we can stay for a little while," Shane says.

"You might?" Octavia asks as she comes into the room.

"Yeah, the place I was at before Dawn took me. The night I got stabbed, a herd went through it, I don't know who made it out, or what happened, but if that herd moved on. We might be able to stay there for a couple of weeks."

"We aren't risking the entire group," Octavia says. "How far is this place?"

"Three hours," Shane answers.

"We'll go," Octavia says. "The rest will stay here with Blake. We leave in ten minutes."

Shane nods as Octavia walks away and Theo pats his shoulder. "Good luck, man."

Rosita's P.O.V

Rosita and Lee searched for a pawn shop. "How did you find Clementine? You should have been on your way to jail," Rosita says.

"I was waiting for one of you to mention that," Lee says. "I'm surprised you know, aren't you from Texas?"

"I am, but it was all over the news and the internet," Rosita says. "Don't worry, I don't think you're a bad person because of it. We've all changed since the end of the world, some of us for the better."

Lee nods. "I was on my way to prison; a walker came in front of the car and we went off the road. I hurt my leg really bad, but I got out, got the keys to the handcuff and the officer turned, I killed him and when I went up a hill, I climbed a fence and I was in Clementine's yard," Lee tells her. Rosita nods as she breaks a display case and pulls a sword out. Lee smirks. "Should work well."

"It will." Rosita says as she puts it on her hip. "Let's keep going."

Noah's P.O.V

Noah walked up to Eugene as the man talked with Theo who was helping him with building the wall. "Eugene," Noah says making Eugene look at him. "I wanna show you something," Noah says as he holds the journal out to Eugene who takes it and begins to look through it.

Eugene glances at Noah and holds the notebook back out to him. "They are good ideas, wielding pipes to the walls could stop walkers from hitting it."

"It could also make it easier for people to get over them."

"I thought about that," Noah says. "We could line the wall with barbed wire, and set up some sort of trip wire, if someone does try and get over the wall we'll know."

"What else?" Theo asks.

"We could build a trench around the place, and a spike wall in front of that, make it harder for walkers and people," Noah tells him. "It's all here."

Theo looks at the notebook and takes it. After looking at it he hands it back to Noah. "Alright, kid, let's see what we can do."

Beth's P.O.V

Beth walked up to Maggie. "How'd it go out there?" Maggie asks her sister.

"Good, I got a deer and Carl got a rabbit, Daryl is showing him how to gut them," Beth tells her. "Where's Glenn?"

"Getting more seeds," Maggie tells her. "This place could be what Daddy wanted the prison to be, we can make his dream come true."

"We will. Maybe someday you and Glenn will have a family here, I'll could be an aunt."

"You could have a family too," Maggie says.

"Someday I will," Beth tells her. "This place needs a name."

Maggie smiles as she looks around. "Eden," Maggie says. Beth looks at her and smiles.

"Eden."

Clarke's P.O.V

Clarke walked outside that night and looked at Octavia who was sitting on the steps staring at the stars. "What's going on with you?" Clarke asks her sister. "You've been quiet for two days. Even Blake is starting to notice something is wrong."

"I'm pregnant," Octavia tells her. Clarke looks at her in shock and sits down beside her.

"How long?"

"I found out in Shirewilt," Octavia says. "I've been coming to terms with it and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to deal with this."

"Are you going to have it?"

"I want to," Octavia says. "I know Shane will want me too, but we don't know what is going to happen to this place. I can't have a baby on the road if this place falls," Clarke sighs as she wraps her arm around her sister. Octavia lays her head on her shoulder. "I'm scared."

"I know," Clarke says as she kisses her head. "You'll be okay."

Shane's P.O.V

Ten months ago

Shane stopped in front of the gates to the farm. He stared at the gate for a moment. "Are you sure you can do this?"

"I have to," Shane says. "For you guys and I need to know," Shane says as he climbs up to the gate and unlocks it. He then walks back to the car and starts to drive down the driveway.

Morgan's P.O.V

Morgan Jones pushes the doors to a church open and walks inside. He looks around the church as he walks up to the alter. He stops when he sees a map on the alter. He grabs the map and stares at the note written on it. "Morgan, is it clear?" Morgan looks at the door and see two men waiting for him.

"Yeah," Morgan says as he looks at his friends and motions them over. "Morales, look at this," Morgan says as he holds the map out to Morales who grabs it.

"Rick? He's alive," Morales says.

"I guess I know where we are going," Eastman says. "We're going to find Rick Grimes."
