The Ghost Boy and The Super Girl
Chapter 27: Home Again
"I can't believe it. After all this time. I'm back..."Danny said, looking thrilled.
That is when some familiar faces spotted him.
"Danny!..."Was heard.
"There you are!..."Sam shouted as she, Jazz and Tucker ran to him.
"GUYS?!..."Danny exclaimed, unable to believe that it was them.
"We've been looking everywhere for you. Where on Earth did you go?!..."Jazz scolded.
However, Danny was smiling wide and immediately bear hugged his big sister and his two best friends all at once, much to their shock.
"JAZZ, IT'S YOU! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!..."Danny said, as he ran and pulled her into a hug.
Jazz was taken back by this reaction, as were Sam and Tucker as the ghost boy kept hugging his sister like he hasn't seen her in a long time.
"Uh...Danny?..."Sam said before she and Tucker were both yanked into a hug too.
"Don't think that I forgot about either of you two! Come here, you guys!..."Danny said enthusiastically, as he nearly squeezed the life out of them.
"Whoa there, big guy! Back up! Goths do not do surprise emotional group hugs..."Sam said, as she dislodged herself from his hug.
"Okay, Dude...we get it. Something crazy must have happened when you vanished into thin air...but...choking...not...breathing!..."Tucker said, turning a bit blue from the hug.
Jazz, on the other hand, was just confused since it had been a long time since her little brother hugged her like this.
"Okay...I'll let you guys go now. You have no idea how happy I am to finally be home..."Danny said, smiling like he's never smiled before.
Jazz, Sam and Tucker were surprised by Danny's reaction.
"Dude, what happened to you?..."Tucker asked.
"And why are you acting like you haven't seen us in forever?..."Jazz asked.
"It kinda felt that way to me. More like a few days, but it felt like it..."Danny said as he explained.
He felt like his whole adventure in another dimension took up about 5 years of his life or so. But he figured that it must have been the stress of the possibility of never coming back home that made him think that time stood still for that long.
His friends and sister were more confused now.
"What are you talking about? You've only been missing for a few hours..."Tucker said.
Hearing that caught his attention.
"Was it really that long here? It was almost a week for me..."Danny explained.
"Wait? What? A week?!..."Tucker asked, surprised to hear that.
Before they could ask what he meant, someone else spotted him.
Danny saw his parents arrive to the area. His parents saw him and were ready to scold him for technically being late for curfew and not answering their phone calls.
"There he is!..."Jack said as he and his wife approached them, looking angry about something.
"Daniel Fenton, you're late again!..."Maddie scolded like any angry mother would.
"It's bad enough you're late, but you didn't even answer our calls! Do you have any idea how worried we were?! We were this close to get the RV and see if you were captured by ghosts! Young man, what do you have to say for yourself?!..."Jack said, sounding angry.
However, Danny was just all too happy to see his parents again after so long, that he didn't mind their scolding.
He almost missed hearing his folks ground him for coming home passed curfew. But deep down, Danny was also hoping that he wouldn't get grounded after everything he went through.
He still smiled and the ghost boy was extremely grateful to his new superhero friends from another dimension that brought him back home to his family and friends.
"I am so glad to see you guys too..." He said, thankful that his family and friends had been safe and sound during his absence.
The ghost boy soon hugged both his parents and shocked them both into silence and confusion.
Despite the bewildered expressions on his parent's faces, Danny went inside his house, looking at the inside with an almost nostalgic look on his face.
"Wow, it's so great to be back home. I even miss how the Ops Center makes my house stand out..."He said while his sister and friends went inside with him.
"Danny, seriously? What happened?..."Jazz asked.
"I'll explain later. I'm just...really glad to be home now..."Danny said, still leaving everyone around him bewildered.
However, his sister and friends had so much to asked about Danny's latest solo adventure and they were ready to get every piece of information out of him.
"Oh, I have a bad feeling about this. As if I'm not going to like what he's going to reveal."..." Sam thought.
Little did the goth girl, that she was going to be proven right about her suspicions...and find competition from another universe.
Later
Danny was in his room, with his sister and his friends.
After his parents snapped out of it, they lectured him about needing to be more careful but surprisingly left it at that. Though, he would have an earlier curfew for this week as punishment for worrying them but Danny figured it could be worse.
Now, he was alone in his room with his friends and sister.
Since Sam and Tucker made excuses with their own parents and said they'd be spending the night at the other's place, they had no reason to go home, not that they wanted to go home due to the circumstances.
Now, they were listening to Danny's latest misadventure.
He told them all about his latest adventure on a completely different Earth and all that he been through in that alternate dimension, and how, after so long, he was finally able to make it back home.
"And that's what happened. Dr. Fate did something that involved magic that I clearly don't understand to send me home..."Danny said.
Jazz, Sam and Tucker were shocked and tried to process everything that they all just heard.
Needless to say, this was their reactions.
"Wow..."Tucker went.
"Yeah..."Jazz said, who wanted to ask some questions about what she just heard but a certain goth girl beat her to it.
"Let me get this straight...you were fighting Skulker...one of his gadgets goofed and it ended with you ending up in another alternate universe...where you met some other superheroes and they helped you get back home...and you also want to their headquarters, which is also in SPACE! And you trained with these heroes and fought alongside them?!..." Sam said, finding the last two parts to being the most outrageous fact from his explanation.
"Yeah, that's about the abridged version of it..."Danny said.
Jazz, Tucker and Sam were slacked jawed from his story, still having trouble processing all of this.
"Just as Tucker said...wow..." Sam said, still at a loss for words.
"Not only that...I was there for days but according to you guys, I was gone for just a few hours. I still don't understand how that works but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth...especially since that horse resulted in me just needing to be home by nine for a week...which again, is still not as bad as I was expecting to be honest..." He said.
"Uh...sure..." Sam said, not sure how to respond to that.
"Was their headquarters really in space?!.." Tucker asked, excited.
"Yeah, it was like being on the space station...but one for Superheroes with training robots and weapons from all across the galaxy. It was awesome!..." Danny said, still glad he had that experience.
"Dude, I would have loved to see that place and all those high tech gadgets you saw!..." Tucker said. "No doubt that would put anything Vlad has to shame!..." He said, imaging the kind of tech that Danny just described.
"Most likely..." Danny chuckled.
He definitely was going to remember his time in the watch tower fondly for as long as he lived...as long as the person who made his return home possible.
"I'd never would have been able to get home if it wasn't for Kara..."Danny said.
"Kara?..."Sam asked, raising a brow over the girl's name. "Who or what is Kara?..." She asked, almost suspicious right now.
Danny then felt his expression soften after thinking about Kara. He smiled fondly as he spoke about her.
"She was a friend that I made when I was there..." Danny said, sporting a noticeable blush on his face.
"A...friend, huh?..."Sam said, not sure she like how that sounded.
Jazz noticed the goth's reaction, but remained silent as she was also curious about her little brother's new friend that he made another Universe.
One of them, however, had another thought in mind.
"Was she cute?..."Tucker asked, interested in what she looked like.
"Really cute. And that's putting it mildly..."Danny said, unaware of the reaction from Sam.
"Oh now I know, I'm definitely not liking what I'm hearing!..." She thought enviously.
Danny didn't notice, as he kept thinking of his friend from the other dimension.
The ghost boy remembers Kara in her Supergirl outfit and blushed a deep shade of red. He also recalled that in her dimension, her superhero alter ego is still a secret and Danny knew all too well how precious a secret identity is to a fellow superhero.
So, the ghost boy decided not to tell his friend or his sister about any and all of the secret identities of any of the Justice League members that he knew about. Especially Kara's.
"That's something I'll keep to myself..." He thought, wanting to honor the trust and bond he gained with Supergirl and his other allies from that world.
Danny pressed his hand on his wrist and clang to his bracelet as he could almost see Kara in that iconic S symbol. The ghost boy could picture Kara perfectly in his mind as she was standing right in front of him.
That same smile filled him with joy and sadness.
"Danny?!..."Sam asked, snapping the ghost boy from his thoughts.
"Oh, uh...what?..." Danny asked.
"Sorry, I was thinking about...Supergirl..." He said.
"Supergirl?..." Sam asked, not liking the sound of that name too.
"Who is she?..." Jazz asked, while her brother smiled.
"Supergirl is a superhero. She's this super cool alien who can fly, shoot lasers from her eyes, is super strong and way more durable than bulletproof. Not surprising for an alien..."Danny said, keeping the identity a secret since he did make a promise to Kara.
"An alien? I find that a bit hard to believe..." Jazz asked skeptically.
It was true the of the Fenton children were much more extraordinary and supernatural than most people in Amity Park. Aliens were just ironically uncommon for them.
However, her brother sent her a flat look.
"This is coming from the girl that has ghost hunters as parents, has a half ghost for a brother and a literal portal to a ghostly dimension in her basement..." Danny snarked. "Are aliens really that difficult to believe?..." He asked.
His sister thought about it and sighed.
"Ok, point taken..." The redhead relented.
"Anyway, She's a Argonian and it's thanks to her I was able to get in touch with Dr. Fate and helped get me home..." Danny explained, thankful that he met her.
"Well, that was nice of her..." Jazz commented.
"Yeah...Nice..." Sam said darkly, while getting an eye roll from the redheaded Fenton.
It was then that Tucker asked the question that he felt was the most crucial detail to clarify.
"So...is Supergirl cute too?..."Tucker asked, interested in knowing.
"She is...She's in a league all of her own. So beautiful that angels wish that they looked like her..."Danny said, slightly daydreaming about Kara/Supergirl.
"For real?..."Tucker asked, impressed.
"For real..." Danny nodded, surprising his male friend.
"She makes Paulina look like a soaked cat..."He added, surprising even Sam with that comment.
"Wow...now I really wish that we were there with you..." Tucker said.
Sam didn't look happy about this at all, but then noticed a somber look on his face.
"But just my luck...it's not like I'll ever be able to see her again since I'm pretty sure this was a one-way trip..."He said, looking down in the dumps.
Hearing this made the others gaze at each other then give their friend/brother a sympathetic look.
"Oh...uh...that's rough. I guess that's kind of a bittersweet memory to look back on, huh?..."Sam said, not sure how else to respond than that.
"Sorry to hear that, Dude..." Tucker responded sympathetically.
"Look on the bright side, little brother... At least you got to go to space in another universe. That's pretty coo..l." Jazz said, in a slightly desperate attempt to lighten up Danny's mood.
Thankfully it did, but only a slight bit.
"So, don't leave us hanging? What else happened never you were in that totally SUPER cool superhero space station?..." Tucker asked, wanting to know more.
Danny then want into great detail of his experience out in space, inside a spaceship and a space station called the Watchtower.
Once he was done, Sam had a question of her own.
"So...aside from Kara and Supergirl..."Sam said the names with disdain, not that Danny noticed but Jazz and Tucker did, which made them roll their eyes." Who else did you met?..." The goth girl asked.
"Oh I've met all sorts of different superheroes in that other universe..." Danny said, until he remembered that there were way too many superheroes he meet in Kara's dimension.
"Too many for me to mention every single one of them, to be honest. So if it's alright with you guys, do you mind if I only mention the ones that I personally got to know?..." Danny asked as a compromise, which his sister and friends agreed to with a nod of their heads.
That is, until the ghost boy's friend in a red fedora interrupted him with a burning question of his own.
"So...uh...Did meet any other aliens or maybe some robot, or even normal humans in robots suits?..."Tucker asked, sounding a bit excited to hear the answer.
The ghost boy smiled, since he did leave out and skipped some greater details about his time on another Earth in a different dimension... especially about all the other people he met there, the good and the bad ones.
Danny then want into great detail of his experience out in space, inside a spaceship and a space station called the Watchtower.
A little later
"...And that's how the Justice League and I managed to deal with that alien biker bounty hunter..." Danny finish explaining the battle with Lobo in space.
The ghost boy was expecting the others to look shocked or amazed by that part of the story, but was met with some slight disappointed faces. Danny's friends and sister had really mixed feelings about hearing this part of his story and most of it wasn't all that good either.
""What?..."Danny said, not anticipating this type of reaction.
"Dude, if you're gonna lie to us or make-up something random and uneventful to make your story sound cooler, then the least you can do is not make the fight with an alien in space sound less epic than demonstrating your powers by practicing a couple of training robots..."Tucker critiqued as his tone of voice suggested that he was let down by the Lobo fight of Danny's story.
"Hey, those training robots were no joke. I almost had to used some of my best moves on the tougher ones like that big gorilla and cheetah lady robots..." The ghost boy commented.
"I think that's the point that Tucker's trying to make, Danny..." Jazz said as she too wasn't that entertained by the space alien fight either. "You gave such a lengthy and greatly detailed fight with those training bots that it felt like we could actually see what you experienced in those fights. But the fight with lowbrow-..."
"Lobo..." The ghost boy corrected.
"Don't care.".. The unamused big sister quickly responded before resuming what she was saying.
"But the fight with that space biker alien bounty hunter was just so brief in comparison to all the other fights you had in that other universe, that it simply didn't meet any high expectations of it. Jazz finished explaining.
"Plus, it really doesn't help that right before you even mention that this Lubo guy was attacked the headquarters. Your ghost sense went off and you told us to wait here for you until you got rid of the ghost yourself. While we all waited around your room for like, a few years for you to continue that part of the story!..."Sam added.
"I was was only gone for like 20 minutes at least!..." The ghost boy corrected.
"Well it felt way longer for us..."Sam said, sounding irritated.
Danny wasn't sure how to respond to all of their criticism.
"Well, its not my fault that he was kinda tipsy. According to Supergirl, he usually is suppose to be tougher..." He explained, while the other teens didn't seem satisfied.
"Whatever..." He said.
The ghost boy decided to shift gears and change the topic back about all of the other superheroes he meet in the other dimension, hoping that his friends and sister will let the previous topic go.
This part of Danny's story had the complete opposite reaction, since Jazz, Sam and Tucker had a lot to ask him about all the heroes he met in the other dimension, making it to the ghost boy that their respective interests have been peaked.
"Well, I also got to go on my very Justice League mission with some superhero that were closer to my age. Like Speedy. Although he kept insisting that his hero name was Red Arrow, but a lot of the other superheroes kept coming him Speedy, especially Green Arrow, who I think might have been mentor..." Danny said.
"Actually, now that I really think about it, I think Speedy is a lot more closer to Jazz's age than me..." Danny said, getting her attention.
"Really? Tell me more..." Jazz said as the others wanted to hear about some other superheroes that Danny met in the other universe too.
"Well, I also met this other girl that goes by Stargirl..." Danny replied obviously. "And she was a total mystery..." He said.
"What do you mean?..."Jazz asked.
"It was pretty weird. One time she wanted to break me in half and the next she gave me a hug before I left for home..." He said, still not getting it.
"Really, Dude?..."Tucker asked, while the girls looked surprised to hear this.
"That's a bit unusual..." Jazz said, rubbing her chin, the psychologist in her already thinking about of the many reasons for this behavior.
Though she had her suspicions, she kept them quiet for now. Sam however was just about ready to break something and got annoyed for some reason.
"OK! Enough about these other superhero girls! Tell us about the other heroes you met!..." She said, sounding impatient.
Danny didn't notice the contempt in the Goth's voice, but he complied and told his friends and sister about the members of the Justice League.
"Okay, well, Superman is Supergirl's mentor, I guess and he is kinda the league's leader. He is also called the "Man of Steel"...and lets just say that he really lives up to his name...and he is pretty protective of Supergirl..." He said, recalling past instances with the man of steel.
"For real?..." Sam asked.
Danny nodded.
"He can fly, he is super strong and with laser eyes, he is faster than a speeding bullet and is super durable against them too. He is also way more ripped than Dash...and can get scary if he thinks you're a bad guy..."He said, recalling that hit when they first met.
Danny continued telling them everything he recalled about the league's founders.
Tucker had a fanboy attack when Danny revealed the amount of gadgets Batman had, he also kept asking question after question about Wonder Woman, which of course annoyed his female friend.
Jazz had her own questions about Martian Man hunter and was amazed that he was actually an alien from Mars, all the while, Sam made sure to not bring the conversation back to Kara or Supergirl simply asked about the likes of the Batman or Green Lantern, the Goth was particularly curious about the ring and how it worked.
"So, that lantern ring...Does it come in black?..." She wondered.
Everyone else groaned by her question, something she has asked quite frequently when she comes across something she doesn't like anything or something in a particular color.
Danny made a face when he heard that, having recalled a certain piece of information that he overheard.
"I wouldn't recommend the Black Lantern ring, from what the Green Lantern briefly mentioned about it...is that it is basically a ring that turn people you've killed into your zombie-like minions..." Danny said, getting unsettled reactions from the others.
"That just sounds SUPER creepy..."Tucker said, creeped out from what he heard.
"Why is that even a thing?..." Jazz asked, not seeing how that would benefit anyone.
"Dunno..." Danny said with a shrug.
Meanwhile, Sam looked to be second guessing her request.
"I'm a little on the fence with that ring now..."Sam said, getting looks from the others.
"On the fence? Don't you mean against?..."Tucker asked, sending her a look.
As Jazz gave a disapproving look, Sam just shrugged.
"It's a Goth thing..."She said, still trying to justify her adoration with all thing dark and gloomy.
"Same old Sam..."Danny thought, almost amused as he continued his story telling.
He eventually got to a part about his closest friend in that world.
"...And then Supergirl and managed to stop that speeding car from hurting any unsuspecting citizens without so much as breaking a sweat. It was awesome. She was awesome..." Danny said as he felt a bittersweet emotion as he thought about Kara.
He felt some saddened at the fact that he won't get to see her again.
He was sad that he wouldn't get to see beautiful face anymore.
"I miss her already..." He thought sadly.
He occasionally stares off into space towards his bedroom window as he continued to share some stories if his solo adventures in another dimension filled with superheroes with his sister and friends.
Later that night
Danny was in his room, laying on his bed.
He was staring at his ceiling, a pensive look was on his face as he felt a mixture of emotions.
He was happy and relieved to finally be home, where he belongs...but he also felt like a part of him was still left behind back in Kara's dimension.
Unsurprisingly he began to miss Kara, and even though he's happy to see Sam, Jazz and Tucker, he felt sort of alone without the other superhero friends he made over the last few days in the other dimension.
His thoughts began to wander as faces of his leaguer friend appeared in his mind. Like Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Hawk Girl, Green Lantern, S.T.R.I.P.E., Red Arrow aka Speedy, Star Girl and especially Supergirl.
Sure, Danny didn't know all of them for too long, but each and every one of them left an imprint on him. Especially Supergirl, who he was starting to really get to know and wanted to know more about.
"Kara..." He thought sadly.
"Really wish that I could see her again..."He thought, before glancing at something that was still on his arm.
It was Kara's present, the bracelet that she gifted him before he was sent back home. The ghost boy never once took his new lucky bracelet off and didn't plan too either.
"This is never leaving my sight..." He whispered, as he stared at it.
Danny held on tightly to his bracelet close to his chest, since it's the only thing that reminds him of his time in another Earth in a different dimension, especially Kara.
He really missed her.
He kept thinking about her beauty...her kindness...her fun personality...her words of encouragement... her overall presence.
All of it would be missed.
Danny tried to come to terms and accept his this reality of his, but the empty feeling in his chest simply won't let him.
And if he was being truly honest with himself, he didn't want to accept this either... but the ghost boy wasn't sure how or if he even can somehow visit Kara in her dimension again.
This thought stayed with the ghost boy throughout the rest of the night. Before he fell asleep, this popped into his mind.
"I wonder what she's doing right now..." Danny said as he tried to sleep.
All the while, he starting dreaming about what it would his life would be like if he decided to stay in that universe instead.
Danny even wondered if he, Kara and some of the other younger members of the Justice League could start there own team or maybe a branch of younger leaguers to handle all the crimes, dangers and trouble happening within towns and cities.
"We'd call ourselves... the Teen... Troopers. Hmm... no, that's stupid. I'll workshop it..." He said before drifting to sleep.
Meanwhile
In Supergirl's dimension
Kara was still in her Supergirl getup.
She was in the watch tower, doing her superhero and Justice League duties. However, she had a depressed look on her face as she wondered if Danny got home safe and sound.
She also wondered what he may be up to.
"I just hope that Danny is okay...and I hope he's not in any immediate danger..." She thought, looking down.
She then shook her head.
"Dr. Fate said everything went well. He hasn't been wrong about that before..." She thought.
She trusted Dr. Fate's word...but a part of her was sad at the thought of never seeing the ghost boy again.
However, she convinced herself that this was for the best.
Even so, she couldn't get the ghost boy out of her mind and unknown to her, she wasn't the only one either.
Even if she refused to admit it, Star Girl missed Danny too and it showed with her recent results in her training. She kept getting distracted during her sparring matches and seemed to be in an even more sour mood than usual.
And that's saying something.
"Unbelievable!..." Star girl grumbled, as she walked away from the training room and pretended to ignore Super girl's presence.
Courtney was disappointed in her lack of improvements she made in her training, but her step-dad suggested that she take a day off training to clear her head and work on whatever is troubling her.
Star Girl got a little frustrated by her his advice and stormed out of the training room. She didn't want to head home yet, so she decided to tag along on a Justice League mission after she get cleaned up first.
"Ugh! When is he gonna get off my back?! There is nothing wrong me! I don't need time off!..." She muttered, being stubborn.
That is when she ran into Super girl again.
Star Girl simply said nothing as she and Supergirl walked past each other, as if she was avoiding herv. Star girl didn't even make eye contact as both blonde heroines went their respective ways.
Kara noticed this and frowned.
"I see she is still as "friendly" as ever. Whatever, I don't have the energy to deal with her again.."Supergirl thought.
"Stupid Supergirl...why did she have to get so close to him and get so friendly with him before he left?! Ugh! What's wrong with me ?! And why can't I stop thinking about that?! About him?!..."She thought, trying to get her mind off of Danny.
That, and being anywhere around Supergirl wasn't helpful for her.
Kara didn't know or care as she went to her room in the Watch Tower to take a break and calm down.
In Super girl's room
As Kara walked over to her room, she felt as if maybe a quick power nap may help.
As soon as she turned on the lights, she noticed something in her bed...something she wasn't sure of what it was.
"Huh? What is this?..." Kara asked, as she saw what looked to be some sort of medallion.
Supergirl got closer to the artifact with mild apprehension, because despite looking harmless, she has learned long ago never to keep her guard down.
Kara briefly used her X-Ray vision to make sure it wasn't a destructive device of some sort. Once she appraised it and was satisfied that the artifact didn't seem harmful, she grabbed it, noticing the letters "CW" in what she could only assume was a necklace.
"CW?..." She asked out loud in confusion. "What does it mean?..."She wondered out loud.
Supergirl then turned the necklace around, hoping to find any sort of clue as to who or what may have left this thing behind.
"Don't leave this behind, Kara..." She read the engraved words. "This may come in use sooner than you might expect..."
Supergirl was understandably confused and the only thing that came to her mind was the following.
"Who left me this?..." She asked outloud.
She had wondered if she should ask Doctor Fate if he left this for her. However, she decided she'll find out later. Right now, she just wanted to take a quick nap, finish work and then go home.
The blonde heroine wasn't too sure why, but she decided to keep the trinket with her for the time being.
"This place has top notch security and there was no alarms going off. One of the other members of the league must have left it. I'll ask later..."She thought, not seeing the medallion as dangerous.
Once Kara has some free time to spare, she'll find someone to identify what this necklace is and find out who left it for her.
Kara placed it on a nearby table and took her power nap, not sensing anything dangerous right now.
Unknown to the Girl of Steel, the medallion with the CW icon on it's side shined a faint light blue glimmer, one that she did not notice due to resting right now.
It would seem that fate had plans for her and Danny, plans that were not over yet.
