The Third Okumura
This is my story on Blue Exorcist, this is happening in the first season and the Kyoto arc didn't happen. I hope you all enjoy.
Hana was officially pissed at Yukio; letting Rin get in this bad of a state was unforgivable. So there she stood outside of his classroom waiting for him to finish, and it wasn't long before Yukio walked right out of the room and into her waiting fist. Hana laid her middle brother out flat before waiting until he asked her what was wrong.
"Yukio Okumura; our father would be ashamed of you...you seem to have forgotten that you are Rin's twin brother and also a son of Satan." Hana said loud and clear, so that all of his students could hear her.
"It's nice to see you too, Hana," Yukio said, fixing his glasses before pulling himself up onto his feet. She had just punched him in the nose, and yet he was acting as if nothing had happened.
"Rin." She growled at her middle brother while pointing at their older brother. Hana thought that Yukio might need to get his eyes checked again, when Yukio turned to look at their brother; eyes wide.
"What about Rin, Hana?" Yukio asked, looking between his older brother and their little sister. Hana was about ready to beat the living crap out of Yukio when Rin stopped her. Then again, it might have been because Hana hadn't told Yukio what had been going on lately.
"Hana stop…just stop…I'm fine…" Rin said turning his head away as he started coughing lightly at first before it got worse, and right away Hana could tell that something wrong, because everyone know that half demons had a much stronger immune system than regular humans, but what worried Hana was that she had only ever seen Rin like this once before. Rin had never been the type to just let someone turn a blind eye if something was wrong, especially when it was either Yukio or herself. She quickly shared a looked with Yukio who had finally taken the blindfold he had been wearing off to see the state that their brother was in. Hana took a step towards Rin, only for him to take a step back out of fear. Hana had only seen Rin this bad once before, in the ten years since she become their family that was the darkest time for them, when Rin gave up the will to live. Right away Hana could tell that Rin was back in that bottomless pit with no hope of getting out.
"Rin," Hana said, holding out her hand to her brother. Only for him to look away, clearly too ashamed of how far he had fallen again. Yukio put his hand on her shoulder, concerned.
"Rin… when was the last time that you ate something?" Yukio asked, taking a step towards her twin. It took a few seconds before Rin answered, and right away she knew that he had been lying; it didn't take a brain surgeon to see that.
"I ate this morning before you got up Yukio." Rin said his eyes darting around the room not meeting anyone's else.
"Then how come there were no dishes in the sink this morning? And you can't say that you already did them because when I came down you were cooking, actually why were you up before me; you have never been a big morning person." Yukio said taking another step closer to their brother, which caused Rin to take another step back, which led to him running into the desk behind. Behind the desk stood, a punk-like teen, who Rin had said was called, Ryuji Suguro, was waiting to pin her brother down.
"Okumura, you idiot, what have you done this time?" Suguro said as he forced the trembling boy into a chair, not fully understanding that by doing so he had just made the situation a whole lot worse. Rin's face went blank, showing no emotion; his eyes dulling. Hana was about to say something, but then Suguro started shaking the visibly sick and terrified boy. Hana pulled her spear charm off of the silver chain bracelet on her left wrist, and flashed behind Suguro to press the point of her spear against his back, her silver and green flames dancing lightly over her body and spear. The other Exwires gasped at the sight of her.
"I recommend that you let go of my oldest brother if you know what is good, Senpai," Hana said as she pressed the tip of her spear into his back; not enough to break skin, but enough to cause pressure. She kept her spear there until Suguro held his hands up in surrender.
"Hana, it's okay, so you can put your spear away," Yukio said, placing his hand on the desk in front of Rin. Hana sighed before letting her spear shrink back down to the size of a charm before reattaching it to the silver chain around her left wrist; Hana then pulled Rin's bag off of the ground where it had fallen when Suguro-senpai had grabbed her brother's shoulders. Hana had to check to see if he had at least been drinking something, but the water bottle she had made for each of the twins on their last birthday was nowhere to be found.
"Yukio it's not here. Okay everyone leave the room, but someone be ready outside because Rin is going to try running." Hana said sitting down in the chair next to Rin, and waited until everyone had left the room before she pulled out the smelling salts that she kept in her bag for just these occasions. Hana opened the small bottle, scrunching up her nose at the sharp pungent smell that penetrated her nostrils, Hana held the horrible thing under Rin's nose; making him come back to his senses. Rin knowing that Hana wasn't the best at physical activities, such as running, so Rin jumped over the desk and ran out the door; only for him to be pushed back by Suguro and Yukio.
"Okay let's try this again Rin. When was the last time you ate something?" Yukio said, pushing their brother back towards his chair, next to where Hana was waiting. She grabbed her brother's hand and pulled him back into his seat, while looking up at him with her big brown eyes.
"I told you I ate this morning before you got up Yukio; you believe me right Hana?" Rin said his eyes darting around the room again, which to Hana and Yukio meant that Rin was lying.
"Rin…look at me, now tell me honestly when was the last time you ate something?" Hana asked grabbing his hand and chin forcing him to look at her, Rin just broke down crying, clearly at his limit.
"Not for six months, I'm so sorry Hana. I know I should have reached out to you when I stopped eating again, but that was the only way I could make myself pay for what happened with the old man…" Rin said leaning his head onto her shoulder crying. Hana looked up at her brother's classmates to see their shock, had they not known that Rin lacked self-confidence which had led on more than one occasion to some very nasty eating problems. By this they meant that Rin would withdraw his right to eat when he got in trouble or if someone blamed something on him, it was more the latter than the former.
"Who told you that it was your fault that Dad died?" Hana asked, wrapping her arms around her brother, looking right at the person who had done it. The whole time Yukio refused to meet his sister's eyes as he knew that she would want to kill him for everything that he had said or done to Rin. She might have been the youngest, but she was just as protective of her brothers, sometimes even more so than Rin.
"Yukio, but I know he didn't mean it. He had been hurt…but I really did kill the old man. If we hadn't gotten into that fight then he would still be here. Not just that, it's my fault that everything happened on the blue night, so many people died because of me…" Rin said before coughing harshly the whole time crying in his little sister's shoulder. Hana wrapped her arms tighter around her brother, tears falling from her eyes as she stared right at the people that had corrupted her sweet loving older brother, but Hana shouldn't have been surprised seeing as it was always the people that didn't understand that caused the deepest wounds, the ones that never healed. She took a deep breath held it for a second before she started singing. Her brother's sobs fueling her resolve to cheer Rin up.
"Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy
Has come to make you new;
This Child that you delivered
Will soon deliver you?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know that your baby boy
Has walked where angels trod,
And when you kiss your little baby
You've kissed the face of God?
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see, the deaf will hear,
The dead will live again,
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb!
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Is Lord all creation?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Will one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy
Was Heaven's perfect Lamb,
And the sleeping Child you're holding
Is the great, the Great I AM?
Oh, Mary, Mary, did you know?" Hana sang her brother's favorite hymn, closing her eyes halfway through the song, not wanting to see the people who had hurt her sweet, lovable brother. By the time Hana had finished, Rin was sleeping, his head resting on her shoulder. His eyes were red and puffy from all the crying he had done. Hana looked over at Yukio and his students and would have torn into them a fair bit had Rin not been using her shoulder as a pillow.
"I hope you all are happy, because the wounds you have caused will never heal, they are too deep. You might not have wielded knives or swords, but words cut deeper than any weapons. But worst of all you, Yukio, should be ashamed to treat your own twin brother like this, you are more a demon than the man who sired all three of us." Hana said crying the whole time. Or at least until she felt someone wiping away her tears.
"You don't need to cry for my sake, bean," Rin said sitting up straight. He had always been like that, putting both her and Yukio before his own safety and sanity. She shook her head before putting on a big smile. Hana stood up pulling Rin up behind her before reaching down to pick up both his school bag and his sword.
"We will see you back at the dorm Yukio, and you are in for a butt kicking. And I better not see any of your students." Hana said leading Rin to the door, stopping only long enough to look over her shoulder at her middle brother; not that she thought of him as her brother at the minute. Seeing how he hadn't even noticed that in the last six months that Rin had once again stopped eating and was punishing himself for a crime he didn't commit.
"Come on Rin, let's go." Hana said tightening her hold on her brother's arm. It took a total of fifteen minutes to reach the abandoned boy's dorm where she quickly put her oldest brother to bed under a pile of blankets and their familiars. Kiba was her twin who had not moved on, wanting to protect her, and part of the Fenrir pack that had been watching over her family for many generations. And Rin's familiar Kuro, a black cat sith that had once worked with her father.
"Kiba Kuro, I'm going down to the kitchen and start making dinner. If Rin wakes up, can one of you please come and get me?" Hana said before petting her brother's head before heading out of the room and down the stairs. The first thing she did was pull out her notebook full of recipes that she thought her brothers might like. She then took a look at the ingredients that they had in the fridge. Turns out that her brothers had not gone shopping at all in the last few weeks from how little was in their fridge. They had peppers, chicken which hadn't gone bad yet, some milk and cheese, and in the cupboard was pasta. This wasn't a dish that she had ever made for her brothers before seeing as it was a dish, she picked up in the last seven months overseas. Hana was so busy cooking that she didn't notice when Yukio brought his whole cram school class along with a bouquet of beautiful light pink roses and white tulips, with violets popping up here and there, all meaning 'I'm sorry' in the language of flowers, most likely from Shiemi Moriyama's personal flower garden.
"Hana..." Yukio called over the sound of her chopping peppers. Hana didn't even look up from what she was doing, though she was still upset with Yukio. She was just putting the finishing touches on the dish when Rin came tumbling down the stairs, having heard his twin come home. Quickly both Yukio and Hana rushed to Rin's side to check on him. Hana's dish forgotten on the counter and the flowers fell to the floor. Hana pushed Yukio out of the way, so she could cradle Rin's head in her lap. She was trying to make him comfortable, but after a few minutes of Rin still not coming around, she was starting to worry.
"Rin, say something," Hana said while shaking his shoulder, but then she noticed that his lips had started to turn blue, and he was slightly cold to the touch except for his forehead which was burning. Hana was afraid that something like this would happen; he had gone too long without eating or drinking anything and he was now really sick. Hana looked up at Yukio, tears in the corners of her eyes.
"Yukio, he's really sick… again. Look at him, his lips are turning blue. Why didn't you make sure that he was eating, don't you care? Don't you know what I would give to have Kiba here with me, in person and not as a Fenrir watching over me." Hana yelled finally breaking down. She had known that the rift between her brothers was vast but she never thought it was this bad. Unbeknownst to Hana her flames were running a muck, burning a brighter silver than even her own hair, her emotions were running wild just like everything else. But it didn't last long as a howl rang out clear on the wind, bringing Hana back to her senses if only a little bit. Everyone looked at the wolf pup, standing on the stairs.
"Hana, you can't let yourself fall to your emotions. Right now, you need to take care of Rin. I don't trust Yukio or the others behind him." Kiba said, he was in the size of a wolf pup but his voice was strong and soothing. Hana quickly wiped her eyes before gathering her oldest brother into her arms and carrying him back upstairs to his room. She didn't leave his side all night, worried that if she took her eyes off of him, Rin would disappear just like Kiba. She might not have the best knowledge of medicine, but she knew that she had to get something into Rin right away. She found Yukio's stash of herbs that would help alleviate some of Rin's pain and settle his stomach. Hana could still remember that before Rin started middle school he changed, he didn't get into as many fights as before. He started to cook more instead of eating, and would come home beaten and bloody at least twice a week; sometimes more. When she first brought it up to their father, he just brushed it off as puberty, but when Rin started coming home beaten to a pulp nearly every day, Hana put her foot down and dragged Rin to their father. Who finally took her concern seriously; turns out that a group of bullies had ganged up on Rin for several months while on his way home from school. Rin had given up the will to keep on going and instead of bringing shame onto their family by committing suicide, he was waiting for the group of bullies to finish him off. Their father quickly put a stop to that, by reporting everything to the principal at the twins' middle school. Rin told Hana that it had been getting harder and harder the longer he was isolated by his peers. Rin's depression had taken a turn for the worse and this was affecting his eating habits. Rin had been hospitalized a week after that, when Hana came home from school and found Rin lying in a puddle of his own blood; having tried to kill himself by slitting his wrist.
