A mutual understanding

Narrator Switch: Harlequin to Kaze Jukia (second-person)

Your name is Kaze Jukia.

Currently laying on a piece of driftwood on a beach, you're not entirely certain how you got here. If you had to take a guess, shit hit the fan. Because of course it did.

"Miguel, are you out there?" you called out and sat up. Reaching behind you, you find a trident hanging to your back. No worse for the wear, your thoughts turn to that of the hell hole you escaped. An underwater habitat, it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. "Now where am I?"

Looking around, you can make out sand and large creatures playing in said sand. Having not noticed you yet, this is very much not the place you want to be. But that went without saying.

Letting out a sigh, you take a moment to catch your breath. You're alive. That's honestly worth celebrating. Especially considering so many people want you dead on account of your disabilities getting in the way of their school's flawless record, a part of you hoped they had all died. Probably hadn't, but the thought made you feel better. Dusting the sand off your pants and kicking the driftwood away, you headed in the direction of the creatures, you take a moment to check your pockets for anything of note. A part of you was hoping for a golf ball, dart or something else that could be used at range, all that stuff was nowhere to be found. While that did suck, you could make it work. Though, a rock could be handy in this case. Not that any rocks were sticking out here. Because of course they weren't.

"Human!" one of the creatures announced, pointing a blade your way. You very much did not see the swords initially. How rude of them to think that they could just hide their weapons from you. You were a writer, after all. Details were your strong point. At least, in your opinion.

"Uh… I don't mean any harm." you greeted, your words doing little to actually persuade these creatures that you meant little harm. Not that you expected it to do anything. It never did. Why else would your home have been destroyed and you flushed out? Were the rest of the occupants flushed out and drowned? Entirely possible. But there was likely some other explanation that you just weren't thinking about here. For now, you just let that thought fade. Wasn't worth thinking about ri-

Your thoughts are cut off by way of one of the creatures picking you up by the back. Lifting you up into the air, you began flailing about. Even more so when some of the other creatures began to wander around you. Clearly not the sort to see humans often, that doesn't make this easier. If anything, it just made it that much more frustrating. Because of course it did.

"What should we do with him?" one of the creatures announced as you continued to flail about. Couldn't they see how useless and pathetic you actually are? No, that was asking for far too much from this situation. Even as you hear the sound of sand being squished by some kind of footwear. Looking around from your elevated position, you eventually spot a teenage girl. Dressed in a purple tunic and pants, black heeled boots stretched down her legs. Short gauntlets served to obscure purple nails, while a choker hung proudly around her neck. A set of blades hang by her side, similar to those used by these creatures. The finishing touch to her appearance are that of the faded magenta locks of hair meeting that of purple eyes. Try as you might to remember anyone who looked that way, you find yourself coming up empty on this front. Normally not a bad thing, having some kind of connection would likely put you in a better position for negotiations and anything else related to this. Not a thought worth dwelling on here. Instead, you would just need to deal with this situation to the best of your abilities.

"Uh… hi?" you greeted and were met with a look from the leader of these creatures. A sigh escaped her lips, bringing with it a chuckle. Not that you're certain what is so funny. Yes, you're clearly out of your league, but not by that much. At least, you hoped not. "Can I help you?"

The leader shrugged. That very much was not the answer you want to see here. No, you wanted to be helpful. Not that the state your body is in is helping with that.

"For starters, you can tell me what you're doing in the Kimeramon sandbox." the girl announced and you raised an eyebrow. Where does one even begin with a question like that? You honestly don't know. Which is perhaps why this chick is asking you here. You hope that is the case. Would be odd if it wasn't.

"I kind of washed… up here." you answered, very much aware of how stupid that sounds. But you honestly don't care in the slightest. That's the truth and you're sticking to that as your answer. Or at least, as much as you could until new information was brought forth. "I'm guessing that there was something inside of the enclosure my friends and I were trapped in that someone wanted and pierced through the lack of protections, killing them all."

Now, it was your captor's turn to raise an eyebrow. While possibly not buying your statement, that doesn't change the fact that you're telling the truth.

"Oh. Good to know. That's one less thing I'll need to deal with. Not that I quite believe you." the woman muttered and you began flailing about once more. The nerve of this bitch. Couldn't she see that this was the truth? Or was she just trying to play with you? Hard to say with this person. You never were good at that in the slightest. Made these situations all the more challenging.

"Then can I prove it then?" you announced, only to get an eye roll. Not ideal, but you can make do with that sim-

Right as you're about to continue talking, that was when your base of operations decided now was as good of a time as any to blow up. You honestly don't remember anything in the way of explosives being there, but you're honestly not surprised.

"Huh." the girl announced and watched the geyser of water that had shot up towards the sky fall back down to earth. Then it's back over to you. Or was this just part of some kind of twisted test ahead of something far greater? "I guess that's good enough proof for me. Kimeramon, set him down. He's one of those people that bitch dropped in."

Getting set down, you still raised an eyebrow at that comment. While you weren't the sort to really dwell on how exactly you got here, something about it made sense. Perhaps this chick knew more than she was letting on. That, or you and her were thinking about someone else entirely. Probably the latter. The former felt a tad too convenient for the situation you found yourself in.

"I'll take your word for it." you muttered and got a look from your captor. What? You were in agreement with her. She should be happy about that fact. But no, it almost seemed like the opposite… for some reason. You just can't win. In a way, it almost felt like you were back in that hell. Struggling to survive for the sake of making friends with everyone. A pointless diversion to distract from the fact that they were trapped in a hostile sea with nothing in the way of escape being possible. "Hey. I'm just as confused as you are?"

The girl shook her head.

"I'm fairly certain that I know a lot more than you do." the girl answered and you reluctantly nodded. Did this count as a form of humiliation? Yes. In your book at least. Probably not the book of others, bit you honestly don't give a fuck about them right now. Except for her - Nagia. You're not certain why exactly an image of something called a 'mermiamon' just flooded into your mind, but it puts you at ease. In a good way. Like nothing else that you can think about here. But you let that thought fade. "Unless you know something that I don't."

Giving you a wink, you sighed. Of course the teasing wouldn't stop. On the bright side, the kimeramon seemed too have dispersed. So you have that going for you. Even as the waves deliver that of human body parts. Already dead when the explosion went off, that doesn't change the fact that none of them deserved such a fate in the first place. What possessed someone to think that any part of this was okay? Yes, you were happy to survive this mess. But those people were just as deserving in that regard. God. Why did you have to be like that? Couldn't be happy that you were alive, but that someone else was profiting off of your work and/or continuing to perpetuate a lie that very much was not the case.

Just to fuck with you, your thoughts turn to that of Nagia. You're not certain why exactly your thoughts went there. But they did. Perhaps that was the answer. Maybe she could tell you what was going on and in turn, prove this girl wrong. Though, such an action might get you stabbed in the process. A small price to pay for the truth.

Slowly approaching the edge of the water, you look out in search of your friend. Even though you can't see her, something about this gives you hope. Misguided hope, but hope nonetheless.

"Nagia, are you out there?!" you shouted, the sounds of water rippling echoing forth. Perhaps you still had a chance. Against all odds, Nagia would come rushing out of the wa-

Before you could finish that thought, you are knocked off your feet by way of a massive wave. Staring up, you were met with a beautiful woman twirling about in the air. Landing in the water, she gracefully swam over. Up close, you can make out the cyan and blue fish scale armor that covers a good chunk of her body and lead perfectly into her mermaid tail. Her face is obscured with that of a helmet reminiscent of a fish's mouth, but did little to obscure her locks of light purple hair.

"It's been a while, Kaze." the woman cooed and your face went red. Words escape your mouth, but none of it is close to coherent. Not that either of you minded.

"I guess it has, Nagia." you answered, throwing caution to the wind and walking out to her. Thankfully, your partner was more than willing to close the distance and give you a hug. Even if that did mean ignoring the look your captor was giving "Uh… do you know what happened?"

Nagia scooped you up and slowly carried you back to the beach.

"If I had to take a guess, there was a mutiny and things went to hell." Nagia answered and looked over to your captor. A sigh escaped her lips and her gaze was back on you. Oh dear. You're about to enter a catfight, aren't you? While you weren't the best when it came to fight scenes back before this mess, you like to think you've gotten better. Regardless of the fact you were granted a weapon, but nothing in the way of actual training. In your defense, that all happened so fast that other things took precedence. Things that were far more important than accidentally stabbing people and/or blocking other weapons. Activities like working on your social skills and trying not to die in that death trap, for example. Okay, that was more of the latter than the former. "Hello, Miss Kaiserin. How are you doing this fine morning?"

Kaiserin flipped you both off. Tempting as it would be to charge forth and attempt to kick your captor's ass, that was bound to backfire on you in hilarious fashion. No, you would instead bite your tongue in the face of possible annihilation. Especially since you need to get back to your world. Hopefully, there did exist a way to get out of here.

"Wonderful. Just fucking wonderful." Kaiserin muttered as you got out of Nagia's arms. While a part of you wanted to wait and see if she could still transform her legs and feet to that of a mammal's, you had a feeling that you already knew the answer to that question. Probably not. "Not only do I have to deal with him, I now have you on my ass as well. This day can't get any better if I fucking tried!"

You rolled her eyes. For all the claims you didn't understand social cues in the slightest (which there was some truth too), this came through loud and clear in the worst possible way. Knowing your luck, someone else was bound to show up and add to this m-

The sound of a car engine of all things was enough to catch you by complete surprise and bring a swift end to that thought. Not that it probably mattered in the grand scheme of things.

Instead, you and Nagia turn your attention to the vehicle. One of those classic station wagons (likely imported from the United States), a group of cloaked and masked figures within. That doesn't explain how exactly they managed to hydroplane over the ocean and onto the solid ground without a single drop of water hanging to their vehicle.

"Get in. We're all heading for the Human World." the driver announced and motioned for you and your companions to head over. Nagia flopped right behind you, but Kaiserin chose to remain behind. Not that you cared in the slightest. No, she was being a bitch and could just walk or use whatever other method she had at her disposal.

"Uh… thanks?" you announced and were met with chuckling from that of the other passengers. Nonetheless, you make your way over. Nagia followed right behind, taking care to waddle in the process. Hopefully the passengers within would have water off some kind on them to allow her to not fucking die. Not something worth thinking about as you and Nagia enter the vehicle. Ignoring the rest of the passengers and the driver here, your attention turns to the road ahead. Or at least, the lack of it. Such a strange vehicle this group of people owns. Yet, it's better than nothing. Especially when you consider what you started with in the first place. Not that this is really saying much in the grand scheme of things. But you shoved those thoughts out of your head and your focus turned to Nagia. Reaching for her hand, a squeeze followed. Felt quite good as the vehicle was pulled through a digi-port…
