Now that Ashlynn and Hunter were back together and with Apple's blessing no less, the True Hearts dance was in more swing than before. People were exchanging their heart blossoms with each other left and right as partygoers were dancing the night away.

But a certain dark fairy wasn't in a festive mood. Amber sighed as she aimlessly wandered around the room. She decided to come alone and meet up with her friends. But when she finally spotted them at a distance, she didn't like what she saw. Greenly and Raoul sittng with Bentley and Amber's least favorite cousin, Faybelle. And the way they were chatting, laughing, and joking so well together, Amber knew that she was going to be a fifth wheel. So, she walked the other way.

'How could they betray me like this?!' Amber thought as she leaned against a wall with all her weight. Her friends meant the world to her. And they should feel the same. So, why would they risk their friendship by hanging out with her obnoxiously evil cousin who would constantly brag about how great and powerful she was?! Amber was angry. Real angry. But she didn't want to vent her rage on her friends. What if that's what Faybelle wanted her to do?

Before she could ponder this, Amber spotted a fellow sad face against the wall too. It was Raven Queen! What was she sad about? Curious, the fairy approached her. "Hey, Raven. What's got you down?"

Heaving a heavy sigh, Raven reached into her pocket and pulled out a note. "I got this love poem from Dexter. And I was so happy he felt that way about me! But..."

"But what?" Amber pressed, her concern rising.

"I saw him holding hands with Cupid!"

Amber gasped. "What?! WITH CUPID?!" she screamed.

Raven saw Amber's eyes glowing with anger. "Whoa! Chill out, Amber!"

"I can't believe her! She doesn't notice even Bentley falling for her and she latches onto that...that...four-eyed jerk!"

"Dexter is not a jerk!" Raven replied without thinking. She blinked, realizing she just defended the boy who broke her heart.

"Yeah, he is! He's a four-eyed philanderist!" Amber retorted.

Raven stared. "Uh, I think you mean, 'philanderer'." she corrected.

"Whatever-after!" Amber tossed her hands up. "He's becoming a skirt-chaser just like Daring! And I thought he was above all that! Stupid Charming snobs! I say we do something about this!"

"Like what?" asked Raven.

"Like cast an evil spell on Dex and Cupid! That'll each them not to mess with us!"

"Us? What do you mean, 'us'?" Raven questioned. "What's your beef with them? I thought this was about me."

Amber folded her arms across her chest. "My beef is your beef with them. Come on, Raven! Don't you want to get back at them?!"

But Raven shook her head. "No way, Amber. That would make me just like my mother. Which, I remind you, is a destiny I'm trying to avoid."

Annoyed, Amber unfurled her wings and lifted herself off the ground. "Well, fine, if you want to be a doormat for the rest of your life!" She took off, leaving a trail of fairy dust behind.

Raven sighed, leaning back against the wall. Suddenly, Maddie appeared to help her frowning friend. "Don't be a worry-flurry! Let's party!" She took Raven's hand and Raven happily joined Maddie to enjoy the party.

Amber flew out of the Red Shoes Dance Club and away from the village. She was done with True Hearts Day and the dance. The fairy landed at the school, thinking she should just lay in bed and forget everything that happened. But she didn't want to forget because she felt something. Being all alone made her feel something she had not felt in a long time.

Insignificance.

When you're the niece of Madame Thorn, the powerful dark fairy who cursed Sleeping Beauty, it seemed like the villain world revolved around the main branch of the Thorn family, not the branch family where Amber is from. Luckily, Amber's loving and doting parents didn't mind. Being magically weak themselves, they knew it wasn't wise trying to compete with Faybelle's side of the family. So, they embraced being in the shadows.

Looking back on those cold, bleak memories, Amber decided to cope in the best way she knew how. She flew deep into the Dark Forest and planted her behind on a nice, mossy log. The fairy took in her surroundings. The welcoming darkness. The smell of fresh mud. The soothing sound of the wind carrying a wolf's howl through the spooky trees.

Amber smiled, feeling much better. "It's been so long since I wallowed in the gloom like this." She looked down and spotted a large black spider next to her foot. The spider blinked it's many eyes up at Amber. Amber smiled and waved to the spider. The spider waved back and happily crawled away.

"Hey! Amber?" a voice called out. Startled, Amber turned and saw Rosabella Beauty entering the clearing.

"Oh! Uh, hey, Rose." Amber said, still surprised. She knew Rosabella was okay for a princess, but to think she had the guts to enter the Dark Forest at night.

Rosabella sat next to Amber on the mossy log. "I saw you leave the dance and you looked pretty mad! Is everything alright?"

Amber decided to let down the barricades and tell her friend the truth. "No, I feel that...everyone is moving forward and leaving me behind. So much is happening. My friends' lives are progressing, more rebels are forging their own paths. And me...I'm just a fairy without a tale."

"Amber," Rosabella put a comforting hand on the fairy's shoulder. "I know it's hard not knowing your story yet. But you'll find out soon enough. In the meantime, just keep in mind that you're not alone. You've got me, Ashlynn, and lots of other friends too." She gave a reassuring smile.

"Are you sure you want me as a friend? A dark fairy that could wind up a villain?" Amber said in a no nonsense tone. "Because I have no qualms about that. If I'm going to be a villain, I will embrace that role. Because to me, an evil destiny is better than no destiny at all."

Rosabella nodded without hesitation. "I understand if that's what you want, Amber. And I have no qualms about being friends with a villain."

"You...don't?"

"I know you just want to make your mark on the world and I respect that. But if you do choose evil, you have to make sure not to take things too far. Remember the Evil Queen?"

Amber shuddered. "Don't remind me." She knew all too well about the Evil Queen's fate when she rampaged and tried to destroy all fairytales. "Thanks, Rose. You're the only one who understands me."

"Anything for a friend." Rosabella stood up. "Now, come on. We've got a dance to get to."
