Chapter 14: A Family Filled Challenge! Vs. The Winstrate Family!
Weiss - "So what do we do now Michael?"
Michael - "First off Weiss. Like back in Slateport, you and your group are gonna restock our supplies. However, there's a good chance of somehow encountering Team Magma near the foot of Mt. Chimney. Roxanne. Are there any other cities besides Lavaridge Town to the north?"
Roxanne - "There is. Fallabor Town. It's on the northern end of Mt. Chimney."
Michael - "Good. That'll be our destination then. You know what to do Weiss."
Weiss - "Leave it to us. Where are you guys gonna be?"
Michael - "By the city's north exit. We'll wait for you there."
Weiss and her group then left for the Poké Mart, with Yang going along for extra help. Meanwhile, Michael led the rest of the party to Mauville City's north exit. After waiting for a good hour, Weiss and her group returned with supplies.
Weiss - "This should be more than enough until we reach Fallabor Town."
Michael - "That's good to hear. Now let's get all of this packed away, then move on to Fallabor Town.
Girls - "Right!"
Michael and the girls quickly packed everything away, then began their trek north towards Mt. Chimney. While walking, the party came across a lone house. Outside the front of the house, they saw a single man. Michael walked over to the man.
Michael - "Excuse me sir?"
The man turned towards Michael.
Michael - "Are you looking for someone?"
? - "Not really young man. Oh. Name's Victor by the way."
Michael - "Nice to meet you, Victor. My name's Michael. And these are my friends."
Victor - "Pleasure to meet you all. I'm guessing you're all travelers then?"
Ruby - "Yes we are."
Victor - "Then how about one of you take on me and my family of four in a series of Pokémon battles?"
Michael - "Sure. We're in."
Victor - "That's the spirit! I like you guys!"
Roxanne, Bea, Whitney, Iono, and Clair stayed out of the challenge as they thought that their power as gym leaders was an unfair advantage. Meanwhile, the rest of the girls took the challenge, with all of them getting past Victor, but then falling to either his wife Victoria or their daughter Vivi. Soon, Michael finally had his turn at the challenge. Roxanne acted as the referee.

Victor - "Go Swellow!"
Michael - "Delcatty I choose you!"
Match #1: Delcatty (Wise Glasses) vs. Swellow (Sharp Beak)
Roxanne - "Delcatty Vs. Swellow! Begin!"

Victor - "Quick Wing Ace!"
Michael - "Thunder Ice!"
Quick Attack's Current Power: 40 + 20 = 60
Wing Attack's Current Power: 60 + 30 = 90 + 18 = 108
Aerial Ace's Current Power: 60 + 30 = 90 + 18 = 108
Quick Wing Ace's Current Power: 60 + 108 = 168 + 108 = 276
Thunder's Current Power: 110 + 22 = 132
Ice Beam's Current Power: 90 + 18 = 108
Thunder Ice's Current Power: 132 + 108 = 240 x 2 = 480 x 2 = 960
Swellow was able to strike first due to the priority given by Quick Attack. But sadly, Delcatty took the hit and knocked out Swellow in a single hit with her own combo move.

Victor's Remaining Pokémon: 2 – 1 = 1
Victor returned Swellow.
Victor - "Thank you for the effort Swellow. Get a good rest. Go Linoone!"
Roxanne - "Will you change Pokémon Michael?"
Michael - "Delcatty return! Mawile I choose you!"
Delcatty jumped back, landing next to Michael as Mawile took her place.
Match #2: Mawile (Muscle Band) Vs. Linoone (Silk Scarf)
Roxanne - "Mawile Vs. Linoone! Begin!"

Victor - "Facading Take Down!"
Michael - "Iron Ice Rough!"
Façade's Current Power: 70 + 35 = 105 + 21 = 126
Take Down's Current Power: 90 + 45 = 135 + 27 = 162
Facading Take Down's Current Power: 126 + 162 = 288/2 = 144
Iron Head's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120 + 24 = 144
Ice Punch's Current Power: 75 + 15 = 90

Linoone was quicker, so he rushed at Mawile. But Mawile just tanked the attack and struck back, knocking out Linoone in a single hit.
Roxanne - "Linoone is unable to battle! Mawile wins!"
Victor - "Aiyah! You're a lot tougher than I expected!"
Victor's Remaining Pokémon: 1 – 1 = 0

Roxanne - "Both of Victor Winstrate's Pokémon are knocked out! So Michael Masi wins the battle!"
Victor - "Well aren't you a strong Trainer. Your turn dear."
Victor walked over to the bench and sat down to his daughter's right. As his wife took over for him.
Victoria - "Oh, my goodness! Aren't you young? You must be quite the Trainer to beat my husband, though. It's my turn to battle, now! Go Roserade!"
Michael - "Frosmoth I choose you!"

Victoria - "Talk about being a strong Trainer. A really strong one. Your turn Vivi sweetheart."
Victoria walked over and sat next to her husband as their daughter Vivi took over.
Vivi - "You're even stronger than Mommy? Wow! But I'm strong too! Really! Honestly!"

Vivi - "Go Azumarill!"
Michael - "Ariados I choose you!"
Match #1: Ariados (Poison Barb) Vs. Azumarill (Mystic Water)
Roxanne - "Ariados Vs. Azumarill! Begin!"

Vivi - "Bubblebeam!"
Michael - "Dodge and use Poison Facade!
Bubblebeam's Current Power: 65 + 32.5 = 97.5 + 19.5 = 117
Poison Jab's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120 + 24 = 144
Facade's Current Power: 70 + 14 = 84
Poison Façade's Current Power: 144 + 84 = 228 x 2 = 456
Ariados easily dodged the incoming Bubblebeam and attacked Azumarill, knocking her out in a single hit.
Roxanne - "Azumarill is unable to battle! Ariados wins!"
Michael - "Nice one Ariados!"
Vivi's Remaining Pokémon: 3 – 1 = 2
Vivi returned Azumarill.
Vivi - "Thank you for trying Azumarill. Get a good rest. Go Breloom!"
Roxanne - "Will you change Pokémon Michael?"
Michael - "Ariados return! Frosmoth I choose you!"
Weiss - "Good call."
Pinkie - "What do you mean Weiss?"
Clair - "There's a chance that Breloom could know the ability Poison Heal."
Rarity - "That's where the Pokémon gets healed from being poisoned instead of taking damage from the status condition, right?"
Bea - "That's correct Rarity. But now that also brings the question of how good a choice Frosmoth is."
Ariados returned to Michael as she was replaced by Frosmoth.
Match #2: Frosmoth (Nevermeltice) Vs. Breloom (Miracle Seed)
Roxanne - "Frosmoth Vs. Breloom! Begin!"

Vivi - "Fire Rock Slide!"
Michael - "Ice Gleam Hurricane!"
Fire Rock Slide's Current Power: 75 + 75 = 150 x 4 = 600 x 4 = 2,400
Ice Beam's Current Power: 90 + 45 = 135 + 27 = 162
Dazzling Gleam's Current Power: 80 + 16 = 96

Breloom used Fire Punch to launch the stones from Rock Slide at Frosmoth. But Frosmoth's own combo attack instead launched the flaming stones back at Breloom, striking her and knocking her out.

Michael - "Atta girl Frosmoth!"
Vivi's Remaining Pokémon: 2 – 1 = 1
Vivi returned Breloom.
Vivi - "Thank you Breloom. Get a good rest. Go Camerupt!"
Roxanne - "Will you change Pokémon Michael?"
Michael - "Frosmoth return! Araquanid I choose you!"
Frosmoth floated over to Michael's other side as Araquanid took her place.
Match #3: Araquanid (Mystic Water) Vs. Numel (Charcoal)
Roxanne - "Araquanid Vs. Camerupt! Begin!"
Turn #3
Vivi - "Eruption Quake!"
Michael - "Liquidation Crunch!"
Eruption's Current Power: 150 + 75 = 225 + 45 = 270
Earthquake's Current Power: 100 + 50 = 150
Eruption Quake's Current Power: 270 + 150 = 420/2 = 210
Liquidation's Current Power: 85 + 42.5 = 127.5 + 25.5 = 153
Crunch's Current Power: 80 + 16 = 96
Liquidation Crunch's Current Power: 153 + 96 = 249 x 4 = 996
Araquanid easily dodged Camerupt's combo move, then struck back with her own. Sadly, it wasn't enough to knock Camerupt out.
Vivi - "Way to hang on Camerupt!"
Michael - "Crap. Forgot how much HP Camerupt has."

Vivi - "Eruption Quake again!"
Michael - "Dodge it and end this with a second Liquidation Crunch!"
Much like the first time around, Araquanid easily dodged and attacked Camerupt, finally knocking him out.
Roxanne - "Camerupt is unable to battle! Araquanid wins!"
Michael - "Good work Araquanid!"
Vivi - "Awww. I lost..."
Vivi's Remaining Pokémon: 1 – 1 = 0

Roxanne - "All three of Vivi Winstrate's Pokémon are knocked out! So Michael Masi wins the battle!"
Vivi - "Rats I did lose. Oh well. I had fun either way."
Michael - "Thanks for the fun battle Vivi."
Vivi - "Not at all."
She then turned towards the house.
Vivi - "Your turn grandma!"
Vivi returned to her parents as the elder member of the Winstrate family walked over to the battlefield.
? - "Thank you for battling the rest of my family "Champion" Michael."
The girls were stunned that Michael's secret was discovered. However, Michael was smiling the entire time.
Michael - "I'm guessing you all, along with all of Hoenn and the rest of regions, saw me sweep Lance."
? - "Yes, we did. You actually inspired my grandson, Vito, to challenge the Hoenn League. As for me, I'm Vicky, the current head of the Winstrate family. Sadly, I only have one Pokémon on me. But I intend to give this battle my all! Go Medichan!"
Michael - "Same here! Araquanid I choose you!"

Araquanid withstood Medichan's combo attack as she slowly got closer and fired off her own.
Michael - "Compared to Araquanid resisting Medichan's Fighting-Type moves, I would've been in a very bad situation. Sure, Fighting-Types are known for resisting Bug and Dark moves, but thanks to Medichan also being a Psychic-Type, it counteracts those resistances. Meaning all four of Araquanid's moves deal neutral damage. Throw them into a combo move, and you have the perfect counter to anything she resists."

Vicky - "Close Zen Headbutt!"
Michael - "Liquid Poison Crunching Lunge!"
Both Pokémon issued the same exchange as before.
Michael - "This is getting us nowhere. But despite that, Medichan's on her last legs here. As for Araquanid, just how much more damage can she take?"
Turn #3
Vicky - "End this with one last Close Zen Headbutt!"
Michael - "Use a final Liquid Poison Crunching Lunge!"
Both Pokémon charged at each other for a third, and hopefully, final time. Both Araquanid and Medichan got some good hits on each other during this final exchange. After a few moments, Araquanid flinched.
Michael - "Araquanid!"
Vicky smirked at her seemingly hard-fought win. Then, Medichan suddenly fell over and hit the ground, swirls appearing in her eyes.
Roxanne - "Medichan is unable to battle! Araquanid wins!"
Vicky - "Kwah! You are strong... My granddaughter was right..."
(Music Ends)
Roxanne - "Vicky Winstrate's Medichan is knocked out. So Michael Masi wins the battle!"
Michael - "Good job Araquanid!"
Vicky - "Well that's a crushing defeat... Oh well. Nothing I can do about it. And thank you for the fun battle young Michael."
Michael - "Not at all Vicky. By the way. You said that your grandson Vito is challenging the League right now?"
Vicky - "Yes I did. Why do you ask?"
Michael - "Well let's just say that I think we'll reach him BEFORE getting there."
Vicky - "To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised at all if you did. Anyway. Safe travels to you all on the rest of your journey."
Michael - "Thanks. You all take care too."
With that, Michael and the girls left the Winstrate household and continued their way north along Route 111.
