Paralogue Three: Welcome To 351

Markus made his way to the pitch in the schoolyard. There was no better way to teach advanced battle than on a battle pitch, after all. He'd reserved court three for the hour, and as the time reached 11:00 AM and the students trickled in, Markus began to speak.

"Welcome to ABS 351, the class with the most unfortunate designator at Uva Academy. I'm Mr. Vaughn, and I'll be going over all the battling strategies that will make the difference when you crawl in a Tera Den and are staring down a Charizard with a funny hat on its head." A couple of the students chuckled. Gengar took the opportunity to rise from Markus's shadow. "This is Gengar, my partner. She'll be doing your practical evaluations. Make sure you get a syllabus from Gengar." A stack of papers appeared in Gengar's hands, and she began passing them out to students.

Markus continued. "So, there are what, twelve of you. Mostly upperclassmen, save for one first semester freshman. Props for placing by the way, unidentified student whose name I will not reveal." Gengar finished passing out the Syllabi and returned to Markus. "Now, we're not here on the pitch to sit on our asses," he paused. "Does anyone care if I speak colloquially? There will be swearing."

"Nah, you're good." Came the reply from one of the girls in the back of the crowd. Markus nodded and continued. "Cool, anyway like I said we're not here to sit on our asses. Half of this class will be applying what you learn in lecture with Gengar. You'll learn about vitamins, Pokémon training regimens, and the innate strengths of Pokémon in the first half of the term. The second half will be on Pokémon Natures, secret Pokémon abilities, and how to secretly smuggle snacks onto the pitch without pissing off the staff members. That last one is the trickiest. They check your bag."

More of the students laughed openly now, so Markus mentally declared the ice broken. Gengar took her place on the pitch. "Let's see what y'all can do. One at a time you'll send your lead Pokémon out for a light scrimmage with Gengar. Show me what you got." The students stood up, and a girl took her place on the other side of the pitch. "It is on!"
