Nancy and Cassie find themselves at the Hawkins Police station. Cassie sits on the stone step, smoking a cigarette until she sees a car coming towards the station. Taking a better look of who is inside the vehicle, it is Chief Hopper and Joyce Byers. The brunette quickly discards the cigarette as soon as they step out of the vehicle.
"I've been seeing you more times this past week, Grant. This better not be a recurring thing." Hopper tells Cassie.
"Don't want to be around Callahan. He's a pain in the ass." Cassie tells him.
"Yeah, he's known for that, kid." The Chief tells her as both he and Joyce get inside.
Cassie follows them inside and towards Nancy and Jonathan, who is icing Jonathan's face in the aftermath of Steve getting a few punches in. Cassie grabs a chair and sits down next to Nancy.
"Hey, Jonathan? Jesus, what happened?" Joyce asks, confused about the whole situation that is in front of her. "Why is he wearing handcuffs?"
"Well, your boy assaulted a police officer. That's why." Callahan replies to her in monotone.
"Take them off." Joyce tells him. "I am afraid I cannot do that." Callahan tells her.
"Take them off!" Joyce repeats, but is now louder. "You heard her. Take 'em off." Hopper orders Callahan, siding with Joyce.
Powell, being the voice of reason, speaks up. "Chief, I get everyone's emotional here, but there's something you need to see." he tells Hopper.
Powell and Callahan lead Hopper outside. A little while later, they came back inside with all of the weapons that they had. Cassie mentally sighs in relief about the fact that they didn't find her bow and arrow.
"What is this?" Joyce asks, searching through the equipment that is in the box.
"Why don't you ask your son? We found it in his car." Hopper tells Joyce.
"Why are you going through my car?" Jonathan asks Hopper, annoyed.
"Is that really the question you should be asking right now?" Hopper asks, leaning further towards Jonathan in an interrogating matter. "I wanna see you in my office."
"You won't believe me." Jonathan points out.
"Why don't you give me a try?" Hopper challenges him.
Everyone, excluding Callahan and Powell, all pile into Hopper's office. Jonathan hands Hopper the picture of the creature that has been spotted in the pool area of the Harrington residence that is behind Barb.
"You say blood draws this thing?" Hopper asks Jonathan, Nancy, and Cassie.
"We don't know." Jonathan responds to him.
"Yeah, it's just a theory." Nancy agrees with Jonathan.
"Yeah, a theory that is also a high possibility." Cassie points out.
Joyce then leads Jonathan outside, so she could talk to him.
From the office, they hear complaints being aired out. Very loudly, one might add. Hopper tells the girls to stay in the office as he leaves.
"I'm sorry about Steve." Nancy apologizes to Cassie.
"I'm sorry about him, too." Cassie repeats over to Nancy. "He's an asshole to humiliate you like that."
Nancy then looks at Cassie's wrists to see the fingernail-shaped indents embedded into them. It's as if they are scars.
No. It's impossible. Steve would never lay his hand on a girl.
"Steve didn't do that, did he?" Nancy asks, pointing at Cassie's wrist.
"No. It happened before I even moved back." Cassie replied, coldly.
Nancy could sense that Cassie wants whatever happened to her erased from her memory. The smaller brunette turns to face the detached brunette, concern brewing in her face. "Was somebody hurting you?" Nancy asks.
"Now, you sound like my mother." Cassie deflects. "Man, I fucking wished I listened to her."
The door to Hopper's office opens. "We need to leave. Now." he orders. There is a sense of urgency in his tone, so Cassie and Nancy did what he ordered without any complaints.
Hopper leads Joyce, Jonathan, Nancy, and Cassie out to the Wheeler house where there are government officials taking stuff out of the house.
"I have to go home." Nancy stresses out to Hopper.
"No, you can't." Hopper tells her, observing everything that is going on through binoculars.
Nancy, on the other hand, isn't taking that lightly. "My mom…my dad are there." she tries to protest. She is about to walk over to her house, but is held back by Hopper.
"The last thing they need is them knowing you're mixed up in all this." Hopper points out.
"Mike is over there–" Nancy cries out.
There is a pit that opened up in Cassie's stomach. The last thing she needs is those kids to be put in more danger.
"They haven't found him." Hopper tells her. "Not yet, at least." he adds in, pointing over at a helicopter that is high in the sky.
"Shit." Cassie breathes out. If Mike hasn't been found yet, then neither has Dustin and Lucas.
Nancy is pushed back into the car, with Jonathan in between the two girls. "Look, we need to find them before they do." Hopper tells the teenagers that are sitting in the back seat. "Do you have any idea where he might have gone?"
"No, I don't…" Nancy tries to tell him, but Hopper persists. "I need you to think."
While Nancy is bumbling out an answer, Cassie throws out a suggestion. "Try communicating with them through walkie talkies." she guesses.
"We don't know where he is, but we know how to ask him." Jonathan agrees with Cassie.
Hopper then drives off to the Byers house, which is located deep within the woods.
They all enter the house, however, Cassie and Nancy paused to observe the Christmas lights that are decorated all over the house.
"I'm not the only one seeing all of this, am I?" Cassie asks her.
"I'm seeing it too." Nancy chimes in as Cassie grabs her by the wrist and follows the two Byers' and Hopper down a hallway.
"I got it." they hear Joyce say in Will's room. They all pile into Will's room and Nancy takes the walkie talkie.
"Mike, are you there? Mike?" Nancy asks. There is no response, so Nancy tries again. "Mike, it's me, Nancy."
Yet again, no response.
"Mike, are you there? This is an emergency, Mike. Do you copy? Mike, do you copy?" Nancy tries.
No response.
"Let me try." Cassie opts in. Nancy gives her the walkie talkie.
"Kids, this is Cassie. Do you copy? Over." Cassie tries.
Like Nancy, she gets no response.
"I'm sorry that I haven't been there. You guys are in serious danger. Please let us help you." Cassie pleads.
Her heart sank when she was hearing nothing.
Hopper then takes the radio from Cassie's hand. "Listen, kid, this is the Chief. If you're there, pick up. We know you're in trouble and we know about the girl. We can protect you, we can help you, but you gotta pick up. Are you there? Do you copy? Over."
Like Nancy and Cassie before him, there was silence. He then turns over to Jonathan, Nancy, Cassie, and Joyce. "Anybody got any other ideas?" he asks them.
"Yes, I copy." they hear Mike over the radio. "It's Mike. I'm here. We're here."
