Chapter 84

"This is Yuuki Konno with a live report from the Wedding of the Century!"

Yuuki waited a beat as holographic images of the wedding appeared, then a highlight selection of guests. They couldn't show EVERYONE of course, it'd take hours.

"The Princess Usagi and Senshi Tomoe have just left, travelling interdimensional for their honeymoon," Yuuki reported.

At the studio a host asked, "Do we know where they're going?"

Yuuki shook her head as she explained, "It's being kept secret, understandably so..."

"No honeymoon crashers allowed?" the other host joked.

"Exactly," Yuuki agreed.

"And the wedding party?" the chirpy host asked.

Yuuki nodded brightly, "The festivities will also continue through the weekend, so get out and have fun!"

"And... cut!" her cameraman called.

Yuuki visibly relaxed. "PLEASE tell me that's the last filler piece I have to do," she begged.

Dani Clayton, her current aide, shook her head. The taller woman replied, "We're done, at least for today."

"Good," Yuuki brightened, "I wanted to get some interviews."

"Your interview with the Guardian Cats went up earlier today," Dani noted, "the ratings are huge. Top item of the day, other than the wedding."

Yuuki blushed faintly.

"Mind you, the Church of the Devine Serenity is pissed," Dani added.

"Ugh," Yuuki sighed.

(There was, in fact, SEVERAL religions based around Queen Serenity, none of which she approved of. However, one of the principles of her government was Freedom of Religion, unless you were actively hurting other. So there wasn't much she could DO about it...)

"Death threats?" Yuuki wondered aloud.

"Yup," Dani agreed.

"Hope the police don't insist on a body guard, it's so inconvenient," Yuuki added.

"You're not worried about people wanting to KILL you?" Dani blinked.

"I'm a AI housed in a android body, remember," Yuuki pointed out, "besides, pissing people off is part of the job."

Dani shook her head, "Reporters are crazy."

"Well, your daughter is married at last," Lady Mars noted as they met in the 'private' chambers on the residence in the Palace.

"I still find it hard to grasp, at times," Queen Serenity admitted, her white-gold hair flowing down her back.

"I was worried someone would jump the party," Utena Tenjou noted, wearing a formal uniform based on her duelist outfit.

"No one is THAT dumb," Lady Uranus noted.

"Never underestimate human stupidity, Haruka," Anthy, Utena's wife, noted dryly, her red gown shimmering.

"Too bad Tenchi couldn't come," Lady Neptune added.

"Riding herd over the Jurai Lords is a full time job," Lady Mercury noted. "Rei and I should know... we had diplomatic missions out there."

"Ugh, don't remind me," Lady Mars groaned.

In THEORY as Emperor of the Jurai, Tenchi should have been able to just order his nobles to settle down. However, in reality the power he held was limited by custom and tradition, and the lords fought each other AND his neighbours.

"I should call him sometime tomorrow, he likes to have someone he can complain to," Queen Serenity chuckled.

"You're so kind," King Endymion teased her.

Serenity stuck her tongue out, and everyone laughed.

"Well," Lady Pluto raised her glass, "To the Princess and Hotaru!"

"To the Princess and Hotaru!" everyone chorused and drank.

"As Hotaru was pretty much your daughter, how are you feeling?" Ami addressed Haruka, Michiru and Setsuna.

"Happy for her," Haruka said firmly.

"She cried like a baby during the ceremony," Michiru teased.

"I DID NOT," Haruka grumbled.

Setsuna just chuckled softly.

"Setsuna!" Juri hurried in, smiling as she embraced her.

"Where are Touga and the others?" Setsuna asked about some of their other friends.

"Getting drunk at Strangefellows," Juri noted, smiling.

Of course, while most of the world partied, other things carried on.

"I'm kind of annoyed you weren't invited to the ceremony," Nadseico Kinomoto said, snuggled up beside her lover Jun Fudoh on the couch.

"I don't WANT to be invited," Jun noted, the tall woman smiling.

"Agreed," Celty Sturluson, the headless horsewoman, noted via her mini computer.

"More snacks, everyone?" Anri Sonohara asked, the pretty, busty young woman coming out of the kitchen.

"You don't need to go crazy hosting us," Nadesico smiled warmly.

The group of four had become good friends, now that Anri and Celty had moved nearby. They had a lot in common, and also worked together at times for Lady Venus.

"It's fine," Anri said, cuddling with Celty on the other couch.

Jun had some crackers as she said, "Honestly, I was relieved not to be invited. I'm happy with my current level of fame."

"Most people want to be more famous," Celty noted, amused.

Nadesico added wryly, "Not her. If she let me, I could make her MUCH bigger..."

Anri said thoughtfully, "Plus I assume Lady Venus doesn't really WANT you to be famous." Celty and Jun both did covert ops for Venus, of course, so they couldn't be that well known.

"Though both of us are publicaly known," Celty added.

"Look! There's Venus! And her girlfriend, the Major," Nadesico pointed at the hologram.

"Does Major Motoko always look so annoyed?" Anri asked Celty and Jun.

"Pretty much," Jun chuckled.

Ambassador Ririka Kato was a average sized, brown haired older woman, and she was back at the League Embassy after the wedding.

"I'm here!" the tired blonde declared as she strode in.

"Jenny! Welcome to Earth," Ririka smiled.

Jenny Dolittle smiled, the much younger blonde being followed in by her lover, Lynn Lambretta. They made a good looking couple, though that this point both looked tired.

"Any problems getting here?" Ririka asked them as she poured them both cups of coffee from the warmer.

"Mesa backed off once they realized you had gotten out of League space," Lynn noted. "Having the Bentenmaru and Barbarossa as distractions worked."

The planet of Mesa had REALLY wanted control of the Ambassador position, and had even been prepared to use force to remove her. Thankfully her daughter Marika and Jenny had worked out the plan to get her away before Mesa could jump her.

"I'm glad everyone mostly made it out unharmed," Ririka added.

"So... are you sure you want me as your manager here at the Embassy?" Jenny asked.

"You and Lynn," Ririka agreed, "you're both hightly skilled and well trained. Plus, I know you well enough to trust you."

"I'm in if you are?" Lynn looked at Jenny.

"All right," Jenny agreed. "We've got our ship, the Odette II, docked at the space station out near Pluto. If we HAVE to run eventually, it'll be there."

"We are NOT running," Ririka said seriously.

"I bet that was what your predecessor said," Lynn noted.

"Give me some credit, I have no intention of doing anything THAT stupid," Ririka said wryly, and finished her coffee.

"Here's hoping," Jenny nodded.

To be continued...
