McGonagall began to explain to the class, "This is a review of the materials you should have mastered last year. Some of you will no doubt have to review your past lessons since things only get more difficult from here."

She paused and gestured to a chalkboard where directions shimmered into view. "You will each complete these transfigurations. Anyone unable to complete any one of them in their entirety will have 18 inches of parchment on how to do it correctly… for each transfiguration you are unable to complete."

Ares glanced at the list that had shimmered into view on the board. He always thought that was impressive magic since it was something that both Snape and McGonagall did.

Ares frowned and went over the list. It wasn't overly complicated. He was good at Transfiguration, his skills in later years depended very much on transfiguration and conjuration, seeing it as the safest means of blocking curses, especially the dark ones as they could easily bypass the magical shields.

Ares shook his head slightly, and his wand slid into his hand with a flick of his wrist. The Phoenix head at the end garnered a bit of attention but most of them ignored it. He flicked his wand several times without using the incantation, he transfigured the required items on the list.

McGonagall's eyebrows rose, first in surprise at the sight of a fourth-year with a wrist holster for their wand. She had a perfect line of sight as she watched the new Slytherin student change every single object into the items requested on the board. Without moving his mouth. This was more than a little surprising to her and she made her way over toward the desk where Flamel sat.

Ares looked up when he saw McGonagall step in front of his desk, he watched her expression as she examined the tortoise which had originally been a teapot, the pincushion which had been a hedgehog, the rabbit which had been a pillow, and the pillow which was originally a plain stone. She glanced up and was surprised. Flamel's expression was a combination of apathetic and bored, a far cry from the arrogant and boastful look she would have expected from such a clear display of skill.

"Very well done. Ten points apiece to Slytherin. You've completed the assignment and have no homework." McGonagall stated simply before looking around at her other students. She frowned and moved away as she noted an issue at one of the other tables.

Ares looked around and saw other students doing their work. His eyes lingered on familiar a red-headed girl who had quite a familiar wand in her hand. He saw she did her transfiguration with little effort, probably due to James Potter tutoring her in his favourite branch of magic. He had to accept, Iris Potter had been steps ahead of him compared to what he had been at school.

Now, he was sitting in class with Fake Moody, with all four houses in attendance and watching as the man enlarged a spider and then proceeded imperiousrius the poor animal into jumping from student to student and then dancing it around the room. Ares' front-row row seat to the entire spectacle and saw the delight in the imposter's eyes.

"Imperious curse takes away all free will, and every action the person does revolves around completing whatever they've been commanded with," Faux-Moody stated in a dramatically soft voice.

He pointed at a student behind Ares, and as soon as the student started to speak, Ares knew it was Neville.

"There's… the c..cruciatus… curse," Neville said in a quiet and timid tone.

Moody nodded, "Precisely. Come here." He directed Neville to the front of the class. Neville was about 10 feet in front of where Harry was seated.

Faux-Moody pointed dramatically at the enlarged spider and said firmly, "Crucio!"

Immediately the spider began to squeal and writhe under the onslaught. Neville flinched and squirmed as if held in place.

Ares scowled, knowing the manic glee on the Death Eater's stolen face, was for the pain he was causing Neville. He recalled from the papers that while Neville hadn't lost both parents in this universe, he'd lost his grandmother to the cruciatus curse. He clenched his jaw, expecting Hermione's voice any moment.

Instead, movement out of the corner of his eye drew his attention. He found his attention drawn to Iris Potter as she stepped forward and tugged Neville's sleeve backward and away from Faux Moody,

It took a moment before Faux-Moody realized his immediate audience had been stripped away. He released the channeled cruciatus curse to turn and face the class a scowl on his face.

Ares could hear the fury in Iris Potter's' voice as she pointed at their professor with a finger that was shaking with rage. "I don't know who you are, but you are not Alastor Moody!" Iris practically snarled at the man.

The only thoughts that flashed through Ares' mind, as he observed his tentative plans on how to deal with the Death Eater's plot for the year, crash and burn was, "Well… fuck!"

He didn't remember, With James being an auror, Iris would have been somewhat close to Alastor Moody, thus she was able to tell that he was not real.

Ares registered the way Faux-Moody's face showed just an instant of surprise before tightening immediately. He knew that very moment, that every plan he had for dealing with the Death Eater was gone. Now was the time to act. He was moving even as the imposter's wand came up to fire a curse at Iris Potter, the girl who had just blown his cover to pieces in the middle of the defence room.

Ares wand snapped into his hand and he cast a silent disarming spell at Crouch's curse, deflecting it. He was able to deflect Voldemort's curse with raw power behind Expeliarmus and also when he was just 14, so doing it to Crouch's comparatively weak curse wasn't a big deal.

"Glacies Muri!"

The spell from Harry created numerous thick walls made of ice separating Neville and Iris from Crouch. The walls were transparent to not give Crouch the advantage of surprise.

He was ready to take on Crouch. The only thing that was different here was that there were innocent bystanders around who could be hurt or killed. It brought him a slight amount of hesitation, which he dispelled using the next spell.

"Glacies Cavus Carceries!"

It was the same spell he used to protect Fleur and cursed himself for it a moment later. He had known the last voice he heard while he was teleported off the World Cup Quidditch pitch was Iris'. Fortunately, for now, she had not recognised the spell. It was the perfect counter as it was easy for the person inside to go outside but no one outside or anything else could breach and come into the prison made of ice.

It was quite a good move as the next thing Crouch, who was now in his true form, did was to jump over the Ice walls and launch a barrage of Crucios and Avada Kedavra at the students, probably trying to take out as many students as possible. Fortunately, Ares' spell stood and didn't let the curses pass through it. Ares stepped out warning everyone else to stay inside the block and started exchanging spells with Crouch.

"Anima Serpentia!"

With a flick of his wand, Ares transfigured a desk into a wooden serpent and animated it.

"Immobilissse him!" Ares ordered the snake, who bowed and went to attack Crouch.

He saw the surprise on the faces of the students other than the Slytherins, as his ability of parseltongue was revealed. Of course, he didn't need to use it for Snake to obey him. He did this so that he could get Iris' attention and maybe a way to be close to her to help her.

Crouch just let out maniacal laughter and with an Avada Kedavra, Ares's creation fell to the ground uselessly.

Crouch launched 3 consecutive flesh-rotting curses at Ares, who with a flick of a wand conjured 3 cats made up of ice, each of them containing the curses so that it couldn't be used by Crouch against him during their fight.

Ares didn't want to use flame-related spells in a class filled with wooden objects, so he again tried to animate.

"Anima Leo!"

This time 2 lions were transfigured and animated. Crouch tried the killing curse in them but they dodged easily by jumping away.

"Bombarda Maxima!" Crouch launched the wide-area exploding curse at the animations. This time he was successful in destroying the lions.

Taking advantage of the unbreakable walls and floors of Hogwarts, Crouch kept launching the same spells towards Ares. Before he could be harmed, a chirp was heard and Ares was flammed away by Hedge and deposited just behind Crouch who was still unaware.

Ares, taking advantage launched a bludgeoning Hex at Crouch's shoulder sending him out of the window. He had to because he knew his protective ice construct wouldn't last long as they needed concentration. This way, he put his classmates out of harm.

"Arresto Momentum!" was heard and Ares knew Crouch had saved himself.

"Hedge!" He called as his Phoenix who appeared on his shoulder with a chirp. With a woosh of black flames, he was gone in a moment.

At the same time, the Ice construct from Flamel dissolved.

"Bloody hell!" Ron Weasley shouted his thoughts mirrored by many. Iris was making sure that no one got hurt during the fight. A moment later a look of determination fell onto her beautiful face.

"Accio Firebolt!" She called as her broom came zooming in moments later.

"Iris, Wait-" Ignoring Hermoine's call, Iris rushed out of her window on her broom.

[At the grounds]

Barry launched a spell chain using Bone Breaker, Flesh rotting curse and a Blood boiling curse, quite the second favourite of Bellatrix Lestrange after Crucio.

"Glacies Ave!"

Ares launched 3 projectiles of ice each shattering at contact with curses from Barty but was able to prevent them from reaching him.

It was when Ares noted Iris flying on her Firebolt above Barty and launching her spell.

"Expulso! Expulso! Expulso! Confringo!"

The blue explosive curses along with explosive blasts of fire rained down upon the unsuspecting death eater, who made a round motion with his wand.

"Protago Maxima!" The Death Eater used the strong version of the basic shield charm to protect himself from attacks. Unfortunately, it didn't stood much of a chance against spells from powerhouses like Iris. The shield tanked most of it, but the last curse blasted it into pieces, sending Barty flying from impact.

It seemed to anger the unhinged death eater even more. He pointed his wand at Iris and sent a killing curse at her, probably forgetting his master needed her alive for some ritual.

Iris quite easily dodged the curse, manoeuvring her broom away from where she had been.

"Glacies Hasta!"

Harry sent the spell he used to kill the death eater, who was recognised as Nott senior, on the night of the Quidditch World Cup final.

Barty also recognised the spell if his widening eyes and fear on his face were anything to go by. He recovered immediately and pointed his wand in the path of incoming Ice spear.

"Avada Kedavara!"

Ares was getting irritated which increased more when he saw the killing curse destroy his spell.

At the same time, Iris shot a Stunner at Barth thinking he was distracted. Unfortunately, he dodged in time and looked at Iris with angry eyes.

James, Sirius and Dumbledore have already reached the site and we're going to put a stop to the fight when Barty flicked and stabbed his wind in the air. Ares knew the spell Barty was going to use and it wasn't a pretty thing. He knew Barty didn't have control over it which could lead to be disastrous.

"Fiendfyre!" Barry roared. The cursed flames escaped his wand without any shape unlike Voldemort's Basilisk, who had complete control over it. He knew Barty's attack would be much more devastating without someone able to direct it.

James and Sirius screamed as the flames nearly reached Iris when she was suddenly summoned towards Ares, where Hedge was already on his shoulder. It was a shock to Iris as she knew Wizards or witches couldn't be summoned by the Charm but didn't say anything as they had more important things than that at the time. They were all gone in black flames before the curses flame could reach them.

The flames consumed everything where they had been moments ago. Harry immediately stepped ahead where Iris was being hugged by James and Sirius. He was a bit miffed as they should be helping him, but he supposed he could cut them some slack. After all, they had seen Iris nearly getting consumed by the Fiendfyre.

Ares saw Dumbledore at the sidelines doing nothing, probably to see what he could do and pinched his nose. The man had to set his priorities straight. Area flicked his wand, and a chain made of ice shot from his wand that tore through the fiendfyre and hit Barty. He was pretty sure the death eater was dead, as he had felt him try to apparate after being hit by the ice chain. He probably split his body into two, leaving the chain part behind. Here goes the plan of publicly interrogating Crouch.

His mind then went on still spreading Fiendfyre that James and Sirius were now trying to contain. Dumbledore was still on the sidelines, opting not to do anything. Ares cursed and flicked his wand like a whip towards the cursed flames.

A blue light shot out of Ares' wand into the flames and exploded inside. The flames looked like they too would explode anytime. Finally, Dumbledore did something useful and called upon Aqua Erecto to protect others from the cursed flames.

Before it could explode, Ares slowly formed a fist in his left hand, and to everyone's disbelief, the flames started to shrink.

"Glacies Saphira carceriea!"

A thick sphere of Ice surrounded the flames. Ares was planning to banish it when Hedge chirped and teleported upon the ice. A moment later whole sphere was covered with black flames. Ares would have been worried if he didn't know Hedge was immortal.

A few moments later, the black flames seemed to be sucked inside something. A beautiful trill was heard and the flames disappeared leaving a beautiful full-grown phoenix. Though orange flame-like feathers could be seen flickering among the black of Hedge's.

After some time, the orange was gone and all left was a beautiful black phoenix that flew around Ares and finally settled onto his shoulder giving a melodic trill.

"Hey girl, that was awesome. I didn't knew you could absorb other flames."

Hedge trilled affirmatively and continued to preen and play with his hair.
