Nanaya Shiki possesses a remarkable ability to retain memories from a very young age, which allowed him to recognize the unsettling atmosphere that has surrounded his family for as long as he can remember.
From the tender age of five, the young boy with jet-black hair began his training in earnest alongside his older sister and father. The family took their training very seriously, and the young boy was expected to show the same level of dedication and discipline as his older siblings.
The martial arts practiced by his family were notoriously demanding, pushing the limits of both mind and body. Despite the grueling nature of the training, Shiki never complained and instead approached each session with an unshakable determination to improve.
His dedication and perseverance did not go unnoticed. In fact, Shiki's natural abilities quickly became apparent to his family, and they began to invest even more time and energy into honing his skills. With each passing day, Shiki showed greater potential and a deepening understanding of the art.
As Shiki grew older, his martial arts training continued to expand and diversify. At the age of six, his mother began teaching him the art of knife and sword fighting, and once again, Shiki displayed remarkable aptitude for the discipline.
Through his study of knife and sword fighting, Shiki learned the intricacies of weapon use and the importance of precision and timing in combat. He became a master of technique, able to execute complex maneuvers with ease and finesse.
At the age of six, Shiki experienced death for the first time in his life.
Shiki sprinted at full speed through the forest that surrounded the Nanaya mansion when he spotted a column of smoke rising into the sky. His heart pounded in his chest as he imagined the worst: a fire in his home.
Distracted by the chaos and panic of the moment, Shiki's body collided with someone else's, causing him to tumble to the ground in a heap.
As he picked himself up from the ground, Shiki looked up and saw that the person he had collided with was completely unfazed. He had an imposing stature and well-built physique, with medium-length black hair draping over his right eye.
The man looked down at him with a cold, indifferent expression, as if Shiki was nothing more than an ant in his path.
-"S-Sir, have you seen my father?" -The child asked nervously, holding back tears in his eyes.
As the boy asked him the question, the adult tilted his head to the side, considering his words. Then, a spark seemed to light up in his eye, as if he had just had a brilliant idea.
-"You'll meet him sooner or later."
After saying that, the man stepped aside and gestured for Shiki to go ahead, leaving the way clear for him to go to his home. The boy looked at him with confusion etched on his face, but he got up anyway and started running towards his house, leaving the man behind him.
Every time he got closer, he watched as his house burned down to ashes, making his heart ache with each passing moment.
Finally, Shiki arrived at the entrance of the house, and could only stand there in shock, taking in the sight of his former home reduced to nothing but ashes and rubble. He felt a lump form in his throat, and tears threatened to spill from his eyes, believing that his parents and siblings shared the fate of the mansion.
-"S-Shiki!"
A scream pierced through the air, and Shiki's attention was immediately drawn to the source. He saw his mother, injured and missing her left arm, lying on the ground. She had bruises and cuts all over her body, and her face was twisted in pain.
The boy's heart began to race again as he saw that his mother was alive, already believing that the rest of his family could still be alive. Gathering his strength, he took a step forward towards her, but she let out another agonizing scream.
-"Shiki! You need to ru-"
The scene unfolded before his eyes in slow motion. He saw how a man with short black hair gripped his mother's hair tightly, as a blade made of blood slid across her throat. Shiki's body froze in shock and horror as his mother's lifeless body collapsed to the ground, blood pouring from the wound.
As Shiki's eyes widened in fear, as the man turned his attention to him and started walking towards him, holding a bloodied sword in his hand. He was unable to move as the man got closer and closer. Finally, the man was standing right in front of him, and Shiki could see the cold, lifeless look in his eyes.
The man crouched down in front of Shiki, and put his sword to the boy's throat. He felt the cold steel of the sword against his skin, and he couldn't help but tremble. The man's eyes were dark and empty, and he seemed to take pleasure in the fear he was causing.
Finally, after a few seconds of tense silence, the man opened his mouth to speak.
-"Your name was Shiki, right?" -He asked, with a tone of amusement in his voice, before he glared at the child after not receiving an answer. -"Answer when I talk to you."
-"... Yes." -Shiki replied tiredly, in some way accepting his death.
The man seemed to be considering something in his mind, and after a few seconds he let out a little laugh, indirectly sending shivers down Shiki's spine.
Then, the boy felt the edge of the man's bloody sword move away from his neck. He looked directly at the man, who was looking at him in a way that he couldn't recognize.
-"If you wish to live, then Nanaya Shiki will die." -He declared in a tone that left no room to discuss. -"From now on, you will be Ryuzaki Shiki, am I clear?"
-"... Yes."
Two days later, Shiki found himself sitting in a limousine, with Ryuzaki Naoya sitting in front of him, the man who had murdered his mother and claimed to be his new adoptive father.
To say that he hated the man was an understatement. Shiki despised Ryuzaki Naoya to his core, and every fiber of his being wanted to lash out at him. However, he wasn't foolish enough to deny that the man spared his life, so for now he was forced to live with it.
-"You now have three brothers. The youngest is Daiki, who is younger than you by 1 year. Your sister, Suzune, is the same age as you and your eldest brother is named Atsuomi."
Before he could ask anything, the man looked back at his newspaper, his eyes scanning the headlines. As Shiki silently leaned over to take a closer look, he could see the bold font and striking images on the front page, something about a man saving someone.
ALL-MIGHT SAVES HOSTAGES FROM VILLAINS
The newspaper's title confused the little boy, but when the car came to a halt, he chose to set it aside for the moment. The door beside him opened, and upon closer inspection, he realized that a butler had opened it from the outside.
-"Shiki, come on."
-"Yes sir."
Stepping out of the vehicle, he was met with the sight of a grand mansion that was not too dissimilar from his own. As Shiki gazed at the impressive architecture surrounding him, he couldn't help but notice its distinct European influence. The grandeur of the buildings pointed to a style that was not typically found in this region.
While they approached what appeared to be the entrance, the six-year-old noticed three individuals waiting for them.
One was a butler in his mid-thirties to early forties, with neatly trimmed blond hair and a well-groomed beard. The other two figures standing at the entrance were boys around the same height as Shiki, whom he assumed were his new siblings.
-"Children, introduce each other." -Naoya ordered them.
The girl was the first to step forward, and Shiki took the opportunity to examine her closely. She had black hair like him and her father, and her eyes were a deep shade of brown. As she gazed at Shiki, she smiled from ear to ear and spoke with an excited voice.
-"My name is Ryuzaki Suzune, nice to meet you Shiki-kun."
-"The pleasure is mine… Suzune-sa-"
-"Suzune-onechan." -She interrupted him with a pout, before smiling again. -"Since we're going to be brothers, there's no need to be so formal."
Shiki couldn't quite understand the girl's behavior, but he didn't want to make any assumptions about her without getting to know her first. He decided to ignore it for the time being, as he had many other things to worry about at the moment.
-"Now Suzune, let your brother introduce himself."
-"Ah, right." -She said, stepping to the side, and giving the younger boy room to introduce himself.
The younger boy's demeanor contrasted with his sister's, appearing to be a little bit more timid and reserved. Unlike the rest of the family, his eyes were a striking green color, much like his father's, but he did share the hair color of the rest of the family.
-"I-It's a pleasure to meet you, onee-san." -The younger boy started introducing himself, before bowing his head. -"I am Daiki, I-I hope we get along."
As he stood there, Shiki contemplated the situation he found himself in. When he learned he had siblings, he assumed they wouldn't treat him kindly or would simply ignore him. But seeing the younger brother's timidness and the girl's assertiveness, he couldn't quite figure out how to read his new family.
As they walked towards the mansion, Shiki noticed that his new siblings were not showing any signs of hostility or animosity towards him. In fact, they were talking amongst themselves, occasionally glancing back at him with curious eyes.
This made him feel a bit more at ease, and he realized that maybe this new family wouldn't be so bad after all, even if he was forced to interact with that man.
