Sandstorm over Remnant

Prologue

The city of Vale buzzed with activity as the people prepared for the Vytal festival, the emotion could be felt in the air as both the tourists and the locals waited expectantly for the event that took place every two years. People from all over the kingdoms set time aside for the gran event all wanting to represent their home in one way or another, this was most apparent for the kingdom of Atlas who arrived with all its might for the world to see.

Most people did not mind the large structure above them, the airship and its armada nothing more than a show of power.

Others felt it suffocated the sky, a cruel reminder that if Atlas so desired they could wipe most of them off the ground with their mighty arsenal of weapons and robots. The unfeeling machines roamed the streets as they paraded to put the people at ease, to what degree none could say. But unknowns to the populace and even some of the atlas military, they had a second function. They were on the search for a missing person, a specialist that disappeared roughly twenty four hours ago, General Ironwood's right hand woman.

Winter Schnee had gone missing.

None knew how, it was a simple sweep search. A distraction from the real issues that plagued Vale, a disgraced Atlas scientist was experimenting with gravity dust along with other unknown components. She had been dispatched along with a small team to capture him and confiscate his research for the safety of Vale, as a favor to Ironwood's friend, Headmaster Ozpin. The general suspected that something had gone wrong when he radio silence with Winter reached the hour mark. Dispatching a group atlesian knights to scene confirmed his fear.

The scientist was dead, along with the rest of the crew. Burn marks all over the warehouse seemed to indicate that one of the experiments had gone awry, but the general refused to believe that Winter was dead. There was more that he could not see, so with Ozpin's approval he dispatched some of his robots to the streets to search for his missing soldier. Hospitals where also searched for anyone that matched Winter's profile.

"Any luck with your search?" Ozpin commented as he took a sip from his coffee, Ironwood shook his head. "I fear not… and the crime scene has been picked completely clean. There's no trace nor clue of her whereabouts. I hope she didn't unknowingly walked into something bigger, something that has to do with…"

Ozpin raised his hand "No need to worry about that, I asked the old crow to keep an eye out on the city. If anyone can find her is him, but I suppose that's not the only reason you're here"

Ironwood smiled "You know me too well, no. Specialist Schnee disappearance has only been the first of many anomalies happening across Vale and it makes me nervous… Nervous enough to ask you to actually consider postponing the festival, my scientist claim that they are detecting spikes in electricity all over the area as we speak, converging into the city. While I cannot tell where the center is as of right now, but I fear there's a new weapon from the enemy at play"

Ozpin rubbed his chin as he looked towards the city of Vale "It would cause concern if I postponed such an event, grimm would swarm the city and as you know they have become more active around the city. This is no coincidence I fear, we have to find a way to be discreet about this situation" a beeping sound interrupted them. Ozpin reached for his scroll frowning as he read who it was from, he would not bother him if it was not urgent, the message was a simple one but it carried the urgency that Qrow felt.

"Lighting in the city, Ruby and Little Schnee here. New weapon?"

Ozpin let out a sigh as he stood up, Ironwood looked at his scroll for a moment and then back to the headmaster "I assume both of us know what's happening, I will try to quarantine the area. It might just be a freak natural phenomenon but one can never be too sure" the general said to the headmaster.

"What is Miss Rose doing there?"

"I TOLD YOU WE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE STOREEE!" Ruby screamed as she used her semblance to avoid lightning that erupted all around her. Next to her Weiss parried lightning with ice as she rolled her eyes "Forgive me Ruby! How was I supposed to know that there would be a lightning storm in the middle of Vale you dolt!"

Weiss glared at nothing as she let her anger and let out a sigh "We need to get out of here, I don't think that…" a large explosion shook the area as the lightning began to form into a large ball of pure energy. A blue oval shape from where a familiar person walked out off along with someone unknown, Weiss gasped as she almost dropped her weapon, she wasn't supposed to be here yet!

Winter opened her eyes tentatively, the light hurting her eyes. As her vision cleared, she spotted the objects around her and she fought the urge to cry on the spot "Vale… I made it" she laughed and the crushed the person next to her into a hug "I MADE IT!"

A crow perched itself on a lamppost as it studied the scene.

Winter looked down at her PipBoy as the screen flickered and tried to get a signal, the map feature not working 2Ah it doesn't matter I need to get to Beacon, I need to tell the headmaster there and I also…"

"Winter! I didn't know you would be in the city I am so glad to see you here. I'm sorry if I am interrupting something I just wanted to say hello and…"

The older Schnee sister jumped in fright, slowly turning around as she heard the familiar voice. Weiss coughed into her fist as she blushed "Oh I see you are on a mission then please excuse me, I leave you to it"

Winter could not hold back the tears as she extended her hand to Weiss, hoping that this time this was not a dream. That she would not fade into nothingness like some many time before "Winter, are you all right is something wrong?" Weiss said as she looked at her sister attentively, the bags under her eyes. The scars all over her face and the outfit she wore, not to mention that she did not have her sword on her, instead a weapon that looked like something out of a sci-fi movie.

"Weiss…" no longer able to contain herself Winter wrapped her arms around her little sister and sobbed into her shoulder. Holding onto her out of fear that she would disappear.

Close to them Courier Six watched with a smile at the sweet scene before his eyes, slowly turning around he allowed himself to take in the view. Long buildings that extended to the heaves surrounded him, stores filled with food that he could have only dreamed of or seen in Old War posters and green. Everything around him was so green, nothing like the dust covered cactuses or the faded glory of the old trees from Jacobstown as far as his eye could see everything was paradise, his PipBoy emitted a sound as the information updated.

"Quest complete: Into new horizons. Quest added: The city under the broken moon" Six grinned as he watched as an army of robots approached him, behind him a man with huge fuck off scythe approached him and the wheel of fate began to spin once more.
