Chapter 2: Superstition
Matt sat at his desk looking thru wanted circulars when Doc walked in.
"Your up kinda late, Got any coffee left" Doc Asked
"Yeah, help yourself" Matt replied.
"I was just on my way home by golly I'm tired, You looking for anything special" Doc Asked.
"Well I thought I saw a couple familiar faces in the Long Branch tonight" Matt said
"You find anything" Doc asked.
"No not yet" Matt replied.
"Somebody told me you sent Buck Spencer home a while ago " Doc said.
"Well I did yeah" Matt replied.
"He's back" Doc Chuckled.
"Buck what are you doing back here" Matt asked.
"Well I didn't have no choice I couldn't get home" Buck said.
"Couldn't get home what are you talking about" Matt said.
"Just what I said marshal I couldn't get home" Buck responded.
"Why not" Matt asked.
"You know that cutout by Devil's Draw" Buck stated.
"Yeah" Matt responded.
"There's been a landslide" Buck said.
"A landslide" Matt said.
"Yeah it's blocking the whole road, Ain't no way to get a wagon around it, no way at all" Buck stated.
"Marshal, you gotta let me sleep in the jail tonight" Buck implied.
"I can't do that Buck, I'm liable to need these cells, Doc uhh" Matt said.
"What" Doc replied.
"Well couldn't you" Matt inferred.
"Oh no, you see this here is a situation that comes under the jurisdiction of the office of the United States Marshal, Thanks for the coffee. Buck get a good night's sleep" Doc Said.
"Thanks" Matt said dryly.
"Alright come on Buck" Matt gestured.
"Evening Marshal" Barney said.
"Barney I won't send an answer, It's just a routine advisement" Matt stated.
"I wasn't waiting on an answer marshal, just wanted to tell you that the telegraph wire is out" Barney informed The Marshal.
"When did that happen" Matt inquired.
"10-15 minutes just after that wire come in, yeah probably some buffalo scratching his back on a pole and knocked it over" Barney said.
"Barney I want you to do something for me go up to the Long Branch and find Festus and tell him to get down here as soon as he can" Matt replied.
"You bet" Barney said.
Then Mace Gore & His Gang of outlaws showed up in Matt's office.
