There has been rumblings throughout the South Seas apartment complex that there are new people moving into the recently vacated apartment 20.
Reina Solis has just left her apartment, so she can get a head start on her shift at The Orient Express Restaurant. She had just made her way down the stairs when she got stopped by a voice calling out her name.
Reina turns around to see that her neighbor, Freddy Fernandez, is walking up to her. "You and Tina gonna make it to that beach party tomorrow?" Freddy asks her.
"Yeah, we should be able to." she responds to him. She has that day off of work, so she plans on spending that day with her best friend.
The two have made it to the front gate when the door got kicked open and it sent Freddy to the ground.
"Jesus!" Reina yells out in surprise as her and the mystery guy were helping Freddy up, with the mystery guy apologizing profusely.
"You gotta be the new people in apartment 20, right?" Freddy asks.
"Yeah, I guess so." he replies.
"Hey, Freddy Fernandez, apartment 17." Freddy greets.
"Reina Solis, I'm over at 21." Reina greets.
"Daniel LaRusso." the mystery guy, who is now identified as Daniel, introduces.
"Hey, do you have any other stuff that you need to bring up?" Reina asks him. "It's fine, you don't have to." Daniel tries to refuse, but Reina insists
"No, seriously, is there anything else out there?" she asks him.
"I think there's still a suitcase or two in there, but you don't have to…" Daniel was about to say but Reina already was making her way towards the car. "...do that."
Reina grabs the suitcases that were already placed outside of the car and she makes her way back towards the apartment complex where Freddy is helping out Daniel with the suitcase that he was already carrying.
"Where are you from?" Freddy asks as the three are now walking throughout the complex.
"New Jersey." Daniel tells him.
"Why'd you move all the way to Reseda?" Reina asks him.
"My mom got a job with some company out here. Rocket Computers, Flight of the Future, I don't know." Daniel explains to her.
"I never heard of it." Freddy tells him.
"It's probably a new thing, then." Reina rationalizes. Daniel's response was what clarifies her thinking. "It's up and coming."
"Hey, is this the only pool you guys got?" Daniel asks Freddy and Reina in regards to the musty pool that is barely even filled and has an inflatable swan tube floating around.
"That's it. Tragic, I know." Reina responds to him, patting his shoulder.
"Hey, what was that, karate?" Freddy asks him, changing the subject at hand.
"What? Oh, yeah." Daniel responds as they pass by the pool all the while Freddy is asking him about it.
The only karate dojo that Reina knows is the Cobra Kai dojo that is located near where the Orient Express Restaurant is. Though she doesn't really know that much about the classes, she has heard about the students there, namely Johnny Lawrence.
When it comes to Johnny and his friends, Reina tries not to be in their crosshairs, primarily because of their tendencies to be bullies.
On the other hand, Reina has a gigantic crush on one of Johnny's best friends, Bobby.
She had always thought that he was very cute and out of all of his friends, who are rather reactive, he is the kind of person who would think before acting out, but in her mind, she knows that he wouldn't take notice of her. He, along with his friends, are rather popular and in her mind, she thinks that he would be embarrassed to be seen with her. In fact, throughout her time at West Valley High, she has been too afraid to even approach him.
She, Daniel, and Freddy have made it to the staircase, where they passed the real estate lady and her dog. "This place is a dump. You should go back to New Jersey."
"How'd you know I was from Jersey?" Daniel asks her. Freddy and Reina just stand back with amused smiles.
"'Cause I'm from New Jersey. I got a nose for my own." she tells him.
"Well, what part?" Daniel asks.
"Parsippany. I never should've left." the real estate lady grumbles.
"Parsippany? I got an Uncle Louie's from Parsippany." Daniel tells her, and that piques her interest.
"Louie Fontini?" she asks. "Louie LaRusso." Daniel clarifies.
"Louie LaRusso? Don't know him." she dismisses. After greeting the real estate lady's dog, Freddy got his attention.
"She's crazy." Freddy tells Daniel, lowly, as he helps him carry his bike up the stairs. Reina was following them. "She's not playing with a full deck."
"What are you doing tomorrow?" Freddy asks Daniel.
"I don't know. I guess nothing." Daniel tells him.
"We're having a beach party. Sort of Adios Summer. I was just telling Reina, over here, about it. You wanna come?" Freddy offers.
"Yeah, sure, that's cool." Daniel thanks him.
"Great. I'll come get you in the morning." Freddy tells him.
Freddy sets down the suitcase near the door, and while he left and went down the stairs, Reina stays behind and helps out Daniel with the other suitcases.
"Hey, where do you want me to put these?" Reina asks Daniel.
"Living room's fine." Daniel tells her as he opens the door to get that suitcase in.
"Please don't say anything about the pool, I'll call first thing in the morning." a woman, who is most likely Daniel's mom, tells him.
"Yeah, I apologize about that." Reina hears the voice of her mom say out loud as Reina puts the suitcases on the couch.
Lydia Solis looks over to see her daughter helping out with her neighbor's son. "Ah, you two have met." she says, getting the attention of Daniel's mom.
Daniel looks over at Reina for clarification. "I guess our moms are now friends." she tells Daniel.
"Lucille, this is my daughter, Reina." Lydia introduces.
Lucille shakes Reina's hand. "It's so nice to meet you, sweetheart." Lucille tells her.
"You too." Reina replies with a kind smile before turning to her mom.
"I'm just about to leave for work." Reina tells her mom.
"Have a good day, mi amor. And remember…" Lydia is about to say, but is cut off by Reina.
"Straight back. No ands, ifs, or buts." Reina finishes with a knowing smile as she leaves the apartment to go on about her day.
For Reina Solis, it was just an average day. However, she doesn't realize how much of an impact that her new friend, Daniel LaRusso, is going to have on her life.
