A/N: I only own the OC
Thank you for reviewing!
"What is wrong with you?" Adam asked me as the party raged on around us, and it was a good party... but I wasn't feeling it.
"I am just not here." I admitted and he shook his head.
"If you are thinking about that woman... let it go. She won't get it." he said and I chuckled. I had told him and Max how much I wanted to get to know her. Max had seen me out with her so they knew I was serious.
"Eh." I said with a shrugged and he shook his head before someone pulled him away. I stayed a little longer and then slipped out to walk the streets. New York was such an interesting city. You could walk down the street and meet tourist, pimps, drug users, working class people, and my favorite kind... the desperate. They weren't usually missed.
I eventually went home, and since I lived on the penthouse I was able to access the roof without a problem. I walked out and over looked the city. I guess sometimes I thought of myself as Batman, Superman, or Spiderman... but in truth I was something much worse than any of the villains they ever fought. I saw the light began to change and headed back into my penthouse... I guess that I should rest eventually.
Ashton POV
I was sitting at work watching the hours tick past. I was going to go out tonight with Rhea and Toni. We were going to have a girls night and I could not wait. I was ready for something different. I was pulled from my thoughts when we got a triage call. i worked as an emergency trauma nurse so these calls were never good. I got to the back doors as the paramedics came flying in with a man on a stretcher who looked moments from death. We worked on him, but he was literally drained of the majority of his blood, and the only sign that anything had happened was a tear with puncture wounds on his inner thigh.
"Miss?" a voice said and I turned to see a cop standing there looking at me.
"Yes?" I asked him.
"Can I ask you about the man who just passed?" he asked me and I nodded. I was used to speaking with cops due to being a trauma nurse and normally its homicides that I deal with because it was just part of the job.
"Sure." I said and he gave a small smile.
"I'm Detective McIntyre. I understand that you would on the John Doe?" he asked me and I nodded.
"I did. He came in close to death due to a massive loss of blood, and the only wounds we found were on his inner thigh." I said and he nodded as he wrote everything down.
"Did he say anything to you?" he asked me and I shook my head no. He asked me a few more questions, and then gave me his card.
"If you think of anything else let me know." he said and I nodded.
"Thank you." I said and put it in my scrubs pocket.
"Now, that I have done the official part... would you like to grab coffee?" he asked me and I was not expecting that. He was taller, broad shoulders, had a slight accent, and was sporting a nice beard that complimented his longer hair.
"Sure." I said and he smiled.
"When are you off?" he asked me.
"7." I said knowing that I wasn't meeting Rhea and Toni until 10pm when Toni was off.
"Great, I will be back in about an hour." he said and I nodded. He left and I went back to the nurses station when the head nurse was smirking at me. She was an older woman, and knew that I was single. She was always telling me which patients were hot and that I should talk to them.
"He's cute." she said and I chuckled.
"Be quiet, Vickie." I said and she smirked.
The next hour flew by, and I looked back up to see Drew walking back into the emergency room. He spoke to the person, and they let him through. I held up a finger that I would be right there as I told the next shift what was going on. I finished the shift change over and walked over to him.
"Let me grab my things, and I will be ready to go." I said and he nodded. I changed out of my bloody scrub top, grabbed my things, and went back out to meet Drew. He offered me his arm and we walked out into the cold air.
"Do you have a preference of place?" he asked me and I shook my head no.
"I know a place a few blocks over." he said as we started into Brooklyn. He was easy to talk to as we made our way to wherever he knew of, and we finally went into a place called Emphasis. He got us a booth in the back, and we both ordered coffee. We sat there and talked until 9pm when I realized I had to get back and change.
"I need to go. I have plans." I said and he chuckled.
"That's ok, it was nice to talk to you. Can I talk to you again?" he asked me and I felt myself smile. Drew was a really nice guy. He was originally from Scotland, got into law enforcement when he moved to the state to pursue a dead in wrestling career, and lived in Brooklyn. We exchanged numbers and I quickly walked home. I got to my door and found more flowers. I carried them inside and began to get ready. I didn't have to imagine who they were from, because I already knew. He had been texting me on and off all day.
I changed and went over to Toni's. We were having a girl's night. Rhea was getting the Chinese food, I had the alcohol, and Toni was going to pick when series we binged. I knew that we all needed this night especially since Rhea and Buddy had been fighting on and off all week. He wanted to get married in Australia, and she wanted to get married here. Toni was still seeing Juice, but he was out of town for work so she was slightly depressed. I was just happy to eat a lot of Chinese food and hang out with my friends while I complained about Wardlow not understand that I would text when I could.
