Da Goes Bye-Bye
Annebelle sat on the couch while she sobbed and she pulled some tissues out of the tissue box sitting on the coffee table. She thought back to when Sibeal showed up just a few minutes ago.
"Annie, I need you t'sit down."
"Why?"
"It has t'do with Noah."
"What happened!?"
"As you know… He had t'go t'America."
"Aye. He said it had t'do with his job. But not a job makin' furniture."
"Wait. You know?!"
"He told me everyythin' before he left."
She knew Noah had his secrets, but he told her he was afraid she would take the twins and leave if she learned the truth. She told him he was just being silly, but she was shocked when he finally told her the truth.
"Well… It appears he was caught."
"Is he alive?"
"Aye. But he's not comin' home anytime soon. Or at all."
"What does that mean?"
"If he is convicted? He might be sentenced t'life in prison."
"An' what about me an' th'boys!? What will happen t'us?!"
"I assure you I'll make sure nothin' happens."
"How can you say that?! If they learn about us….! If people he was after finds out….! They will take them from me or kill us!"
"You'll jus' have t'trust me."
"I don't."
She looked at her two-year-old twins standing at the window and they had their hands on the glass. They had been standing there since Sibel left and she wondered what they were thinking. They turned their heads to look at her when they walked to the couch, carefully climbed onto the cushions and she placed them on her lap. Sibeal had tried to explain to them what had happened, but she wasn't sure if they fully understand what was going on.
"Da bye-bye," Connor said, leaning his head against her chest.
"Aye," Annabelle said, kissing the top of his head.
"Mama?" Murphy asked then paused and she saw the sadness in his eyes. "We bad?"
"No. You are not bad. Why would you ask that?"
"Dada bye-bye."
"Aye. But that doesn't mean you were bad."
"Then why?"
"Da did some bad things," she explained and Murphy leaned his head against her chest.
"He come back?" Connor asked.
"No," she said while tears rolled down her cheeks.
"No cry, Mama," Murphy said, softly, and she kissed the top of his head.
She looked at them as she silently prayed for them to not to follow in their father's footsteps and she gently wrapped her arms around her little angels.
