Chara smiled as she took a step back into him. "Don't worry," he said, "I'll protect you."
Frisk -Harriet- nodded her head, and took a deep breath even as her vision blurred as the flower continued its speech. Its high-pitched voice grating on her ears. Chara outstretched the hand holding hers, and lifted a small glowing red heart.
"See that heart? That's your Soul, the very culmination of your being! Your Soul starts off weak, but it can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV!" The Flower giggled as it spoke.
"Whats-"
The flower, Flowey, cut her off. "What's LV? Why LOVE of course~! You want some LOVE, don't you? Don't worry. Down here, LOVE is shared through little white.. 'friendliness pellets.'"
He and Frisk was assuming it was a he, smiled a big and wide grin that reminded her of her Uncle's sister Marge.
"Are you ready?" the Flower said, summoning little white 'friendliness pellets' in a circle around her. "Move around! Catch as many as you can!"
Chara stood back from Frisk and watched her reach for the white bullets that would cause her harm. He had seen into her Soul, seen her abuse at the hands of her family. He would turn that fear of humans into rage, and all he needed was for Flowey to crush that last spark of hope within her.
Frisk reached out, and touched the white 'friendliness pellets' eager for love, only where they touched her burned and cut into her fingers. Blood spattered the floor, her blood, and Flowey began to laugh.
"You IDIOT! In this world, it's Kill or Be Killed! Why would ANYONE pass up an opportunity like this?! Die." Flowey laughed and laughed and laughed and circled her with more of those same white bullets.
She felt her knees weakening and slunk to the ground. "Cha-"
Her call for help was cut off by a fireball blasting away the cackling flower.
"Such a hideous creature, torturing such a poor innocent youth," said a voice, softer than Frisk had heard in her life, softer than her Aunt Petunia used on Dudley. She looked up and saw a blurry white figure dressed in what Frisk could only imagine as a purple robe. "Ah, do not be afraid, my child. I am Toriel, Caretaker of the Ruins. I pass through this place every day, to see if anyone has fallen down."
Chara helped Frisk to her feet, healing her of her injuries.
"Come, I will guide you through the catacombs, this way," Toriel said while turning and walking through the opposite door.
He held her hand tightly and guided her along.
Toriel spoke of puzzles that Frisk couldn't see with her blurry vision, but Chara just laughed in her ear and led her through them. Helping her hit the switches necessary to unlock the way through. Still, Toriel led them forward until they came to a room with a Dummy in it.
"As a human living in the Underground, monsters may attack you. You will need to be prepared for this situation, worry not! The process is simple. When you encounter a monster you will enter a fight. While you are in a fight, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time, I will come to resolve the conflict. Practice talking to the dummy." Toriel placed her hands on Frisk's shoulders and gave her a little nudge towards the dummy.
"You encounter the Dummy," Chara says plainly. "You have a few options now. We could talk to it, or we could FIGHT"
Frisk weighed her options, the stick felt heavy in her hand.
"It's just a dummy," Chara said. "It's not like it would hurt anybody. You could take out your frustrations."
Frisk lifted her hand and struck.
