She looked around as the pink peridot led her deeper into the massive structure, hundreds of gems going in and out of the various doors, she stopped and stared at a mural above a large diamond shaped door. The tall purple gem stared at it, the mural showing a being with a two pointed hair style and a diamond shape on her chest holding two stars, one with three planets and the other with four, seven planets above the being's head, the pink peridot having to grab her hand and pull her towards the large diamond shape door, a small lithe yellow gem standing on a floating half pod, an energy shackle keep her in place. "Ninth sub level, testing bay six". The lithe being began turning around and robotically inputting a code into a panel next to the door, said door sliding open with a heavy hiss and groan. Towering gem watching in a mixture of confusion and unease as the lithe gem floated into the small room, the pink peridot binging her into it as the door slid shut, "ummmmm what's wrong with her?" the purple gem whispered to the peridot as the room they where in started to move downwards. "That would be one of the colony supervisor's pearls, they tend to get stuck in whatever duty they were assigned" the taller gem looked back at the pearl, her eyes always open and a soft smile on her face.
The pearl said nothing as the two other gems stood in silence for the better part of four hours, the taller of the pair looking around nervously, soon the lift came to a halt, the door sliding open and the pearl speaking in a soft yet robotic tone "ninth sub level testing bay six, please enjoy your stay" the pink peridot stepping out of the lift and the purple gem following looking behind her to look at the pearl as the door slid closed. The hallway being long and with many doors on the sides, the peridot leading her to a door at the end of the hallway, the door opening silently and revealing a large round room with various mechanical arms with sharp look tools. The towering gem gulping loudly cause the pink peridot to look at her and to speak to calm the clearly nervous gem down, "do not worry, we are not using any of those devices on you, just go stand in the middle platform". The taller gem takes a deep breath and steps onto the center platform, deep purple eyes darting left and right nervously as the pink peridot stepped behind a control panel.
The towering gem gulps as the peridot pressed some buttons causing the ring of robotic tools to spin before stopping on one that had a boxy device on it, three long sharp nails on it and a single black sensor. The tall purple gem gulping loudly and looking around nervously as the peridot turned a dial to bring the device closer to her, "just relax and stand still and make sure your gem is in focus". The towering gem looks at the purple gem on her chest and takes a deep breath, puffing out her chest a bit as the device gets closer to her gem, the three needles gently tapped against the surface of her gem, "now you will feel a tingling, this won't hurt a bit", the device started to hum, the black sensor glowing a soft blue, her whole form starting to feel all tingly as the device scanned her gem down to her core. The pink peridot's eyes went wide as the data started to come in, none of the known three hundred and four gem types matched the gem that was standing in the central platform. "This is amazing, your data is completely new, the colony supervisor needs to see this, but first your gem type needs a name….," the peridot thought for a few moments before smirking" "..welcome to Yellow diamond's court Eridium nine x eight"
The pink peridot was now leading her back to the lift as the tests had ended, Eridium thinking of the name she had been given, she liked it, it sounded right to her. Peridot tapping a button on the side of the panel the pearl had used "Peridot seventy seven x Nineteen requesting access to colony supervisor's quarters" the two gems waited for the lift to arrive as Eridium looked around a bit. "Sooooo ummm who's Yellow diamond?" the pink peridot did not seem surprised the Eridium didn't know, "she is our diamond, one of three that rules over all of gemkind, she is the most ruthlessly logically of the three, using her cold intellect to devise the best way to solve an issue", Peridot took great pride in explaining this to the younger gem, "how long have you served her for?" the purple gem tilted her head, "simple, I have been in her radiant service for one thousand five hundred and sixty two years". Eridium's eyes went wide, "wow we can live that long?" "Longer", the sound of the lift's door sliding open cut their conversation short, the pearl hovering in the center of the lift, "Peridot seventy seven x nineteen, your request to see the colony supervisor has been approved".
The ride up the lift was boringly similar to the ride to the testing bay, only longer the purple gem growing bored as neither of her fellow gems where talking, Peridot clearly going over what she was going to say to the colony supervisor, the pearl standing in complete silence, the dark lift tunnel soon leading to windows that opened up the tunnel to the whole world, Eridium staring in wonder as she stared at the skyline. She could see so many things, the sprawling canyon she found herself in, a myriad of strange towering devices moving from one place to another, she could see sharp jagged cliffs and a large mountain in the distance. The lift soon ending in a large room, a door at the other end of it, the pearl hovering over to it and opening it for Eridium and Peridot, the pink peridot leading her into a room, a throne in the center with four of pearls that all looked similar to the lift pearl all typing something on floating holograms.
Peridot clears her throat "my Uranium, I have very special report for you" the throne slowly turned to face them, the gem sitting on it a greenish yellow and wearing a yellow and black leotard with matching gloves, her long hair a mix of yellow and lime green locks "I'm listening Peridot, but make it quick, this planet's wildlife just destroyed the shipment of warp pads and Honeycomb agate is yelling something about her pearl getting swallowed whole by one of the beasts".
"Of course my Uranium, this is a new type of gem we have discovered in facet nine of the tau kindergarten, I have taken the liberty to name this gem type Eridium, the chemical makeup of her gem shares a lot in common with…" the pink peridot was cut off by Uranium snapping her fingers five times "hurry it up seventy seven x nine I need to write up a request for the pyrite guard to reinforce our main colonization force, what can she do?". Peridot stutters a bit, before regaining her composure,"...of course, the data from her gem, suggests that each eridium is capable of a wide ranges of jobs, this could be the most flexible gem type is the history of the authority, but Eridium nine x eight's data says she is primarily a courier", Uranium cocked an eyebrow "mmmmm get her a uniform and ship her to homeworld, I want a full report of this to our diamond before the end of this cycle".
