Chapter 25
Turn?
I saw myself trying to convince everyone around me of what had happened that night, now eight months ago. I saw how I went to my room and there I saw Jo explaining to me what he was. I perceived my own thoughts, which were not mine after all. That I knew and would have told everyone. How I was thinking about betraying the vampires! I didn't understand, but I didn't dare think about it. Aro could still hear my thoughts!
Aro let go of me with a jerk, he looked at me in shock!
"Incredible!" he whispered. "My young friend! Edward, I do hope that you will give immortality to this lovely lady in the near future. Otherwise, we will be forced to do so," he then said.
I heard the threat clearly.
Edward began to growl softly, but I mentally talked him into being quiet.
I don't think I was the only one who did, because he stopped.
"We haven't talked about it in detail yet, but if Bella wants me to, I'll make her one of us, yes!" he replied, and it made me kind of sad.
It sounded to me like he didn't want this anymore.
Edward, of course, overheard my thoughts. He squeezed me a little tighter and whispered a "Later" to me.
We took another step back again and waited for Aro's verdict.
"Very well, my young friends. I see that the situation has changed. Jonath really seems to have saved us from betrayal by telling the lovely Isabella about us. And by Isabella becoming an immortal in the near future, there is no danger from her."
He began to grin.
I did not suspect anything good.
"However, there is still one mortal among you who knows about us - and this is a problem that must be solved."
Dad, it popped into my head.
I was about to say something when Edward quieted me with a "Shh."
Carlisle now took a step forward and began to speak.
"Aro, there's nothing to worry about. No one has told this man ..." he pointed to Charlie, "anything about us. He found out shortly after we arrived here in Forks, and he accepts it. He doesn't want to share our fate, we all know that, and because of him there's no danger that he would betray us. Do you think he would betray his own daughter?", Carlisle asked him.
Aro looked a little confused!
"Didn't you read it in Bella's mind? That's her father!" he said emphatically.
"Oh yeah, now that you mention it. I hadn't been paying attention!" said Aro, which confused me.
I had not revealed anything to him about my father.
I turned my head to Edward, the questions in the view, even if he could hear them anyway. The latter, however, only shook his head, barely noticeable.
'Later?' I asked him in my mind.
He nodded!
As Aro continued to speak, I turned my head back to him.
"That changes things, of course. But one thing is certain ..." now he looked at Charlie, "if you ever reveal our secret, it will be the last thing you do. Understand?"
His voice was ice cold.
Charlie, however, nodded just as coldly.
"Very well, my dears," he now spoke kindly again. "There is no need to inflict punishment here. Let us be on our way!"
"Oh Edward!" another vampire now spoke.
He also wore a long robe like Aro, but had blond, almost white hair.
"I would advise you to turn this human being in the not-too-distant future. There is no second chance!", he said indifferently and coldly.
His face showed no emotion. He seemed bored.
Edward growled again.
"Don't worry, Caius, I wasn't going to!"
He sounded very angry; the words also came out of his mouth only growling.
Caius, however, now grinned and turned around.
The Volturi disappeared into the forest.
"Bella, you're just great!" exclaimed Alice as she rushed up to me and hugged me.
"Why me?"
I was confused.
"Bella, you just used your vampiric gift to tell Aro a lie," Edward told us as we all sat down on the couch in the living room. "Jasper did help you, but you must have a very strong gift if it's already showing up in you as a human."
I saw the pride in his eyes.
Everyone looked at me in amazement - everyone except Alice, Jasper and Edward, who already knew what I had done.
"I will have a gift as a vampire?"
Somehow this pleased me, and I looked at Edward happily.
"A very powerful one, my angel," he said before kissing me stormily.
