The hour of darkness had come at last as the soft and fading light had crossed the horizon to bid the world goodnight. Now, all was silent and at rest. The shimmering stars and full moon rose into the heavens to bathe everything in its tranquil, captivating glow. It was such a beautiful evening for a midnight stroll, but too many had shut themselves away to wait for the sun to rise the next day.
However, two young college-age students were in a candlelight loft atop a Gothic-style building. They alone relish the moonlight more then anything else, for it brought them comfort and life as they couldn't stand the sunlight. The young couple looked between eighteen and twenty-one, the age one expects the average college student to be.
They both favor the Gothic atheistic, given their appearance. Not to mention, their mode of transportation was a hearse! If that didn't scream, they preferred the supernatural and death. Nothing else did. Through the enormous bay window, you'd notice their home decor looked old-fashioned. For example, all their furnishings remained antique. Again, they had no electric lights and mostly the retro look of previous eras.
The ravishing brunette nestled closer to her ebony-haired true love. He sighed happily as he kissed her forehead. Today was memorable for the couple as it celebrated their anniversary of becoming a couple. However, this was their 22nd anniversary! Which again was peculiar given they didn't look any older then college-age students! But the couple had a secret they were determined to keep.
The gorgeous girl asked the same question she did every year upon this date. Her soulmate's answer never changed, yet she still felt after all this time, she needed to ask. "Merton?" she spoke calmly as they started to become intertwined in a loving embrace.
"Yes, Cassandra?" he replied calmly, stroking her long silky brown hair.
"I know I've asked for over two decades now. But are you still sure of your path to be with me? Again, becoming a vampire isn't an easy choice. Nor is leaving all you knew and love behind," she asked nervously, gazing into his eyes.
Merton only smiled before kissing her forehead before answering her question. "Cassandra, I wish you wouldn't ask again. You and I were meant to be. All I asked is you didn't go after Tommy again before we sealed everything with a vampire kiss. We've found other werewolves to feast upon. This led me to create a synthetic werewolf blood to sustain us eternally. Therefore, we don't have to hunt them anymore. So no, I don't regret relinquishing my humanity for you.
After all, I cannot kill my soulmate. Which is the only way I'd return to being human. Not to mention, all twenty-two years would catch up immediately on me. I'd be instantly forty years old!" he replied, shuddering.
"I'm still amazed we're able to pull it off. That you controlled your blood lust long enough to make your friends Tommy and Lori believe you slayed me. Instead of kissing me. Thus, turning yourself back into a vampire who lives off werewolf blood."
"Well, leaving home wasn't much of a problem. Again, to everyone in Pleasantville, I was an outcast, the town oddball. Leaving my friends and family behind was hard at first. On the other hand? I was already eighteen, so I was a legal adult. Therefore, I could go wherever I wanted. So, it isn't like they could report me as a runway."
"Nope, they couldn't. It's been a hard life as we've traveled the world finding and feeding on werewolves. Again, I'm pleased we've settled down. Thanks to you figuring out how to make artificial blood nourish us."
"The only challenge is we can only stay in one place for a few years. Yes, some individuals stay youthful-looking, which isn't the issue. Regardless, we must avoid attracting the unwanted attention of normal humans or vindictive werewolves."
"Either way, I couldn't be happier. Right now, in this place and time, we can be ourselves. So let's drink some blood wine to celebrate our twenty-second anniversary, and then we can watch our favorite vampire movies!" Cassandra giggled happily.
"Of course, my precious, of course," as Merton went to the fridge to retrieve their synthetic werewolf blood to drink and a few different snacks to satisfy them as they watched the black and white film "Nosferatu." All was well with the vampire couple.
