"How long do you have?" Everett heard a voice. He looked up, seeing his older blood brother. The room was dark and his brother having the dark skin he had didn't help his vision.

"Probably some hours at this point." He sighed. Everett couldn't feel much except himself slipping in and out of consciousness. "How's Kate and the baby?"

"They're good. She told me to send you her love. Her and the baby are at her moms."

The cancer had taken over his body within only a matter of months. Now here he was, twenty years old with life ahead of him. Only that wasn't the case, he was in the hospital and slipping in and out of death surrounded by no one but his brother. He had gotten over the fear of dying when they had told him he only had a few months to live. He had struggled his whole life. His entire life was surrounded by suffering. Being diagnosed with cancer at 12, falling in and out of remission. His mom was dead, his father was god knows where after all these years and his brother was the only source of family he had and he was leaving him behind. Him and his brothers were practically homeless, getting by on scraps of food. It wasn't until his brother had finally landed a job that he saved up enough to afford a tiny apartment for the two of them. Then on, Everett would get his own job at a tech company. He was always good with technology, and electronics. He wanted to take a major once he saved up for college, only that didn't happen obviously. He also began to train in boxing when he was 17 and found it to be a natural talent, fighting in a couple tournaments in the time he predicted would be short. He wasn't bad at it, he had great defense a coach once told him, but his offense wasn't great.

Everett was a twenty year old man. Around six-one, slim and lean muscular build and always been fairly handsome to women although he's barely ever had a girlfriend. His what would be neatly twisted dreads were now fizzled and almost completely unrecognizable his stubble facial air was completely disheveled and a complete mess.

Nobody ever really cared about Everett but Aston. He never really had friends and he was always in the corner, quiet. While Aston was the social one, knew everyone and everyone knew him. Always accomplishing his goals. People had always asked Everett if he were ever jealous of Aston.

Never, is what he would say.

"I'm sorry Aston." Everett let it escape his lips. "I'm sorry, because I'm leaving you alone. This is not how it should've been."

He saw his older brother look at him. The pain in his eyes could only be told by only him, an pain and grief stricken expression wore his face. "Don't apologize man, please don't."

Everett could only weakly sigh.

Aston continued. "Your last months have been nothing but pain E. I...I can't imagine what you've had to go through and to see..." A tear escaped his eye. He had only saw Aston cry once. And that was at Mom's funeral. It was almost fifteen years ago. "To see it kill you...it isn't fair. You deserve better than this man."

"You'll do fine without me Aston, you've always have."

"Shut up, that isn't true."

"You've always done more than me. You'll manage-"

"You know what motivates me?" Aston cut him off. Everett closed his mouth and didn't. Aston looked at him before realizing he wasn't going to answer. "Your strength is what always stood out to me. Always willing to do anything, never backed down from anything no matter how scared you were. You may have not been the strongest physically, but your soul and spirit have always been able to lift tons."

Everett didn't say anything. And then he did. "Promise me."

Aston looked over. "Promise what?"

Aston's gaze didn't reach him until a moment or two passed by. "Promise me you'll be ok E."

"I...I promise." Aston said feeling his own tears. "I promise..."

Hours seem to go by, and Everett could only feel death getting closer and closer. He felt his body begun to shut down, taking all of his energy to even speak. Aston still lied besides the bed.

"I'll..." Everett softly said. "I'll always love you...Aston." The last thing he saw was his brother teary eyed face with his girlfriend's hands on his shoulder.

He faded into darkness...

He felt a breeze.

Then another.

And another one.

He awoke, in a soft field of freshly cut grass. The wind whipped at his face, softly touching it with nature's kiss. He sat up to see a castle, wondering how he was still alive in a strange new world. Something wasn't right. He was dead. How the hell is he still alive and breathing?

Blinking, he quickly looked at his hands. Although...they were bigger? More defined and his muscles practically ripped open when he flexed. He looked at his now defined muscular arm. He was so in shocked. The tattoo of his mother's name he had gotten on his bicep was stretched to fit the muscle. He looked in shock, never was his arms these big when he was alive, or whatever he was then. Can't say he's dead when he's literally breathing and standing

Everett almost panicked before running away from the large castle that was in the distance, he ran into some woods. Feeling thorns and sharp edges of tree branches dig and cut his arms up, he ran as fast he could. He spotted a lake and almost tripped in front of it.

Landing flat on his face, Everett quickly crawled towards the lake looking at his reflection. He looked the same in the face. His shoulders were much broader than what he used to have, his dreads that were messy were now neat and tight almost as if they couldn't be undone. His ears...were pointy? When did that happen? Where the hell is he to have elf ears?

He had a medieval cut off shirt that showed the power in his new arms. He lifted up his shirt to see rock hard abs. He used his knuckle to pat on them. Surely enough, they were as hard as they looked. His dark skin reflected off the high afternoon sun, making it visible to see the outline in between each ab.

Dropping his hand and his shirt hid his abs, he began to look around and take in the scenery. On his left there was a two mountains that looked that it had been cut clean down the middle, perfectly leaving a path between them with a stream of river separating the pathways. In the distance he could see a volcano that had been covered in lava.

"Where the hell am I?" Everett asked himself. He began to walk around. The weather was beautiful, the sun was hot but the wind did it's part to make sure it filled the suns raging heat. Over the river he spotted what looked like...pig monsters? "What are..those?"

They had pig like faces, but they stood on there legs and had long arms. They had a bunch and they're head was almost too big for they're body. They hopped around with sticks in they're hand around a fire. There were three. One blue, one red and one white.

They didn't look friendly, so Everett took a hint and walked in the other direction. He walked for about five minutes before noticing he was a little taller. He looked down at his feet, which were hidden beneath some brown medieval looking shoes, his pants stopped just enough to cover his knees. He shook it off before continuing to walk.

Coming up on a bridge, he practically leaped up the stairs and walked slower than his pace he had before. The castle had seen was now back in view. It was huge, nothing like he's ever seen before. His hand slide along the stone before he stopped at the middle of the bridge. He looked at the stream below, the fish swam around in a way that he found comforting to look at. He felt himself began to look more over and over until he found himself standing on the ledge, he felt sweat slide down the side of his face as he began to move closer.

The next thing he heard was a blood curling scream. It had instantly snapped him out of the trance he had been in, he hopped of the ledge before he heard it once again before ran towards the direction of it. He finally peered around the corner to see to two people and one of those things.

A woman was fighting off the monster while another women was trapped under a fallen tree. He quickly looked around before seeing a tree branch. He picked it up, wondering why it felt so light. He ran towards the monster before bashing the branch on it's head. The power from Everett's swing had sent the monster straight to the ground. He made sure to put his all into the last swing when he brought it down on the monsters head. The branch broke on impact but the monster was surely dead. He threw the broken branch aside before catching his breath.

"Wow, nice swing!" The woman exclaimed excitedly. She had white hair and a lot of it. She had a weird hat that reminded him of Chinese tradition. A weird mark on her face, she was incredibly slim but not bad looking. "That thing almost got us, you just got here in time. Thank you."

"Yeah. No problem." Everett replied.

"Hello!?" The woman said. The two turned around completely forgetting about the other women that was trapped under the tree branch. This women also had white hair. "Are you gonna just lallygag Impa? Or are you gonna help me get this tree off me?"

"Impa" jumped up and began to try to move the tree but just her alone wouldn't help. Everett walked over before placing his arms firmly around the tree before moving it with Impa. He was surprised the tree he lifted was relatively light. They dropped it a couple feet away from them before helping the women get up. "Finally. Check it! I'm Purah, and this is my litter sister Impa."

"Everett..." He sound loud enough for her to hear. The women had a strand of red in her cloud white hair and she was oddly short compared to her little sister. "Nice to meet you..."

"Everett..." The women named Purah said. His name rolled off her tongue perfectly before she scanned him up and down. "I've never seen you around before. Where are you from?"

Shit. He hadn't thought of that. He didn't even know where he was, he had just woke up in a field after dying from cancer but he had a higher chance of catching cancer a second time before these two believed him.

"I'm uh...homeless. I don't really have a home." He lied.

"Homeless? You don't have family?"

"Nope."

"Friends?"

"Not really."

"Girlfriend?" Purah asked.

"Purah!" Impa said with a cringey look on her face.

He blushed. "No. No girlfriend."

The two women looked at each other a second before returning they're look on him. The both inspected him with they're eyes, before the taller woman spoke.

"That was quite the display of strength back there. Even some of the mightiest soldiers of Hyrule couldn't take a monster out in less than three hits." Impa eyed him suspiciously. "Homeless huh...how does someone homeless like you, get all that muscle?"

"I'm not quite sure either." He said half truthfully. Purah even squinted her eyes more at that. An awkward minute or two had passed after that and the silence was making Everett anxious. "Look, I've got somewhere to be. I'm glad I could be of help."

He turned around in the opposite direction and began to walk rather quickly. "You're a strange one Everett," he heard Purah shout "I'm sure we'll see each other around."

Hyrule? That sounds oddly familiar. Everett thought making sure those two were out of site. Why does that name sound familiar? He's sure he heard around somewhere when he was alive...or whatever he was before all this. He didn't know what to believe no more.

He began to see more people around the land as he walked into a little settlement, not batting a look at them as they were faceless to him and no one stuck out because he didn't know anyone here. He walked faster and faster until he was out of the village and began to walk at his normal pace.

What would he do? He was in a new world, with a upgraded body it seems, apparently he can kill monsters now. He didn't know what to believe, he had no recollection of being here in Hyrule or whatever they called it.

Could he even kill himself? What if he were to just wake up in the same spot again? Or what if he woke up in something worse? Like actual hell? His mind rambled. One minute he was talking to his brother, the next he was killing some kind of creature and talking to very weird good looking women.

Brother. Everett stopped in his tracks. He'd been so caught all up in trying to grasp what was going on he had forgotten about Aston. His heart beat a hurtful beat and he shook his mind off of it. Maybe when he got out of here, he could see him again. Although that was highly unlikely, he was practically in purgatory.

"Hey you!" He stopped in his tracks to the unfamiliar voice. He looked around before seeing a young teenager. He was dressed in some weird clothes with a hat on top. "You! Over here, I could use some help!"

Everett sighed before walking towards the what seemed to be younger man. He hoped he knew what he was getting himself into. The young man was quite a distance so it took a minute or two to take in his face when Everett was close enough.

He had a clean pimples teenage face, he was scrawny and he was dressed as some type of horse hand. Spots of black hung from the bottom of the hat that indicated that he black hair. "What can I do for you?" Everett shyly asked.

"I work at a stable, and I was wondering if you could cut this tree," The man handed Everett an axe. "I've tried countless times, but I just can't cut through it."

Everett looked at where he was cutting the tree. Poor guy couldn't even get it half way it looks. He nervously looks at the guy to indicate that he's about to swing. The man backs up. Everett builds up the strength he can muster before holding the axe up, with a loud growl he swung the axe as hard as he can.

He could barely feel it cut through the tree, when he cleanly sliced through the tree. He was shocked to see how easy he could do that and the man behind him was just as shocked.

"Wow! I've never anyone cut through a tree that clean!" The man said walking up next to him. "How did you do that?"

Everett froze. "Uhhh, I put my all into it."

The man rose his eyebrow before bursting into laughter. "With those arms, I would've expected as much. I need one last favor and I could make it worth your while."

"What is it?"

"Could you carry it to the stable. It's just over this field." He said pointing. "I didn't catch your name by the way."

"Everett."

"Well Everett, I'm Boto." The smaller man put his hand out before Everett shook it lightly. "Well, I suppose we oughta get to walking. The stable is just over this hill."

Everett had bent down before picking the tree up with ease. He tucked it under his armpit on a smooth part that he wouldn't be getting stabbed by the bark. "So, what's at this stable?"

Boto looked back with visibly confusion. "You don't know what stables are? You are indeed a weird one. Not a problem, because I am an expert! Stables are where travelers can spend the night with their horses."

So like a pit stop like back at home where truckers can stop whenever. It felt like forever since he saw a vehicle of any kind. Heard any kind of engine, and it had only been a day. "Makes sense."

He carried the entire log across the field and not once did his strength waver. They had finally made it to the stable when he had put it down. The rough log had bruised and cut up his shoulder a bit but he didn't mind much.

"Yes! Thank you, here's 100 rupees!" Boto dropped weird colorful gems in his hand which he guess was the money around here. He pocketed it before turning to leave but the man stopped him again. "I owe you more than that sir. Would you like some dinner and a bed to sleep in? On the stable."

Everett turned around before thinking. It was true that he didn't have a bed to sleep tonight or anywhere for that matter. "Ok. I appreciate it."

Boto smiled. "Great, tell me about yourself Everett! Family? Friends? Lover?"

Everett sighed. "No family. No friends. Just me. Always has been."

Boto's smile died quickly before he looked into the fire. "I hear ya, only piece of family I got is that doofus over there by the horses." He was taller than Boto, slim and very well clumsy as he dropped the utensils followed by a bunch of cuss words.

A paper on the side of the Stable had caught his attention and he was glad he was close enough to read it:

Strength Competition! Don't miss the annual Hyrule strength competition located at the Coliseum this Saturday! Watch the strongest and toughest compete! In order to register you must be 18 years of age and you must register at the coliseum a day before.

Boto caught him looking. "Caught ya eye huh? I heard royalty is going to be attending."

Everett raised his eyebrow. "Royalty?"

Boto nodded. "Yeah, like the King and Princess Zelda. People in the higher ups, I heard since it was canceled last year I heard it's going to be doubled attendance."

Zelda? ZELDA? He had put it together. He was stuck in the fucking Legend of Zelda. He couldn't stop the palm that he had smacked across his face hoping no one would notice.

"And we're getting front row seats." Boto's brother had butted in the conversation. He had a tool in his hand and dirt smudged on his fingers. He looked at Everett with a neutral expression. "I believe we haven't met yet. I'm Olas."

"Everett." The two shook hands.

"Strong grip. Seen ya looking at the poster, maybe with arms like that you'd win the competition." Olas said.

Boto scoffed. "He'd have to get past the Gorons. They are freakishly strong. You don't want to be in the middle of that."

"Is this the same man that carried a tree log a mile across the field?" Olas asked. Boto went to open his mouth before closing it and looking at the fire. "Gorons have been bested by Hylians before. Though there are rare occasions that they are taken down by brute force instead of the occasional swords and spears."

"I can do it." Everett knew what he was saying was a mistake. All this time he's realized that this was a second chance and if that were true he'd have to take the most of his opportunities. "Maybe...maybe I can do something with my life."

"Your basically asking for a deathwish," Boto said. "When they put you in that ring to fight that Goron he will destroy you. Why are you accepting this?"

"Because..." Your strength is what always in stood out to me. You may have not been the strongest physically, but your soul and spirit have always been able to lift tons.

Promise me you'll be okay E.

"...Because I made a promise to someone."

The two brothers were silent. Everett stared up at the two.

"Are y'all going to help me train for this thing?"

Olas smiled. He waved his hand over before walking away. Everett almost sprang up to follow him, the three made their way to a gigantic rock. Well, it wasn't really a rock, more or so a boulder the size of a normal house. Olas led them to where it was and they were almost dwarfed by it.

Olas turned to him with a smirk. "If you even so much as move this boulder, I'll let you participate in the competition."

Everett scoffed. "Who are you to say I can't?"

Olas's grin didn't fade nor falter. "Well someone has to represent you, you can't be on your own those are just the rules man. Move the boulder or no competition."

Everett's eyebrow furrowed and he gritted his teeth. He went towards the boulder before grabbing an edge that split off which was perfect to grip. He wasn't going to just move it, he planned on flipping it. He didn't see it as impossible, for gods sake he carried an entire tree by himself. He began to try and move it but it wouldn't budge. Come on! He did it again before he felt his legs give out.

Olas chuckled. "It's pointless kid, you aren't going to move it." Everett strained before letting go. He looked at Olas who still had that shit eating grin. He wouldn't let this asshole win, no he wouldn't. He scowled and mentally punched himself. He marched over the the spot on the boulder before gripping it.

With all of his might, he began to strain himself to lift it, feeling his feet dig into the grass. He felt the boulder move. Now to put my all in it! He had a burst of strength that ran through him and he began to feel the boulder lift and that's when he began to gain the confidence back. He lifted it before maneuvering himself under the boulder, he put his hands above his head to support the leverage he had on the boulder.

He began to feel his feet dig into the ground, he gritted before letting a war cry out using all his strength to flip the boulder. The boulder began to tip, and for a second he thought he'd have to catch it from squashing him. Then it had tipped over before landing in the grass, making a huge impact on the ground. Dirt flowed up and when it cleared Everett saw the dropped jaws of Olas and Boto.

"Believe me now?" Everett said with a newfound cockiness brushing past Olas who still hadn't picked his jaw up.

Olas merely smiled. "A deal is a deal, am I right?"
