I do not iwn Teen Wolf

Chapter Two

"It was a wolf," Scott insisted.

"There are no wolves in California," Stiles informed him.

"Really?"

"Really."

River rolled her eyes.

"How are you feeling?" she asked Scott.

"Fine," Scott answered honestly.

"Good," she nodded. "I'm heading inside. I promised Erica I would meet her at her locker before class."

"We'll see you later," Scott nodded, kissing the side of her head.

Stiles copied Scott's movements, kissing the other side of River's head before she disappeared inside. She ran to her locker, putting away her afternoon supplies before heading towards Erica's locker. She smiled once she reached her.

"Hey," she smiled.

"Hey," Erica smirked at River's outfit. "Stiles' plaid?"

"What's theirs is mine and what's mine is mine," River shrugged. "Ready?"

"No," Erica grimaced.

"How's your new medicine treating you?" River questioned.

"Terrible," Erica groaned. "It takes me forever to get out of bed now. I just feel exhausted."

"Did you tell your mom?"

"She said I need to be on it for a few months before they change my medications. Something about making sure it isn't just temporary."

"That sucks," River frowned. "I'm sorry."

"It's fine," Erica sighed as they entered their English classroom. "I'm used to crappy medicine at this point."

"Doesn't make it okay," River argued.

"How's your anxiety doing?" Erica questioned.

"Well, it gets worse every time I see Stiles and Scott," River joked.

"So, through the roof," Erica nodded.

"At all times," River agreed before both girls laughed as they sat beside each other.

The bell rang and they both faced forwards, their books in front of them along with their binders. The teacher did attendance and turned to the class, ready to begin their first lecture when the classroom when the door opened again, a pretty brunette stepping into the room.

"Everyone, this is Allison Argent. Allison, have a seat anywhere," the teacher smiled.

Allison smiled back before taking the seat in front of Scott. Scott handed her a pen, both smiling shyly at one another before Allison looked forward again. River and Stiles glanced at each other, both smirking at the small exchange before facing forwards, giving the teacher their attention.

The first half of the day flew by with the exception of Chemistry, Harris being an absolute ass towards Stiles due to him not being able to stay still. She ended up placing her hand on his thigh halfway through the class to get him to fidget less in order to get Harris to pay attention to someone else. Stiles took her hand under the table, gently squeezing her hand on and off for the remainder of the class as he stared at the back of Lydia Martin's head.

At lunch, River grabbed her lunch from her locker and found her seat in front of Boyd. He nodded to her before looking over her shoulder. He smirked before speaking up.

"Incoming."

"What?" River barely had time to ask before Stiles landed in the seat beside her.

"Sup, Boyd," Stiles nodded to Boyd before turning to River. "We're going to look for Scott's inhaler after school. Are you coming?"

"Can't," River shook her head. "I'm working at the hospital today. You're supposed to drop me off."

"Oh, yeah," Stiles sighed. "I'll drop you off and then Scott and I will go looking for it."

"Good luck," River said. "I doubt you'll find it."

Stiles grabbed a few of her chips before running off to join Scott.

"Where did Scott lose his inhaler?" Boyd questioned.

"In the woods last night when we went looking for half of a dead body," River shrugged, taking a bite of her sandwich.

"You are weird people," Boyd sighed, going to his own food.

Erica sat beside River as Isaac took his seat beside Boyd. Boyd and Isaac began talking about one of their classes as Erica and River ate in silence. Once all four teens finished their lunches, they stood and headed to the library, River stopping at Lydia's table as the other three continued walking.

"Here's your book back," River told Lydia, passing her the old book.

"Thank you," Lydia smirked, pushing the book into her bag quickly.

"Where are you heading off to, River?" Danny asked curiously.

"She has to take her band of losers to the library," Jackson spoke up.

"If that's the case, I'll see you there soon," River's smirk was venomous as she glared down at Jackson.

"Whatever," Jackson rolled his eyes.

"See you later, Lyds," River sighed before heading off.

Once in the library, River went to the secluded corner behind all od the shelves. She fell into her chair beside Isaac and dropped her bag between them.

"Let me see it," she said softly.

Isaac lifted his shirt slightly, gasping in pain at the movements. River reached forward, moving his hands away and lifting the shirt herself. Boyd held the shirt up as River reached into her bag for her first aid kit. She pressed an alcohol pad against the cuts on his side, flinching as Isaac gasped in pain.

"I wish you'd let me tell Noah," River whispered for what was probably the hundredth time.

"No," Isaac insisted.

"I know," River sighed placing butterfly bandages over the wound, pulling it together. "Do you have lacrosse practice today?"

"No," Isaac shook his head. "It's tomorrow."

"Be careful?" she requested. "If you get knocked too hard these might open back up."

Isaac nodded as River finished cleaning him up. Boyd lowered Isaac's shirt, careful to not bump the cuts in the process. River sighed, leaning back against Erica who wrapped her arm around River, used to River's need for physical contact. Boyd abandoned his chair and sat in front of River, leaning back against her legs and opening a book to read. Isaac kicked his feet up on another chair, laying down across his own and resting his head on River's lap. She ran her fingers through his hair, gently untangling his curls. He closed his eyes at the comforting feeling.

"When is next movie night?" Erica asked curiously.

"Saturday?" Isaac offered up. "I can come over right after work. Dad won't be home."

"Sounds good," River nodded. "You two can come over whenever. I'll get snacks and stuff after school on Friday."

"Make sure Stiles doesn't eat everything before us," Erica joked.

"Dude is a trash can," River joked.

"Will Lydia be there again?" Isaac asked curiously. "It was kind of cool the last time she came."

"She's sweet when Jackson isn't around," River nodded. "I'll ask her."

"Isn't she having a party on Friday?" Boyd asked.

"Oh, shit," River sighed, remembering. "She won't be at movie night then. She'll be hungover. I'll offer just in case."

"Will you be hung over?" Erica asked with a smirk.

"I don't drink," River reminded her.

"Boring," Isaac whispered.

"Lord forbid I be the good influence within my band of misfits," River smirked.

"The good influence who ran into the woods to look for a dead body?" Boyd questioned.

"Shut up," River smirked, knocking him with her knee lightly.

"Wait, what?" Isaac asked, eyes opening.

"Stiles was listening to Noah's radio again. Apparently there was part of a dead body in the woods. Stiles dragged Scott and I to the woods. I waited in the Jeep."

"Of course, you did," River couldn't see Boyd's face, but she could hear the smirk on his face.

"Boring," Isaac whispered again.

"Shut up or I won't get your sour gummies," River defended herself.

Isaac rolled his eyes at the empty threat, grabbing River's hand and placing it back in her hair. River went back to running her fingers through his hair, humming quietly as he closed his eyes. The four teens remained quiet besides River's humming, all just enjoying each other's company in the quiet library.

When the bell rang, Isaac startled, almost falling out of the chairs he had been lying across. Boyd's arm shot out, catching Isaac's lower half as River wrapped her arm around his torso, keeping him in place.

"You're okay," she whispered soothingly to him. "We've got you. We're here."

Isaac's breathing went back to normal slowly. They waited until he was okay before they all stood, heading to the front of the library and taking their seats for study hall. Lydia and Jackson walked in holding hands, Lydia dragging Jackson to the seat beside River, Allison following behind them and sitting on River's other side. Stiles and Scott fell through the doors at the last second, rushing to their seats just as the bell rang. The librarian shushed the two boys, both looking apologetic as they opened their chemistry books.

"Allison, meet River. River, meet Allison," Lydia introduced the two.

"Nice to meet you," Allison nodded politely.

"You, too," River smiled, reaching into her bag to pull out her outline for her English essay. "We have English together."

"First period, right?" Allison asked, eagerness showing on her face.

"Maybe you can help her," Lydia rolled her eyes. "She's been trying to figure out some boys name all day."

"Who?" River asked.

"Him," Allison said, pointing towards Stiles and Scott.

"Which one?" River asked, chewing her lower lip.

"Puppy eyes," Allison stated.

"Scott McCall," River answered automatically.

"Oh, no," Jackson groaned. "Not another one."

"Shut up, Jackson," River growled before looking to Allison again.

"What does that mean?" Allison asked him.

"He's annoyed because he thinks Scott is a nobody," River rolled her eyes.

"Think?" Jackson asked.

"Scott is an absolute sweetheart," River continued, ignoring Jackson. "Kind of oblivious, though, so you might have to make the first move."

"Is that why you haven't made a move on his dumbass friend?" Jackson asked. "Is he also oblivious?"

River rolled her eyes, ignoring Jackson completely.

"Jackson," Lydia warned, causing the teen boy to close his mouth and concentrate on his work.

"So, you know him well?" Allison asked.

"He's one of my best friends," River smiled.

"Because all best friends wear each other's clothes," Jackson mumbled under his breath.

River heard Lydia kick his leg to shut him up, causing River to smirk. Allison eyes River for a moment.

"I live with Stiles. He's the boy sitting with Scott. Scott and him have been best friends since diapers basically, so he's at our house all the time or we're at his," River explained.

"So, it's you, Stiles, and Scott hanging out?" Allison asked.

"I guess," River shrugged.

"Okay," Allison smiled, going to her own essay.

River shook her head in confusion, looking to Lydia. Lydia smirked, looking down pointedly at River's essay. River sighed and got to work, having the majority of the essay outlined by the time the bell rang. Once the bell rang, Stiles and Scott ran to catch up with her on the way to her locker.

"Does she like me?" Scott asked.

"Allison?" River confirmed before answering. "I think so."

"Should I ask her out?" Scott asked. "You said I'm oblivious, but I did notice her."

"You just had to ask me if she liked you, but you aren't oblivious?" River smirked before frowning. "Wait, how did you hear that?"

"He thinks he's got superpowers," Stiles shrugged, throwing his arm over River's shoulders.

Scott grabbed River's hand, not even thinking about it as they headed towards her locker. Once they had all made stops at their lockers, trading out their books and supplies, they headed towards Biology. Once in the classroom, they all took seats together, releasing each other as they sat down. In Economics, Allison grabbed the seat in front of Scott before River could sit. She moved to the seat in front of Stiles quickly before the bell rang, frowning slightly when she and Stiles caught each other's eyes.

After class, Stiles led River to her locker, carrying her books so that he could hold her hand. They both grabbed everything that they needed for homework before heading to the Jeep, smiling once they found Scott already waiting for them. His smile was almost blinding when they reached him.

"She asked me to Lydia's party!" he said excitedly.

"That's awesome!" River smiled as she climbed into the back of the Jeep.

"Am I the only one not going to this party?" Stiles questioned.

"You can come with me?" River offered.

"Isaac busy?" Stiles shot back.

"Work," River shrugged. "Speaking of, let's go. I need to get to the hospital."

Stiles put the Jeep in gear and began driving. Once they were out of the parking lot, River strategically changed into the scrubs that she kept in a gym bag in the backseat, making sure that the boys couldn't see anything in the process. Once she had changed, she threw her school clothes into her gym bag and sat up, leaning in between the two boys to listen to Scott a little easier

"I can't believe she actually asked me," Scott smiled.

"Why are you surprised?" River asked. "You're adorable. She's lucky to have you."

"You're biased," Stiles spoke up. "You think I'm adorable."

River leaned back in her seat, mumbling to herself that she didn't think Stiles was adorable.

"What is he then?" Scott asked, turning in his seat.

"What?" River questioned, confused.

"You said he isn't adorable," Scott shrugged.

"You heard that?" she asked, sitting forward again.

"You don't think I'm adorable?" Stiles questioned, offended.

"How did you hear that?"

"Superpowers," Stiles supplied. "Am I not adorable?"

"You're annoying," River said, turning to Scott. "What did you say bit you?"

"A wolf," Scott said.

"Dude," Stiles went to argue.

"I know what I saw," Scott defended himself.

"We're here," Stiles sighed, pulling up to the hospital.

"Let me out," River sighed to Scott.

Scott moved quickly, holding the door open for River to climb out. He kissed her head as she passed him. Stiles held her book bag out and Scott grabbed it, handing it to her.

"Tell mom hi," Scott smiled.

"Will do!" River called behind her as she ran towards the doors.

Once she was inside, she clocked in for her shift, heading towards the private ward. Melissa smiled as River approached her.

"Scott says hi," she smiled.

"How was school?" she asked.

"Good," River nodded. "Scott had a better day than I did though."

"How so?" Melissa asked.

"You'll have to ask him," River shrugged, a smirk in place. "Is Jennifer here tonight?"

"Yeah," Melissa sighed. "She's making rounds."

River groaned.

"She's already checked over Peter if you want to head there," Melissa smiled.

"Good!" River jumped excitedly. "We're almost done with 'The Hobbit'. I brought the next book just in case I finished it tonight."

"You have the kids Wednesday, right?" Melissa asked.

"Yes, ma'am," River smiled.

"Oh, don't call me ma'am," Melissa shivered. "It makes me feel old."

River laughed as she headed towards Peter's room. She looked around corners before taking them and peaked into his room, making sure Jennifer wasn't hiding in there and waiting for her. Once the coast was clear, she went into the room, taking the seat beside Peter's bed.

"You have no clue what kind of Mission Impossible moves I pulled to get to your room today," River joked. "Where were we?"

River did finish 'The Hobbit' that night. She immediately started on The Fellowship right after. She read out loud to Peter for three hours before she heard footsteps heading towards the room. She got sat up slightly, listening carefully as the footsteps passed the door to Peter's room, continuing towards the nurse's desk.

"Oh, thank God," River sighed, leaning back in the chair before looking to Peter. "Your nurse is a nightmare."

River marked her page and stood, stretching before telling Peter goodbye and leaving the room. She got a text from Stiles telling her that he was out front as she waved goodbye to Melissa and clocked out. She ran out to the Jeep, climbing into the front seat and noting the lack of Scott.

"Did you find his inhaler?" she asked.

"Yupp," Stiles answered quickly.

"Are you okay?" River questioned. "You're being jumpy."

"Am not," he frowned. "Put your seatbelt on."

River rolled her eyes, buckling in as Stiles drove towards the house. Once they reached the house, she grabbed the gym bag from the backseat and followed Stiles inside. She sat at the kitchen table, pulling out her homework and started on it as Stiles threw a casserole into the oven for dinner. He set a timer and left the kitchen, kissing River's head as he passed her. She smiled at the gesture, working through her chemistry problems slowly, not wanting to get it wrong and face Harris' wrath. Once the timer went off, River stood, pulling the casserole from the oven just as Noah walked through the front door.

"What's for dinner?" Noah asked.

"Stiles put a casserole in," River answered, pulling down plates and grabbing silverware.

"I'll go grab him," Noah smiled, heading up the stairs.

River cleared her homework from the table before setting the table and scooping a portion of food onto each plate. She grabbed the salad from the fridge and added some to each plate, setting the healthy dressing beside Noah's plate. She could hear Stiles basically falling down the stairs and entering the kitchen. He smiled at the salad on each of the plates and at the dressing that River had put out for Noah.

"I've trained you well, young padawan," Stiles joked.

River rolled her eyes and took her seat. Stiles sat beside her and Noah came down the stairs a few minutes later. His smile dropped once he saw the dressing, eyeing Stiles as he took his seat. River ducked her head and began eating her food, smirking as Noah silently blamed Stiles for the healthy option that was in front of him.

"How was school?" Noah asked, breaking the silence.

"Good," River answered. "A pretty girl asked Scott out."

"Really?" Noah asked.

"She's new," Stiles shrugged. "Doesn't realize that we're losers yet."

"We?" River asked, raising her eyebrow at him.

"You're right," Stiles nodded. "It really is just the two of you that are losers. I'm awesome."

"I'm friends with Lydia and Danny, Scott has a date with a pretty girl, and I had to invite you to a party so that you could go," River nodded along. "Yeah, you're right. You're the cool one."

Stiles waved his hand at River dismissively. She rolled her eyes as Noah asked about the party.

"We won't be drinking," River promised.

"But there will be underage drinking?" Noah questioned.

"Nope," Stiles shook his head, knocking River's leg under the table.

"At a high school party?" River said sarcastically. "Never. Where would they even get the alcohol?"

"Mhm," Noah hummed. "As Sheriff, I didn't hear any of this. As your dad, please be careful."

"We will be," Stiles promised as River smiled, a light blush taking her cheeks as she looked down.

She had called Noah dad a few times when talking to her friends, but she hadn't said it to Noah yet, too nervous about his reaction. She knew he wouldn't mind, but other times she felt like she was interrupting their lives.

"What else do you both have planned for this weekend?" Noah asked, noting the smile and blush that River had tried to hide.

"Scotty and I are having a video game night on Saturday," Stiles supplied.

"Perfect," River smiled. "I'm having a movie night with Erica, Is, and V."

"Am I not invited?" Stiles questioned.

"You'll eat all the snacks if you come," River deadpanned.

"Are the three of them staying over?" Noah asked.

"Probably," River nodded. "Is that okay?"

"Absolutely," Noah nodded. "They're always welcome over."

"Okay," River nodded, a small smile on her lips as she continued eating.

"How's work going?" Stiles asked.

"Why?" Noah asked, staring blankly at Stiles.

"He wants to know if you found the other half of the body," River rolled her eyes.

"I forgot I was supposed to ground you both," Noah sighed.

"What?" Stiles asked, looking offended.

"We were out passed curfew and you were in the woods snooping around," River defended Noah. "Do you want me to cancel my movie night for my grounding?"

"No," Noah sighed. "I'll let you both pass this time. If I find either of you out after curfew again, especially in the woods, you're grounded until college."

"Deal," River agreed immediately.

"Until college?" Stiles tried to haggle. "Doesn't that seem a bit drastic?"

"That's me being generous," Noah told him.

River stood, her plate empty. She rinsed her plate and put it into the dishwasher along with the empty casserole pan. Stiles followed after her with his and Noah's plates, rinsing them before passing them over so she could load them into the dishwasher. He passed her the cleaning pod for the dishwasher and leaned back against the kitchen counter. River started the dishwasher and turned, leaning against the counter next to Stiles.

"I'm going to watch a bit of tv before heading to bed," Noah announced, standing from the table and leaving the room.

Once the tv was on and Noah was settled, Stiles opened the cabinet above River, causing her to duck as he pulled the cookies she had made the night before from the top shelf. He shut the cabinet and handed the bag of cookies to River. She stashed them in her bag and headed upstairs, kissing Noah's head before running up the stairs, Stiles following a few minutes later. He plopped down onto her bed beside her, holding a hand out for a cookie.

"I don't know if I want to share with you," River joked.

"I will put them back on the top shelf again," Stiles threatened, hand still out.

River let out a giggle as she handed a cookie over, causing Stiles to smirk.

"Has Lydia noticed you yet?" River asked.

"No," Stiles frowned.

"Five-year plan not working for you very well, is it?"

"Might have to bump it up to ten."

"Did you finish your chemistry homework?"

"Yeah. You?"

"Yeah. Harris is an ass."

"Thanks for earlier, by the way. It helped ground me."

"That's what I'm here for," River shrugged passing over another cookie. "You and Scott can come on Saturday if you want. Is won't be here until after work."

"Why do you call Boyd V?" Stiles asked, rolling to his side.

"His first name starts with a V," River shrugged.

"What's his first name?"

"Not happening," River smirked, turning to her side to face Stiles. "Is Scott okay? Still having weird hearing?"

"A little," Stiles sighed. "I think he might be a werewolf."

"A werewolf?" River quirked an eyebrow.

"Yeah but hear me out. He was bitten by a wolf apparently, but there are no wolves in California since the 1920s. The bite is healed already."

"Wait, what?" River asked.

"Yeah," Stiles rushed. "Completely gone. Not even a scar left behind. His hearing and eyesight are ridiculous. He didn't even need his inhaler all day when he typically uses it multiple times a day."

"That doesn't mean werewolf though," River said, biting her bottom lip.

"I know," Stiles nodded. "I'm going to do more research before I say anything else about it."

"Do you want help?" River offered.

"Maybe," Stiles thought for a moment. "Do you know when the next full moon is?"

"I think this weekend," River reached to her pocket, pulling her phone loose from her scrub pants. "I'll look it up."

After confirming the full moon was on Friday, Stiles got a serious look on his face.

"Just do your research," River prompted him. "After that, we can panic."

"Can I stay in here tonight?" Stiles asked, his voice small.

"Yeah," River nodded. "Go get changed."

Stiles stood, leaving the room to get his pajamas on. River changed quickly, pulling down her hair and brushing the knots out of it. She opened her laptop and sat on her bed, leaning against the headboard and Googling werewolves. Stiles came back in a few minutes later, sitting next to River and reading along with her. At some point he took the laptop from her, following a link to fact check something. River laid down, laying her head on his stomach as he laid his arm along her side. Noah knocked on her door a few minutes later and Stiles called for him to come in.

"I just wanted to say goodnight," Noah smiled as River sat up again. "I didn't realize you would both be in here."

"We're having a slumber party," River smiled. "Wanna join?"

"Not tonight," Noah smiled. "Make sure actually get some sleep. If I hear you both giggling like when you were in middle school, I'll separate you."

"It was Scott that giggled," Stiles defended. "We'll be good."

Noah smiled and bid them both goodnight, leaving the door cracked as he headed to his own room for the night. Stiles opened Netflix, turning on 'Friends' for River and set the laptop on her desk so that they could both see it. He stood and turned off the bedroom light before climbing under the covers with River, opening his arms so that she could cuddle against his side, her head resting on his chest.

They both fell asleep quickly, Noah coming in a while later when he heard laughter coming from the laptop. He closed River's laptop, smiling at the two teens in his care as they cuddled, sleeping soundlessly. He left the door cracked and went to bed.
