Li Syaoran and I were friends before he turned into Li. When he was just Syaoran. Back then we were part of the same group of friends, during elementary school days. The group consisted of the boys: Li Syaoran, D. Flourite Fye, and Shirou Kamui. The girls were Daidouji Tomoyo, Akiho Shinomoto, and me. Mei Lin did join us from time to time. Back then Daidouji used to live just two blocks away from me, but during seventh year her family moved to another neighborhood. We kept being friends for a little longer, but it was just not the same, and so our friendship didn't last much longer. Akiho and I were still friends, until she moved to Korea last year, and thus, I was left with Mei Lin only. That's how the friendship group ended. We're no longer friends. Neither Daidouji and me, neither Li and me.
Actually, it was thanks to Daidouji that I met Mei Lin. They're cousins, her moms are sisters. When we were in fourth grade, Mei Lin came to my place when Daidouji came, which was almost daily, but not even then they liked each other. They used to fight about whose Barbie should date Ken, when the one that should date him would be mine, since the Ken was Rika's.
At school, not a lot of people know they're related. I think it's mostly to the fact they don't look alike. Daidouji has porcelain skin, she's so tiny, skinny arms and legs, and a tiny waist. For a high school student standard, her ass and boobs are massive. Mei Lin, on the other hand, has tanned skin, and a much more athletic complexion: she's also skinny, but her arms and legs are toned. And, just as me, she doesn't have any boobs.
Their facial features are also not alike: Daidouji has a slim face, grey eyes and a tiny mouth, while Mei Lin has reddish eyes, and has a little too much cheeks. Their heights may be similar, and one could think their hair is the only thing they have in common, since both are a very long dark black. But they're also different: Daidouji's hair is wavy, Mei Lin's completely straight. Sometimes she even dies some parts of it in different colors, just as the rebel she is.
It's already night. Mei Lin and I didn't stay too long at Penguin Park, since she had a party to attend. She invited me, but as usual, I declined. Parties are not my thing; specially those parties Mei Lin goes: mostly are University student parties. I don't even attend parties hosted by my classmates! Although that's because most of them don't even know me. At school, socially speaking, I'm quite invisible.
It's not like it bothers me. Actually, I like it that way. Mei Lin tries to expand my social bubble, but truth be told, is a hard task, even for her. I can't help it, I'm a homebody girl. Staying at home, spending my time with my dad, Rika and Misaki, watching a documental or a movie as we eat fresh made popcorn, is something I do because I like, and not because I'm obliged. I feel more comfortable and safe at home, than at a party with guys I don't even know.
So, as Mei Lin's at her party, and despite being a Friday night (the last Friday before classes start, actually), I'm at home, in my bedroom, putting on my pajama, when my phone rings, letting me know Mei Lin is calling me. I answer right away. It seems she's still at the party, since the music is blasting so loud, she has to yell so I can hear her.
"Guess what!"
"I can't hear you!" I yell back.
"Wait!" She walks away from the noise; I can tell because it suddenly hears muffled. "Can you hear me now?"
"Yes, much better."
"Ok, guess what? Guess who just broke up?"
"Who?" I ask, slightly interested.
"Li and Daidouji! She broke up with him."
"What?!" I can't help but yell, now totally interested. Maybe is just due the fact I saw him today, after all this time, despite us going to the same school, same grade, and even having some classes together. "But, why?"
"I don't know. Rumor has it Daidouji met a University guy at the beggining of summer, and she's been cheating on Li during all this time. Oh, gotta go! It's my turn to play beer pong."
"Mei Lin, wait!"
But as always, Mei Lin doesn't wait, and hangs up without saying good bye.
Hope you're finding the adaptation fun :)
