A/N: Some reviewers thought the last chapter was too short or the ending rushed. Maybe the title was misleading. This story was always intended to cover Sarah's thoughts and feelings as she realized she was pregnant and its implications, alongside how she felt about Chuck and being with him. Once over the trauma, and coming to terms with her situation, the rest of her pregnancy would be as for other women, so I wasn't going to dwell on that. And I gave the birth, although extremely important, the coverage I felt right for this story.
Thanks, once again, to Writesalott for her help, and to Capt LiL for the beta.
So, now, just a short epilogue…
Sarah's Pregnancy
Epilogue
Three years ago, Chuck and Sarah had officially adopted Molly. Emma had still thought this was the right thing to do. Molly had been very mature for her age, so when Chuck, Sarah and her mom had discussed the adoption with the seven-year-old, she not only understood what they were saying, but also asked pertinent questions. "You're not abandoning me, though, are you, Momm… err, Granny?" she asked Emma.
Emma pulled her into a hug and kissed her forehead. "I'm not, Molly. I love you so much. I'll be staying here with your mommy and daddy. We all love you so much, but this will make things easier for you. Having a parent as old as me, would get challenging as you got older."
"Some already do try to question it," Molly said. "They're idiots!"
"It will only get worse at high school," Emma replied.
Molly turned to Sarah. "It's not that I don't love you, but your mom has been mine since I was a baby. As long as she's still in my life, she's right, I'll get questioned less with you turning up as my mom." She smiled at Sarah and Chuck. "I love you both so much and I know you love me." Then she grinned. "I'll be able to call Kathryn my sister, rather than niece. I always wanted a sister!"
Another significant event occurred a year later. It was amazing how quickly the female brain forgot the pain and suffering of pregnancy and childbirth, so two years after Kathryn was born, and a year after they officially adopted Molly, Sarah gave birth to a second child. This time, she had a boy, David Stephen Bartowski. She had a home birth and even managed to get Chuck in the pool with her, making it more intimate.
David was now three years old and looked like pictures Ellie had shown them of Chuck when he was that age. Sarah loved him just as much as her other two children. She had no favorites. They were all precious to her.
Sarah's memory of the five years she'd lost had never fully returned, she still only had fragments, but it didn't worry her. She had built all the memories she wanted in the time since returning to Chuck. Apart from that initial worry about the paternity of her first child, Kathryn, everything had been wonderful.
Over the last three years, Carmichael Security had become more and more successful, expanding the team and the client base, while still remaining a relatively small company.
Casey hadn't joined them. A desk job was just not for him, but he spent as much time as he could with his daughter and grandson, Jacob Grimes. Although he had initially disapproved of his daughter's choice of partner, he had to acknowledge that Morgan was a better dad than he had been himself.
So, Casey worked for his wife, Gertrude, and her security company. A very different type of work to Carmichael, but they supported each other on some projects.
Molly, now ten-years-old, was the perfect older sister. Kathryn adored her, and even David enjoyed being with her.
Carmichael Security now had clients in other countries. The United Kingdom was the first, due to MI6 working closely with the CIA and NSA on taking down the Ring two years earlier. MI6 had taken the app after Chuck and Sarah visited them to demonstrate it. Sarah was surprised at him being willing to do this after he told her about their experience with an MI6 agent called Cole Barker. It was almost as if Chuck was trying to exorcize his demons about that man.
They met Cole Barker while they were there. Sarah had thought he was her type before Chuck, and could understand her husband's discomfort when Cole was in Burbank. However, she was sure from everything Chuck told her about that time, that she would not have wavered. Chuck had already stolen her heart by then, even though they were still only in a cover relationship. Of course, their poor communication back then meant further trauma before they finally got together. Cole Barker five years later was a charming man, who obviously liked Chuck a lot. He congratulated them on their marriage, their kids, and the success of their app.
He was horrified at what had happened to Sarah, but relieved that the two of them stayed together. "You always were perfect for each other."
He took them out for a meal with his pregnant wife, Jane, while they were there, a lovely English rose who worked as an analyst for MI6 and who had worked with her husband on a few assignments before they got together.
They also visited Paris to repeat the process with the French secret service, DGSE (Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure). Chuck was relieved that they didn't meet an agent of theirs. "I'd hate to be the one to tell Ilsa Trichina that the love of her life was now married to someone else." Of course, that made Sarah make him tell her about Ilsa's visit to Los Angeles.
"Casey's quite the lady's man, isn't he?" she joked with Chuck.
He laughed at the image that created. So not Casey.
Being in Paris enabled them to recreate the last time they were there over four years before. They checked into the hotel where they had become a couple and stayed in the same room for twenty-four hours, with no disturbances other than having meals brought to the room.
Chuck told her that their passion for each other was just as strong as it had been the last time they were there. Sarah was happy he thought that, but stopped him talking about it so she could continue enjoying it. And she really, really did.
Their love life benefited from these trips. Different locations adding variety. Their girls knew that they were not to disturb mom and dad when their bedroom door closed, and Emma would look after David, but it was still good to know that no one wanted them to stop making love.
Emma was, of course, wonderful with all the children, which meant they had no concerns when away.
They also traveled to Germany and Italy for similar visits.
All these foreign clients meant that the app needed to be translated, which tapped into Sarah's language skills, giving her another facet to enjoy about her job.
Sarah was as happy with her life as she had been when she gave birth to Kathryn, their five-year-old. So, now nearly six years of happiness that followed the five years she still didn't remember, apart from a few short moments, but she no longer cared about that. The previous years, ten with her dad and eight that she remembered in the CIA, were now just buried painful memories. Her life, as far as she was concerned, started when she and Chuck sat on that beach. Even the time when she woke up in that hotel in Los Angeles, and the first two weeks after that, she suppressed as well.
Returning to Chuck five weeks later was the best decision of her life. Not just because of Kathryn, but for the two of them. Their love had only grown since then.
Now she has a happy future ahead of her with the man she loved, and her mom nearby, with her sister-in-law and their family in Chicago, her friends in LA and, of course, her wonderful children.
And all of this because of her wonderful husband and him getting her pregnant, before her memory of him was erased!
A/N: So, that wraps up this story. Some thought Chuck and Sarah shouldn't adopt Molly, others that it would be good. Emma, Chuck and Sarah all liked the idea, but waited until Molly was older to discuss it with her. It wasn't a big switch, as they all lived together anyway.
Thanks to everyone who stuck with this story, and particularly those that took the time to review it. I really appreciate the feedback.
I'm now back to updating my other stories, but also have a new Chuck AU, set in the Bermuda Triangle, coming in a few weeks.
Catch you later, folks.
