Running into the hospital those with her can barely keep up. "Graham O'Brien."
"Miss?"
"O' I mean McShane." Tegan does a double take when Ace almost says Graham's last name.
"Dorothy McShane?"
"Yes, I am his girlfriend, we live together, he is in the process of adopting my Daughter, this is his Grandson Ryan. Now please where is he?"
"Stay calm Ms. McShane and let me look up his name." Sensing her friend is about to lose it, Tegan steps forward.
"Come on Ace, let her do her job."
"It hasn't even been two years since everything with the Daleks and he was in a coma for a month. I don't know how I can handle this."
"You are Dorothy McShane, that is how, you are someone who lived through a traumatic childhood and let's not forget all the things that the Doctor, who you call your best friend to many, treated you."
"I know, this is different, it seems a part of me breaks when he is hurt."
"That is a part of being in love."
"Mum, Graham will be ok."
"I agree with Manisha, if I know my Grandad, he will not let anything happen to him."
"He didn't let this happen."
"We know."
"Ms. McShane, he is resting now, you can go and see him if you want, but only family."
"Go Mum, it should just be you and Ryan."
"Manisha, Graham is adopting you, you are his Daughter too," Tegan points out, "I will wait out here."
The family of three follow a nurse to Graham's room. Ace goes in first, "oh Graham." She sits down and grabs his hand.
"He is just medicated right now. He should be awake within the next hour. His clothes are in the bag on the counter."
"Ryan, can you please get the ring and give it to Tegan?"
"Of course. You don't want it in your position, it is yours."
"He is the only one who, I want to give me the ring when I tell him yes." Ace continues looking at Graham's cut face as she runs a hand softly down the side of it, Ryan gets the ring and gets it to Tegan.
"What's this?"
"It is the engagement ring."
"Oh."
"Why not give it to Ace?"
"The only person who she will accept it from is Graham."
"How is she?" Yaz runs in hearing the last bit.
"Already taking vigil, I am going to head back, he should be awake soon."
"That's good. Tell her I will take good care of it."
"I am sure she knows." Ryan heads back to see Manisha's hand on Ace's shoulder; Ryan moves to the otherside of the bed. About 20 minutes later a groaning sound is heard.
"What happened?"
"You were in an accident Graham."
"Ace?"
"Yes?"
"I love you."
"I love you too, and better never stop saying that."
"I won't."
"Good."
Graham looks around seeing Ryan and Manisha, "Ryan."
"You scared me, I was on the phone with you when it happened."
"I am sorry."
"It's ok."
"Hey Dad."
"Nisha." She tries to lean down and hug him, "I am ok, not in much of any pain." He looks at Ace over Manisha's head. "How did you guys get here?"
"I called Tegan, I wasn't going to let Ace drive here."
"Thank you."
"Oi, I am not a bad driver."
"I know that, but I would want you to get here safely, and less chance of an accident with someone who is driving who isn't worried sick."
"Let's not forget who almost screamed at the nurse at the station," adds Ryan.
Manisha stands up, "or almost called themselves Mrs. O'Brien."
"You did?"
"I did," Ace doesn't meet his eyes.
"Honey?"
"Yes?"
"What we talked about earlier, is that still true?"
"It is?"
"Where is it?"
"I'll go get it." Manisha runs out of the room. "Tegan, come with us, Graham is awake and he is asking for the ring."
"Is he really going to propose while in a hospital bed?"
"Have they done anything like any normal couple?"
"No, not many who met through the Doctor have."
"Exactly, now come on." Tegan and Yaz follow Manisha both ignoring the nurses.
"Here you go Graham." Tegan hands him the box.
"Thank you Tegan." Graham sits up and motions Ace to sit on the bed with him. "Dorothy, or should I say Ace."
"I don't care what you call me."
"I never imagined that I would propose to you while I was lying in a hospital bed or any bed."
"One moment," Tegan interrupts, "let me video in Nyssa."
"Quickly please," Graham and Ace say together. Tegan quickly does just that and her face pops on the screen.
"Ok, continue."
"I did plan on those that matter the most to you being present and here they are in some shape or form. When you greeted me by the bat, you could say my heart had become a home run for you." Ace laughs at that, "each day I fall deeper for you. The day I realized I wanted to marry you in the lab working with Nyssa was a great day. Each day with you, is a better day." Graham starts to cough, Ace gets him some water. "Thanks," he opens the box, Ace sees the simple cut of the ring, "will you marry me?"
"Yes, of course I will marry you," Ace leans down and they share a slow kiss, and cheers from the room and outside it start. "I love you."
"I love you," he slips the ring on her finger.
"Congratulations. Now can those who are not family leave so I can talk to the patient?" Tegan gives a hug to Ace as she stands up from the bed so his doctor can check him over, then both her and Yaz leave, Tegan still holding up the phone looks at Nyssa.
"Finally."
"I know right, though in a hospital, Nyss?"
"Graham saw the moment didn't he? When Ace comes into the office, I can't wait to see the ring."
"Can you imagine what it will look like when she does interviews and they want pictures."
"I hope one of the other two took some pictures."
"I do too, want to say hi to Yaz?"
"Sure," Tegan passes the phone.
"Hiya Nyssa."
"Hello Yaz, how are you doing?"
"I am doing pretty good."
"I am glad."
"How about you?"
"I wish I came with Tegan."
"There wasn't enough room with Ace, Ryan and Manisha. I had to hold Ace back." Tegan takes her phone back.
"Let me guess she got an attitude with a nurse?"
"That she did, look I don't know when I will be home tonight. I am going to make sure that at least Manisha and Ryan get home tonight."
"I know, I will see you later, I love you Tegan."
"I love you too Nyssa." Tegan and Nyssa hang up and Yaz starts to get her coat on. "Leaving?"
"Yes, my date brought me here, I told her I needed to see if Graham was ok, and he is, so I am going to go."
"Let me walk you to the car."
"I am sure I will be ok."
"Just humor me ok?"
"Ok." Tegan walks Yaz and when she sees a familiar woman with dark auburn curly hair, she stops for a second.
"Neeka?"
"You know her?"
"You can say that." Tegan continues walking Yaz to the car. "Hello Neeks."
"Mummy?"
"What?"
"She is one of my Mums," Neeka explains.
"That means the other one is Nyssa?"
"Yes, Nyssa Traken-Jovanka, I got to earth a few years after her along with my brother."
"Wow."
"You can say that."
"Why didn't you say you were seeing someone Neeks?"
"It's new."
"Before something more is said," Yaz starts to speak, "does this make Ace and Aunt to you?"
"Of course it does."
"How about you come in for a minute so I can see if you can see your Aunt and future Uncle."
"Did Graham finally propose?"
"He did. Now come on." The three of them walk into the hospital.
