And he had no one to blame but himself.
And just when the merc was going to have his way with the Uchiha, Sasuke suddenly felt a gush of warmth encompass his back and drip down his legs and neck. There was a squelching sound and then silence. Before Sasuke could comprehend what was happening, his bindings were cut off and the men were all collectively screaming in terror as they saw some sharp, black, spike thing sticking out from the chest of the man at Sasuke's back. His eyes flew open to see a familiar sight of his teammate's deadly tendril stretching past his torso after the man that was holding his head up let him go. He watched as the men all tried to scramble away only to also be impaled by the quick vines. Their screams of pain were soon silenced and Sasuke was left with a feeling of relief as the man at his back was thrown away. It was short-lived as he heard his fellow genin's footsteps tread through the blood all over the floor. He sat up upon his knees, kept his gaze down, and tried to shrink into himself. He was absolutely mortified at how the long-haired male found him in such a predicament, and even more embarrassed at his apparent weakness and nudity.
When Katsuro stopped about two feet away, the silence drew on for even longer before Sasuke jolted in surprise when a familiar cloak was placed over his head and shoulders.
"You don't have to say anything, but nod or shake your head as an answer to what I'm about to ask you, okay?" The soft tone he used made Sasuke a bit angry but he dropped his shoulders even more as he pulled the cloak his teammate usually wears further around his body. He didn't want to admit it, but the scent embedded within the fabric gave him a sense of calm. He nodded his assent and saw the familiar portal open up before him.
"This portal will lead you to the room where we are staying at Tazuna's. There's no one currently in the house right now so you don't have to worry about interaction and only focus on yourself. Is that okay with you?" The dual-haired genin asked.
Sasuke paused before nodding. He made to stand but his legs would not cooperate. He didn't even notice that he was trembling so bad that it seemed as if he was in the frigid cold.
"Come on, dammit! Move!" Sasuke screamed at himself. He could feel a tingling of humiliation and a sting of tears as he tried to force his legs to move. But he didn't have to stew for long as a tan hand was slowly lowered into his sight. He flinched back but realized Katsuro wasn't reaching out to touch him. He peered up to see the taller male holding a sleeping child against his chest and his steady gaze.
"I won't touch you without your permission, Sasuke, but you are more than welcome to use me for assistance. I won't think any less of you."
Those reassuring words had the Uchiha reaching out, slowly sliding his hand into the other's and being carefully pulled up as his weakened legs and feet gained purchase and balance on the floor.
Katsuro walked his teammate to the portal, then stopped a few inches away from it. He expected Sasuke to release him but gave the shorter male the time to compose himself. They were silent the entire time it took for Sasuke to slip his hand from the warm one and finally step through to the other side.
The young man left behind closed the gateway and surveyed the area of dead bodies and the deathly quiet captives.
"Everyone! I understand you are all afraid right now, but I will be releasing you all shortly. I am a ninja of the Hidden Leaf and I promise to try my best to get you all home." Katsuro spoke. The captives were all silent at that and many started crying out in joy and relief to finally have hope of getting out of the hellhole they've been trapped in.
Katsuro made clones of himself and they all got to work freeing the people. He had some of those clones find blankets and clothing for the more nude victims and calmly instructed everyone to head outside where they met up with the other freed prisoners already waiting. He was thanked multiple times and ended up with the smaller children all huddled up around him, seeking his safety.
When they were all gathered in front of the building, he questioned where thay all came from and was given varying answers. It seemed that most of the people captured were from different countries and villages. In his head, he calculated how much space he has in his compound. It definitely wasn't near enough for the sheer amount of people that didn't originate from Wave Country. He promised the non-Wave citizens that he would provide asylum as he worked to get them to their homes as soon as he could.
Katsuro created a portal and made a clone go through to the other side.
WITH THE CLONE
Clone Katsuro stepped out of the opening and into the main den of the compound. He sensed Shisui in one of the nearby training grounds and ventured to his location.
"Shisui!" He called out. The Uchiha paused mid swing of his tanto and turned around to Katsuro with a raised eyebrow in confusion.
"Katsuro? I thought you were going to be gone for longer than two weeks?" Shisui asked as he stepped up to his mate. They shared a quick kiss before the younger man informed him that he was a clone and about the current situation. Shisui understood and told him that they had more bedroom essentials come in a few days ago though he'd have to order more and some children's beds along with toys and clothes.
Katsuro asked him to activate the illusionary seals along with the chakra cloaking in order to prevent any sensors from alarming the village of a sudden surge of chakra presences. Shisui left to do exactly what they planned.
As soon as the clone felt the seals settle in place, he left back through the gateway and the original Katsuro asked all those who did not live in Wave to step through the portal and onto the grounds of his home. He let them know that someone they could trust is on the other side to get them settled in as the place they would be heading to would be his compound that is within the Hidden Leaf Village. Shisui would direct the apprehensive group to different sections of the compound.
Shisui asked if those that wished to bathe would like to use the hot-springs (separated by gender for guests) or separate showers. He got mixed answers and created some clones of himself to lead them in where they needed to go with the older females taking younger girls or smaller children with them.
"I'll let Iruka know the situation, love. Stay safe." Shisui kissed the original Katsuro when he ducked through the opening for a brief moment and left back through again before the portal was closed behind him. Katsuro dispelled his clone before addressing those who were left, which was quite small considering the amount of people that were initially found inside the building.
"We'll go through another one of my portals and to the entrance of Wave," he informed them and they all had hope shining through their jaded eyes. They all eagerly clamored in around him as he made another gateway and stepped through first.
The closest worker yelped in surprise when the portal opened, garnering the attention of the nearby men and Kakashi and Sakura. When Katsuro stepped through, Kakashi, now that he's recovered more and is only left with a imperceptible limp, stepped up to him and immediately noticed the child in his arms.
"Katsuro? I got your message- what happened? And who's this?" He asked when he got close enough. Katsuro could not answer right then as the freed captives started trickling through the portal, Everyone sans the male genin was surprised and some of the bridge builders started tearing up when they recognized the people in the small group.
The ninja watched as some builders rushed toward them, with a few former captives reciprocating, and some running back toward the village with shouts of wanting to inform everyone of the miracle. There were tears and cheering between the two groups and long hugs as they slowly moved further inland with some people coming to meet them as families started reuniting.
Kakashi leaned in to whisper in Katsuro's ear, "Where's Sasuke?"
"I sent him back ahead of me. I'll tell you the whole situation when we get back to Tazuna's." He reassured.
"Where's Sasuke-kun, Baka?!" Sakura crossed her arms with a pointed glare to the other genin.
The dual-haired male gave her a blank look, "In the village," And was about to make a move forward when he paused. He faced her fully. "Oh, and Sakura…"
The pink-haired girl raised an eyebrow.
"I have a name. If it's too hard for you to say, then don't say anything at all." And he turned back to walk away. Sakura harrumphed and stomped her way to the village with plenty of space between her and her teammate.
Kakashi sighed and shook his head at her behavior. "I really need to have a talk with her. Her attitude will end up getting someone hurt." He quickly caught up to his younger lover and leaned up to give him a quick kiss on the cheek.
When they all reached the center of the village, the residents were all outside celebrating and more tears of happiness were spilt as feelings of hope were starting to sprout all around when the missing people of the Land of Waves were returned to their families.
This went on for some time before slowly abating as families beckoned their loved ones home. The only other problem was the black-haired boy that was still sleeping in Katsuro's arms. When the former captives were questioned, they all had similar responses of:
"He's always been there."
This was even before the first groups of people were taken. The boy never spoke and was usually allowed to roam the basement as he pretty much stayed out of the way and never caused any trouble. Some think that he may have been born there or was taken in infancy.
Katsuro brushed aside soft, fluffy locks from the said child's, who, surprisingly, was still asleep through all of the noise, face as he thought over the boy's situation.
"What do you want to do? He seems very attached to you." Kakashi quietly spoke as he spotted the tiny hand clutched onto the genin's hair.
"I don't feel comfortable just leaving him here with no one knowing where he's come from. And since no one claims him as family, maybe we should take him back to Konohagakure with us?" The dual-haired male debated. Kakashi leaned onto his shoulder and sighed.
"If that's what you want to do, I have no objections. It'll be a big change, though, with a child in the mix, not to mention all the other people we currently have and we already know that the villagers aren't going to be very blithesome to that fact. But I'm sure we could all protect him as he gets accustomed to his new place of living. He's so cute I don't think any of us would be letting him out of our sights anytime soon." He brought up with a little laugh at the end.
"I can only imagine." The dark-haired boy started to wake and his dark, sapphire blue eyes fluttered open to the view of a light-haired man with a covering over his mouth and metal band over an eye. "Oh? It looks like someone's finally awake! Did you have a good rest?" The child simply looked at him silently. Katsuro gave him a soft pat on the head, drawing his attention to the man from earlier before going back to the new man when he made a sound.
"Hello, little one. My name is Kakashi Hatake and this is Katsuro Uzumaki. What's your name?" Said jōnin introduced them then questioned. The blue-eyed boy remained emotionless but shook his head.
"Huh? Do you not want to tell us?" He gently probed. The boy briefly made eye contact with the other blue-eyed male. Katsuro understood in that small moment and smiled sadly.
"He… doesn't have a name, Kashi." The older man looked at him, surprised.
"No name? Wait, how do you know that?" The perplexed jōnin asked. The two blue-eyed males stared at each other.
"I don't really know. It's like… we can understand each other without the need for words. Ever since I laid eyes on him, something about him seemed familiar." Katsuro explained. Kakashi watched the child as he snuggled further into Katsuro's arms. In a way, he could see the two being father and son due to how trusting they seem to be of each other for being only strangers. He blushed when he imagined Katsuro holding a silver-haired infant with bright blue eyes and maybe whisker-like markings on their chubby cheeks.
"Well, if he has no name, and he seems to trust you so much, I think it's only right that you get the honor of naming the little guy."
