Episode 104: The Battle of Brotherhood
The next day, after defeating Chuck and winning a Storm Badge, Mew and the others decide to check out Cianwood City, and then they plan to go to the Safari Park to have some fun. Mew and the others are walking near the beach to get some fresh air.
"So what do you guys wanna do today?" Mew asks.
"Well, I want to check out the Safari Park," Tomo says.
"I like to as well, but I also like to go to the beach," Molly says.
"I like to go to the beach as well," Jen says.
"Me too, the beach looks so lovely," Misty says.
"Well, I like to go get some lunch," Brock says.
"Well, maybe we can go grab some lunch first. Then we got to the beach and had a picnic," Mew suggests.
"Sounds like a great idea," Misty says.
"I agree. We get to go out to the beach and have some fun," Molly says.
"And we get to relax too," Misty says.
"And I'm sure we will love to play at the beach and splash in the water," Mew says.
"Great idea," Brock says.
Just then, they begin to hear grunts and the sound of punching and kicking.
"What's that?" Tomo asks.
Misty hears the noise and says, "It sounds like someone's fighting."
"You think it's Chuck and Machoke again?" Jen asks.
Mew hears the noise too and says, "Doesn't sound like him."
Tomo looks ahead to notice, "Hey guys, look over there."
The three look ahead to see two small Pokemon fighting against one another. Both of them are Tyrogues, similar to the one Mew has. Both humanoid Pokémon with a predominantly pale purple body and brown hips and feet that resemble short pants and shoes. It has three blunt protrusions on top of its head, yellow eyes, and circular sections on each side of its head that resemble protective padding. There are white bands resembling bandages on its torso and wrists. It has thin limbs, and its hands have three fingers each. The larger Tyrogue is practicing offense, while the smaller one is practicing defense.
"What Pokemon are they?" Molly asks.
"Those are Tyrogues," Brock answers.
Mew brings out her Pokedex and shows it to Molly.
Dexter says, "Tyrogue, the Scuffle Pokemon. A Fighting Type. It is famous for its eagerness to fight and always nurses injuries from challenging larger foes."
They both continue to brawl with one another.
"Huh, I wonder why the two are fighting?" Jen asks.
"It looks like they're training against one another," Tomo says.
"I see that, but why?" Jen replies.
"We can ask," Mew says.
Mew then approaches the two Tyrogues, and asks, "Um excuse me, what are you both fighting about?"
"Ty Tyrogue Tyrugoue," (We're training for a tournament.) The Larger Tyrogue says.
The smaller Tyrogue says, "Tyr Ty Tyrogue Tyrouge Ty Tyrogue Tyrogue.) (It's a Pokemon Kung Fu Competition for Fighting Pokemon, and many Wild Fighting Pokemon get together to compete at a temple outside of the city.)
"A competition huh, sounds interesting," Mew says.
Then the Large Tyrogue says, "Tyrogue Tyr Tyr Tyrogue," (You're welcome to watch the competition being held this evening.)
"Sounds amazing. I'll think about it," Mew says. "Thank you."
The two Tyrogues nod their heads and continue training against each other for the competition.
Mew walks to the others.
"So what did the Tyrogues say?" Brock asks.
"Well according to the Tyrogues, they're both training for a Kung Fu competition that is going to be held at a temple outside of the city this evening. Many wild Fighting Pokemon compete to be the winner. They said if we're welcome to watch if we want," Mew says.
"A Kung Fu Competition for Fighting Types huh," Brock says.
"Sounds cool. I wanna see," Tomo says.
"Me too," Jen says.
"Sounds interesting," Misty says.
"Well then, I say we go check it out," Mew says.
"Yeah!" Tomo says.
Misty says, "Sounds good. Let's go grab some lunch, relax, and then find the temple to watch the tournament."
"Good idea," Mew says.
Later in the evening, Mew and her friends are making their way out of the city limits to find the tempe for the Kung Fu Competition for Fighting Pokemon. However, they discover one little problem.
"Let's see, the temple should be around here," Brock says.
Mew checks her Poke Map, "Hmm, I can't seem to figure out where the Temple is on the Poke Map."
"I guess we're lost," Molly says.
"Seems so," Jen says.
Misty groans, "I can't believe we got lost again."
"And the competition will begin close to sun down," Mew says.
"Are you all talking about the Kung Fu Competition for the Wild Fighting Type Pokemon?" A familiar voice asks.
The gang turns back to see the familiar Fighting Type Gym Leader and his Machoke.
"Oh, hi Chuck," Mew says.
"Hey kids, I heard you're going to the temple to watch the Kung Fu Competition the Wild Fighting Types do?" Chuck asks.
"We are, but we're lost," Misty says.
"And we're not sure where the temple is," Brock says. "And the guidebook said it should be around here."
"I know where the temple is," Chuck says, "Machoke and I are heading to the competition ourselves, and we're meeting a big expert in Fighting Type Pokemon."
He then says, "Now move those legs and follow me. One two three four! One two three four! One two three four!" and begins to jog ahead with his Machoke.
Mew and the others follow behind Chuck and Machoke, dogging as well.
Misty sighs, "Why did we decide to do this with him?"
"This is fun," Molly says.
"Feels like we're exercising to me," Jen says.
"No kidding," Tomo replies.
The group continues to follow Machoke and Chuck outside of town to their destination.
Sometime later, they reach their destination, a large Japanese style structure that seems similar to the Cianwood gym. They soon reach the front of the place that's open. Machoke is the first to arrive at the front. Mew and the others arrive soon after, and are looking tired.
"That was tiring, I never suspected it to be this far out of town," Mew says.
"Me neither," Misty says.
"I'm tired," Brock says.
Jen turns to see Chuck running from behind. Chuck soon arrives and like before, he's out of breath.
"You okay, Chuck?" Mew asks.
"I'm alright, give me a minute," Chuck says, and takes deep breaths.
And Chuck is soon back on his two feet.
"So is this the temple?" Misty asks.
"It sure is," Chuck says.
He soon looks around and wonders, "Huh. I wonder where Bruno is? He should be here by now."
"Bruno?" Brock says, confused.
Soon, Mew asks, "Wait, when you mention a Fighting Pokemon expert. Would the guy Bruno happen to be…"
"Hello, I didn't expect to see you again," A familiar voice says.
The group turns to see a familiar face walking out of the entrance of the temple. A familiar muscular, tall, tan man with black spiky hair, and wears white pants and s black belt.
"Hello. Mew, Brock, Misty, and Tomo. It's been a while, huh," The voice says.
The group, excluding Jen and Molly, react in surprise, "Bruno!"
"Oh, so you know him, huh," Chuck replies.
"Yeah. He's the Elite Four in the Kanto Region," Misty says.
"We met when I was training for the Pokemon league," Mew says.
"But what are you doing in Johto?" Tomo asks.
"Oh, I guess you haven't heard. Bruno is the official Elite Four in the Johto Region now," Chuck says.
That catches the others by surprise.
"Really?" Mew asks.
"Yes. Now I'm the Elite Four of the Johto Region," Bruno says.
Then notices Molly and Jen, "And I see your group has gotten bigger since I last saw you."
"I suppose so," Bruno, this is Jen and her Pokemon, Amaura. And this Molly," Mew introduces the girls to the Elite Four.
"Hello," Jen and Molly happily reply.
Amura also replies, "Amaur." (Hello.)
"Hi," Brunos says.
"So what are you doing outside of Cianwood City?" Misty asks.
"I'm here to check out this competition the Wild Fighting Pokemon put on. I heard there's going to be a lot of them this time around," Bruno says.
"That makes sense. You are an expert of Fighting Types," Brock says.
"We're planning to check out the tournament as well," Mew says.
"And see the two Tyrogues we met earlier," Molly happily says.
"Really? You've met two Tyrogues?" Chuck asks, taking an interest.
"Yeah. We saw them both earlier today," Brock says.
"And they seem to have different fighting styles as well," Mew says.
"The larger Tyrogue is very good with offense," Tomo says.
"And the smaller one mainly uses defenses while training," Jen adds.
"I think I know the two Tyrogues you're talking about. Those are actually brothers, so they train together all the time. Of course, the older brother is more into using offense, while the younger uses defense. They've been training alot for this competition," Chuck says.
"Good for them," Brock says.
"Right now, let's get in the temple to see the Pokemon compete for the goal," Chuck says.
Agreeing with the idea, everyone walks inside the temple to see so many different kinds of Fighting Types, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Tyrogues, Hitmontops, Primeape, Mankey Poliwrath, and other different kinds of fighting Pokemon.
"Wow. Look at all the Fighting Pokemon," Misty says.
"They must have trained hard for the competition," Brock says.
Then Bruno turns his head, "And it looks like they also have a prize for the winners."
The group turns to see a small shrine. It seems to have three statues of Pokemon. Two of them look very similar. They're large, bipedal Pokémon resembling a humanoid black bear with a wushu motif. It has a muscular build with long legs and long arms with large paws and claws for striking. Its body and head are covered in gray, black, and white fur, minus the yellow muzzle. The front of the pelt slightly resembles a traditional frog buttoned/braid buttoned hanging off ends on both front and back. The fur on its head is spikier and flares into a flowing white and black headband. The backs of Urshifu's hands, its knuckles, and the tops of its feet are also white-colored.
The one on the left statue's fur on top of its head and on its legs flows up, while its headband flares upward and backward. Its front fist raised, back fist lowered, and both feet planted.
The second one's fur on top of its head and on its legs flows down, while its headband flares forward and outward. It has its back fist raised, front fist lowered, and front foot lifted off the ground.
The one in the center is a smaller Pokemon. A small, bearlike Pokémon. Its body is primarily dark gray, with a yellow snout and white patches of fur on its head and chest. The patch of fur on its forehead partially covers its black eyes, and has two black downturned eyebrows on top. Additionally, there are two white ribbons of fur located behind its head. Its nose is black and it has a perpetual frown. It has black claws and toes, the latter of which are shaped like triangles. Its tail has a black, spiky appearance.
In front of the statues are the prizes for the competition. There are two scrolls, one of them is gray and the other is black. A black belt, and a headband that is red with flames on it.
"What Pokemon are those?" Molly asks.
"That's a Kubfu, and it evolved from Urshifu, in two separate forms. The one on the left is the Single Strike Style, and the one on the right is a Rapid Strike Style. All three of them are very rare Fighting Pokemon. Both Pokemon are from the Galar Region, but the Temple and the statues were built in their honor by Fighting Trainers," Bruno explains.
"Pretty cool," Tomo says,
Mew brings out her Pokedex, "Let's see…"
And Dexter says, "Kubfu, the Wushu Pokemon. A fighting Type. If Kubfu pulls the long white hair on its head, its fighting spirit heightens and power wells up from the depths of its belly."
And then Dexter says, "Urshifu, Single Strike Style. The Wushu Pokemon, and the evolved form of Kubfu. Inhabiting the mountains of a distant region, this Pokémon races across sheer cliffs, training its legs and refining its moves. It will evolve from Kubfu if presented with the Scroll of Darkness." And shows the picture of the black and gold scroll.
Dexter also says, "Urshifu, Rapid Strike Style. The Wushu Pokemon, and the evolved form of Kubfu. This form of Urshifu is a strong believer in defeating foes by raining many blows down on them. Its strikes are nonstop, flowing like a river. It will evolve from Kubfu if presented with the Scroll of Waters." And shows a picture of the gray and gold scroll.
"Hey, the scrolls look like the prizes for the competition," Brock says.
"They seem like a perfect prize to honor those Pokemon," Misty says.
"And the black belt seems like a perfect prize for a Fighting Pokemon," Tomo says.
"Yeah. Black Belts help give strength to Fighting Pokemons, and that Headband looks cool," Mew says.
Chuck turns his head to notice, "It looks like the competition is about to start. Let's go sit and watch."
Mew then brings out her Pokeball, "I like my Tyrogue to see this.
She then calls out her Tyrogue.
"Tyrogue," (Hi everyone.) Tyrogue says.
"Hi Tyrogue, you wanna watch a Fighting Pokemon competition with us?" Mew asks.
Mew's Tyrogue nods in agreement.
And soon, they hear a sound of the gong, and turn to see a Primepae hitting the gong with it fist, and all thFighting Pokemon gather and ready to compete.
"Looks like the competition is about to start," Brock says.
"We better move out of the way," Mew says.
Everyone agrees.
Soon the competition begins, Mew and the others, along with Chuck and Bruno watch as each Pokemon take turns fighting each other with their bare fists and sometimes using their moves to counter the other. They also see the Large Tyrogue and the small Tyrogue. The Large Tyrgoue uses more offense moves while the smaller Tyrogue uses defenses more. Of course, using their own unique abilities, they're able to win their rounds. Mew and the others are astonished to see the many different fighting Pokemon taking part as much as they want to see it.
The competition continues until they reach the last round of the competition. The Large Tyrogue is fighting against the smaller Tyrogue. The ones Mew and her friends have met earlier.
"This Kung Fu Competition was pretty intense," Misty says.
"Yeah. And Those Two Tyrogues are now going to battle against each other," Tomo says.
"And now it all comes down to one fighter. Winner takes all," Chuck says.
Mew turns to Bruno, "Who do you think is going to win?"
"I must admit, Mew. I believe either one of them can win. However, it's possible that it could go both ways. One Tyrgoue highly uses Offense, and the other uses Defense," Bruno says.
.Mew nods in agreement. Soon, the Primeape rings the gong and the final match of the fighting competition begins. And with that, the two Tyrogues begin to battle against one another, using defense and offense. Even so, the large Tyrogue continues to use offense while the small Tyrogue uses defense. They both clash one attack after the other, Mew and her friends are very impressed.
"Wow. Look at them go," Tomo says.
"Yeah. They're both battling it out," Jen says.
"Well, I have to agree Bruno, this is going to be a close match. But still, the large one does have some advantage because of his size and strong offense," Mew says.
"That may be true, but the Smaller Tyrogue is small, but it's pretty fast with its reflex, agility, and the defense. With the small size and quick reflex, it has a strong defense," Bruno says.
"Yep. Either one of them can win this match," Chuck says.
Then notices, "And it looks like your Tyrogue is really taking an interest in the fight."
Mew looks down to see Tyrogue watches with a serious look on his face.
"I'm guessing you're concentrating on the fight to get some pointers," Mew says.
"Rogue," (Yep.) Mew's Tyrogue says with a nod.
Mew's Tyrogue continues to watch as the two Tyrogues continue to attack each other. Large Tyrogue continues to use Offense attacks like Brick Break, Mega Punch, and other attacks. The small Typrogue uses some attacks, but mainly focuses on using attacks like Protect, Bulk Up, and Curve. Both of them continue the attack.
Finally, when they both perform an attack, both Tyrogues begin to glow, catching everyone in the temple by surprise.
"What's happening?" Molly asks, surprised.
"They're evolving," Brock says.
Soon enough, the Large Tyrogue has evolved into Hitmonchan while the Small Tyrogue evolves into Hitmonlee.
"Wow. they really evolved," Jen says.
"The Large Tyrogue is a Hitmonlee now," Misty says.
"And the small Tyrogue is a Hitmonchan," Chuck says.
And with that, Hitmonlee begins to perform a lot of kicking attacks while Hitmonchan performs the punching attacks.
"Looks like they're fighting again," Tomo says.
"Well the competition is still on until one of them is defeated," Bruno says.
"True, and they're both strong in their own way," Mew says.
Mew and the others continue to watch the two fighting Pokemon going at it, Hitmonchan continues to dodge and throw punches, while Hitmonlee continues with multiple kicks. Neither one of them has any intention to stop.
Misty grows concerned, "Uh, anyone besides me is getting concerned about this match?"
"I have to admit, I'm actually starting to get worried," Mew says.
"Yeah," Molly says.
"They're really going at it," Jen says.
"And they don't show signs of stopping," Brock says.
Chuck soon says, "Seems so. Then again, I should have seen this coming."
"What do you mean?" Tomo asks.
"Well, those two do love to fight and are very itchy in winning this competition. However, they tend to get carried away at times. Sometimes, when they're very determined, once they start fighting, they won't stop until one can't battle anymore," Chuck says.
That doesn't sound good for Mew and the others. They turn to see the two Pokemon are really going at it, and have no plan of stopping. And it shows signs that the two are getting tired, and hurt, but they still won't stop.
"I think we should do something," Mew says.
"But what can we do?" Misty asks.
"Pika Pika," (This is getting bad.) Sparkle says.
"Loetta," (I can't watch.) Meloetta says, covering her eyes.
Just then, Mew's Tyrogue steps forward, ready to battle them.
"Tyrogue? You want to battle them?" Mew asks.
Tyrogue nods.
Mew nods and says, "Alright Tyrogue, let's break up this fight."
"Tyrogue," (On it.) Tyrogue says, and jumps onto the battlefield.
Mew then calls out, "Let's start by using Brick Break."
And with that, Mew's Tyrogue uses Brick Break at both of them causing them to stop fighting. The two fighting Types turn to see Tyrogue, ready to fight with determination. And with that, both of them charge to attack Tyrogue for inferring their match.
"Mew, watch out!" Misty cries out.
"Pika Pika!" (You too, Tyrogue!) Pikachu cries out.
Mew calls out, "Tyrogue, use Protect!"
Tyrogue then uses Protect, causing the two's attack to be pushed back at the two Pokemon.
"Tyrogue, use Bulk Up!" Mew calls out.
And using that, Tyrogue's attack increases.
Tyrogue then uses Bulk Up at Hitmonchan comes dashing over with a Focus Punch.
Mew calls out, "Tyrogue, dodge and use Secret Power!"
Tyrogue dodges jump and perform Secret Power, attacking both of them. The two Pokemonare not down. Just then, Hitmonchan performs the attack.
"Look out Mew, Hitmonchan is using Vacuum Wave!" Brock calls out.
Mew calls out, "Tyrogue, dodge the attack."
Tyrogue begins to run and jumps to dodge the attack.
"Look out, here comes Hitmonlee!" Molly calls out.
Mew and Tyrogue turn to see Hitmonlee performing Double Kick at Tyrogue.
"Tyrogue!" Mew cries out.
And then Hitmonchan performs Close Combat at Tyrogue with full force. Tyrogue soon falls to the ground and struggles to get up.
"Tyrogue, are you okay?!" Mew calls out.
Tyrogue struggles to get up, but Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan begin to charge for a double attack. Hitmonchan performs Focus Punch while Hitmonlee performs High Jump Kick.
"Tyrogue!" Mew cries out and runs out to Tyrogue.
Mew mananges to grab Tyrogue, but before she can escape, Mew is hit with both attacks and falls to the ground.
"EEVEE!" (MEW!) Eevee cries out.
"OH NO!" Brock cries out.
Tyrogue looks up to see Mew is holding him as she lies on the ground.
"Ty Tyrogue," (Are you okay?) Tyrogue asks, worried.
Mew struggles to sit up as she says, "Don't worry, I'm okay. Are you okay?"
Tyrogue slowly nods in reply. Mew grits her teeth and feels pain on her back. Tyrogue shows a glared and determined expression on his face. He leaves Mew's arms and then confronts the two Pokemon who look dumbfounded.
"TY ROGUE!" Tyrogue shouts a battle cry and begins to glow.
"Well, looks like things are getting interesting," Chuck says.
"Machoke," (Right.) Machoke says.
"Mew's Tyrogue," Jen says.
"He's…" Brock says.
"Evolving," Jen says.
Tyrogue changes his form and soon the glow disappears, revealing that Tyrogue has evolved into a Hitmontop.
"Wow Tyr… I mean, Hitmontop, you've evolved," Mew says, happily.
Hitmontop turns to Mew and nods, "Hitmontop," (That's right.)
Mew brings out her Pokedex, and Dexter says, "Hitmontop, the Handstand Pokemon and the evolved form of Tyrogue. A Fighting Type. Hitmontop spins on its head at high speed, all the while delivering kicks. This technique is a remarkable mix of both offense and defense at the same time. The Pokémon travels faster spinning than it does walking."
"And it looks like you've learned a couple of new moves," Mew says, looking at her Pokedex.
Then says, "Alright Tyrogue, let's finish this."
"Top," (Yeah.) Hitmontop says.
"Alright then, let's start with your tackle attack," Mew says.
Hitmontop then begins to perform Tackle as he stands on his head and spins right past them.
"Now let's start with your first new move, use Triple Kick!" Mew calls out.
And with that, Hitmon top begins to perform a Triple kick. One strikes at Hitmonchan. The other at Hitmonlee. The last at both of them. Hitmonchan then tries to throw punches at them.
"Hitmontop, spin and dodge that Focus Punch!" Mew calls out.
Hitmontop spins and moves away from Hitmonchan's attack, but Hitmonlee moves to try a sneak attack.
"Hitmontop jump and use Tackle!" Mew calls out.
Hitmontop jumps to dodge and then tackles Hitmonlee at the chest.
"And now Tyrogue, give them both your Rapid Spin attack!" Mew calls out.
Hitmontop then performs Rapid Spin at top speed and strikes both Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan that sends them both flying in the air. Soon, they both crash to the ground and are knocked out.
"Alright! We did it, Hitmontop! You beat them," Mew happily says.
"Hitmon!" (Sure did!) Hitmontop says, raising his fist up.
Sometime later, after the match.
Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan apologize, "Hitmon," (We're sorry.)
"That's okay. We know you didn't mean to," Mew says.
Then turns to the others, "They said they're sorry."
"That's okay. Anyone can get excited by the competition," Brock says.
"We're glad that you both were able to stop now," Misty says.
"Indeed," Chuck says.
Then Bruno says to Mew, "And Mew, we're impressed on how well you and Hitmontop worked together, and his evolution proved it."
"Thank you, Bruno," Mew says.
"Hitmontop," (Thank you.) Hitmontop says.
Just then, two Mankey and a different Hitmonlee come up to Mew and Hitmontop, and present the prizes to them
"What are they doing?" Tomo asks.
"I think they decided that since they beat Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, and have proven to be well with fighting, they decide to give Hitmontop and Mew the prizes," Brock suspects.
"Really?" Mew asks.
The Pokemon nods in reply. Even Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan agree.
"Oh…" Mew replies. She then smiles and says, "Thank you."
Hitmontop happily says, "Hitmon," (Thank you.)
And soon, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee approach Hitmontop and each present a fist towards him. Hitmontop understands with a smile and gives them both a fist bump. And with that all three raise their fist up in the air with smiles. Mew and the others smile to see that the three are now friends, maybe even like brothers.
Later, everyone leaves the temple and heads back to the city after the day they have.
"Well, this sure has been an eventful day," Misty says.
"Yeah. We saw a great competition," Tomo says.
"Even though things got scary," Molly says.
"True, but things turned good in the end. I ended up having great prizes, My Tyrogue evolved into Hitmontop, and I've got two new friends, especially Hitmontop's brother figures," Mew says.
"Yeah. Those three are getting along alright," Chuck says.
"Almost like brothers," Bruno says.
Everyone looks ahead to see Hitmontop, Hitmonlee, and Hirtmonchan are walking together and are determined to stay together like brothers.
