A/N - I'd like to say that this isn't meant to be me bashing Asuka. In fact I actually prefer Asuka x Shinji, over Rei x Shinji, but I can't just ignore her trauma and attitude. So yah, I might be a bit hard on her but that won't last forever.
As always, all characters involved in intimate acts are 18 and I own none of the properties involved.
"Wow! I never thought I'd actually get to fly in one of these. It sure is nice having good friends in high places" Kensuke said with excitement as he pressed his face up against the window of the helicopter with his camera. Toji right next to him as he spoke with Misato.
Shinji smiled slightly at their antics. He was glad Misato invited his friends along. He liked seeing them happy.

Plus they acted as a good diversion from him and his secret girlfriend, who was sitting next to him, discreetly holding his hand while she feigned an emotionless mask.
Shinji did his best to hide a grin as he glanced over at Rei. He was amazed that she had convinced his father to let her come without giving anything away. Apparently playing into her emotionless facade and Shinji's previous lackluster piloting history. Saying she could step in as extra insurance and how she could just be replaced.
Shinji fought the urge to grit his teeth at the idea of his father trying to just replace her with another clone. Whipping away all of their experiences together.
He did a better job of hiding it then one might expect.
The two had come a long way since their happy accident in her apartment. Shinji becoming more sure of himself and with a greater desire to live, and Rei actually being a human being for a change and not a mindless automation.
Unfortunately, that created a problem for them.
Rei had explained everything to Shinji after their first time together and after coming to terms with what Rei was, what Eva was, as well as what his father had done and what he was planing, they had decided to keep their relationship a secret and pretend they were still behaving according to the Commander's scenario, until they figured something out.
Something that was very difficult for the two of them, and especially for Rei. Having to act cold to the person they loved, most of the time was bad enough, but Rei was still getting used to her new emotions too. Shinji helped where he could but it was made that much harder when Rei's pregnancy hormones started kicking in.
And yes, Rei was vey much pregnant. Shinji had trusted her when she said she was and explained her connection to Lilith, but she had taken a test a few weeks later anyway, just to be sure.
And that was another thing that did not sit well with Shinji. The fact that he couldn't be there to support Rei more because of his own father. Some days it made him feel sick to his stomach, not being able to do anything and sitting at home so far away and not knowing if anything had happened to Rei and their unborn children in his absence.
Which was why Shinji was thankful for moments like this. Where he could be close to Rei without having to worry about getting caught.
Sure Misato was right there and they would soon be surrounded by soldiers, but right now no one was paying attention to them and they were far away from the Commander and his Section 2 lackeys.
Shinji looked to the others to make sure they still weren't paying attention, before turning his gaze back to Rei and squeezing her hand lightly and was happy to feel her squeeze back.
It was the most public they had been with their affections in quite a while and he couldn't help but let his eyes roam her figure.
She wasn't showing yet, aside from her cup size going from AA to A and was close to becoming a B. And thank goodness she was somehow able to fake out her annual check ups with NERV, thanks to her Angel biology.
Shinji felt his hormones getting the better of him though, from the close proximity and contact with his secret lover after so long being unable to express themselves, and judging by her eyes occasionally flicking to him and roaming his own body, she was feeling the same.
The two hadn't been intimate in a while, on account of Section 2 stepping up their game to try and keep an eye on them after Shinji and Rei slipped away for a rendezvous, one too many times.
Shinji felt the blush rising to his face at the memory, but was quickly broken from his moment with Rei by his good friends.
"Right Shinji!?" Kensuke yelled back over the muffled but still loud noise of the helicopter. Causing the two to quickly separate from each other. Shinji a little less gracefully but that was thankfully more in line with how people expected him to act.
"I-I'm sorry, what was that?" Shinji called back with a stutter at nearly being caught.
"I said that I'm right about this ship! The Over The Rainbow! It's an original Second Impact classic!" the military otaku explained with excitement as he pointed out the window, to which Toji simply rolled his eyes.
"I-I guess so..." Shinji trailed off with a stutter, not having to fake his meek persona as much this time as he really had no idea.
The rest of the flight went on like this with little deviation. With Misato paying more attention to Shinji's boisterous and excited friends while Shinji and Rei wordlessly showed their affection for one another right under everyone's noses.
"Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!" Kensuke repeated over and over again as he looked all around at everything with his camera, while Togi chased after his hat that was blown away.
Shinji simply stretched while he hung back with the ever stoic Rei. Though he did discreetly scan the crowd of crewmen that were watching them with amusement. It was a habit he'd picked up while trying to avoid Section 2.
He was slightly startled though, when he heard Rei gasp slightly and turned his attention to her.
Her mask was mostly intact, but he knew her well enough by now to see through it. One of her quirks that Shinji had picked up on was how she reacted when she came in contact with mentally unstable or depressed people.
Because she could feel AT fields as well as her own emotions now, she could also feel other people's emotions to a degree, which was partly why they had clicked so well. Usually she could keep it in check, but whenever they met someone who was really broken and hurting inside, it effected her pretty badly.
Surprisingly, Misato had triggered this kind of reaction in her after she and Shinji got together.
"For Rei to be this shaken, whoever it is must be as bad as I was before me and Rei got together" Shinji thought as he turned to see who was so mentally broken, only for his eyes to widen as he was given a wonderful view of a redhead German girl, roughly his age, with her yellow sundress blown up by a gust of wind and revealing her white panties to the world.
This wonderful view was quickly followed up with a hard slap to the face by said girl as she gave the same treatment to all the boys present.
"Ow! What was that for!?" Toji yelled while they all rubbed the red handprints on their faces.
"The price of admission" the redhead replied dismissively.
"Oh yah, then why don't I return the favor them!" Toji yelled back and yanked down his pants as some twisted form of revenge.
Shinji only felt a little sympathy for his muscle headed friend, as he received another handprint on the other side of his face as the girl shrieked.
"Hello Asuka, I see you're doing well. Have you gotten taller?" Misato greeted the girl with familiarity.
"Hello Misato, I have and I'm filling out in all the right places" the now named Asuka replied while trying to look appealing but simultaneously sending death glares at the boys. Though Shinji wasn't sure if she was just being boastful or delusional about her figure. She was nearly as thin and petite as Rei had been before her pregnancy.
Shinji's eyes widened and he nearly slapped himself for letting his mind wander there.
"Pull yourself together Ikari. Just because you haven't been with Rei in a while, doesn't mean you can ogle another girl" Shinji chastised himself as he came back to the present.
"So, where's this other pilot I've been hearing so much about? Please tell me it isn't this sleaze ball" Asuka said with a high and mighty tone that rubbed Shinji and Rei the wrong way.
Misato just laughed though "no, it's actually these two here, Shinji and Rei. Though I'm guessing it's Shinji you've been hearing about" she replied and Asuka strutted up to them, eyeing the two up and down.
"Huh, not very impressive" she said dismissively while flicking Shinji on the forehead lightly before looking to Rei and pausing. A look of what might have been disgust briefly passing across her face at Rei emotionless mask.
Pre-relationship Shinji would have probably disregarded Asuka's tsundere personality or more likely been too meek to look too deeply into Asuka's behavior. Instead preferring to avoid her temper.
But now and given how Rei reacted to her, he was paying closer attention. His own trauma and experience with Rei granting him insight that the others, save for maybe Misato, didn't have.
And he didn't see the spoiled brat everyone else saw.
Instead what he and Rei saw was a scared little girl in an eighteen year old's body. A girl who was emotionally scarred and craving attention but too scared to let anyone close, so she pushed everyone away and burned anyone that tied to push back.
"Well great. I can already tell this is going to be a fun trip" Shinji thought sarcastically, as he knew just how hard it was to deal with this kind of trauma. It took Rei literally weakening the barrier between his soul and her's and forcing him to embrace his emotions while fucking her senseless for him to shape up.
Shinji did his best to try and enjoy the rest of the trip, but Asuka proved a constant hurtle in that regard. All high and mighty and constantly bragging and making it impossible for him and Rei to sneak a little private handholding or the occasional shoulder brush.
Plus Asuka seamed to dislike Rei for some unknown reason, which pissed Shinji off a little bit. But of corse nether one could express their feelings on the matter without blowing their secret, so they just had to sit and stew while they waited.
The arrival and introduction of Kaji had been a pleasant and surprising break, as well as a nice buffer between Asuka and them, though Shinji did find her pining for him to be a little weird and painfully one-sided. Rei was already making plans to break that up though and push him and Misato back together with a little nudge to their AT Fields.
Right now though, Shinji was this close to facepalming as Asuka started complaining to the captain about her Eva, which they were transporting, when he felt a light nudge to his side.
He only needed to spare a glance at Rei to know what she was planning. They had used this trick several times before after all.
"Mayor Katsuragi" she called when she noticed a break in the conversation.
"What is it Rei?" Misato asked the stoic girl.
"If I may be excused. The flight was rather long and I need to relieve myself" she explained in the usual precise and emotionless fashion, that tended to unnerve some people. A surprisedly useful trait at times when she just needed time to herself.
"Sure, go ahead Rei. On that note, does anyone else need to go while you have the chance?" She asked and all the boys raised their hands as Kensuke and Toji realized they really did need to go, while Shinji hid a smirk. Only feeling slightly guilty for bringing them drinks before they left, just for this.
"Ugh, boys" Asuka groaned and made some snide comments but Shinji was already making his way through the bulkhead and down the corridor to the bathrooms.
He did his business like everyone else, if only so he wouldn't have to lie about why he was here and then stepped out into the corridor and looked around.
"Looks like the coast is clear" Shinji thought as he made his way down the corridor to another set of facilities. This was a military vessel after all, so men and women restrooms weren't really a thing, but Rei and the boys had separated anyway for appearances sake. Shinji couldn't help but smirk though as he went.
"Sometimes Rei's powers feel like cheating" he thought as he observed the empty corridor. Her ability to nudge people's AT fields to disorient and confused people, or just outright make them frisky if she used that Lilith part of her, was very useful sometimes.
And so he allowed himself a rare, bare faced smile as Rei opened the door to the restroom he was standing in front of and she returned it.
Her smile quickly turned predatory though as she allowed her mask to completely slide off and she yanked Shinji in by the collar of his shirt.
Rei found herself pinned to the wall of the showers with her legs wrapped tightly around Shinji, who was smashing his lips against her's furiously. All the tension that had been building up was finally being released as she curled his hair up in her fingers and he gripped her ass under her skirt.
The two gasped for breath as they finally came up for air and smiled lovingly at each other.
"I missed you" Shinji said and Rei understood what he meant. Even though they saw each other every day, they weren't able to truly be with each other unless they had total privacy.
"I missed you too" Rei spoke back before leaning forward and kissing his neck.
Shinji growled lightly with lust and sexual frustration, before pushing her back against the wall and pulling her shirt open, carful not to pop any buttons off. He then lifted her bra up and attacked her breasts.
She wasn't producing anything yet, but that wouldn't stop Shinji from trying every chance he got. Part of him couldn't wait for Rei's belly to swell until the truth was viable for all the world to see, but the rationale part of his brain knew they needed to deal with his father first.
That didn't matter right now though. At this moment, all that mattered was his needy girlfriend, as well as his own needs.
"S-Shinji..." Rei quickly got out between pants "we need to be quick" she said and Shinji knew she was right. Fortunately, he was so pent up he could probably finish up quickly, though did hope he could satisfy Rei as well.
Shinji reached down between them and unzipped his pants and pulled his spear out and aimed it at Rei's barred doorway. He then pull her panties to the side as he lined up and thrust in.
Rei bit into Shinji's shoulder as he worked his way inside. Even after all this time, she was still incredibly tight and Shinji had to force his way inside every time.
Rei's moans were muffled by Shinji's shoulder as he grunted into her own without biting her.
Then he began thrusting into her violently. His hips becoming a blur as he slammed into Rei, who squealed into the bite she left on Shinji, as her insides clamped down hard on him.
Her nails stared to dig into Shinji's back and he quickly kissed her to smother her screams as he brought her to a swift climax.
Shinji was surprised she came so soon, but they were both pretty pent up and as much as he wanted to keep going and finish, he stopped to give Rei time to come down.
Rei was a screamer as he'd learned, and they didn't need to get caught because he made her go delirious from pleasure and cry out.
So Shinji held absolutely still while supporting his lover's weight.
"Rei..." he whispered in her ear with concern.
"I...I need a moment..."Rei managed to get out as she came down from her high. But she then noticed that Shinji wasn't finished yet.
"You haven't cum yet" she said but Shinji just stroked her face lovingly.
"I can wait a moment" he told her and she smiled back before giving him a light peck on the lips.
"I guess I can't blame you for being worked up after Asuka gave you a show earlier" Rei said as she unwrapped one of her legs from Shinji and put it to the ground.
Shinji sputtered a bit at that.
"I-I'm sorry...I know I shouldn't think of other girls that way, especially when I'm with you..." Shinji apologized with shame.
He was surprised though, when Rei just giggled lightly at him, before cupping his face and giving him a kiss.
"It's ok Shinji. That just natural for people. Especially one who's been hurt as much as you" Rei replied and Shinji was stunned by how much care and compassion he felt from her.
Rei then looked thoughtful though.
"On that note...what do you think of Asuka?" she asked, much to Shinji's surprise. After all, it wasn't everyday your girlfriend asked your opinion of another girl while you were buried to the hilt inside her.
"Asuka..." Shinji hummed as he thought of the brash and boastful girl.
"I want to feel sympathy for her since we know she's just as broken as we were. I want to try and understand and maybe help her...but...she just makes it so hard..." Shinji trailed off.
Rei seamed thoughtful for a moment and nervous about what she was about to suggest.
"Then...maybe I could help with that..." she trailed off and Shinji focused back on her with a hum.
"I could maybe help you get her to open up...like when we first got together..." Rei continued with a little nervousness.
Shinji just looked at her with confusion at first though, but then his eyes widened as he understood what she was trying to say and nearly pulled away from her in shock, had she not held him to her.
"Y-y-y-you want me to..." Shinji stuttered out in disbelief until Rei gave him a kiss to silence him and calm him down. Shinji was still stunned though when she pulled back.
"Asuka needs help before she hurts herself and we both want to help her. So the answer is simple" Rei explained simply as some of her old blunt and logical self peeked through.
Shinji was silent for a moment as he pondered what Rei said.
"Rei...are you sure you'd be ok with me...being with another girl?..." he asked with trepidation and awkwardness. Rei just smiled at him though.
"Not just anyone. But I can tell Asuka is very much like you underneath that hard shell. And besides, you're forgetting that my instinct to reproduce doesn't stop with just myself" Rei admitted with a slight blush.
Shinji's eyes widened at that.
Shinji found himself very conflicted. He didn't want to risk things with Rei but she was the one asking for it. Plus Rei's abilities couldn't force a connection, it could only make people be honest with themselves about it. Plus the idea of knocking up the gorgeous redhead was also getting him excited.
Something that Rei noticed as his manhood twitched inside her, making her gasp and start grinding against him.
"Err...I need to think about it..." was the only answer Shinji could grunt out as he began pumping into his girlfriend again.
Rei just smiled at him as she wrapped her leg around him again.
"Take all the time you need" she moaned out as he picked up the pace.
Shinji growled as he pushed Rei into the wall and felt her squeeze him as they both barreled towards his long awaited climax.
"HAY, WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU TWO!"
"Shit!" the both whisper yelled as Asuka called out.
Rei then grimaced as she felt outwards with her AT field.
"She's coming this way" she grunted out and they both gave frustrated groans as Shinji pulled out and they quickly made themselves presentable.
Meanwhile, Asuka was fuming as she marched down the corridors of the ship, looking for the other pilots.
"Hm, just were did those two get off to? Don't they know we have important things to do?" she asked herself.
"What did you expect after treating them like trash?" Her inner voice answered back and she grimaced. Her subconscious had been more talkative ever since meeting that doll Rei.
"Shut up! I don't need you anymore then I need those other so-called pilots stealing the show" Asuka thought to herself.
"Sure, you totally don't need anyone, like you don't need Kaji's approval, or NERV's for that matter" the voice shot back sarcastically.
"I said shut up. I don't need anybody. And once they all see that no one will abandon me again" she whisper shouted to herself.
"Right...because no one will be there to abandon you in the first place...no one except yourself..." the voice jabbed at her again and Asuka grit her teeth.
"Pilot Soryu" Rei suddenly spoke up from behind her, startling Asuka.
"Gah! What are you doing sneaking around like that!?" she exclaimed. To which the boy standing next to her, which Asuka only now noticed, simply blinked.
"We weren't hiding. You walked right passed us as we came out the other hallway" Shinji spoke with a frustrated undertone.
"Humf...well why did you decide to sneak off after the stooges came back from your little potty break." Asuka shot back.
"Probably avoiding you"
Asuka did her best to ignore the voice.
"I bet you two were up to something perverted" she mocked them, only to see anger and frustration shot back at her. Even the ever stoic Rei looked a little peeved.
"Well would you look at that! Even the doll knows you're a pain in the neck. You can't really blame them though" Asuka's inner voice continued in spite of her best efforts to silence it.
It actually did surprise her though. Shinji had seamed like a wimp and Rei an emotionless doll. The change actually made them more tolerable to be around, but it didn't change her opinion very much.
"What do you want Asuka?" Shinji spoke bluntly and with irritation. He had already been pent up and sexually frustrated do to his time apart from Rei and now Asuka had basically blue balled him and Rei.
Sure Rei had gotten a release and was less frustrated but she had been close to another and she hated leaving Shinji hanging.
Whatever Asuka needed better be important...
"SHE JUST WANTED TO SHOW OFF HER EVA!!!" both Shinji and Rei thought with furry as Asuka had her back to them, with her hands on her hips and her legs spread as she gazed upon her red mech.
Shinji offhandedly considered strangling Asuka for interrupting his and Rei's privet time together just to show off some more.
Rei took Shinji's hand in her's and gently squeezed it to calm him down.
It worked a little bit but he could tell she was irritated too.
"We'll be working with her for the foreseeable future...we need to deal with her toxic personality soon" Rei whispered to him as the redhead droned on about how great her Eva was and Shinji couldn't help but agree with Rei.
One way or another, they had to do something about Asuka.
Before anything else could happen though, Rei suddenly gasped and gripped his hand tightly while her other flew to her belly protectively.
Shinji's own eyes widened in response. He knew Rei well enough by now to know what this meant.
"An Angel is coming" Rei whispered, and her words were proven true not long after, as the alarms blared to life and the Angel's arrival was announced.
Asuka just smirked though as she looked up at the nearest speaker.
"Perfect. Now you can see what I can really do" she said as she grabbed the others by the wrists and pulled them along with her.
"What do you think you're doing?" Shinji asked as she pulled them to an empty stairwell and pulled out a duffel bag.
"What else, we're going to cream that Angel" Asuka replied as she pulled out two plug suits and tossed them to the secret couple before pulling one out for herself.
"Wait, you want all three of us in the same Eva!?" Shinji protested but stalled a little as he saw Rei already undressing.
"Eek! What do you think you're doing, changing where everyone can see you!?" Asuka shrieked as she pointed to her.
Rei simply looked up as she was in the process of removing her shirt.
"We are military personnel. Dawning our plug suits together will be a common occurrence" she said in monotone.
"Well leave me out of it until then!" Asuka yelled as she ducked behind a bulkhead to change out of view.
Shinji and Rei watched her go for a moment, before looking at each other and Rei's mask cracked a little as they both giggled quietly.
"So I assume you have a plan?" Shinji said as he disrobed and slipped into the plug suit Asuka gave him.
Personally he would have rather gone naked then wearing the girl's suit, but he suspected Asuka would be very vocal and physical with her displeasure.
...
Plus, it gave Shinji the perfect opportunity to ogle Rei slipping into her's without anyone watching, and seeing the suit tailored to Asuka's measurement, struggle to seal around her slightly bigger bust and causing her nipples to show through.
However, Shinji was surprised to see the slightest of bumps on Rei's belly. He hadn't actually seen her naked in a while so he didn't realize her bump had grown visible to those looking for it and he had to fight the urge to touch it.
Of corse this all was after sealing his own suit. It would have been uncomfortable to try and seal it over his erection, and Rei was more then happy to make a show out of it for him, if only briefly. Running her hand over her curves and arching her back to show off her small bump.
Shinji quickly got his hormones under control though, as the ship rocked slightly from the Angle's attack.
"I do have a plan. I don't have time to explain though" Rei whispered to Shinji.
Shinji stepped closer to Rei and placed his hand on her belly with concern and enjoyed how much tighter it was then the last time he got to touch it.
"Are you sure it will be safe for the both of you?" he asked quietly so Asuka wouldn't hear.
Rei smiled at him, though he could tell there was some nervousness.
"It'll be fine Shinji. The Babies won't feel a thing and will be completely safe" she reassured him while placing her own hands over his.
Shinji sighed. He really didn't like letting his pregnant girlfriend get into the Eva but he knew they had no choice.
And so he pulled away as Rei did and Asuka returned to them in her plug suit.
"Alright, just sit back and watch the pro handle this" she boasted and Shinji had to resist the urge to roll his eyes.
The three quickly submerged themselves in the entry plug's LCL and Asuka went about turning everything on.
Shinji grimaced at the smell and taste of the LCL. Especially now that he knew it really was blood. Lilith's blood to be precise.
The only good feeling he derived from this was that he could finally run his hands up and down the smooth curves of Rei in a plug suit and gave her butt a squeeze, as they braced themselves behind Asuka in the pilot's seat.
"Bucket list item number 2, check" Shinji thought as he discreetly grouped Rei in her plug suit.
Shinji had to stop though as the lights kicked on as the Eva powered up.
An error of some kind popped up briefly and Asuka complained about thinking in German instead of Japanese, which only confused Shinji, before she relented and changed the settings.
Shinji sighed as they synced with the Eva. Asuka's unit felt different from his and now that he knew why, thanks to Rei, everything about Eva just freaked him out more. Ironically, his and Rei's sync ratio had never been higher, so at least they had that going for them.
Asuka then suddenly looked back at them with a scowl.
"And don't you get any ideas back there pervert" she warned, much to Shinji chagrin.
"Why would her mind even go there during an Angel attack?" Shinji thought, though was embarrassed that it was partially true. But who could blame him when he was trapped in a confined space with two beautiful girls, including his pregnant girlfriend, in skin tight suits that left nothing to the imagination, after getting blue balled.
"It's probably because we're synced together. Our unsatisfied libidos are effecting her...plus I think she's just as sexually frustrated as us but just doesn't understand it" Rei spoke in his mind and Shinji nodded in agreement...
Before realizing she SPOKE IN HIS MIND, and nearly freaked out but Rei grabbed his hand and there was an almost static discharge like feeling and suddenly he was calm.
"It's ok Shinji. Asuka can't hear us like this. Her sync rate is too low. Being in LCL amplifies my abilities it seams and we've never tried syncing with other humans before" Rei explained as Asuka finished booting up the Eva and they felt her trying to make it rise.
She did a decent job without their help but they could tell she was fighting the soul inside the Eva more then working with it as they'd leaned to do under the Commander's nose.
Reason why they weren't helping?
Because Asuka's mind was scathing to come in contact with. The moment they even tried to help, she became like a feral dog. Biting and growling at them, so they eventually just sat back and let Asuka do all of the work like she wanted...
...
Even though she somehow managed to complain to them about not pulling their weight as she began hopping from ship to ship against the timer ticking down until they loose power.
Shinji bit the inside of his cheek as he tried to distance himself from Asuka's mind in favor of his girlfriend's. It should have been easy, given how much she was pushing them away, but being in LCL and syncing with all three of them, had given Shinji the slightest taste of what Rei could feel from her.
He didn't know if he was somehow sharing Rei's power through the Eva or something, but it was like he saw through Asuka. Her biting, toxic exterior was just a wall she'd built up around a broken heart and her scathing words lost much of their bite as a result.
Shinji focused back on the situation at hand, as they landed and plugged the Eva into the power supply they had brought with them. Misato also called in to confirm everything.
"Alright, let's see how well she does" Shinji thought as they scanned around for the Angel.
"She's trained to be a pilot since she was a child. She should be competent enough to hold her own" Rei reassured him and he smiled gratefully to her.
It was at this point that the large aquatic Angel breached the surface like a whale. It was somewhat shaped like one with purplish skin and a too large mouth.
"There it is!" Asuka exclaimed and jumped off the ship after it.
"WHAT IS SHE THINKING!" Shinji and Rei thought simultaneously as they hit the water and fell like bait on a fishing line.
"Ha! I dare that Angle to come closer so I-"
"Are you insane you idiot!?" Shinji yelled, cutting off Asuka's next bout of boasting as she looked back at him in shock. Asuka looked like a fish out of water. Almost as if she never had anyone talk back to her before. And that it was coming from Shinji of all people was especially surprising.
"Well what the heck are YOU planning to do about it stupid!? Why shouldn't I go after the Angel? Or are you just a coward?" she yelled back, trying to assert her dominance. Only for Shinji to scowl at her with an intimidating aura that promised suffering.
Asuka was quickly learning how intimidating a confident and angry Shinji could be. Especially when his unborn children were in the line of fire.
Asuka attempted to ignore Shinji's presence by turning to Rei, only to see furry and disappointment in her face as well.
"This unit is not equipped for underwater combat. We are now immobile and dangling out in the open for the Angel to attack us as it pleases" Rei explained with a sharp tone.
Asuka froze up at the realization that Rei was right and started sweating. What really set Shinji off though, was that she was more concerned with how this would look to the Commander and not the fact they might die because of it.
As punctuated by the Angel swimming at them at high speed.
The couple quickly pushed passed Asuka and grabbed a control handle each and wrenched control away from Asuka. The two then worked in perfect sync with each other, as well as the Eva.
Rei manipulated the AT field and pushed it to the maximum in front of them while Shinji grabbed their power umbilical and shifted their weight so they swung to the side a little. Just enough so when the Angel rammed into them and hit their AT field, they were sent flying up.
"Hay! What do you think your doing!? Get your hands off my Ev-" Asuka was silenced by the rage filled stares of the other pilots. More so Shinji then Rei, and Asuka was stunned by how terrified she found she was.
"I'm not dying down here because some rookie wants to show off! I've got way too much to live for!" Shinji roared as he looked back to the screen and the surface fast approaching, from the Angel knocking them aside.
"Just a little closer..." Shinji muttered as they got closer to one of the ships.
Only to stall as the Angel grabbed their umbilical in it's mouth, halting their momentum and sending them back down as the Angel kept going, like a fish caught on a line.
The three pilots gasped in surprise and, for the two with higher sync rates, pain, as they were thrown around. Shinji quickly grabbed Rei to cushion her and their unborn children from getting knocked against the walls of the plug, since they weren't strapped down like Asuka was.
Shinji grimaced as pain shot through his back. Both from the Eva and his own back hitting the wall several times.
He then turned his gaze back to the screens and his eyes widened.
"Shit!" he cursed as he saw a giant mouth coming right at them and Asuka quickly moved to grab it with the Eva's hands. Holding the Angel's mouth open before finally giving way and they were trapped between it's lips.
"Well...this is just perfect..." Shinji grunted out. His meek and craven mask having long since crumbled away at this point.
"Well I'd like to see you do better-".
"WOULD YOU JUST SHUT UP ALREADY!!!" Shinji screamed at Asuka, halting her complaints as she found herself the meek and cowering one now, as Shinji loomed over her.
"You're the one who dragged us along, boasting all the way while belittling us, then charging off like a suicidal idiot without a second thought as to what you were fighting and how, or with any concern for those you dragged along just to show off! Now all you want to do is complain and fight us the whole way. Are you looking for approval or do you just like being an asshole!? MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!!" Shinji snapped at her, before Rei placed a hand on his shoulder, calming him down.
Asuka hadn't felt so small or scared in years.
So far it had been nothing but praise from NERV trainers and personnel, though always with the unspoken threat that it would all be pulled out from under her if she failed to live up to their standards.
And now here she was, having blundered everything in her eagerness and need to prove she was all NERV needed while alienating her only hope for escaping this situation alive while she was at it.
"I'd hate to say I told you so, but that'd be a lie" her inner voice chided her, and she was so lost in her helpless that Asuka didn't notice the other two flinch as if they had heard it.
"Face it. You were so scared of letting anyone in that you burned anyone that got close, while trying to get the approval of some old geezers you never even met. Now they're going to abandon you again... just... like... her..." the voice continued and Asuka felt panic set in as the pit of depression she dangled over, seamed to open up wide and threaten to swallow her again.
Before she could fall in though, a hand reached out and grabbed her.
Asuka gasped as she finally came back to her senses and saw Rei floating over her with more emotion then she'd ever seen on the girl so far. Concern and empathy were mostly what she saw, as Rei held her shoulder and that voice in the back of her mind seamed to grow dimmer for a moment.
Shinji then sighed as he focused on her again with a calmer mind.
"Look Asuka, I understand where you're coming from. Really I do. But this... trying to show off, for people who don't deserve it and trying to push people away so you don't get hurt...it's just going to hurt you even worse in the end" he said.
Asuka gasped as she stared up at Shinji with fear.
Not like before when he was just angry. This was something else. Something deeper.
"How the hell does he know all that!?" She thought with disbelief as she stared up at him and Rei with a whole new kind of terror.
"Maybe he really does know what it's like" Asuka's inner voice spoke up again.
"No! It's just another lie! I won't believe it!" Asuka screamed within her own mind.
"You know that's not true" the voice refuted and the part that scared Asuka more was that it was right.
No matter how much she tried to deny it, she just knew everything Shinji said was true. No matter how much she tried to lie to herself as she always had, she just couldn't do it now. It was like the wall of flames she had built around her heart had suddenly been extinguished in a great deluge and she was now laid bare before her fellow pilots.
Unbeknownst to Asuka, Rei and Shinji could indeed hear her inner voice berating her, thanks to Rei's abilities and their high synch rate.
And now Rei was using those same powers to weaken Asuka's AT field and it was proving to be a surprisingly difficult tasks.
Shinji had been much easier, since he didn't fight back against connection as much, he only hid himself away until someone dug deep enough and pulled him out.
Asuka though. She kicked, screamed and cursed the whole way out of her shell, like a newborn crying for their mother.
Fortunately, Rei was just as determined and she had half the master key to the Human heart.
Unfortunately, the Angel that was currently chowing down on them had no inclination to let them have this little heart to heart, as it bit down harder and all three of them grimaced in pain.
"Asuka, we need to get out of here, but we can't do that if you keep fighting us over control of the Eva" Shinji said as he looked Asuka in the eyes. Rei's hand never leaving her shoulder as she put all her focus on keeping Asuka's AT field weak for Shinji's words to get through.
Even in this situation, they were working in perfect synch.
Asuka still seamed hesitant though. Years of mental abuse and neglect having left their mark on her.
"B-but-" Asuka's stuttering was cut off by Shinji using both hands to cup her cheeks and make her lock eyes with him.
"Asuka...you don't have to be the strongest all the time..." Shinji began and Asuka felt like he was staring into her soul "it's ok to be vulnerable sometimes ...it's ok to cry when you have a shoulder to cry on...and it's ok to let others help you" Shinji finished as he leaned in closer to her.
Asuka's face went as red as her hair and her heart was now racing a mile a minute.
"Wait, where did that come from? How can I be getting excited at a time like this and to somebody like him!?" Asuka screamed internally but those misgivings were immediately washed away by Rei as quickly as they could pop up and her inner voice was oddly silent.
Slowly, Asuka soon found her hands being lead to the controls for the Eva by Shinji and Rei's.
Asuka didn't stop them. She didn't fight back. She just let them do their thing as the three of them made the Eva grasp the lips of the Angel and start prying it open.
Some static tried to burst in over the radio but they had to ignore it as they worked open the Angel's mouth and held it open.
It was then that the light trickled in and Rei saw it.
The Angel's core.
And an idea suddenly flashed into her mind. She knew a little of the scenario that Shinji's father wanted and that they needed to derail it. And now the perfect opportunity had presented itself.
"Shinji, I have a plan. Let me take the lead" she communicated mentally to Shinji and he gave a slight nod in acknowledgement.
Rei then had the Eva flex it's muscles, like a drawn bow, and shot the Eva all the way into the Angel's mouth.
"What are you doing!?" Asuka yelled as her reawakened survival instincts kicked in.
"Killing the Angel" Rei answered as she thrust the Eva's hands forward and pierced the AT field. Her and Shinji then began to rip it open, holding it apart as they moved closer and drew the Eva's head nearer to the core.
A dangerous move, considering their head would be chopped off if they lost their grip, but Rei pressed on and instinctively flexed her actual jaw as she force the Eva's free from it restraints and opened it's monstrous maw wide.
Asuka and Shinji's eye widened as they realized what Rei was planning.
"You've gotta be kidding me" they both said simultaneously as Rei bit into the Angel's core.
They soon found themselves deafened by the agonized screams of the Angel but Rei powered through it and made the Eva press onward as it consumed the core.
Asuka and Shinji pressed their hands to their ears as the screams continued. Their ears were ringing so loud by the end that they hadn't even realized it stopped until they felt the sensation of something sliding down the Eva's throat.
It was a truly disgusting experience, but it made them look up to see the Angel's Cora had been almost completely devoured. Only some of the shell remained.
Then everything went dark.
"What the heck!?" Asuka yelled as emergency lights kicked on.
"The Angel chewed through the umbilical when we went into it's mouth" Rei explained as she grabbed Shinji and braced them against the wall.
"Uhm, Rei...what are you doing?" Shinji asked as he resisted the urge the grope her through the plug suit.
"Bracing for impact" she answered simply and the others suddenly found themselves gripping whatever they could as the Eva shook with a crash.
"What was that?" Shinji asked as he held onto Rei.
"Ugh, the Angel must have sunk to the ocean floor with us still in it" Asuka groaned as she righted herself in her seat. Her eyes then widened in horror though.
"Wait, do we have enough power to last until they fish us out?!" she asked.
Rei seamed to ponder this for a moment as she looked up.
"We should have enough backup power to last until then" she assured them.
"Provided the Eva doesn't wake up and go on a rampage first" Rei thought as she attempted to calculate the time it would take for the Eva to develop an S2 organ now that it had consumed one.
Rei then glanced over everyone present in the plug with her. She would explain everything about the S2 organ and the implications of Asuka's unit having one to Shinji later. For now though they needed to take stock of the situation.
The three of them took a few minutes to check over everything they could. Communications were down and the Eva only had emergency power, so they were essentially on their own. Trapped in a small entry plug together.
"Tch, don't get any ideas you perverts" Asuka said at one point and Shinji rolled his eyes at her. It was her mind that went there in the first place.
Aside from that though, Asuka was being surprisingly quite. A combination of humiliation and Rei's abilities had snuffed out that fire she guarded herself with, and now she was all meek and directionless as she tried to short out her own emotions.
Still, there was something left in her that wanted to bite back at them, but it had been cowed by the two other pilots and recent events.
Shinji and Rei were working on a panel towards the top of the plug while Asuka was sulking down in her seat, growing impatient with all the waiting but too emotionally confused to express herself properly.
"She still sulking?" Shinji asked with a whisper. Something very difficult to do in LCL.
"Yes. We wore her down but she needs one last push before she opens up on her own" Rei whispered back as she glanced back over her shoulder at Asuka.
"Have you given any thought to what we talked about before?" she asked Shinji, who grew silent for a moment. He had given it a little thought but he was mostly focused on the Angel before. Now though, after seeing just how bad Asuka was and knowing first hand how much worse it could get, he knew they needed to do something before Asuka hit rock bottom. Still, he wasn't sure something so drastic was necessary.
Then again, his own experiences suggested otherwise. Had he and Rei not gone at it like rabbits in heat that day, he might not have broken out of his own shell. Plus Shinji was still a little frustrated from Asuka blue balling him.
"Only if she wants it" Shinji relented with a guilty blush on his face as he avoided eye contact with his girlfriend.
Rei's smile was anything but guilty as she gained an almost evil glint in her eye.
"Don't worry, she will" Rei thought to herself as she pulled Shinji along with her down to Asuka.
Asuka meanwhile, was currently fighting herself as she sat there with her arms crossed. Her behavior for the last half hour had been so radically different from what she was used to that she didn't know how to react to herself. And to top it off the voice in her head was oddly silent now.
Asuka jumped in her seat though, as a hand landed on her shoulder with what almost felt like a static jolt, and just like before, her defenses came tumbling down again as she looked up at the two other pilots.
Rei was just floating there with a smile on her face while Shinji looked a bit like a fish out of water. It was kinda adorable in a way.

Asuka's face went atomic red as she registered what her own thoughts had been and realized she was ogling him a little.
"What is wrong with me!? I'm not interested in shrimps like him, only Kaji is for me!" She tried to tell herself but she found it harder to believe then usual, even without her inner voice calling her out.
"Asuka, are you alright?" Shinji asked as he came closer and she realized she was still staring and jerked her head away quickly.
"I-idiot...I'm perfectly fine" she said with a little less bite then she intended. She jumped again though as Shinji placed a hand on her other shoulder and she felt a bolt of electricity run down her spine to her nether regains, where a fire was lit and her body temperature spiked.
Asuka found her breathing became a little heavy as she looked back to find Shinji in a similar state.
Unbeknownst to ether of them, Rei was smiling deviously off to the side. She respected Shinji wishes and loved him for his morals, but her own instincts and desires had won out her decision making this time, and so she had stacked the deck in Shinji's favor.
They were floating in LCL after all. The blood of Lilith, so that gave her something of an advantage. Amplifying her abilities as well as letting Rei awaken some of those instincts within the LCL itself. Basically turning the plug into a tube filled with the strongest aphrodisiac and fertility drug in the world. And they were all starting to feel the effects by now.

Shinji's face then hardened over with determination as he lay fully on Asuka and hugged her tightly.
"Do you want me to brake it fast or slow?" he whispered in her ear.
Asuka was silent for a moment and Shinji began to wander if she heard him, but then she suddenly held him tighter.
"Do it fast" she said and Shinji nodded and kissed the side of her head as he pulled his hips back slightly. Then he thrusted in fast and hard, causing Asuka to cry out in pain and claw into his back a little.

Ritsuko groaned with frustration as she turned her gaze to Misato.
"Listen here, there's only so much-"

Everyone froze as the ship vibrated and the waters churned.
"Major! Dr. Akagi! You need to see this!" one of the technicians yelled and the two ran over to look at the screen.
"What is it!? What's happening?!" Misato demanded as they watched the screen, only to gasp as the Angel's mouth began to open on it's own.
"Don't tell me that thing is still alive!" Misato yelled, only for everyone's breath to be taken away by the red Eva trapped inside, prying the mouth open and jumping out before letting it fall again.
"No way... that's impossible... how is it moving without an umbilical?... unless..." Ritsuko trailed off before gasping in horror and realization as she knew the only way the Eva could be powering it's self.
"The Commander's not going to like this" Ritsuko thought, as this seriously deviated from the scenario.
Misato on the other hand was laughing with relief and pride as she watched the Eva look around before spotting some of the terrified dive team and waving at them.
"There's our star pilots! Get communications back up will Yah!" She ordered the nearby techs. Sure she was confused and concerned about the Eva moving under it's own power but she was more concerned with the pilots inside.
"Sorry Major, but communications are still down. We'll have to run diagnostics once they're out of the plug" the tech informed them.
"Then what are you waiting for. Fish them up already!" Misato ordered and she watched the Eva look around, making sure not to hurt any of the rescue team.
Misato resisted the urge to bounce on the balls of her feet as they finally got the Eva up, which was much easier then expected when it could hall itself aboard once they got it close enough. Now they were working to get the plug out.
After several minutes, they eventually got it to eject and spill it's contents on the deck, before allowing the pilots to crawl out.
Misato made a mental note to reward them somehow as she noticed how harrowing the fight must have been. All three looked exhausted but also satisfied, with bruises on their necks and jawlines and some scratches on Shinji's nape. "You three look like me after a night on the town" Misato joked and laughed as their faces turned red. Even Rei looked a little flustered, but that might have just been some of the LCL on her face.
"Misato!" Shinji whined and Asuka looked like she wanted to complain as well but was too exhausted to speak up.
Misato did arch an eyebrow at the girl though. Something about her seamed different. More subdued but also relived. She definitely wasn't complaining as much as Misato expected.
"I guess Shinji and Rei managed to brake her shell somehow... maybe I should arrange for them to stay really close together" Misato thought with a devious grin. Unaware of the carnal acts that she unwittingly would allow to take place within her apartment by taking Asuka in.
