Chapter One.
Earth orbit, Sol System.
09:00 GST March 12th 2060AD
The Constellation Class Superdimensional fortress passed through a large cloud bank as it slowly rose through the earth's atmosphere. Its crew was diligent and attentive while the combat fighter staff was on alert in their ready rooms. As it exitted the atmosphere and reached outer space, it slipt past the 600 strong earth defense force fleet and approached a flotilla of 60 ships were facing away from the earth. Off in the distance were several orbital platforms, most famously the Factory Satillite which was liberated from Zentradi forces not to long ago.
As the Constellation class SDF crept closer, a dark skinned woman standing at thh helm turned to the captain who was sitting on the bridge.
"We've left Earth's atmopshere and are about to rendevouz with the escort group Captain Hayes," Claudia announced.
"Understood. Thank you first Lieutenant Grant," Commodore Lisa Hayes nodded then turned to the dark haired woman sitting at the sensor station. "Nothing on the radars yet 2nd Lieutanant Kabriov?"
"No ma'am." Kim Kabriov shook her as she sat at the radar station. "All we have now is the escort group in front of us and thats it."
"I guess we're not going to get a repeat of what happened on the first and second shakedown of this ship." Claudia chuckled wryly.
"Those pirates from the other guilds were a nuisince, yes," Lisa nodded then glanced at the teal haired tactical officer and airboss. "Are our squadrons ready at a moments notice, 2nd Lieutenant Makibi."
"Aye ma'am," Second Lieutanant Helena Chase nodded. She served on the ground as the field officer for base 2 near the badlands. "Our Variable Fighter, starfighter and Aerospace Fighter teams are ready at your command, ma'am."
"Good," Lisa nodded then looked to the ship management station. "How are things holding up."
Gina Bartlow adjusted her glasses as she adjusted her glasses. "Engines, navigation and our reactors are all green ma'am."
"Good." Lisa nodded.
"Command is hailing us us, ma'am," Sasami Jurai said at the communications panel.
"On screen." Lisa nodded.
"Greetings Lisa," Commander Global nodded. "I'll be brief. Pirate activity has increased after the defeat of boldoza and the masters. We'd like you to visit several planets as well as shore up relations with the planets who have been attacked."
"...as well as help United Glactica firm up its borders yes?" Lisa asked.
"Yes Commodore." Bruno Global nodded. "You'll be visiting eight planets as well as the Sentinels homeworlds."
"Very well." Lisa nodded.
"Good luck to you." Global nodded and the screen winked out.
"Wonder if its any of the houses or just Tiorlians playing pirate." Claudia Grant wondered.
"We'll see." Lisa nodded
"Escort fleet is hailing us, ma'am," Sasami Jurai said at the communications panel
"Put them through, Sasami," Lisa nodded.
"Right." The commtech nodded and worked the controls. Moments later, a light dark haired young man appeared on the main-screen as she sat on the bridge of a UNS battleship. "Greeting Captain Hayse. Are we ready to shove off?"
Lisa paused and nodded. "Yes Commander Harlowun."
"Nervous?" Chrono Harlowun grinned wryly.
"A bit." Lisa nodded.
"Don't worry I think we'll be fine." Chrono nodded.
"Right." Lisa nodded. She was also nervous about having three Jurai nobles on board, one of which was serving as her communications tech, But there were politics involved. The SDFC-1 silently slipped up to the small group of ships then paused as Claudia inputed the co-ordinates for the fold jump.
"All ships ready." Sasami reported.
"Let's go, then." Lisa nodded.
With that several discs of light appeared before the bows of the ships and the ships passed right through them and folded out of the sol system to their first destination.
Within the ship, one of the diplomats that Lisa was concerned about blinked as they passed through the fold. "Wow."
"That's the improved Fold System," Ayeka noted. "It's much more precise than the old 'Fold Bubble' system."
"Yeah I heard they had an incident with north atria island because of it." Tenchi noted as they sat in a spacious ambassadors quarters aboard the ship.
"So what would happen if I were to port outside the ship." Ryouko asked.
"You'd be lost forever." Ayeka sighed. "So don't do that."
"Alright." Ryouko sipped her sake.
"This does feel a bit funny though." Tenchi noted.
"Washu said that we'll feel slightly disorented during the journey so it's best to stay somewhat still." Ayeka noted.
"I'm surprised they asked all of us to go." Tenchi noted
"Well we do represent the Earth and Jurai..." Ayeka noted
"While I'm here to keep you all safe," Ryouko noted mildly
"Thanks." Tenchi grinned.
"Don't mention it." Ryouko smiled and cuddled against him.
"Our Captain did look a little shaken when you walked aboard." Ayeka noted then sighed. "Please don't make it harder on her, Miss Ryouko."
Ryouko was going to make a quip when Ayeka gave her a serious glare. "Alright alright I'll behave. Don't worry."
Ayeka giggled.
"So what is the plan anyway?" Ryouko asked as she folded her arms and floated next to Tenchi. "Are we heading into Zentradi territory this time?"
"No. I've been told we're just patrolling the local star systems" Ayeka noted then explained to the teal haired woman floating nearby. "Meanwhile lord Tenchi and I will be meeting with other dignitaries to shore up alliances."
"So its a boring mission." Ryouko sighed.
"It won't be boring if pirates show up that's for sure." Tenchi noted.
"Or the Zentradi." Ayeka nodded.
"I really don't envy the officers who are organizing this." Tenchi sighed.
The ships continued on through the fold until they reached their destination. An hour or so later, the battlegroup folded out near their first stop. It was a semi arid world which had a few seas and most of its vegetation around the equatorial band of three continents. Almost immediately sensors picked up a small picket fleet of ships in orbit around the world.
"United Galactica Space Navy Garrision Force detected. 12 in all ma'am," Kim Kabriov noted then frowned thoughtfully. "Theres something else here too."
"Hm?" Lisa blinked.
"At least 30 pirate ships from an unknown guild is attacking the small garrison fleet." Kim noted.
"We've got a emergency hail from the garrision group. They're requesting our assistance." Sasami said.
"Right. Helm all ahead full towards the battle." Lisa replied. "Helena get the fighters on deck. Sasami contact the Athra and tell them we're assisting the garrison fleet."
"Yes ma'am." Claudia, Helena and Sasami nodded and started going to work. The fleet followed their lead into battle as the Pirates diverted half of their group towards Lisa's and Chrono's battlegroup.
"Pirate ships incoming." Kim reported.
"As expected." Lisa nodded. "Prepare for ship to ship combat."
"Yes ma'am!" The women nodded.
Below the decks, variable fighter crews scrambled from their ready rooms and climbed into their fighters. Dustine ran to her fighter and did a quick inspection of her VF-1J variable fighter. Once she was done she climbed into the cockpit and cycled the canopy closed. She flicked a few switches and gave a thumbs up to the deck crew. The deck hands nodded and deployed her figher on deck Three other fighters were deployed behind her unit.
"Scepter 10 to Delta one. Ready to launch." Dustine replied as she contacted the bridge.
"Delta one to Scepter 10. You and your squad are cleared to launch." Kiyone nodded. "Happy hunting. Commander McCormick."
"Roger!" Dustine nodded and with that her variable fighter shot off the deck and flew off into space. Her squad mates followed suit and they lined up behind her in no time.
Below in the diplomat quarters the juraians blinked at the alarms and the sounds of activity in the hallway.
"Whats going on? Are we under attack?" Tenchi asked.
"Maybe." Ayeka frowned and trotted over to a terminal on the wall. "I'll ask the bridge whats going on."
Sasami was busy juggling fleet communicatrions and updates, so a Ensign took the call. Mal, A solnoid officer with shortish black hair assigned to the the sensor bridge, answered promptly. "Hello? Oh Lady Ayeka. What's up?"
"Whats the situation out there, Ensign?" Ayeka asked simply as she gazed at the Lupine humanoid.
"There is a large group of pirates... I'll forward the tactical data to you, ma'am." Mal provided.
"Thank you." Ayeka nodded and frowned as she looked at her device given to her. "35 to 40 ships in all versus 12 garrison United Galactica ships."
"What sort of enemy ships?" Tenchi asked as Ryouko glanced over at the devices readout.
"A mix of cruisers, a couple of capitals smaller catamaran hulled ships and two carriers to launch small craft." Ayeka noted.
"Ha! Easy. Can I take Ryo-Ohki out and swat them?" Ryouko asked eagerly.
"Let the pilots and the officers do their job, Miss Ryouko." Ayeka frowned.
"Party pooper." Ryouko tsked.
Tenchi smiled, "I don't want to see you risk yourself needlessly too."
"OH TENCHI..." Ryouko cooed and then glomped the earth man.
"Awk." Tenchi yelped.
Ayeka rolled her eyes, "Miss Ryouko! Not now!"
"Eheh! Sorry couldn't help it, princess!" Ryouko let him up.
Meanwhile in space the battle was getting heated between the UN SPACY, UGSF forces and the pirates. Both were trading blows. One of the pirates medium cruisers was biseccted in half by a heavy rail bolt that came from a experimental railcannon ship. As the ship exploded messily in space, VF-1 variable fighters and semi elegant space-fighter craft battled each other for supremacy.
"Striker Squad, form up on me. We'll be in weapons range soon," Nanoha Tachamachi ordered
"Roger," Yuuno Scrya, her wingmate, Felix and Corben replied as the fighters formed up around her. The squadron surged towards the battle as Yuuno tapped a few keys on his panel. "We've got small craft inbound. Most likely fighters or light shuttlecraft."
"Intercept them," Nanoha ordered
"Roger." The others nodded and banked to the left towards the fighters.
"Skull leader to all units. Be advised pirate fighters have forcefields of some kind." Roy Folker called over the general comm channel
"Oh just lovely..." Dustine McCormick muttered
"Use missiles first then blast them with your cannons." Roy advised. "Skull leader out."
"You heard the man," Nanoha replied as they surged toward their prey. Nanoha launched off a medium ranged missile "Lets weaken them first. Scepter lead! Fox 1!"
"Scepter ten! Fox 1!" Dustne said as she launched a missile too.
The pirate star-fighters boobed and weaved as they tried to shake off the missiles. The missiles, however connected and the concussive explosion shorted out the fighters shield generators. Dustine grinned when she saw the field wink out and swept in for the kill. She lined up with him and fired a burst of cannon fire at the space-fighter which tore through the armor like paper. The opposing fighter exploded in a cheery fireball as Dustine whooped. "Splash one."
Nanoha destroyed another after hitting it with another medium range missile. "Splash two."
"We're going to run out of medium range missiles soon though." Fate noted as she killed off another.
"We could use Micro-missiles?" Yuuno suggested.
"Even then we'll run out." Nanoha noted.
"Hm. I have an idea." Dustine mused then banked towards an enemy. "Yuuno follow me."
"R..Right." Yuuno replied and followed her lead.
"What are you planning McCormick?" Nanoha asked warily.
"Something thaat might help." Dustine grinned as she chased after a starfighter. They bobbed and weaved through space until Dustine lined up and fired her head turret lasers at the pirate fighters shields. The shield wavered for a bit then shattered. She then blazed away at it with her gunpods. "Lasers work!"
"THAT WAS WAY TOO CLOSE!" Nanoha scolded her.
"Sorry." Dustine winced then eeeped when a pirate fighter swept in from above and fired a salvo of beam fire. Dustine yelped and rolled out of the way as the new combatant chased after her.
"Dustine!" Nanoha yelped.
"Damn it!" Dustine cursed as the pirate fighter chased after her. Moments later a heavy variable fighter swept into the fray. It was a bit larger than the VF-1, had wing-mounted engines, downward canted wings and a pair of beam guns atop the engine nacelles. The pretty face of a Solnoid pilot appeared on Dustine's screen. "Scepter 10 break right!"
Dustine grunted and broke right away from the attacker as the heavy fighter chase after the pirate starfighter. They bobbed and weaved until the heavy fighter lined up and blasted it with its beamcannons. The beams shattered the pirates shields within seconds and tore into the fighter like it was nothing.
"Thanks," Dustine smiled.
"Don't mention it." The dark haired solnoid winked. Moments later, she heard a lock on tone.
"Ack. Everyone Evade. The dark haired solnoid shouted as she rapidly changed course and jinked wildly as a pair of missiles streaked towards her. She banked left and right to shake the missiles as she fired off chaff to confuse them as theothers did the same. One takes the bait and ends up in a fireball while the other chases her. Nanoha scowled, swtiched into gerwalk and cut the missile down as it was streaking towards her.
"Whew." Nanoha sighed.
"Everyone okay?" Dustine radioed them all as she chased after a fighter, peppered its shield with a salvo of mini missiles and destroyed it with cannon fire. Yuuno trailed behind Dustine's unit.
"We're fine." Fate replied.
"We lost Corben and Felix. They were hotdogging," Nanoha added glumly.
"We're gonna have to get used to this I think." Dustine noted.
"Yeah."
Meanwhile the SDFC-1's fleet advanced on the pirate ships. Beam and cannon fire were exchanged from both sides. Several pirate ships were already disabled while others had just received a salvo of anti ship missile fire from the UGSN cruisers.
On board the SDFC-1 Concordia, Lisa surveyed the battle scene and glanced over at the sensor operator.
"Status report!" Lisa barked.
"Minimial losses on our side ship wise ma'am," Kim Kabriov reported as she gazed at her screen. "Several pirate ships are now disabled. Wait a minute. Ma'am it looks like the pirates are pulling back."
"They're calling back their fighters too." Kiyone reported as she gazed at her monitors. As she reported this, the pirate's star fighters broke away from the battle as the pirate captain ordered a general retreat. The fighters returned to two battered catamaran ships which in turn fled with the rest of the ships from the oncoming UGSN fleet. Within minutes the pirates warped out of the system leaving behind several disabled ships.
"Pirates have retreated from the system," Kim reported.
"Alright, go back to yellow alert," Lisa nodded then turned to Kiyone. "Call back most of the squadrons and set up a perimeter with the rest, Lieutenant."
"Yes ma'am," Kiyone nodded.
Lisa sat back then ordered, "Hail the planetary defense forces."
"Yes ma'am," Sasami nodded and hailed the planetary defense force.
Moments later, a purple haired woman wearing a UGSN Captains uniform appeared on the main screen. Leti Lowran smiled warmly, "Greeting Concordia. Thank you for rescuing our defense fleet."
"Your welcome. You're Lindy's friend, correct?" Lisa asked curiously
"We go way back, yes," Leti agreed
"Did you sustain any damage?" Lisa asked.
"Well not us but we had a freighter that was disabled just now..." Leti sighed.
"Tow vessels not available?"
"They're dragging two other freighters to port as we speak..." Leti shook her head.
"I see. We can assist I think," Lisa agreed
"Thank you." Leti nodded she then looked over her notes. "Your going to offload some refugees to right?"
"We will wait to launch shuttles until you are ready," Lisa added.
"Can you wait a day...?" Leti asked then sighed. "The pirates really made a mess of things. Our network is down. We still need offload supplies from the freighter plus the pirates managed to send one boat down to the ground here."
"I think we can afford a day..." Lisa nodded. "Do you need help catching the pirates down on the ground."
"That'd be very helpful." Leti nodded. "Thank you. Hengsha post out."
Moments later the screen went blank.
"Well you heard her," Lisa glanced over at Kim and Sasami. "Send a ship to help tug the freighter to their space port."
"Yes ma'am," Both nodded and went to work. A cruiser broke off from the fleet and moved towards the crippled freighter.
"Second lieutenant I want you to send some marines down planetside and have them deal with the pirates there." Lisa turned to Kiyone.
"I'll get the major on the phone," Kiyone nodded and picked up a headset and dialed a number.
1700 GST UGSN SDFC-1 Port side mess-hall.
Dustine sagged down into a seat in the mess-hall amongst her friends, Izzy and Jack Archer. They had just came back from a long battle with the pirates and now it was time to eat. "Whew. I'm beat. That was some battle eh, Izzy?"
"Heck yeah." Izzy Randal, her wing mate, nodded then sighed as she shook her head. "To bad they got away."
"We need to upgrade our cannons to fight against those shields." Dustine noted.
"Yeah that's true." Izzy sighed.
"Dustine!" Nanoha yelled as she strode up to the table. Fate trailed behind her looking ready to stop a fight.
"Uh oh." Dustine blinked then eeped as Nanoha grabbed her collar.
"That was reckless and dangerous and you know that!" Nanoha pulled her up close.
"Nanoha our gunpods do next to nothing against their shields." Dustine frowned. "Our VFs don't have wing mounted guns either not like the other star-fighters do. I had to try to do something. And its not like those fighters have reverse thrusters..."
"...if they did you'd be dead by now." Nanoha scowled.
"I know but I had to try." Dustine sighed. "But for what its worth I'm sorry I scared you."
"Nanoha..." Fate laid a hand on her shoulder. "She said she was sorry. Okay?"
"Apology accepted," Nanoha nodded then said seriously as a woman wearing a red and black solnoid uniform was looking about. "However, tomorrow you'll do KP Duty for a day on the 3rd deck."
"Understood." Dustine sighed.
Moments later, a dark haired solnoid woman walked up, apparently finding her target. "Oy, Variable Fighter Pilot."
"Yes?" Dustine asked a bit warily. "Who wants to know?"
"The name's Lynn Stoll, fourth Attackers," Lynn Stoll nodded.
"Dustine McCormick, of Secpter squadron," Dustine nodded.
"That was some piloting McCormick..." The Solnoid Pilot grinned as she sat next to her. "...and your efforts has got some of the brass talking."
"Major if you think your abou to pilfer my one of my pilots..." Nanoha frowned.
"Possessive, much?" Dustine teased
"No nothing like that." Lynn grinned and ran a hand through her hair. "The brass is already talking about outfitting your valks with some extra gear to help out."
"Weapons upgrades, at last," Fate beamed
"Might help out..." Izzy nodded.
"Engineering is still developing the add ons," Lynn cautioned, "but they're thinking of adding modular beam cannons."
"So that'll take a while." Dustine mused.
"Yep." Lynn nodded.
"Maybe they'll work on beam gunpods next." Fate mused.
"We can hope..." Nanoha sighed.
"If they do they'd probably outfit us first with it." Lynn teased.
"Meanie," Dustine pouted
"If we had the tech to do this, why didn't we sooner?" Nanoha had to ask
"Money. It IS expensive, and high command didnt want to spen it..." Lynn frowned. "Plus we were mostly armed for fighting unshielded battlepods. We didn't think we'd be fighting shielded fighters so soon."
"Well we didn't expect shielded fighters either." Fate frowned.
"Well maybe we can discuss joint tactics." Lynn grinned. "Our VF-4's have heavier beam guns and more firepower. We'll cover your fighters while you make your attack runs."
"Sounds like a good idea," Nanoha agreed
"Agreed." Izzy Randal nodded.
"We'll discuss these tactics tommorrow..." Lynn nodded. "Agreed?"
"Agreed." THe pilots nodded.
"Good. Hope to see you there McCormick." Lynn grinned.
"She'll be there. Then she has KP for her hot dogging..."
"Ouch." Lynn winced then smiled at Dustine. "I've been there. Buck up, pilot."
"I will." Dustine nodded.
Lynn grinned and left as she walked away from the table.
Dustine watched her go only to get a little dissapointed when she hugged a burly Karabarran tech. The tech grinned and hugged her back.
"Aww." Dustine pouted.
"I was just gonna say don't get your hopes up." Nanoha noted after watching the two go off to another table.
"Yeah." Dustine sighed.
The next day
Eruta Airbase. Eruta 3. Eruta System.
"Why is our Commanding officer cute?" A Praxian marine grinned as their CO walked past them clutching a Mid-Childian Warhammer.
"She's pretty cute and small to me too." A solnoid marine agreed.
"Indeed." A large Karabarran soldier nodded.
"I'm not cute! Cut it out!" Vita Yagami pouted.
"Yes ma'am," The troops snickered.
Galatic Patrol officer Meryl Blanche glanced at the team dubiously as she stood next to her officers. They were all wearing the same armor that the UN SPACY and UGSF Marines were wearing under their light blue uniforms.
"Alright listen up." Vita glared at the crack troops in urban combat gear. "We're going to go to the Hengsha mines and find where the pirate remnants are and take them into our custody."
"Taken alive or Dead ma'am." A Praxian marine asked.
"Preferably alive. GP Cops want them taken in for questioning," Vita nodded and gestured to the red head wearing a standard blue and while Galaxy Police uniform. "But if you can't just finish them off quickly."
"Do you know where they are." Another asked.
"Sources say that they might be hiding in the hills near the settlement." Vita nodded.
"Another bug hunt." The praxian shrugged.
"Yeah, yeah..." Another agreed with her.
"Don't act so casual about this...these guys are considered armed and extremely dangerous." Vita frowned as she clutched her belkan hammer.
"Understood ma'am." All nod.
"Alright move out." Vita shouted and the troops climbed into several troop carriers while others scrambled to a group of variable technology cyclone transformable motorcycles.
"Officer Blanche, could you accompany me in the the lead car?" Vita asked.
"Certainly," Meryl agreed. Both climb into the car and the transports head off from the tarmac and through town. As they traveled through town several other transports joined them. These were GP transports they had seen better days or they were heavily used by Galactic Patrol. This was a join operation and Vita knew the GP wanted these pirates as much as they did.
"So how many are here?" Vita asked her as she clutched the hammer while a half dozen cyclone riders drove in front the transports
"At least two boats worth. So I'd say more than 36 pirates. They're occupying some old mining buildings in the hills north of here. The buildings are occupied by civilian technicians too."
"Mining eh? Vita blinked then frowned "Have they taken hostages yet."
"Mope but they're hiding in plain sight probably as mining techs." Meryl winked.
"Great." Vita replied then cued up her microphone. "Alright group we have some civilians on the premises at the mining facility and its possible that the pirates are hiding amongst them. Use caution when searching the buildings over."
"Team 1 understood."
"Team 2 understood."
"Team 3 are you serious command?"
"Serious. These civvies are under our protection now. Got it."
"Team three understood."
"Think more could be hiding in any sort of passages into these mines." Vita asked.
"Can't say." Meryl shrugged.
"Why not drop a kinetic weapon on the mine?" The driver asked.
"Private property, besides the explosion might hurt innocent bystanders..." Meryl sighed.
"Right." The driver nodded.
The convoy sped down the highway to the rolling hills which were on the outskirts of the town. The vehicles continued on for a few miles then stopped near the mining compound. As the GP tactical officers and the marines climbed out of their vehicles, the team leaders got out and looked at a map that Meryl spread out on a small table.
"Huh. And we think they're here?" Vita asked
"Roughly. They might be in the mines themselves too." Meryl nodded.
"Ok, deploy into teams as we discussed. We'll spread out and surround them." Vita nodded. "Set your comm channels to scrambled band 1b."
"Right." Meryl and the other officers and troopers nodded.
"We'll have out cyclone teams act as heavy fire support."
"Sweet, can we BMX style in the woods?" one pilot asked
"No."
"Spoil sport."
"Alright people lets move out." Vita yelled. Meryl gave a similar order to GP tactical officers wearing dark blue and green body armor. The joint teams cut through the fences, made their way through the openings and ran towards their assigned positions. Vita glanced at the compound with some high powered binoculars them frowned. There were some armed guards but they weren't corporate security. the teams looked they were wearing bits of armor over traditional pirate clothing.
"We've got eyes on several targets." Meryl said on a their scrambled comm band.
"Same. But we need more info." Vita frowned then glanced over at their tech. "Sparks!"
"Yo!" Dan waved
"Is the eye in the sky functioning?" Vita asked.
"Downloading scans now." Sparks reported.
Vita and Meryl scrabbled over then peered over his shoulder. "What have we got."
"We can confirm armed men in the buildings here and here," Dan Pointed. "The mines are harder to scan, though. We may need to send in a separate drone."
"Alright send in the drone when your ready..." Vita nodded then hmmed. "Send it in when we're making the first assaults on the building. The confusion might make it harder to spot."
"Got it," Sparks agreed
Meryl noted, "That's impressive tech."
"Thank you. It has its limits, of course..," Dan smiled
"I'm sure we could do that... our technology never really developed in that direction," she added
"Teams: move out!" Vita ordered
Rook Bartley checked her armor one more time, then settled into her seat. Once the command came, she was off like a shot. The cyclone teams rode in first. The rest of the marines and the SolaPol tactical units followed suit as the pirates tried to repel the combined forces. The startled pirates fired hand guns wildly. Someone had what almost looked heavy rocket launcher, but it fired wildly over Rooks head. Another from his companion exploded close by.
"Watch it!" Rook yelped as she dodged another volley. "They've got heavy weaponry!"
"Take em down?" A rider asked
"Yes please."
"Understood!" Two marines replied, transformed into the ride armor, and fired back at the pirates using the rocket launchers. One was immediately taken down while the other scrambled into the building he was using cover for.
"Damn. He snuck inside." Rook frowned then noticed that there were a few windows on the building. "Watch the windows. He might..."
moments later a window was smashed and the pirate with the rocket launcher aimed at the advancing troops. One of Meryl's men aimed a heavy weapon of his own and fired a rocket in his direction. The rocket met its target and the window and the wall exploded.
"Nice shot..." Rook bleated.
"Advance," Vita ordered the ground troops.
Dan, using the combat for cover, deployed a drone for the mine itself. The drone whizzed by and into the mine shaft as a pair of Praxian marines guarded him. It made its way down the shaft. Down a decline, past some tracks then spotted a few pirates. The pirates, seeing the drone, aimed at it with their blasters, destroying it. The drone blew up causing Dan to wince.
"Vita come in?" Dan spoke up.
"Busy Sparks!" Vita said as she wound up and belted a pirate in armor with her hammer. The pirate went flying only to be captured by two GP tactical officers.
"Just confirming there are pirates in the mines too," Dan reported.
"Oh joy..." Vita sighed as the GP officers dragged the pirate away in magnetic cuffs. Meanwhile the other teams advanced on the building entrances and...breached the buildings on the the marks of both Meryl and Vita. They searched the buildings by one room at a time. The captured a few and and deftly shot a few who were holding mine workers hostage. They did that floor by floor. The teams worked in unison until the last floor was reached and cleared.
"Buildings are cleared!" one officer declared
"Good." Meryl nodded. "Our boys say ithe buildings are cleared.
"Same." Vita nodded then looked to the mines. "So now we have just the mines to clear."
"Yeah. Should we offer them a chance to surrender?" Meryl offered.
"Hmmm. Yeah. Or could tear gas them out." Vita replied.
"What if they have breathers already." Meryl noted.
"Yeah that's true."
"What if they have hostages down there?" Meryl also added.
"Sparks did you see any hostages there?" Vita asked.
"Nope." Dan shook his head.
"Well shit..." Vita sighed.
"Lets try option 1 first..." Meryl suggested.
"Right." Vita nodded
March 14th 2060AD
Congradulations on a successful operation," Leti smiled at the two officers as she sat in her office in the airbase. "I've already sent word to Lisa via Chrono, Lieutenant Yagami. She's happy with the results too."
"Thanks." Vita nodded.
"Same from your chain of command, Captain Blanche." Leti nodded.
"Thanks," Meryl nodded then grinned. "May I say, we REALLY should ask the UGSN and UN SPACY for their drone and recon tech. It's very good."
"I'm sure your bosses could procure some high spec commercial recon drones." Leti mused then shrugged her shoulders at the G.P Tactical officer "But our ghost drones are very costly."
"Point." Meryl sighed.
They discussed a few more things and then both were dismissed and walked out of the office. Meryl smiled at Vita as they walked. "Your team did good out there. Glad to see you guys in action."
"Thanks. Your tactical teams were impressive too." Vita nodded.
"Well when and if you're back at Erota 3 look me up. I'll buy you a drink friend." Meryl winked.
"I'll take you up on that." Vita grinned as they walked out the building.
12:40GST
SDFC-1 Concordia, UN SPACY Expiditionary Fleet 3, Eurta 3, Eruta System.
"I see you've returned safely," Lisa smiled at Vita and her lieutenant as they stood in her captains quarters. Leti's face was on a large screen off to the right, watching the meeting proceed with interest.
"Yes ma'am, pirates were neutralized and rounded up by our and Captain Blanche's team," Vita nodded.
"Very good. No complications?" Lisa asked.
"We had to deal with a few hold outs int the mines," Vita noted then sighed. "We were able to get them to release the hostages after some more reconnaissance. After that they surrendered willingly to the combined teams."
"Good good." Lisa nodded then dismissed them. "Alright shower up grab some food. You've earned it."
"Yes ma'am," Vita and her two Lieutenants nodded and left.
"Now that the riffraff are out of the way I believe our Diplomats want are here to have a meeting with Eruta Prime's govenor." Lisa nodded.
"Yes. We're ready to recieve them." Leti nodded.
"Very well. Is that all?" Lisa asked.
"Just that you give Lindy my regards," Leti nodded. "Nothing more."
"Of course," Lisa nodded then sighed. "SDFC-1 out."
The screen winked out and Lisa tabbed a button on her phone.
"Bridge speaking, hello Captain," Sasami spoke up.
"Hello Sasami," Lisa smiled then nodded to her. "Inform your sister that Eurta III is clear of pirates and their government wishes to speak with her as planned.
"Right away ma'am," Sasami nodded, smiling at the order. "Anything else ma'am."
"I've a little more paperwork to do," Lisa admitted then sighed. "Tell the others I might be late for lunch."
"Don't forget to eat ma'am," Sasami chastized Lisa gently.
